I ordered a chicken sandwich and two drinks and get charged a 20% tip charge anything over $75. Do not recommend for a mediocre food carl's Jr. been a better choice. The place at TVs that was the only perk. The manager needs to be trained in customer service. He was very rude and unprofessional. The bottom of the menu the smallest writing possible says any order over $75 is 20% charge. It's mixed in with the types of oils they use and ingredients when someone doesn't have allergies. Absolutely abysmally slow service I cannot stress that enough, no smiles or otherwise friendly faces.... 6% surcharge on everything because "poor them" have to operate in LAX (you choose to operate in this place. Don't make your customers pay for it). Food is as good as you would expect it to be from the airport.... And it looks and feels as unenthusiastic as the employees act in here. You know, when I think about airport food, I imagine soggy 22 dollar turkey sandwiches, wilted salads and fast food. I don't eat fast food. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by Engine Co. No 28. I was watching the World Series at the bar (Go Dodgers!) and I ordered a Cobb Salad to go. I took it onto the plane to eat after takeoff. The salad was VERY good. Crisp greens, fresh avocado, crumbly blue cheese, fresh tomatoes, perfectly cooked egg and tender chicken. It tasted like it was freshly made and I ate every last bit. One place I come to every time I come to the airport is engine code number 28. I get Sabrina in the mornings. She's very friendly and puts the sweet they can make sugar. I ordered a pizza the cheesecake if I could order the whole thing I would've but then I wouldn't have fit on the airplane. This is delicious!! If you're gonna come here in the morning, you gotta get a breakfast burrito. I've had that six times but if you come in the afternoon you've got to go for the burger either way if you get Sabrina you'll know she's incredibly good the rest of the staff he was really good too. So we are on our way to our vaca. Needed to be early and since a little later inky a couple of things open of where we were flying out from United Airlines We here about 8:30pm. Very empty at this time at least for us . I had the Pimento Cheese Bacon-cado Burger . Med rare and it was great. Cooked perfect for me bacon crispy and fries were fresh and salted just right. Wife Had the Chicken Tenders and said they were flavorful and Juicy. Both of our food came out nice and hot. Our server was very nice and attentive. The only draw back was the table we first sat at was still a little dirty , and we had a couple pieces of the silverware that were dirty but very minor things. Prices are decent for a airport you have to expect that no matter where you travel . All in all we had a nice meal. If flying thru check them out . Enjoy ! read more

Just a sad effort for food. This restaurant only exists because any sad person that has to come to the 80s gates at LAX is literally stuck with only this place for food. It's a prison restaurant. Or be faced with walking back to the other side of the airport. The service was rough. They were Nice people but I had to go get my own napkins and utensils. Then ask for them again after I ordered more food. The fish was super greasy and the batter was soggy. Clearly frozen and barely fried right. Fries were just warm. Tomato bisque was tiny. I stopped here for a tasty adult beverage and French fries. There's bottles of Evian on the table with tags saying a charge would be added to the bill if consumed. I filled my service dog's bowl and had some for myself. Well, the bill comes to $42 for a martini and fries. I leave a 22% tip. We leave, but soon someone is chasing us down the terminal telling us we didn't pay for the water. Wasn't it supposed to be added to my bill? Well, we go back to pay for the water, but as we're doing so the bartender and busboy are making derogatory comments like we were trying to steal an $8 bottle of water. I went back to speak with the manager, but no matter what he does (or doesn't do) can't undo the poor customer service. Spend your money somewhere they'll appreciate your business. read more

This was a place we tried, because that's all there was near our gate at the airport. We were seated quickly and the service was decent. My daughter and I both ordered the fish and chips which I absolutely do not recommend. I don't know how they are cooked but they don't seem like they are fried because the coating is completely gummy and we both had to remove it and just eat the fish by itself with the tartar sauce. tldr; why are people so unhappy that work at airports? I walked in early on a Wednesday morning to gather a few beers at the bar before my departure off into the mountains of Oregon. The server greeted me with a snarl a shrug and a slow movement to the corner table. I was one of 4 people in the establishment, and one beer took 18 minutes while having to listen to pitbull. Life is good, but not when visiting Engine Co No 28. After some deep research, I realized that Engine Co No 28 uses the same recruiting firm that hires for the DMV. The service was alright although it took 5 minutes of standing before I was seated. The two servers working the floor probably would have benefited from a third. So unfortunately I'm providing this rating based on purely customer service and not the restaurant and/or food. I came through on a business trip last week, and ate lunch here. Food was good, decent, and fast. Would have been fine. Unfortunately, I left my airbuds at the restaurant. So starts an odyssey. So I tried to look up their phone number. I found two of them on line for the restaurant, neither of which was working. I tried to find an email address or other contact means on theie website... none. I tried to call the other Engine Co. #28 location in LA, and they denied that there was another location and couldn't provide a phone number. I did eventually find an email for them which I did write to (and it said to write to this email for customer service issues, and never got a response. Now I know that there is a slim chance at best that I could recover these, but the restaurant was almost empty when I was there and I was attempting to contact them just 4 hours later, so it might have been possible. But at this point, I believe the chances are remote. So I'm giving the one star not because the didn't return the airbuds, but because their online phone numbers (both) are disconnected, the other site didn't have a clue how to get hold of them, and they didn't respond to the email (even just to say that they could not find them). I shouldn't have to spend 2 hours of my time just trying to find a way to contact the restaurant, still to no avail. read more

The gentleman at the bar, Joe, was courteous and attentive and even suggested hot sauce for my chicken tenders as they didn't have ranch. Solid recommendation.
