We stopped by for a late Wednesday lunch. It was nearly 2 pm and there were only a few customers, so we had our choice of tables. We took cozy window table looking out at PCH and the sidewalk passing parade. The Encinitas Cafe is a casual place frequented by locals as well as tourists. It's an older place, but clean and well maintained. My wife order a BLT and I opted for the Chef's Salad. Her BLT, with fries, was good, but nothing out of the ordinary (the toasted bread was a little on the dark side). The order of fries was a generous serving. The presentation on my Chef's Salad was great. It came in a large deep bowl with tomatoes and eggs around the side and ham, chicken, cheese and onions piled high in the center. It was a very large serving and should satisfy any appetite. It was accompanied by a dinner roll with butter and a serving dish of Ranch dressing. Our server was friendly and courteous, but once he served our meals we didn't see him again until he brought the check. Prices are very reasonable. All in all, it was a decent lunch, but nothing to really get excited about. read more

This place is good to go! I ordered the bacon avocado cheese omelette. It was LOADED with avocado and bacon. The hash Browns were crispy, just the way I like em. I liked the fact that you had an option for one pancake, it was de lish!! The coffee was good and they kept my coffee mug full. The waitress was very good, she offered me a cup of coffee to go. Though I did not have it and not a big fan of banana bread. But a family next to me ordered the banana bread and they loved it. It is in downtown Encinitas so parking may be a challenge but the Encinitas coaster station is right around the corner. I will return to the Encinitas cafe!!!!! read more

This is a homey feel diner. Very friendly staff! We went with our lil toddler and he was pointing to the display of miniature cars and the server gladly just gave it to him to play. They gave a bowl of fruit for my lil one, without us ordering, how amazing is that! We got the veggie omelette and veggie burger and they were good. We ordered 2 eggs special, 1 egg special and Acai bowl special. All are great and just as I saw on this site. Banana nuts pan cake was big and yummy! I loved all the dishes. Very casual, relaxed cafe, but the service was good. The best part is that all the workers seemed so happy to work there. That positive attitude is very important in restaurant business. We've had both breakfast and dinner here. It's a charmy old-school diner, but we just couldn't find a way to keep coming back. The only memorable meal I had here was the Chicken Fried Steak (perhaps because it was so huge). Otherwise, there's better tasing food in the Downtown Encinitas area. read more

One of my regular breakfast places. They know I'm a weight watchers girl and are able to accommodate my appetite and requests. Last week a veggie burger and fries- usually way too many fries for me but this time my request for less worked! I also get their lite plate without the hard boiled egg. The scramble with minced ham or spinach and feta is yummy. Love their cornbread, live the steel cut oats and buckwheat pancakes or waffles. I've eaten probably 300 meals here over the decades. They have great service, and give you lots of tasty food. They have a big variety of dishes for a place that you would think of just a breakfast spot. Their oat pancakes are the best! I would give it six stars if possible. read more

She always has a smile on her face, has conversations with her customers and really makes sure we have a good experience there. This place looks just like a 70's greasy-spoon diner, with some booths and a bar you can sit at, as well as sidewalk tables. I can't imagine sitting at an outdoor table there breathing all those exhaust fumes (you're right on Hwy 101) while you eat, but some love it. The atmosphere is bland, and on this particular Thursday at lunchtime it was quiet, with only 4-5 tables occupied. I ordered the Mushroom Burger with fries. It was way overcooked and tasteless, so I had to add lots of salt & pepper; the fries were so dry and tasteless I could have used them as Q-tips. My friends both had the avocado burgers, and one out of the two was cooked properly. Service was atttentive and pleasant, but the food left a lot to be desired. The food is alright, but it tends to be a bit over priced. Service is usually good and thay have some outdoor seating. Cash only, so don't come empty handed. It has a good location downtown, which helps. If you really want a good breakfast, take the money you'd have spent here and go to the grocery store - you'll get alot more food. read more

Stopped here for lunch after hanging out at Moonlight beach. Got the Beef stew and guacamole burger and a couple of chocolate malts. The Beef stew could have been better but I guess I prefer a more tomato tasting stew. The guac burger was good and the malts were good as well.
