The rooms have clearly been updated while still keeping some of the original décor, which gives it a bit of charm. I had a partial ocean view from my balcony and it was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the breeze. The kitchen is small but worked great for my needs. There's no oven, but it does have a two-burner stove, microwave, sink for dishes, and about a 3/4-size fridge. It was stocked with all the dishes and utensils you'd need to cook a simple meal. Overall, it was comfortable, practical, and a great stay. I'll definitely be coming back.

Nice tub and sink/mirror area outside the bathroom. Our room was on the third floor so no balcony or patio like rooms on the first and second floors (there were sliding doors to get fresh air) with a great view of the ocean and sunrises. They provide beach chair and towels. They have a nice pool with plenty of lounge chairs and tables, but no hot tub. They also have a party room with a kitchen, tables, chairs, couches, bathrooms, games and books. There is an ice machine and a bbq grill area too. Our room had two TVs and free wifi. No "do not disturb" sign, so the maids woke me up almost every morning. They left clean towels and tp/Kleenex but never made the bed or did the dishes. They cleaned the bathroom though. There are good restaurants and shops nearby. Lots of shells on the beach. Plenty of large parking spots. Friendly employees.

We were not arriving til after 6pm and the staff left an envelope for me with instructions in the box. It was a seamless checkin and we were blown away by the beauty of the room. It was very nicely air conditioned and it smelled sooooooo good. So clean. Everything you need here. Microwave, fridge. Cute little shower. Plenty of towels. Comfortable bed but we hated the overstuffed pillows. The only gripe was the pillows. Our room was right outside the pool and you turn left, there's the ocean. Beautiful and breathtaking views. The pool area is so clean and well maintained. Very quiet premises. There is a small laundry room with an ice machine and reserved parking spaces. Stephanie was very pleasant when we checked out. We had no issues so no need to call staff. Such a great location and we will be back.

Decided to stay and we are so glad we did. Stephanie the owner is so nice and helpful. There isn't a host on site from 6pm-8am but she is easy to get ahold of if needed. The resort grounds are kept VERY clean and tidy. Pool and pool patio were cleaned each morning. The pool is not heated but my son didn't mind the cooler water after being on the beach all day. Plenty of lounge chairs around pool and seating outside the pool area on a patio over looking the beach. Steps down to the beach were kept clean led off and clear of clutter. It would be really nice to have a ramp going down to the beach. Was a little tricky getting our beach cart down the stairs. The ice machine was out of service while we were there so we did have to buy ice for our fish but hopefully it will be available next time we visit. A big plus was the water hose available for us to wash out our coolers and beach gear. Patio also has 2 enclosed beach showers to rinse off as well. The overall feel was very cozy and relaxed. We stayed in room 104 on the bottom floor. King bed with pull out couch. Mini fridge, microwave and coffee pot. We didn't pull out the bed since the couch was super comfortable so my son didn't want it pulled out. The provided LOTS of pillows which was VERY impressive. Room was very well laid out and clean. Shower was a little awkward since it's an open concept but water pressure was perfect. Hot and cold water worked very well. King bed was VERY comfortable. Firm but not rock hard. Hubby and I both slept like a rock. Big TVs in living room and bedroom. Lots of windows to let in all the sunshine! I only have a few suggestions/tips to add: 1. Heavier blankets. We had bedding for the pull out but a few heavier blankets would be nice. After being in the sun all day it's nice to be in a cold room under cozy blankets. 2. A sink in the kitchen area would be so helpful. Running back and forth to the bathroom to use the sink was a little annoying but not enough to dampen this review. 3. A broom and dust pan. This is a MUST. After 2 hours of being there our floor was covered in sand. I had no way of sweeping it up and since the bathroom was in the bedroom, we had a ton of sand on the floor beside the bed. 4. Sand rugs beside the bed to wipe feet on before getting in the bed. (I HATE sand in my bed) All in All this is a perfect place to stay if you're looking for direct beach access. We will 100% be coming back.

Lovely location, nice pool and excellent private beach. Amazing location for seeing sea turtles…read morecoming ashore to lay eggs in June. Somewhat rundown but clean. Holes in the arm of couch, rusted appliances. Oddly furnish with wooden dining room tables in a humid atmosphere, only two plastic placemats provided so hard to use table without leaving watermarks. Doors that stuck or were hard to open. One gate to the pool functioned so poorly that it often stayed open, a danger for families with young children. No response from management regarding that concern (an issue they could not possibly miss since their staff used that gate regularly). Ocean Front room had a gorgeous view but floor was constantly humid and slippery. Small deck was lovely but a source of frequent wildlife that easily ended up in the room. Huge tree frog in bedroom the first morning (4 inch diameter), crabs and lizards at other points in our stay. Unfortunately the only night we used the deck in the evening we found that there were rats, one of which was in the room residing under the dishwasher. Very disturbing. Very loose administratively, seldom anyone in the office during our 5 day stay. Very little written information regarding policies. No regular housekeeping or even trash pick up. No instructions on what to do with trash (verbal at check in or posted). Rare for anyone to answer the office phone. Clean towels "available in office" but there was seldom anyone in the office. Staff are "on site" on the property, but unless you know who they are by sight that's not much help. Phone numbers we were asked to provide for door codes were not programmed in as provided, causing a lot of confusion for our arrival after 5 pm. We stayed on after a three day family reunion only to be treated coldly because management was angry that, with no housekeeping or trash instructions, some rooms had been left with multiple bags of closed up trash bags and were not 'clean enough' when guests left from the family reunion. After the rat showed up in my room I was informed that a refund for even that one night would not be provided unless 'penalties applied to other rooms during the reunion the previous weekend were paid.' A very short sighted and inappropriate management decision. In addition a 'penalty' for smoking in one of the rooms the previous weekend was assessed to a room with non smokers. Although that penalty was probably appropriate if levied on the correct room, it was sloppy to levy it on the wrong room (which also happened to be the only room that had a mixed race family staying in it).

We stayed at the Hotel Melby for several nights during the holiday season while visiting family…read more(which means we'll likely be staying there again in the future, despite our experience). Even though it was the holidays, I think it must be the off season because it wasn't that busy at the hotel or anywhere in the area which, to me, seems like the staff should have been very attentive to the guests they had.If I could sum up our experience at the hotel in one word, it would be "disengaged." We felt it with almost every single staff member from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. The only exceptions were Lorin at the front desk on our last two days, who was extremely competent and should be given every promotion they have, and a young man from housekeeping. Every other staff member was consistently either talking with each other or friends who had stopped by the hotel or staring at their phones but not engaging with the guests. It happened at the valet stand, at the front desk the day we arrived (and the following two days), on the elevator and in the halls. We had the same experience with the restaurant staff but I reviewed that separately. Our first night, as we headed out for dinner, we asked the young woman at the front desk to have staff make up the sofa bed for our child. When we returned several hours later, we found a pile of pillows and blankets on top of the king size bed, but the sofa bed wasn't made up. We weren't even sure how to open the sofa bed and my husband had to go downstairs and ask. Every single day we were there, except one, our room wasn't made up by the time we came back in the evening, even though we had been out for hours. It was like they saw our do not disturb sign in the morning but never bothered to check if it was removed at some point later in the day. The one time it was made up, my husband had called about an hour in advance of us returning (around 4 p.m.) to ask if they had made up the room so there's a very real chance that it wouldn't have been made up that day, either. The other times, we had to hunt down a maid to make up the room or just gave up and asked for fresh towels. Not a single time that the room was made up did they make up the sofa bed, however. We always came back to a tangled pile of sheets and pillows that we had to remake. The room was spacious and beautiful (we really like the modern city loft-like feel), the bathroom was clean and modern, and the view was stunning. Those things all deserve 4 or 5 stars. However, I've been to hotels of all types in cities all over the world and this was absolutely the worst service I've ever experienced. Management needs to come in and completely overhaul their training methods. If management is the problem, then that should be addressed. The Melby should be the crown jewel of historic downtown Melby but with this level of service, it will never be.

I saw less expensive rates for other dates, so it may have been high for the Holiday. We stayed in Suite 7, which faces the parking lot but you can see the ocean from the kitchen. Because we were traveling, we didn't check our email in the morning. Why should this matter? When we got there we kept looking for the office. Heads up - no office. I went to call them to see what we should do when I found a text message telling me what the code for the door was. Again, we were traveling and I am not the sort of person who is glued to my phone. Just a heads up if you stay here. You don't check in - you get a text. This 'suite' had a queen size bed. The only chairs were fold up chairs put next to a very small fold up wooden table in the kitchen. There was no place else to sit, except the bed. There is a kitchen with pots, pans, etc but no toaster. We didn't discover that until we tried to make breakfast. There is a Keurig, microwave, fridge, and stove in the room. The AC was loud but cooled off the place nicely. At night though when it would kick on it would raise up the sheet off me. Sorta strange. The room could have definitely been cleaner. I'm not sure when the last time the kitchen window sill had been wiped off. There were many dead bugs on it. The bead board in the bathroom was separated from the wall and they tried to use caulk to 'fill' it. It didn't work. The shower was small but nice. My only gripe was there was no place to set down the soap or shampoo, wash cloth, etc. They do provide soap, shampoo, and conditioner and they aren't stingy with them! The building we were in needs to be updated. There is a lovely patio out by the ocean with comfortable seats and stunning views. There is a dune and they have a wooden stairway down to the beach. The beach is incredible. It is like you have your very own private beach. The Sea View also has chairs, umbrellas, floats, etc for your use. Oh and there is a fish cleaning station if you surf fish. I gave the place 3 stars due to the location. If I stay here again, it will be in the building with the rooms that face the ocean, not in the back building. For the price, we could have stayed elsewhere but the seemingly private beach is great. I hope the owners update the property a bit though.

Despite booking last minute we were upgraded from a King to a King Suite because of our points membership. The room was exceptionally clean! And it was huge! Much larger than your average King suite. I wish I took pictures but we were exhausted by the time we arrived. The front desk staff were very kind and the beds were more comfortable than my own memory foam at home! Seriously, I NEED to find out what mattress and/or topper they use. Despite being in a connecting room (it could be connected if we wanted to but we didn't have any others with us), there was absolutely no noise at all which I was worried about in the beginning due to some really excited kids (not their fault it was thanksgiving after all ); but the front desk staff almost immediately kindly asked their parents to settle them down. The only thing I will say is that the free breakfast buffet wasn't too great but it is a 3 star hotel and it was free.
