This was a bucket list item on our trip to NOLA, and I'm glad we made it. Reading other reviews, I…read morecan totally get feeling ripped off by paying a $20 cover charge. I had a different experience as we went before 7 pm, so no cover charge and we did not have any of the issues with bad service. The drinks were ok, and I agree, a little overpriced. The Atelier Vie Rouge was a nice drink, but I left without feeling any effects, so perhaps also on the lower end of ABV. I also agree that the plastic drink cups could use some enhancement. Surely, there are plastic or perhaps even some eco-friendly materials that are shaped more in line with the atmosphere However, the inside is the attraction here, and it was a relaxed, goth-cool vibe. Great music, fun projected images, artwork, and even some shrines.

To begin with , its very tricky to find, as you have to ask someone in black outside a bar the instructions, instructed to you, its def fun if/when you're tipsy.. Wonder why their is a cover charge, when you have end up buying drinks seperately inside. There also is a very persistant tarot reader which puts off the entire mood, especially when you're continously asked to have your tarot read... i must give it to the drinks, I tried 2 and they were amazing, the Love Potion comes with a souvinier glass mini bottle, to take home and the bottles def are amazing. The couches are very mystic and the decorations have an vampy aura around it, which is pretty awesome.. Minus the tarot reader and the non pic policy and the cover charge, its pretty awesome...

If I could give this place negative stars I would. First of…read moreall, it was described as having multiple rooms. It does not. There is an area with a bar and some booths and then an open doorway to another room with tables and a stage. That's it. When we sat down at the bar, my husband started to ask the bartender if he knew anything about a Praline Old Fashioned because he had it somewhere else and loved it. The bartender cut him off rudely and gave him an attitude saying he had no idea. So he just ordered a regular old fashioned. The bartender basically slammed it down on the bat in front of him, a foot away from the napkin he had previously put down in front of it. It was served over regular ice. I'm sorry but for the prices they are charging, they should have specialty ice balls or cubes for and Old Fashioned. I ordered an espresso martini which was AWFUL. There was a live jazz singer (female) who was AWFUL. We left after one drink. We would NOT recommend this place and won't return.

The drinks were amazing and the service kept the night smooth. I booked one of the privacy booths and it's honestly the best part. It gives you enough space and confidentiality to kiss in peace without feeling like the whole room is watching. The vibe in this place is unmatched. Even the door to the performance area is this giant mirror looking piece that makes the whole place feel extra theatrical. I can't wait to go back and I'm definitely bringing friends next time. This spot is a gem.

So glad we had an opportunity to reserve tickets (highly recommend you do) for this intimate musical experience. It highlights the incredible talent, creativity, passion and FUN these artists have for jazz and their instruments. Feeding off each other's energy and really had you moving in your seat. Front seats are WORTH the money!! Each artist got to highlight a song of their choosing and each one ATE! They left no crumbs. I must have been a smiling fool in the 2nd row seats, but music, personally, is the best way to get through me. Years in music myself, I understand the dedication and commitment it takes. You FEEL that here when they are on stage performing. Jazz and its spontaneity and history is the cornerstone to Preservation Hall. I LOVE that there is no recording/picture taking allowed (unless the artists strictly tell you otherwise). It helps keep their art intact but helps immerse yourselves with them into their craft. Living in the moment. The last song they kindly let us record/take pictures and I will treasure them until I can come back. Side note: that trumpeter (I believe his name was Will?) has a VOICE as smooth as velvet and I was mesmerized. Video shows a brief moment of the night.

Think- jazz in your living room and about 80-100 of your friends. Bring cash to tip the band. I wish I would've known to do that. Merch for purchase, including CDs and Vinyl. No videos or photos during the show. The time goes by so much quicker than you imagine. Def leaves you wanting to come back...

The Apothecary was the cure. We grabbed seats mid bar and before we even finished settling in, there were waters waiting on the bar. That simple move already separated this place from the chaos outside. It's hospitality in its cleanest form: welcome in, take a breath, we got you. Inside is low light and old time apothecary mood, menus like a spellbook, but it's not gimmicky. The bartenders move like they've done the reps. Calm. Precise. No frantic showboating, no syrupy cover ups, no sloppy pours even with the parade energy banging on the door. We ordered two and they were both dead on. Alchemist Elixir: pea flower gin, elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon. It shows up pale violet with an orchid on the rim and yes it's pretty, but it's also disciplined. Floral without tasting like perfume. Bright without being sour. A drink that makes you slow down. Plus a magic chemists surprise. Corpse Reviver #2: local gin, Lillet Blanc, Grand Marnier, absinthe, fresh lemon. Cold, crisp, citrus first, then the herbal edge and just enough absinthe to remind you what city you're in. Served in a textured coupe with a cherry skewer, details handled like they actually matter. Outside, the streets were selling amnesia in plastic souvenir cups. Inside, The Apothecary was serving adults. Let Bourbon Street keep the grenades. Give me the anecdote .

I hear they're moving to a larger place which they have earned. When I first met the couple after they just opened this joint I was impressed with their leap of faith to create this place. The interior is an Alice in Wonderland full of whimsy, interesting art and beautifully designed decor that screams fun. Just like on my first JazzFest in 1987 an elderly man with one tooth in his mouth ambled up to me and said "if you can't have fun in New Orleans, you ain't got a pulse" My friend and I ordered the following Gris Gris with espresso: gris gris banana brown sugar gelato, praline rum ball, brûléed banana, caramel rum drizzle, cinnamon dust, espresso boozy version option: spiced rum evo drizzle option: koroneiki It was delicious and was a perfect ending after we had a great meal. I look forward to their move to their new location which I heard will have an event space. All the best to Drip and the Drippetts.
