I do want to start saying the vibe is cozy and the service was phenomenal. But...My wallet hurts. I had a decently priced cocktail at $15. I decided to switch to wine thinking it would be around $8-10 a glass for the house wine. Nope. $14 a glass. Ok my bad for not asking. But still yikes. This was after a $20 cover for the show. Hopefully they add a wine list with pricing or else I'll just have to stick to water :(

Picture exceptional musicians playing traditional jazz in your living room or backyard. There are no frills, light shows, just benches and standing room areas which allow you to be transported back in time when jazz was king. From their website: "Operating as a family business, Preservation Hall supported the unique culture of traditional jazz in New Orleans, which developed in the local melting pot of African, Caribbean, and European musical traditions at the turn of the 20th Century. Preservation Hall was a rare space in the South where racially integrated bands and audiences shared music together during the Jim Crow era." I would strongly suggest that you purchase your tickets well in advance as these shows sell out. In the past the Hall was BYOB and there were no rest rooms. They have upped their game and there is a full bar and bathrooms! Each show is only 45 minutes in length for those 45 minutes you are in for a truly magnificent experience.

This is a historic spot. It's small inside- not fancy- it's real. No big lights, no big speakers,…read moreno mixers or autotune. Think- sitting in the living room. Old church style benches. Get your tickets early. The musicians were great- music was great. I loved it.

We planned to have dinner here and was seated in a casual area with lower tables. While nice to sit for a casual drink was not up to par for parties who planned to dine in. Our first server we asked to move had declined our request. Stating there wasn't any room to accommodate. Which to be fair is fair when it's a Saturday night. However, we had made reservations and was astonished this wasn't an accommodation for a party they knew was coming in ahead of time. Thankfully, my friend went up to the host to request a table change, and was eventually accommodated with a booth. Booth can sit 6 people comfortably and 7 was a tad squish so they immediately offered an ottoman for someone to sit in the end. Food was delicious, most of us ordered the steak and frites.

However, a few of our drinks took longer than expected to arrive, which temporarily paused the fun and conversation while we wondered where they were. That aside, the staff were all very pleasant. You'll find street parking and there were some parking garages within walking distance.

We walked into Toulouse Dive Bar to escape the hustle and bustle of Bourbon St. Josh was bartending and we ended up spending 3 hours at Dive bar. The pool tables and environment was a great escape from the craziness of Bourbon, and the happy hour specials cannot be beat. Josh immed made us feel like regulars, even though we are from out of town. He told us he would be there again the next night; we came back with a friend and stayed for hours. He told us he would be at the sister bar, Molly's, the following night. Again, We returned, especially for Josh. We will absolutely be coming back to Toulouse Dive Bar and Molly's on our next visit to New Orleans!

What you will notice is the thing that is most exciting about this place isn't the ghost stories, not the drinks, not the staff, but it is the bathroom door. Yep, the bathroom door. Here it is, and it looks like a bookshelf. You can see about the 3rd row down, there is a space where you can see a stick figure sideways, and that is the handle to the bathroom. Pretty cute. Had to use the bathroom here and it was a wrap and on to the next spot. Of course we tried the drinks, but it was a pretty basic bar, so nothing more to brag about there.

The place is beautifully decorated, food was a bit pricey but worth the experience, and the star of the show was definitely our amazing server Charlie! Charlie gave us a tour of the upstairs area known for its spirits and told us fun ghost stories and sightings about the place as well as its history! It was the only place I felt in the French Quarter that I really felt the presence of ghosts. Upstairs in the dark blue room with the chandelier my friend and I kept catching green blobs in all of our pictures both on my digital camera and her iphone. Highly recommend if you are looking for a lunch spot with great spooky ambience and rich history!

To be clear, I don't care about the money, but I value the good energy I receive in NOLA. The oysters and the other item I got were mediocre. But then when I left, I saw a sign outside saying a dozen oysters were on special during the Happy Hour period I was there in for $12. So they looked me in the eye and decided to rob me (not of money, of human decency) instead of letting me know about the special. Stay away from this crappy place, there are countless cool people and joints in this wonderful town.

The worn brick, detailed ironwork on walls and windows, and gold embellished ceiling tiles over the bar help give the interior a warm, castle like feel. I don't know of any other place where you can get an assortment of cocktails in a blood bag, which is their main gimmick. I opted for the sangria, which was very good. My husband ordered the Eggs Your Way, and I split the Vampire Breakfast Burger with a friend. His breakfast was good, though not great, as the biscuit and potatoes were a bit overdone. The burger was very good, as were the side of french fries. The only issue was that there was some sort of disconnect between the waitress and kitchen, and the burger didn't get to our table until everyone else in our large party had eaten. This is a great spot to visit and enjoy something unique. Seats fill up quickly, so plan ahead.

What the actual EF is happening here?…read more I walked into Vampire Cafe because I desperately had to pee and was more than willing to buy a drink at the bar. I wasn't trying to sneak into the bathroom. I wasn't trying to squat behind a plant. I was a PAYING CUSTOMER IN WAITING. The hostess told me I couldn't just get a drink at the bar. Okay. Fine. So I said, "No problem. Put me down for a table. I'll order food. I'll order drinks. I'll spend money. I just need to use the bathroom." NOPE. At this point my bladder was fighting for its life, so I offered to literally HAND THIS WOMAN $20 CASH TO LET ME PEE. $20. FOR A TOILET. SHE STILL SAID NO. I have never been so personally victimized by a bathroom in my entire life. Like girl, WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M GOING TO DO IN THERE? Steal the toilet? Perform an exorcism? I was willing to BUY A DRINK. I was willing to BUY FOOD. I was willing to SIT DOWN AND BECOME A FULL-FLEDGED CUSTOMER. I WAS WILLING TO PAY A TWENTY-DOLLAR TOILET TOLL. And somehow the answer was still NO PEE FOR YOU. At this point it stopped being about the bathroom and became a bizarre psychological experiment to see how badly a human being can need to pee before they simply start crying. And the funniest part? OUR GHOST TOUR GUIDE RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE. We actually came in excited to get a Vampire Bag. Instead, Vampire Cafe became the first place in NOLA to make me think, "You know what? EFFFFFF THIS PLACE."

As you turn to the left, you enter the bar and the smell of turpentine hits your nose. The bar looks like a scene from the 1920's just as was built over a 100 years ago. The music and bartenders fit the role. I got the French 75...that's what they're known for. I took one for the team on that one because I really don't like champagne. Cheers to the fighter pilots! The guyaba colada was where it's at. What a unique perfectly balanced craft cocktail. The ingredients all come together so it's very hard to pinpoint what's actually in it. La grande dame...you can smell the roses as they make the drink. Ironically, the drink did not taste like roses. It was a balanced citrus based cocktail with a touch of sour from the fresh lime. Very delicious and delightful. Makulu makai- looks like a work of art! Tastes like candy with a blend of lime and fresh mixed fruit with lime. It doesn't taste like alcohol because it's balanced to perfection. So good! Fall old fashioned called the southern gentleman - bourbon brown butter washed with pecan - a bit on the sweet side from the brown butter. Tastes like dessert, not overly alcohol forward as most old fashioned are because the brown butter tones it down some...great work!

We found a seat, ordered our drinks, and had a great time once they arrived. The space could have been better maintained- floors were noticeably soiled with spilled drinks and napkins, and there didn't seem to be much effort to clean up during our visit. The drinks themselves were excellent. I had a French 75, and my husband ordered a Sazerac. We also got some fries to go along with our drinks since we were bar hopping and not planning a full meal. The fries were good and paired nicely with the cocktails.Service was generally fine, but overall the cleanliness and upkeep of the space took away slightly from the experience, which is a shame given the reputation of the place.
