I had my floors installed in January 2021. This was a disaster from the beginning, The transitions were a different color, the gaps between the quarterround and the floor were awful. They stuffed crap in between the gaps to fill in spaces, then came back and caulked the ever living hell out of it, and to the floor. Then the floor boards separated. Someone came in and kicked it closed and said it's fixed. Then the floor separated again. They replaced the entire hallway flooring. They still separated, at this point it was out of warranty and I gave up. Four years later we are replacing these floors. When we pulled them up, we found that they nailed all the quarter round through the floor. It's a FLOATING floor, this is why they became unlocked. Then we found where they glued the flooring peices together and to the blue foam underlayment. There were peices shorter than 8 inches cut and put in where they did not measure correctly. This is the worst flooring job my husband has ever seen, this was done before we were married, and he is in construction. Half the stuff they did was completely wrong. We had our flooring installed by Empire Today just over three years ago. About a year ago, we began noticing a bump in the floor extending to the wall, along with the LVP starting to rip up. After reaching out to Empire Today, an employee came to assess the situation. The technician removed more of the floor and used red tape to hold things in place, and then took more than three weeks to get back to us. We sent multiple emails during this period, yet received no response. When we finally heard back, we were told that the installers did not properly level the floor and that we would be charged over $1,200 to fix the issue. To say we are appalled by this response is an understatement. The problem was a result of an installation error on your part, and yet we are being asked to cover the cost of fixing it. This entire experience has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I am extremely disappointed in Empire, specifically the original sales person I met with. He made everything sound so great and even told me that I could change my mind up until the carpet installation date. When I changed my mind and tried to cancel the order, I was told that not only did the salesman give me incorrect information, he also neglected to tell me there was a restocking fee if I canceled! I could not afford to lose $700+, so I had to find something that I could live with. Clearly, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing at Empire, because I received two copies of every call, text, and email from them. Today, after the installation, I was shocked to discover that my carpeted floors now feel as hard as a rock, and the pad + carpet is so much thinner than my previous ones, that you can see spaces under the baseboards/floor trim in some areas. In addition, the Empire paperwork states that it will be tack less installation. So, I expected them to remove the tack boards that were under my old carpet, but they didn't, they used the same ones. I also asked the salesman to note my account that my baseboards were going to be newly painted at the time of the installation and that the installers should be careful not to scratch them, if possible. I also mentioned that to the installation crew this morning. However, there are a few big scratches in my paint in some areas. Lastly, I was surprised and not happy to see that the installers kept their shoes on the entire time they were working on my carpet (which is nearly white!) and I never allow anyone on my carpet with shoes! I kept a small sample of my original pad, my original carpet, the new pad, and the new carpet, to show Empire if they try to gaslight me. And although the previous owner of my home purchased the carpet I had removed today, it was only four years old; it was from Home Depot. I am shocked to see that the quality of the Home Depot pad is by far better than the one I received from Empire today. We had Empire Today install our viny flooring on main level and we were happy with the work. Two years later we had Empire Today install carpeting on our lower level. We noticed that the carpet going down the hallway is a slightly different shade and therefore the seam is quite noticeable. Also, 2 of our ceiling tiles were somehow damaged. I talked to customer service and sent photos. It has been more than 3 weeks and have not been resolved. No one has contacted us about how we move forward. Having new flooring installed during a pandemic can seem daunting, but everyone I had contact with from Empire wore masks (as did I) which was comforting. I needed two rooms done, dining room and family room, and I had decided to put hardwood floors in my dining room. I put installation off for a week as it happens in two parts: boxes of wood would be dropped off on Monday to acclimate to the temperature and humidity in my home and installed on Thursday. I was told the carpet would be ripped up that day, giving me time to seal the subflooring with Kilz (naughty doggies). At the sales visit I also selected carpet for my family room, though I changed my mind. More on that later. The crew arrived on Monday July 13, 2020, to drop off the hardwood for acclimation. They were surprised they were supposed to rip up my dining room carpet that day, but one of the installers said no problem, he´d come back later that afternoon and take care of it, which I greatly appreciated. By the way, painting your floor with Kilz will not stop dogs from continuing to wee in their favorite spots, SMH. They returned on Friday to install the hardwood in my dining room, a several hours long, VERY loud process. As they prepared to add the finishing quarter rounds and T rounds where my new hardwood abutted my existing ceramic tile, the installer realized they were all defective. He had to call to have a new shipment delivered and assured me they could finish the next day. However, the next day was Saturday and the trucks only deliver on Tuesdays, so..... I was in touch with my salesman, David Larson, throughout the process and he had the Regional Manager call me to talk about these delays. He did call that afternoon and assured me he would get back to me later in the week to see what they could do to make me happy. That never happened. Tuesday morning they arrived and completed the job, cleaned up, and I was finally, after ten days of my dining room furniture stuffed in my hallway and kitchen, able to move the furniture in. Here I´ll take a moment to note that Empire´s hardwood floors are prefinished and kiln dried so there´s no sanding, staining, varnishing needed. While a floor finished the long was is a silkier smooth floor, you get to avoid having that going on in your house for three weeks. After seeing my gorgeous dining room I had second thoughts about the carpet I ordered for my family room, so I changed my order to hardwood and paid the difference and I am so glad I did. I love the floors, but the second installation team was not as good. I had to ask them to return to their trucks and get their masks before I let them in, they left chunks and scraps of wood all throughout my front garden (both teams cut the wood on my front sidewalk to keep the sawdust out of my house), they forgot to order T rounds and had to go to Home Depot to buy some, then after they left I realized they had not filled in any of the nail holes with putty. I had to buy a jar and fill them myself. This team gets two stars, so it affected my overall rating. Pictures below. Looking at the overall rating here and some of the negative comments folks have posted, I have to wonder if we are talking about the same company. My experience with Empire Today was very positive. I reached out to a number of companies and went with Empire Today because they had a short wait time, a good selection of products, and the price was within the budget I set based on my research. The salesperson they sent out, Bill was great. He was knowledgeable about their products and the process, gave me a heads up about the need to change products after the installation team inspects the floor, and was extremely responsive throughout. We did have to go with a different product after the floor was inspected, but once that was sorted, everything went smoothly and we were very happy with the result. The only thing I would have like to have seen done differently is that it would have been nice if the measurements to ensure that the floor was level enough for certain products could have been done during the sales visit. But compared to my past experiences of putting down flooring myself, or buying the material myself and having a handyman do it, this was so much quicker and easier. And compared to other flooring companies and other home improvement companies I've worked with the communication was far better than I expected. read more

My complaint is 95% related to the installation and 5% Empire. The bathroom floor installation was to be on a Saturday. I received a call from Empire early Saturday morning advising the installer was finishing a job and we would be next. Not hearing again, I called Empire around 2pm and was told he'd be here in approximately an hour/hour and a half. The installer arrived approximately 3:45pm. He appeared very rushed, as was his assistant who arrived approximately 4pm. They cut the planks, etc. in the garage. They were rushed to be sure. At 5pm they said they had to leave for the day. The flooring was laid but not the baseboards or.the necessary caulking around the tub. He asked if he could leave his tools and come back Sunday morning 7am. I said okay. He left without cleaning up anything, including the hallway where they did prep work. He returned Sunday at 7:30am, "finished" in around 45 minutes and left. We shouldn't have let him leave before inspecting the floor better than we did. The baseboards were loosely attached, with gaps. Nails were protruding. The end of a 3/4 round was left bare. No tub caulking. We found a mess in the garage. The old flooring was in a heap. A box of extra floor paneling, which was extremely heavy, was left in the garage. We weren't told about any of this. My biggest complaint.....the man asked what I paid for the floor. I thought his asking totally inappropriate especially considering he had the paperwork in his hands. When I told him $700.00 he appeared upset and told me that he was only making $100.00 on this job. Proceeded to complain about it for what seemed like minutes. My first thought was I was sure Empire would not appreciate a contractor that they sent out, to put a customer in such a situation. Much less complain about Empire. I contacted Empire and told them the situation. Notes were taken and I was told I'd hear back within 2 to 3 business days. I believe I called on a Thursday. Today is Friday. 8 days after my call. Had our carpet installed a few weeks ago, and it looks great! However, their Customer Service leaves a lot to be desired! I've called everyday this week to try to get someone out here to fix a hole in our carpeting created by our dog, and have gotten nothing but crickets! The other complaint I have is the installers dropped a metal tool to use on the staircase, and it slipped and fell on our china cabinet, leaving a nice dent in it! The installers also failed to leave any remnants of leftover carpet, which only adds to the problem of getting our carpet repaired. After purchasing the product, it was installed within a few days and it was seamless installation. After 5 months we loved the floor quality so much that we called Dan to come back and quote for more carpet and LVP to finish our home with all new floors. I have used Empire multiple times, and this time what a disaster! Installers could not communicate with me, as the did not speak English. Refused to show me the product they were going to install until I somehow communicated that I was not going to give them my credit card until they showed me. Took THREE times before I finally had to use my Google translate to communicate (totally unacceptable). A very small project took all day, they left doors open despite me continually closing them and my house is now full of flies. My husband and I moved from Virginia to NC to be closer to our children. We purchased a house and decided to call Empire Today, since we had heard such great things about them. It is just my husband, myself and my elderly Aunt living in the home. We was told that we had a lifetime warranty on the floors, that cost over $11,000. We have only had them 2 years and they have started separating and the vinyl is coming off of them in 3 different places. I contacted Empire and they wanted me to pay to have someone come look at them to see if it was covered under warranty. Well folks..Empire rose to the occasion and completed our home on Rhode Island Avenue. We just purchased it in June last year. It was full of carpet main level. We bought Mohawk vinyl plank, 938 sq. feet approximately, mocha brown with upgraded underlay, quarter round and transition strips. The floors have slight variations in color and small amount if raised grain but you cannot feel it when you walk on it. The Empire experience was great, You book on line, they confirm appointment. Minnesota does not do $99 room sales. There is some history to that you can look up why on the internet. Invoicing is easy to understand..cost of materials, labor and total. Salesman, Chris, brings a world of samples and lets you know the advantage of each. He was credible and upfront about all questions and concerns with my daughter. He measured well, knew his stuff, made suggestions and was knowledgeable. You pay 50% down at the time of contract and the rest by phone on install day. They confirmed appointment 1 week earlier, arrived about 30 minutes past but called to say on the way. Arrived with all materials They remove all your old floor product and move all furniture in and out of rooms as they work. They haul all old material away and all boxes from product install. They( two installers) completed foyer, laundry, guest bath, living room, dining room, kitchen and family room. Outstanding trim skills and cutting. They were very professional. High quality installers, equipped with miter and regular saw, attention to detail and permission with each and every step as they cut and laid. Miter details on floor around fireplace hearth impeccable; 1/4 round and cuts excellent. The salesman stopped by during install. Very impressed! They moved all appliances, reset toilet, but they do not reinstall appliance connections. Be sure you know where gas and water shut offs are in your home to disconnect gas stove, fridge water line and dryer gas, washer , etc. Be prepared if fittings have been on a while to get help and use proper tools.in your removal of gas lines. They do not install under dishwashers all the way or you will have hard time getting it back under your counter as the flooring will raise your height space. They hand-built the stair treads from flooring and trimmed them all out. Tedious and perfect results. The house was built 1985 so the floors combined with our new granite are stunning. $9800, more pricey than competitor but worth every penny. They staged in the garage and cut there. They had perfect stock of materials and we had two boxes flooring left we kept to spare. They cleaned up. They walked through at the end to inspect all areas and made a few adjustments. They were open to suggestions about finishing details on the stair areas. You will have a lot of residual dust settle for about a day after install so you may have to wait a day and clean floors again and then put back all items. It took about 2 and 1/2 days. They asked to work long hours after arrival and were allowed to. Thank you Empire for restoring our faith in floor companies. Our home is beautiful, looks 20 years younger and now feels incredible. Extremely disappointed, they charged me before my floors were completed, they left several parts of the floor incomplete with no trim, and advised to call in for an appointment after they were already here twice, they 3rd party took off my toilet and I had to have a plumber come to repair that at $600, the empire rep was nasty, rude and I would not ever again consider this company, liem the rep for my area refused to let me talk to anyone and since she is rep for the Philadelphia market would not assist in any way. Purchased carpeting from vendor and quality is very poor. Already showing wear ahead of time and buckling. Rep was flagging expectation to have it professionally cleaned every 18 months or it voids the warranty (which is business standard) that was not highlighted in any sense at time of purchase. Our carpet is okay, however we were strongly encouraged to get the extended warranty which covers $100 rebate on carpet cleaning. We got the carpet cleaned (I went through Angi) and I submitted the receipt and it didn't say paid on it, so I got a receipt saying paid and how it was paid, still not good enough, then I submitted the paid credit card receipt, and still not good enough. The only reason I can think of is because the cleaner was an independent contractor and not a nationally recognized company. Well maybe that should be in the fine print of the care contract. I'll start by saying the Sales Representative was very courteous and very professional. Listen to what I was looking for and offered suggestion. Everything went down hill after signing the contract. I signed the contract the the beginning of July 2020 and requested installation on 15 August 202, needed time to paint and complete other updates that were best done before new carpeting is installed. During the 1.5 months from contact signing and installation I get confirmation emails for installation on 15 August 2020. Confirm installation each time I was sent and email. The Monday before installation receive a confirmation email for the up coming Saturday, 15 August 2020. Wanting to try an plan the day call and ask for a 24 hour notice as to when I can expect the installers. Told some where between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Very wide time frame so I ask if the day before I can get a narrower time frame, told no. Requested to speak with a manager, none available, so ask for call back. Three hours later manager finally calls me, told that the best they can do is the 8:00 AM - 6 PM time frame. Very cocky manager told me that is how they been doing business for 50 years and they are not going to change. Day of install, 15 August 2020, get a automated call from Empire at 8:15 AM saying the installers would be at me house with in the next 2 hours. At 9:30 AM received a call from the installer that they didn't have the proper padding for the carpet I order in stock at the shop so they were going to Home Depot and Menards to try and find the proper padding. Requested the installers have the manager call me so I can discuss with the manager why the proper padding wasn't available when Empire had known for 1.5 months that it would be needed for the install on 15 August 2020. Installers show up at my house at approximately 10:30 AM, have an upgraded padding in the van, thinking OK, getting an upgrade. Look at the amount of carpeting they have with them, tell the installers that I didn't think there was enough carpeting to complete the job. Installers tell me there is. I say OK, go to work. Installers remove old carpeting and padding, start to layout new carpeting. At approximately 1:30 PM one of the installers comes tells me they are short on carpeting for 1 room in the lower level, ask if they should continue with the installation of the other areas, I said yes, after all he house is unusable until at least the upper level is complete. Installers, continue to layout the new carpeting that they have. At 4:30 PM, I'm told they will not be able to complete the installation because one is not feeling well and they would be back on Monday 17 August 2020 with the additional carpeting and complete the job. Nothing was completed, can not use the house. Call customer service to complain, requested to speak to a manager, no manager available until Monday. SO now I have to take vacation day on 17 August 2020 so I can be home for the installers to complete the job. 17 August 2020, I get a call from Empire at approximately 7:45 AM that installers will not be out until 18 August 2020 because the additional carpet needed won't be in until later today. Now I need to take another day of work so I can meet the installers and let them in. Again ask for a manager to call me to discuss this poor performance and lack of customer service. So as of today 17 August 2020 at approximately 10:00 AM, I still haven't heard from a manager from my request(s) on Saturday 15 August 2020 nor has a manager call for my request earlier today. VERY, VERY bad performance and customer service. DId not live up to contract, managers will not call and talk about the poor service. Would NOT recommend using Empire Today type of service. I was supposed to get a large piece of the vinyl floor for a future installation. What was left was scraps. I don't fault the installers. The reason for my low rating is Empire's customer service and issue resolution. Wait times to their toll free number exceeded 75 minutes. On line chat was non existent other than a robot. I did get the phone number of a manager and his mailbox was full. No resolution yet. Might have to find a matching tile elsewhere. He asked exactly what we wanted and didn't pressure us in the least. In fact we enjoyed talking with him. We waited a few days to order and then made a decision with the carpet. Installation and turn around was fast. We ordered on Tuesday and they had an opening on Wed, but we opted for Friday instead. Installers ended up being a little early which was nice. They helped us move the heavy stuff and were friendly and hard working. These guys work their asses off. The whole installation took about 5 hours. The seams we thought they're would see are not visible at all. The carpet looks great. Wasn't sure with the reviews, but our experience was great. Start to finish. read more

I was skeptical with using a big name Company, but Empire was able to have our carpet installed the next day after I spoke with them initially, and they were hands down the least expensive. They did a great job installing the carpet and were in and out. A week later, my dear daughter knocked over an unopened jar of paint that was on her dresser (we were prepping to move) She then tried (unsuccessfully) to clean it. Someone had suggested I call Empire to see if there was any type of a warranty. I figured I would check, and while it wasn't covered under their warranty (which was completely understandable since this was in no way Empire's fault), they were very sympathetic to the situation. DO NOT use Empire! We were told it was a one day job. Took 5 days! The installers never showed up before 11:00 am. I called the office and was told that they can show up anytime prior to 6:00 pm. The customer service was the worst experience ever! When the installation was complete we had 6 holes in our sheet rock where then used a pry bar to take off our trim boards. We called and make a complaint. They said they would pay the repairs. We had it repaired paid it out of our pocket. They agreed to credit our bill. It was has been 3 months and still no credit. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! We tried to save a buck and it ended up being a nightmare! read more

Our carpet installation was terrible. The lines of the carpet are going a different direction than what was discussed and agreed with salesman. Plus no transitions installed but discussed with installers to install. Cut at a corner of carpet not fixed or glued down. Worse is the carpet on the stairs installers left a 1/4" gap on both sides. Called customer service and they have scheduled a different installer to hopefully fix all the issues. read more

RUN AWAY NOW! I've been waiting to write a review as I was hoping they would outlive their horrible reputation here on YELP but sadly they have not. On 3/2/17 we purchased carpet for our basement (50.67 yards). We are in the process of redoing several things in our new home and were ready to install a built-in unit in our basement but wanted to get carpet in before doing so. Our sales consultant Matt, seemed knowledgeable and willing to provide great service so we signed on the dotted line and scheduled the install. My husband and I walked through the basement with him and with it being one large room we requested there be no seams. Matt Jones (the sales guy) said this would be no problem. On 3/6/17 the installers showed up and laid down the "upgraded pad" and "high-end" carpet we paid for. Upon completion, my husband pointed out to the installers that not only was there a seam but it was huge and running right through the middle of the room and it was very obvious. They told him, he had to take it up with the sales team. When I arrived home I noticed that the carpet strip used to secure the pad and carpet to the floor was not properly placed and secured as the metal prongs were poking through the carpet around every doorway. My husband called Matt to state we were unhappy with the installation, but we did not receive a return call. Later that week we had the large built-in installed in the basement and started looking for a sectional. Fast forward 3 weeks... (around March 30th) I started to notice the carpet, although new, was coming up from the corners and near the doorways with pieces or fibers creating a mess. The area is very low traffic as we presently have no other furniture down here and are using it for storage until we find a sectional we like. We have a contractor working on the master bathroom upstairs so I asked him to look at it for us and provide his opinion. He explained that not only were we sold a very cheap carpet and pad, but that it was defective and already delaminating. He told us to immediately call Empire and open a complaint. Obviously upset, my husband began calling the sales rep Matt Jones, who would reply to us initially only to refer us to a quality manager locally who would never call us back. We have strings of unanswered emails and phone calls all documented. We immediately called Synchronicity bank to file a complaint and state we would not pay for the defective product and they placed a hold on our account. We are so thankful we chose to finance the majority of our purchase as we are only out $400 cash presently. After weeks of phone calls, they agreed to come out for an inspection. The inspection took place on 4/14/17 and the tech said he thought the carpet looked defective, however, it wasn't until 4/25/17 when we received the inspection results. Empire has offered to replace our carpet, which they did a poor job of installing the first time, at no charge, but we are extremely concerned about the quality. They also told us they would not pay to have our built-in uninstalled and reinstalled. The built-in is on legs and the flooring is visible underneath so it would look very poor to simply install only up to the built-in itself. We've told them they can refund us all of our money and come take the carpet which they are also refusing to do. We are now into the third week of May and their team of lazy managers seem to be trying to avoid helping us. We schedule a call and they miss it, only to call us back 2 hours later when we are not available. It is clear they have been avoiding the situation hoping we go away. Today finally they email their corporate team completely missing every fault their team has made since the sale. At this point, all we want is our money back! I would do anything to go back in time and NEVER work with them. I'm really disappointed that I have to use social media to try and get an appropriate customer service response. We have formally filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will take legal action if they do not refund our purchase for defective materials and poor installation. read more

My wife and I got flooring in the basement. One of the installers cut his finger and bleed all over our bathroom, the walls in the basement, our gate and our door knob. I am not talking a little blood either, there was a trail of it across the walls, it was disgusting. He bled so much in the bathroom that we had to throw out the bathroom rug. I let customer service know and Patrick Reardon offered me a 1.5% discount, (he is a real treat, he can't hide the fact he does not care about the customer). This barely covered the cost of the rug. The installation was sloppy. There was lots of damage to our walls and trim. They left scrap pieces in the basement and yard. This is on top of the fact I spent the entire next day cleaning blood inside my home. It was a disgusting and frustrating experience. I would recommend using someone else. read more
