My real estate agent, Cody Anderson, recommended these guys to us. We were in the market for some colorful green and jazzy arcade carpeting for our new home. We stopped by the showroom on a weekday morning to look around; it was pretty quiet, so we weren't noticed right away. Loren came out to say hi and he let us look around, answering our questions as we had them. I was a bit surprised he didn't endeavor to do a lot of upselling/haggling or that sort of thing. He told us about the various options like wool and nylon and the pros/cons of each. He encouraged us to take a few boards with sample swatches on them back to our home so we could see the colors where they'd actually be installed, rather than under the store's fluorescent lighting. I appreciated that.
During the stop, I also inquired about the possibility of getting some arcade style carpeting for our home, acknowledging it was a little "out of the ordinary." Loren said he'd ask around and see if he could find a way to make it happen, since their showroom didn't have any on hand regularly. The next day when I dropped off the swatch boards, I spoke to Kayla (since Loren wasn't in yet), and inquired if any progress had been made with the arcade options. She enthusiastically went "Oh, that's you guys!" and pulled forth this absolutely massive binder from a company called "Joy Carpets & Co." so we could look it over and make a decision. I was instantly delighted, because this really is a childhood dream finally coming true for me. I took the binder home and poured over the dozens of options- so much in there, from the typical blacklight-activated neon you'd expect to carpeting themed for libraries, children's stores, theatres, sports centers, bowling alleys, aquariums, and more. I was... dare I say it... FLOORED by the options, LOL.
I had a pretty good idea of our dimensions since our home inspection included a digital floorplan. So I was able to relay our choices and size needs to Loren for an overall estimate of the project's cost, which he was able to calculate and send via email. Once all that was settled, Loren scheduled a time with me to come out to the property himself and do the prerequisite evaluation of dimensions and installation plan (since carpet comes in specific size rolls that don't always match your floorplan). That was a quick process, and we enjoyed some banter and chit-chat during that helped me feel like he both cared about the project and about me. Overall it was a nice experience to get to know one another better personally, rather than everything being purely a business transaction.
Loren sent me the invoices via email, which at my request, he itemized so I could see the exact pricing for the product (carpet and padding), install (labor), and removal of old flooring. Knowing my real estate agent had offered us help taking things to the dump, I asked Loren if we could put in the sweat equity and remove the old carpeting ourselves to save some money on the project. He was totally cool with that idea. I paid the invoices online via a link sent with the invoices to my email.
After that came the waiting game for the carpet manufacturers to fulfill the orders. Honestly the worst part! I got impatient after a week and shot Loren a quick text requesting and ETA and apparently it was the perfect day to inquire? Idk, but he said the carpet was on its way and we could then schedule the install. He gave me a couple of options on which day so I was able to select the one that worked best for us (which was a good thing, as we were about to go on a trip for the weekend). Living in our home carpetless with all our furniture in the garage was getting a bit old, but at least the spring weather in MN hasn't made it too rough on us, haha.
Carpet install day arrived and I found myself a smidge confused when they didn't arrive at 8AM as I'd expected. Anxiously I texted Loren, but didn't immediately receive a response... (it was his day off, oops) Eventually he got back to me that there'd just been a snag with pickup and they'd be there soon. They ended up arriving almost two hours late, but got right to work, consulting with me ahead of time to ascertain which carpeting went where (since we ended up getting three different patterns for three different rooms). The installers' English was not the best, but they showed me the carpet in the truck to make sure it was all as expected. The install went pretty quick, just around five hours time, and it was done reasonably well. Overall, quite happy with our carpeting experience through Brock's! read more
