I will spare you my saga, but a few things to note: they did not come on the first or the second day they said they would they did not let us know it would span over the course of more than a day they did not confirm our carpet was in stock until under 24 hours before they were supposed to be there (it wasn't. it wasn't in stock which was the cause of the first 2 WEEK delay within 24 hours of the install date) they also did not follow up with me to try and resolve anything despite the fact that the manager volunteered a discount and a follow up appointment to make it right. nothing was made right. they dont care. they don't care. they don't have to because they're a big brand. just go with the local business and/or set your expectations very low. read more

Empire called me and came in quickly to fix the carpet that stretched. It did cost me some money but not that much. Did the carpet lift off the floor because it came loose or did it stretch out? There initial price was good though too. read more

I wish there was an option for NO STARS!!! I have never had a worse experience than this! First of all, I did not receive notice that they changed the date of my installation which caused me to have to spend a weekend at a hotel because I had already moved all of my furniture. Speaking with customer service was an absolute nightmare, one rep lied about what he told me about the installation date and I had to have his manager listen to the call then he called me back with an apology. The BEST part was they during the carpet installation the men PUT A HOLE IN MY FLOOR which came down through my ceiling!!! I was told that I would have to pay for the repair myself (although I couldn't afford it since I just paid for the service) then they didn't want to pay for all of it. No one wanted to take full responsibly except the guys that did the carpet. I got vinyl flooring and carpet in my entire house. The vinyl trim work was pretty sloppy work. Decided to go with Empire after a recommendation from my sister although the online reviews were not great. Couldnt be happier with the entire experience. The salesman who came to our house was great, informative and helpful and the installers of both the vinyl plank and the carpet were friendly, prompt and seemed to take pride in their work. The floor was installed wrong with lots of gaps. No pride in their work. 4. An inspector said the job was bad and they would redo it. They said we would get money back for the issues. 5. I called for an estimate. Salesman shows up promptly. Provides an estimate, clearly states "All-inclusive Pricing". Really good price doing over 800 sq/ft. Installation date rolls around, no one shows up. Contact Empire, installer claims they knocked and even called me (I work from home). Set new installation date. Installers show up. Inspect the house. Say they have to go get some equipment, leave and never return. Contact Empire. Installer says that they won't do the job because there is a 25 sq/ft area that needs new subfloor. They didn't want to tell me, so they left. Asked for a refund of my money (I foolishly pre-paid). Contract says 10 days, Empire says 3 weeks. Do NOT do business with these people. I recently purchased $7,000 in new floors for my house and nothing but issues....The vinyl has air bubbles everywhere and have seams that were done sloppily. Then they had to shave my doors after they put in a sub floor i did not need. When they shaved the door it is un-even and needs replaced looks like a child with a saw got a hold of it.They left the old vinyl in the house and installed new over instead of tearing out as they said they would. Carpet was even worse experience the scuffed my walls and now need a painter to touch them up. They didnt bother to cut out the vents i had to and they threw one of my vents away luckily i found it. They also never installed the runner on the stairs as they were supposed to and I PAYED FOR!!!!!!!!!!! And to top it off ive been fighting for three weeks to get someone to fix it and compensate me for the damage and issues and no one wants to call me back or fix their mistakes and I fear I will need to find a lawyer and sue for damages and not providing the service I PAID for! I was told because the installation was over a year, it is not covered by warranty. And I had to pay them $150 to come inspect it. Long story short - I told them they were not getting anymore of my money (but didn't say it that nicely). I don't know how anyone could used avoid this, if they won't call you back until your 1 year installation warranty is up, then your screwed. I put 1 Star up only because I couldn't put a negative 5 Star up. If you have a problem with installation, I would call & act interested in buying, that way someone will answer your call and BE RIGHT OUT. Good Luck - my advice is GO ELSEWHERE!! read more

Thinking of calling Empire? Think again! The salesman was on time and not pushy, the installers did a good enough job but another crew had to come back the next day to finish the job. Not only did the first set of installers leave my old carpet here. But the second set of installers left their scraps as well. My house looked like Dogpatch when they left. I'm trying to upgrade my home,not make it look worse. I had a Trash removal company come and take away the carpet it was 80.00. Empire said it would give me 47.00 off my bill but I have yet to see that reversed on my credit card. I've called and emailed Empire but have no one will return my call. I'm not rude or fanatic when I call I just want someone who will address the issues I have with the waste they left behind. Never again Empire. read more

From the salesperson to the installers and the installation process everything was top notch! We had a big project and salesperson said it would take 4-5 days to complete. Installers showed up Monday morning and job was finished by early Tuesday afternoon. That included taking out old flooring and moving furniture. Couldn't be more happier with the entire process. We recently used Empire to install Laminate and LVP in our kitchen and bathroom. This was the second time we have used Empire. They installed carpeting in our Living room a few years ago. The sales appointment went ok, we were able to find something we liked. They had many choices. Our installation date was scheduled a few weeks out due to Covid. The day came and we were excited to get our new flooring. The installer that came the first day did a pretty substandard job. There were quite a few areas that we were not happy with. I called the local office and the sent a technician our right away to do an inspection. We agreed there were many issues that needed to be resolved. They had to come to our home 3 more times to get everything completed. Throughout the process I worked with Dustin and Jacklyn and they were both accommodating and extremely professional. BUYER BEWARE!!!! If I could rate them 0/5, I would. Do not buy from Empire Today in Grand Rapids or any area serviced by the Grand Rapids regional office. First, we were sold two flooring options that the installers said were probably not the best for the locations (meaning they won't last as long due to the conditions - entry way and kitchen). Secondly, upon our first installation day, we were told the floor could not go in because the subfloor wasn't ready even though we did everything they told us to do to prepare it. Then, they were non-responsive when we were trying to get a new date scheduled. After tons of phone calls, all initiated by us, we got a date for the install two days later. THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP. We called again to find out what the issue was and apparently, the office had failed to actually set up the appointment. The installation manager, Justin Milhoun, even admitted that we were not scheduled because he failed to check his voicemail. So, we got the installs set up for the next day. Justin said he'd call me back to confirm, but never did. Instead, I just got confirmation emails. Great customer service. -_- Then, on install day, one of our floors got installed. NO ONE SHOWED UP TO INSTALL THE OTHER ONE. Instead, I got an email saying to confirm an appointment for that floor two days later. No call about a reschedule, no explanation, etc. I called customer service (non-regional) and they claimed they couldn't do anything, only the regional office could help reschedule it. Too bad the regional office never answered their phone or returned any of our voicemails. Even though we had a vacation planned and were supposed to leave that day, I had no choice but to confirm the new appointment. Well guess what...THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP FOR A THIRD TIME. Now I have pushed a vacation back, missed a Tigers game we had tickets to, and taken time out of three work days to try to get these floors. Not to mention we now haven't had a stove for 7 days because it's disconnected to get the floor in. Long story short, DO NOT BUY FROM THIS OFFICE. Terrible experience that is still not officially resolved and they plan to do nothing to make this right. read more

Do not use empire flooring. First of all, they have an extremely small selection for carpets. Second, the sales people are EXTREMELY pushy and they will not leave until you sign a contract. Third, if you decide to cancel said contract, you will continue to be harassed to try to get you to re-sign. ZERO out of five stars! They are awful! read more

I would never recommend Empire to anybody. The sales person said they would rip out the carpet, they didn't. A three day job took 8 days. The installers wouldn't show up until 11am and leave at 7pm. They reinstall our sink so they left it and said you need to call a plumber. I have called customer service and have not gotten a call back. I have told everybody I know not to use Empire. read more

On Thursday, April 5th 2018, i had an empire representative, Cindy, come in to my home and show her floors off.  Her and i talked in depth about the "grey" flooring (which I know now by heart, is grand junction aspen). She even pulled up recently installed pictures she had taken on her tablet of that specific color, to show me. And i even took a picture of the wood sample she had. She told me she could give me certain discounts if i signed a contract same day. So I told her i wanted the grey floors- she said no problem, put a bunch of stuff in the tablet- and had me initial and sign the contract. Fast forward to April 11th 2018. The installers came while I was at work and installed the floor. My mom and husband were home. They woke my husband up (he works nights and also was not with me when i picked the floor out) they asked him if the color was right - and he said - "looks good to me". they might as well asked the damn neighbor! I come home on lunch to find the workers 90% done installing the floor. IMMEDIATELY I said that the color didnt look right. The guy just kinda was like.."whatever" about it. I was a bit in shock wondering how that sample wood and the actual floor could look so different. He then told me about 2 transition pieces that were not present , because they didnt give him enough. My lunch was over and i needed to get back to work so he asked me to fill out the paperwork  (even though they were not finished) I initialed where he told me and i commented on the paper about the color seeming to be off and the fact that 2 transitions were missing. After seeing I put that on paper, he said- well let's look at the order. Says here alamosa. Is that the color you wanted?  I said, i dont know the name of it , i just asked for the grey floor. Let me pull up the picture I took on my phone. Then reality set in- the name by the grey was aspen, not alamosa! The installer called somwone on his phone. I'm assuming his boss- and told him he was 90 % done installing the floor and he was 90% sure it was the wrong color. I had to go back to work , and when i did i called customer sercice right away. They put a ticket in for me to the installation manager. I also texted my empire representative and told her that I the WRONG color was installed. She informed me that alamosa was the color on the order. So I said, don't you remember ? You were here and i specifically asked for the grey one! She told me she sells so many floors that she doesnt remember what we talked about, but it was probably her error. Then she asked me what I was being offered..... (wtf?)I was not able to connect with anyone regarding this until (4/13/18)  I spoke with david , a sales manager. He basically told me that since I signed the contract, and even though my rep said (via text) that she "probably made an error" but couldn't remember our interaction, and because the installers confirmed the color with my husband (WHO WASN'T EVEN THE DECISION MAKER) his hands were pretty tied and the best he could offer me would be to have ME pay an ADDITIONAL 900 dollars to have the right floor put in!!!!! And he made it clear that empire would not be making any money off that 900 dollars. Like i fricken care! I already financed THREE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED  dollars for this floor, that is the WRONG color. Since I was obviously not happy with what David told me, i asked that my information be sent to his boss. I've been in contact (barely because he doesn't respond to my emails) with ryan, the general manager for this region. He has been a nightmare. I mean, he is literally ignoring my emails, refuses to acknowledge my requests for his boss's information., and thinks he's cutting me a deal by taking the charge to put the right floor in down to $400. SERIOUSLY That's not even everything -  the installers left trash in my yard, screws and wood on my bathroom floor. They were short 2 transitions, and missed a section of cording, and left behind a dwalt toolbox...and my floor still isnt done. Still. I STILL have an unfinished, wrong colored floor in my house FOR 8 WEEKS NOW. I feel like this is a GIANT mistake.  There is definitely room for growth and education here, and possibly some process improvements. I'm glad these issues have presented themselves to help empire be a better company for the people- but this is not helping my situation at all. I just can not fathom david (sales manager)or ryan(general manager) or anyone else thinking that it should be MY BURDEN for the WRONG color being drawn up in the contract .  I tried to explain to him, since Cindy sells , in her words, "so many floors" I trusted that when i say "grey floor" she knows the correct name for it.  She could've entered "shit brown" as the name and I would have signed.. because I literally had just pointed at the floor I wanted. Im at a loss. I don't know what to do. I feel screwed over, i feel betrayed by the representative, and i feel that management has failed me over and over. read more

They refused to take the carpet even though I paid for haul away so I had to pay another company to pick it up. Customer service manager was insulting and demeaning toward women. Do not under any circumstance buy anything from this company. Came for install today of carpet and was told three things. One. Carpet roll too big to get into my basement. Two. There might be asbestos tile in the basement. Three the installers were not going to make any money on this job. Mind that the sales rep from the company was in my home twice in the basement and said everything was a go. Guess the rep does not know her job. Now have had to spend a vacation day for no work done and almost a full 2 hours on the phone arguing about getting my deposit back. On Friday Jan 8th we had laminate flooring installed. Missing trim by our door and our steps. We was informed that when they came in on Tuesday Jan 12th to install carpets that they would also finish the trim. Nope , they did NOT. Wednesday went by with no contact from empire & now here it is Thursday & still NOTHING & I can't get ahold of NO ONE! We paid EMPIRE 3 grand in cash for floors that aren't even done & I don't know if they will ever be done!!! Take my advice and stay far away from EMPIRE! The salesman that came was very professional but friendly, asked the right questions about what I expected and wanted and guided me from there. I am giving Empire today a 1 star rating. Their project execution, and their customer service are beyond poor. I wanted to have my basement with vinyl floor ($6,521). They were prompt to provide a quote. I signed my contract on 8/23, and as of 9/25 the project has not been completed. Poor installation, communication, materials shortages. I have called them daily starting on 9/11 inquiring the status, and estimated projected completion. Last conversations were with their customer service departments, first Sandy and then Michelle, in which Michelle got extremely rude, arguing, and raising their voice several times. Had a horrible experience. Took time off for the carpet to be done. They tore up the carpet on day 1. On day 2, no one showed up. They never returned my numerous calls. Switchboard kept saying someone would be out, and no one showed. They had subcontracted out the job without telling me. Subcontractor didn't show up either. Subcontractor called me in the evening saying he would come the next day if I would pay him cash. Had to get it done, and had to take an additional day off from work. Never got an apology, nothing. Within 6 months the carpet is unraveling. Was told by Empire that they couldn't replace it because they didn't install it. Their subcontractor did, which I had to resort to because they didn't show up in the first place. It was a horrible, expensive experience that I hope no one else falls for. In addition, now I have to replace the carpet again after only a year. read more

I am giving this company two stars because of the poor customer service. I had been shopping for carpet and had a pretty good idea how much it was going to cost. The estimate appointment was easily scheduled and the guy showed up on time and was very friendly. He asked me what kind of carpet I was looking for and he went out to his car to get those samples. His first estimate was extremely high and after a phone call, the price was in line with my other carpet estimates. The installation was scheduled for the following week. The installers came on time and installed the carpet. It wasn't until the next day I noticed there were several areas not attached to the tack strip. This is where my troubles began. I called the Grand Rapids office and they scheduled someone to come out to take care of the issue. After waiting all day, the person did not come. I called, scheduled again and the same thing happened, again. Stupid me, I scheduled a third appointment, and guess what? Another day wasted. I called and the woman was rude to me. I then called the national number and spoke with a VP named Ryan. I explained the issue. He promised to take care of the issue. He also said for my troubles he would send me a $50 gift card. Well, my carpet was fixed but I never saw the gift card. I am happy with the carpet. Just very unhappy with the days wasted waiting for it to be fixed. read more

They were pretty bad at our house too. We don't have the world's nicest house so I don't think they cared about quality. They used a trim piece as our main transition piece, put a ton of trim on haphazardly, didn't cut the floor to match my vents so there's a gap, and didn't secure my vents down. Their materials are awful quality, too. Our salesperson told us that the floors would scratch if a heavier person scraped a chair across the floor or water was left standing for a long time. Neither of those things have happened and the laminate is warped in places. The only reason I would have given them a star even if I didn't have to is because they sent the first contractor out with the wrong materials, the second didn't "realize" we needed a subfloor replaced even though it was squishy to walk on in places, and they gave me a couple hundred dollars off. I could call customer service and get it fixed but it would be a HUGE inconvenience to tear our house apart with the constant chaos of three animals and two kids walking around. I wish they'd just give us a refund and we could do the work ourselves. Oh, and the contractors, though they did an awful job, were very pleasant. read more

So they finally set a date of 9/20 they called at 9 am and said they wouldn't be out to install the floor until 5 p.m came out and looked around for a reason not to install the floor that night as I knew they would even though they promised to be there at 9. The Mexicans they sent lied time after time. Then they told me someone would have to come out and inspect the floor first even though they were already there. I don't care how much cheaper they are. In the long run it WILL cost you more. I used them for carpet and hard flooring and I wished I had not. Total job took over 3 months and the reviews about them tearing up your house is true. Gouged my walls and completely ruined my base moulding. Holes in the floor where they cut it to short and had them fix if I caught it. I had to fix some that they left. Ryan and Justin are very unprofessional and do not call you back. They are completely a waste of time. Half way into job they told me my corner round moulding we picked out was not an option. And wanted to put in something that didn't match my base moulding. We decided to use Empire Today and a large carpet and vinyl project for our home after checking out several other companies and we could not be happier. Our salesman Bill Gannon was professional and very helpful through the process. Everything that Bill promised came true during the install this week without any problems. The installion crews were incredible and treated our home with great care and took the time to make it perfect. When they came to do the installation they did not bring enough of the correct carpet and carpeted my closet in a different carpet used in another room. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR CARPETING!!!! I had carpeting installed in the beginning of December 2017, a month after installation a line down the middle of the living room started to show. It took weeks to get a service tech out. When he arrived he said he didn't see a problem, smoothed out the line with his hand and took a picture to give to his service manager. He also said that this was the way the layout techs planned the layout for the carpeting (I was never shown a layout, and would have never approved of this layout) Received and email from the service manager says that the "line" was perfectly acceptable, and that it was within the "industry standards". They refuse to fix the carpeting so I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, The Consumer Protection Agency, and with the credit card company I paid the bill with, also will be filing in small claims court. If that line is showing after 1 month, what do you think it will look like after 5 years.... read more

Had previously used Empire in our old house, and were very satisfied. That is why we used them again. The salesman arrived on a day we initially scheduled, but need to cancel and changed to another day. He showed up on the original day, said he was not informed of the change in appointment dates. He was very nice and we basically selected new flooring for our entire house, over $7,000 worth of flooring. He didn't have his computer or tablet to do the order and just wrote our order down on a pad of paper. There was a problem with the carpet delivery date, so things got pushed back a few days. No big deal. The laminate in the kitchen as installed, but they used an unpainted white, wide base board and not the quarter round in parts of the kitchen, which looked like crap. I wasn't home on install day, and my wife wasn't aware of the baseboard issue. I had a difficult time trying to get this problem corrected. The "nice" salesman began playing the "contract says" game. Well the contract didn't say anything specific, and after talking with the manager, the problem was corrected in a bout a week. But not after having to argue with the "nice" salesman over the phone several times and him continually talking about the contract....Overall, pretty good experience. The install crews we had were good, but we never received any information on how to care for our new laminate flooring. And we never received a follow up call from the "nice" salesman to see how we liked our purchase. I'll probably never have the need for new flooring in the future, but if I do, I think I'll shop around some! read more
