Terrible customer service and communication, we did not work with this company. I was looking at luxury vinyl planks for the entire lower level of our duplex down that flooded. We went with a local business that provided a quote almost a third of the price for the same product and that returns calls. I felt pressured into an immediate sale during our in-home estimate, after I said that "I had to think about such a large purchase" we never heard from that sales person again even after leaving messages. I asked for a written quote for insurance which they refused to supply. Do NOT trust Empire Today for flooring in your house. They do NOT guarantee or stand by their products and do NOT provide the products that you request. We have 2 kids, a cat who has health issues and wanted to get a dog. I also have anxiety and need my floors to be clean and stain-free. The salesperson KNEW all this and understood why we were ripping out carpet and installing floors. He assured me that the engineered hardwood would be durable for all of us. Installation took 2.5 extra days. I wasn't really upset with this at the time. The anger began on the day they left. THAT EVENING I dropped a spoon on the floor. A NORMAL SPOON. It left a huge dent in our dining area. I cried for about an hour. Fast forward to today... There are at least 70 dents and 10 legitimate scratches in the flooring. One of the boards are cracked in half. A few other are peeling at the edges. I contacted the #betterbusinessbureau for assistance. I requested for either a replacement of the flooring with the durable option that we originally requested OR a refund so I could have another company come out with the product and service that we need. I cannot live like this anymore. My kids cannot play in our upper level and I am sick of the stress. All we see are damaged floors that cost thousands of dollars. #empiretoday offered to fix the damaged flooring and cracked board and CHARGE ME almost 600 dollars. for the materials. Seriously. This would entail pulling up most of the boards in the living space. Why not just install a better product that will not be damaged again that very evening? Empire is a joke!First my sales person was very rude and unprofessional! Their prices are outrageous! I finally negotiated the price down. Day of installation. Installer arrived with the wrong flooring! Which the psychopath sales person put in the wrong material for the floor! The installers arrived hours late and did not have enough carpet. No one answered the phone at the office. We rescheduled for two days later, and no one ever showed up or contacted us. No answer at the office the second time, either. We will be trying to get our deposit back. Now we have paid to move a piano, and we have put in hours of work clearing the area, to no avail. I have experienced 3 no shows (with no calls), tons of bad quality work and 10 weeks later, I still can't get anyone to finish the job they left incomplete without breaking parts they don't have replacements for. I've had over a dozen calls to the company with no one able to do anything but send issues to someone else. The company uses sub-contractors, so the quality of the work and your experience will be all over the place. The company will rely on a subcontractor to "fix" their problems, but you will be left with incomplete work. To speak of quality issues, this is knife marks on floor, bad subfloor work, incomplete quarter round work, cement piles left in the driveway, bad door trimming. You will have to have complete oversight over the contractor as they will try to get by with nails sticking out, broken parts and poor work. read more

The Empire Today salesperson sold me on the laminate floor installation. He told me that it would take no more than two days to complete and that Empire Today could start immediately. I had other offers, but they took longer. Therefore, I decided to go with them based on that fact. I signed the contract and paid the installation fees in full, as required by Empire Today. I followed the contract to the T. I completely fulfilled my customer obligation. Two days passed, and halfway through the installation, the installer called me to let me know that he couldn't locate the materials and he is giving it up. That left me, the customer, to contact Empire Today several times to track down the materials, only to be told that it was out of stock. Here is a list of things that went wrong: 1. I was lied to, false advertisement to consumers, and fraud by Empire Today about the length of installation time. Had I been told that the materials were unavailable, I would have picked another company. This is a malicious, deceptive, and intentional criminal act by Empire Today to lure customers into hiring them. Once they have my money, they could care less about the completion time. 2. I had to take on beyond the responsibilities of a reasonable customer duty to make calls after calls to Empires Today customer service to track down the materials for the stairs. Empires Today never took the initiative to contact me. These responsibilities were nowhere specified in the contract. If it did, no one would hire Empires Today. This is another example of fraud and deception to customers. 3. My place is a business place; I pay taxes, utilities, and wages. Again, I can't rent or show it to any renters. Please avoid this business, horrible service. Gave me a price quote for some flooring, once they came to my house to do the work. I was then informed they couldn't do the laminate flooring on my staircase. I settle for carpet on the staircase instead, which cost less money. Empire then advise me that they could do flooring in my two upstairs bathrooms for the amount of money they charge me to do the laminate flooring on my staircase. I agreed. The flooring in my bathroom was never complete and empire tried to tell me I owed them 600 dollars. I told the sales supervisor that the bathroom flooring was never completed... they still insisted I owe them money and threaten to send my account to a collections agency. It took two months to get my situation handled and the money Empire owed me was returned. I'll never do business with Empire carpet again. read more

The pushiest most uncomfortable salesman I ever experienced. He was at our house for almost THREE HOURS! 15 minutes was spent discussing flooring options...the rest was him trying to pressure me into signing a contract and waiting for the Empire quoting tool to work on his discount bin laptop. He claimed that some orders are canceled after they have already been put on the loading dock...and in order to get them off the loading dock, empire offered big discounts. Problem with this story is that he was promising us this discounted price without ever calling anyone to confirm whether any of the floors we were considering were actually "on the dock." Also, apparently we could only get the "on the dock" price if we signed a contract on the spot... somehow he could foresee cancelled orders and there would never be anymore after he left our house... what a load of bull****. Oh but not done yet, while he was waiting on the quoting tool to work, he tried to convince me that climate change is a hoax because the weatherman is not reliable. OMG never again. read more

We were lucky to get Ed Glover to come and he gave excellent customer service! He was able to get every discount we were eligible for ( it was a lot). In my previous review--which I would encourage you to read--I described how Empire failed to show for three scheduled appointments. They have now failed to show up for four appointments. I honestly have no words. I can't even confirm that they are a legitimate business. I can't confirm that they do floors. I can't confirm anything other than their phone works, they can take a reservation, but maybe don't have anyone actually working for them. They've literally never kept a reservation with me. They have dishonest salespeople, they completely ripped off my elderly parents. They promised to rip off the floor and install vinyl plank and they did not do that. The tile looks cheap and it cost my parents nearly 5000 bucks, I was appalled when I saw what they did to them. They never provided a written contract so they were able to get away with highway robbery. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and they called back and only offer a little over 180 bucks to make good on their shady deal. They are complete con artists. Warning - this is long. TL;DR version at the bottom, but the full details are important. It has now been 2 months since our whole house install and I have been trying without success to get an Empire customer service rep on the phone to discuss. We chose Empire to do both carpeting and vinyl flooring in our 2500+ square foot farmhouse. The 2 installations were scheduled for within 3 days of each other... 1. Our LVP install team came first on a Saturday and absolutely did their best with the situation they were dealt. Manny and his crew were hardworking, respectful, and committed to getting the job done. 2. The LVP crew was not told to bring plywood/luan to glue the product to. We had absolutely invited the salesman to lift up some of our old carpeting to see what they would be dealing with, because an old farmhouse will definitely have surprises. He declined, we get to install day, and the crew needs another surprise $1125 to go to Home Depot to get the plywood they need. 3. We were also told at the sales appointment that it would be no problem for the installers to level out the floor in one of the rooms. Install team looked at that floor, looked at my husband and they had a long conference about who had what kind of carpentry skills. Again, we were assured this would not be a problem... yet, my husband ended up tearing up that section of the floor and rebuilding it to level while the crew was out getting their plywood. It is fortunate that he had the skills, knowledge, time, and tools to do this on the spot. The whole thing would have ground to a halt otherwise (meaning we would have had to reschedule the carpeting installation on Monday). 4. It didn't seem that the installers were aware that they'd be creating some transitions from LVP to carpeted areas and didnt have any reducers on their truck. Again, my husband had to run to a couple different stores before finding an acceptable product at Menards. So then we were out another $50 for the day (plus his time) and it wasn't even the correct length we needed, so the installers had to piece two together. 5. Because of all the set backs, the installers were at our house until 1:30 in the morning. These poor guys had to drive 3 hours to get here put in 15 hour day, and then had a 3 hour drive back! Because of that, we knew they were getting rushed toward the end. We tried to keep their morale up with snacks and drinks, but it's a long physical day no matter what. By the end, there were a couple of doors that they didn't rehang (because they needed to be cut down at the bottom and my husband said he'd take care of that for them). 6. There are also 2 sections of floor that don't seem to have set properly... the "planks" are coming up and need to be addressed. 7. THEN it was carpeting day. When we scheduled the install, it was a 2 day job. As such, we prepped the upstairs rooms for the first day and did no prep downstairs. Jorge and his team announced they were doing the whole house in one day. 8. Again with the assistance of my husband, they moved furniture, knick-knacks, books, clothes, everything that was in their way. Somehow they tore out and recarpeted 9 decent sized rooms plus stairs and hallway in just over 12 hours, with moving a lot of possessions (and only suffering one minor piece of damage). 9. But again, the crew was rushing to get the work done and forgot to reinstall some closet door floor guides, which my husband is still reluctant to put I'm because he doesn't want to incur the liability if he snags or tears the brand new carpet doing their job. 10. Again, kudos to Jorge and his hardworking crew! Those guys wouldn't even take a break... we sent them on their way with sub sandwiches for the drive. Overall, a very disappointing experience in terms of sales setting expectations for the install teams, in terms of setting expectations for us (we were never apprised that there might be additional expenses... we were assured that the price we negotiated was "all in"). The sales process had really set us up for some high expectations that weren't met. Jack was a nice guy who came to our house on time, developed a rapport with us and made us comfortable with him. We were sincere when we told him that it was our intention to buy from him that night. The price that we were able to get from Jack was stretching the upper limits of our budget, but he assured us that was the only money we would have to pay (as proven wrong by the extra $1175 we shelled out on installation day). TL;DR: poor expectations set by sales and scheduling leading to overworked, rushed installers who didnt pay close attention to detail and quality. My husband ended up working alongside both crews, and we ended up spending more money than budgeted. Customer service is having a hard time connecting with me to rectify anything, even when I give an exact time to call. read more

On December 4, a sales representative from Empire Today came out to give us a quote on replacing our carpet with laminate flooring. We were weary of starting this project close to the holidays, but we were told it would be a one-day completion and guaranteed complete before Christmas. On the 15th, the installers showed up 4 hours late and made us pay 100% upfront before they would even unload any materials from the van, which is in violation of our contract, which states that the work would be "substantially complete" before we would pay the remaining balance and that we would owe no more than 30% upfront. That day, they only finished about half of the "work," saying they miscalculated the materials needed by 8 full boxes and would be back the next day to complete it. Meanwhile, they had torn up all the carpet on our staircase, leaving exposed plywood and sharp nails sticking out of the floor, on which we stepped and injured ourselves, after being told it was "clean and safe to walk on." The next day, they never showed up and postponed for another week. The following week, they were late yet again, and when they did come, they put down half of the flooring on our staircase and left the entire second staircase unfinished yet again! They said they miscalculated again by 6 more boxes and would be back the next day to fulfill the guarantee that it would be finished before Christmas. We took off work to be home for them, and when half the day went by and no one showed up, we tried contacting the closest branch to us, and they said they would not be coming. They just no-called, no-showed with no notice, so we missed more work for nothing. We were told a "glitch in their system" cancelled the job by accident and that they would return Christmas Eve to finish. Christmas Eve went by and, YET AGAIN, no one showed up, and they postponed for another week. We ended up having to cancel our Christmas plans because it was unsafe for children (or anyone) to be walking on the unfinished flooring with exposed nails. We respectfully asked that they send a different installer to complete the work, as it was not done professionally at all, and the installers urinated all over our bathroom toilet seats and did not flush the toilets - so disrespectful and disgusting! We were guaranteed by email that a new crew would be sent out and that they would send an "inspector" to look at the work, but the same people showed up again, failed to provide credentials when asked, and there was no inspector. We only agreed to let them continue because we were so far along at that point and couldn't just leave plywood and sharp nails down to walk on and needed something while we waited to have it done correctly. When they said the work was "complete," we were appalled at what we found. There were nail holes sticking out all throughout the house where the quarter round was installed; the nose pieces on the stairs were installed incorrectly and are, to this day, wobbling back and forth and unsafe; they installed damaged products (we found several chipped pieces of the new flooring upon installation); they damaged our preexisting tile flooring, trim, staircase, walls, and furniture; they were completely careless and slid heavy furniture across the floor and dropped a 700 pound treadmill onto the floor (we provided sliders to put beneath the furniture and requested they use them, but they did not); the "click-lock mechanism" was installed incorrectly, so there are gaps between the planks, exposing the preexisting wood beneath the new flooring; they inappropriately placed caulk into the large holes they created in our staircase, which look absolutely horrendous and unprofessional; they removed and threw away our door stoppers, so I had to buy new ones, etc. The manager at the local location told us that we needed to get "two quotes" from contractors stating the cost of damages so that we could be reimbursed. When I told him we were getting those, he changed his story and now wants 3 quotes. We have tried over and over to contact customer service, but no one ever returns our calls to resolve the issue. All we wanted and asked for was top quality, durable, waterproof flooring, but we got a cheap product that was already damaged upon installation, and they did not install it properly. We paid $13,000 for this garbage, and the manager said he would give us "$350 for the inconvenience." What a joke! We are pursuing this legally, as they falsely advertised their product, breached the contract by making us pay 100% upfront, installed the product incorrectly, were unreliable throughout, caused us to miss work and injure ourselves due to carelessness, stole some of our belongings, failed to provide credentials when asked, and overall did a horrific job. This is the worst company and "customer service" I have ever experienced, and they should not be in business. I am selling a condo that I've been renting out and I needed to recarpet the bedrooms. I've had a good experience with Home Depot in the past but they couldn't come out to measure for a week and installation would likely be 7-10 days after measurements and I simply can't wait that long. With that being said, Home Depot gave me a good idea of what I should expect to pay for carpeting. So, since I'm short on time, I scheduled both Empire and Luna to come out to my condo at the exact same time so that they could literally compete head to head for my business. They both quoted me for tear out and removal of the old carpet, installation, padding, and identical carpet options. Somehow Empire would have cost twice as much as Luna. There was absolutely no competition here - I politely asked the Empire person to leave while I placed the order with Luna. Empire tries to dazzle you with the "real price" and then they give you a "special price" that's only good if you sign on the spot. The whole process seemed very "used carsalesman-esque" and sleazy to me. Luna didn't do any of that - they just measured and gave me a price that was within fifty dollars of the Home Depot price. I was only having two 11x14 bedrooms carpeted and somehow, Empire's price was higher than what my dad paid to do two sets of stairs, a hallway, a living room, and a dining room (which is way bigger than 308 ft2). I'm giving two stars because the salesperson showed up on time and was polite, but you can't dispute the fact that they were trying to rip me off. I am warning all to stay away from this terrible company. They take advantage of seniors. My 90-year old mother wanted a floor put down in her very small laundry area. She lives in a condo building with an elevator. A "very nice" gentleman came to do an estimate for her. When the installer arrived to put the floor in, he brought all of his supplies into her unit, got everything set up, and then told her that Empire needed to speak with her on the phone because there would be some additional charges. She called Empire and they told her they would be charging her an additional $400 because the installer had to use an elevator to get to her second floor condo. Now, the "very nice" gentleman who did an estimate for her did not include any charges for using the elevator and he did know about the elevator because he had to use it to get to her unit. An extra charge to use the elevator?? Then how about he uses the stairs?! My mother complained about the extra $400 charge so they oh so graciously agreed to make it $200. Thanks Empire, so nice taking advantage of a sweet, little old lady. She should have thrown the installer out right then with all of his stuff. Never again. Watch out for this company. The entire sales process was insulting. A saleswomen came to our home and quoted flooring for our kitchen and family room at an extremely high price! It was like buying a used car. Terrible! The first crew they sent, barely spoke English and could NOT or would not do the job. The saleswomen didn't document the details of the job properly and the crew left. We were furious because we took the time off work to oversee the installation. Next crew came 2 days later and flew through the Pergo installation, and it showed. One crew member stayed till after 8pm and was extremely unprofessional. They damaged our refrigerator; we had 5 boxes of materials left over?; the molding was not done properly and after many, many phone calls, our concern have not been addressed. They did come back and fix the many molding issues, but we haven't heard back from a manager who was supposed to call regarding the damages to our refrigerator and walls. It has been the worst experience my husband and I have ever had. I will NEVER use or recommend this company to anyone. Have told several friends and family members never to use this company!!! How can this company stay in business? They use non-employee contractors and use this as an excuse for very shotty workmanship. I would NOT recommend this organization anyone plus the own Luna and will NEVER use them either. The entire process was extremely disappointing and stressful. As soon as they left, it was noticeable that there was a visible seam right in the middle of the living room. They came out four times to "fix" the same issue. These attempts were unsuccessful. Well after contacting customer service and having another installation person come out, still not fixed and now we were told the flooring should never have been installed in the first place. Well even after that Empire still insist that the delay in installation is our dogs. Now here is even a bigger lie from them: they came back and said that they couldn't do the install because of our dogs and the house wasn't clean? They even went as far to say we had dog waste on the floor!!!?!!?! We have the dogs trained and there is no dog or other feces for that matter on any of our floors!! They have done nothing but be dishonest and lie about what they should of fixed long ago. At this point they even said we needed to pay more for any kind of different flooring even though we were told by them what was needed and the sales person knew exactly how our home was. We are far from perfect but I absolutely will not tolerate being lied to and told I live in filthy conditions which I do not. The empire rep calls me Friday to confirm our appointment for Saturday which was great. THEN, within a few hours, the Luna rep calls my husband and tells him that he can see in his system that we have another appointment with Empire and that Empire and Luna are now one and to cancel our other appointment, otherwise we will not get $250 off our quote. My husband, not having any idea what was happening, called Empire and cancelled our appointment for Saturday. The 800 number is a joke, no one answers and when they do, they don't return any calls. I had laminate installed and set up for June 14th and 15th. Still not done, installer gave me a line of bull trying to stall and said I need new water shut off valves and my toilet was leaking. Both were BS and were fine he just didn't want to finish the job. Slower than a turtle. The installer took 6.5 hours to do half the job and the job he did was CRAPPY and SLOPPY! Looks like a 2nd grader put caulk in. Quarter rounds are loose, transitions are bent, gaps in between new floor and old (they didn't remove like they were supposed to), just a really horrible job. All of this and no one will return a call to make it right. Logged a complaint with BBB and listed a horrible review to match the horrible work I received. We had flooring installed in December 2017 and it looked awesome, in March after we moved some rugs my wife noticed spots where the floor wasn't right and after several calls and promised call backs that didn't happen they came out and replaced the bad spots. Fast forward to July and I moved the rug by our front door and 1 board was up- again after several calls and them promising to call back I finally got service to come out in September. The service guy states- this is water damage from the material as you can tell by the board. We had moved our refrigerator out to paint and asked him about the marks on our floor also. He said the refrigerator is heavy and we need to move it on a dolly so it doesn't mark the floor which most likely will cost us to replace. He will put them both in stating the 1 board pictured is covered but he doesn't believe the other will be. Well now we go to October and they still haven't called back so I finally get someone and they state all damages are my responsibility and it will cost me $500 to replace everything. I stated what the service rep said and they said isn't it obvious that the water was from us- I said look at the picture and how if it was us could it be 1 board only? They said if we want work done it will cost us almost $500 and it is not there responsibility. Never use these guys. They are looking to prey on people who don't know what a good price is. They sent someone out to measure my place for vinyl plank flooring in my living room and master br. The guy gave me a quote over $19,000k(!!!!). I told him that was insane because my downstairs neighbor with the same unit just got his done for about $7k. They gave me the "Let me call my Manager and see if we can give you a better price" story. He talked to his manager and then said that they could do it for about $7500 but only if I signed a contract that day and set my install date. I told him to leave. I realize there's wiggle room on price, but you should never quote more than double what you're willing to do it for. read more

These guys lost one star for being three minutes late but then lost two-hundred and forty million more stars for being a crooked, shady, salesy crap show. The price is 22,000 dollars! But wait! If you act now.... Me- The guy said you could do next day service. Sales rep- Yeah, they always say that, we can't. Me- I thought it was 75% off? Like your website says. Sales rep- But that's only with some products and believe me, you don't want those. It was a horrible experience and within an hour after they left I found someone on Yelp with 4.5 stars (twice the positivity) and half the price (the real price, not the "let me talk to my manager price". I had Empire install carpet in two rooms when my husband and I moved into our home. I was stupid and impatient and just chose them because they were next day installation. Today, I'm having a very reputable family-owned local carpet store redo the rooms Empire did as the carpet didn't last but a few years. Low and behold, when the Empire carpet was taken up, there was a patchwork quilt of different pads the Empire carpet installers laid down (see photo). Unbelievable! This is the type of shoddy work you get when you make a rash decision and go with an over-commercialized carpet company. I would never use them again and would never recommend them to anyone.
