    So many empanadas
    Vicky L.

The empanadas here are legit!! My favorites and thoughts below: Empanadas de Trigo - (whole flour pattie) - Venezolana: shredded beef, plantains, black beans - Habanera: roasted pork, ham, cheese - Polla caliente: hot chicken Sweet Empanadas - - Hawaiian: pineapple, ham, cheese, dusted with powdered sugar Also tried the roasted pork and cheese Cachapa - it's like a gyro, only the pita is replaced by this delicious thick corn pancake. It's yummy, but filling. I would definitely share this if you also want to eat some empanadas. Beef Arepa was okay. Not my favorite, but it was definitely tasty and meaty. I just think I should have ordered one with cheese and maybe the taste of Arepa as the vehicle for my food is not my favorite.

Great variety of tasty empanadas! Some of the flavors I've gotten were american breakfast, taco, habanera, cheese, margarita, & apple with cinnamon. The chicha de arroz is amazing!

Soooooo service is trash...their servers are not very attentive nor do they acknowledge their customers in what most would deem a reasonable amount of time. If you are not a Spanish speaker there is little to no interaction. The language barrier presents a slight issue with ordering but not an insurmountable one. We had to ask for a receipt with a total price printed on it. I know what you're thinking that should be standard, but nope not here you have to be extremely specific. Imagine wanting a piece of paper with a full price for your records and having to coach the employee on that... the server also stopped in the middle of our order to bag an order that had been ordered previously without an excuse me or any other verbal cue that she would be pausing our interaction. Cash only! Service aside, the place isn't half bad. I don't think I would eat inside just due to poor service (it's not currently available due to Covid), the empanadas are fresh and delicious. You really can't find a fresher example of empanadas in New Jersey. If you can deal with the bad service then you'll have a flavor experience that is amazing and will leave you coming back for more. I took the advice of other yelpers and ordered the empanada with the Venezolana it did not disappoint. The empanada dough is light, well seasoned and cooked well. The filling is an amazing mix. I too recommend this flavor. We also grabbed the dulce de leche empanada. You can't really mess that up...they delivered in the fresh caramel department. I'd come back but definitely exercise the option to order over the phone ahead and pick it up and go enjoy my haul in the car. Food rating: 4 Service: 1.5 Atmosphere: 2

    Look at all that cheese

My search for gluten free empanadas has finally paid off. They have many flavors of corn empanadas to pick! I will try all of them in time. I tried the cheese and chicken. The cheese - perfect dough, not too thick and not too thin, right amount to hold an insane amount of cheese, call me crazy but almost too much cheese. Chicken - again the dough was perfect, soft and chewy inside and flaky on the outside, the chicken was succulent and flavorful. My favorite out of the two. They can be accompanied by two different types of sauce, green or hot. The green sauce - not spicy, flavorful and herby The hot sauce - Frank's on crack, garlicky and the right amount of spice.

My favorite was habanera, but all the ones i got were delicious, will definitely be trying more out. The size and price were perfect, they make them fresh when you order, and there was barely any waiting. Very recommended!

Guayaba con Queso Empanada Dulce (guava & cheese - yum!)

I just had empanadas from Empanadas X-press and had to write this review instantly. I got a craving for Guayaba con Queso (guava and cheese) empanadas this morning and looked for a new place to try. My order (placed through Uber Eats) was delivered in under 30 min. All the empanadas were warm and crispy - absolutely delicious! Btw I love how they put labels on each package. So you don't have to wonder which empanada contains what... Here's what I got: - Jamón y Queso Empanada de Trigo - flour patty with ham and cheese, it was really good and paired nicely with the pink sauce they sent. - Queso Empanada de Trigo - flour patty with cheese, filled up with a whole lot of cheese - Guayaba con Queso Empanada Dulce - the guava & cheese, my absolute favorite. (I ate 3 of them. Don't tell anyone.) I'm definitely a fan and going back for more soon.

    Burnt Cachapa de Queso

Speed of service was excellent, but the food wasn't. My empanadas did not taste good like the other reviewers were stating. The filling was really skimp and the quality of ingredients were poor. You can tell because the cheese was still in its string form and not melted. It also has a sour taste to it. Reminds me of those cheese sold at supermarkets for under 1 dollar. I ordered a chachapa as well and it was burnt to the max and the middle filling was still cold. Overall poor experience and would not recommend.

Well, now. Finding truly authentic Venezuelan cuisine wasn't on my 2026 bingo card (as the cool…read morekids say), but I'm definitely stamping this square. Dios mio, what a meal! There was not a bad bite to be had. We might've cut the roofs of our mouths with the crisped-to-perfection Patacón, but I don't care--I think all sandwiches should be encased in fried plantain instead of bread. And the succulent pernil filling? Dios mio otra vez! Though, tbf, when is pernil ever a bad choice? Then there was the stuffed-to-the-brim Cachapa filled with carne mechada and Venezuelan cheese. It was enormous. Like, Jesus pulling from the neverending fish basket enormous. It never ended. We had to take it home. But before we did, I practically ate all of the arepa, which was the sweetest, bursting-with-corn-flavor arepa I've ever had outside of South America. It was so good, I practically cried with every bite. Tears of corny joy, mind you. We got an entree of grilled fish (Filete de Pescado a la Plancha), which came with a complimentary side--in our case, arroz amarillo cuz I gotta have my grains. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, meltingly tender on the inside. As with everything else, it was also way bigger than it had any right to be. Finally, we ended with what we THOUGHT would be a small item--the Arepa Arcoiris Llanero--but we were mistaken. It was stuffed so full of fresh avocado, shredded chicken, and various veggies that it had to be further encased in a paper wrapper for fear of the arepa wrap giving up on its job. We didn't make it more than a few bites before having to regretfully pack it home, but those few bites were chef's kiss. Venezuela has long been on my bucket list (who doesn't want to see Mount Roraima or Angel Falls?), but until I can get there, I'll be more than happy to "settle" for coming to this beautifully modern paradise of culinary delights. Throw in the huge portions and unbelievably low prices, and it's kind of a no-brainer to make the trip.

The service wasn't too bad, my cup ran empty every now and then but wasn't egregious. Let's talk presentation, the way drinks and food come out is clearly something the head of Maracaibo wanted to place extra detail on. Though the extra presentation is a bit gimmicky, it still got the job done for the most part. The sampler came in a giant Ferris wheel contraption. Not pictured, but my cocktail came with floating cotton candy. Nevertheless, the food was still incredible. The sampler is a must, not only for the presentation, but for the delicious eats that can push you out of your comfort zone. For first time Venezuelan eaters the amount of ways plantain could be prepped and served may be jarring, but I would encourage bravery and just try everything and anything you can on the sampler. Each bite was worth it! Let's talk main entrees, you won't be disappointed by the portions. If you enjoy plantain, definitely go for the patacon - if not, I'd suggest holding off as you may get your fill of it elsewhere. The skirt steak (churrasco) was cooked to my liking, went well in my patacon sandwich. It is massive, I couldn't eat it all - had to take some back. Onto the arepa bowl. Though the contents of the bowl instead could be something you may get elsewhere (like Chipotle for example), it's the addition of the arepa bowl blended with the flavors of everything else and the sauces they drizzle on top that completes this dish. It's unique and it screams for you to taste and pay attention. Overall - great foods, great ambiance, great people. Bit gimmicky but it is what it is.

The second time around, I ordered it sans protein and it was lovely, flaky, and beautiful with the cheese and sauce me. The Pan Jamón, bread itself was a good texture but I felt the olive and raisins weren't in harmony with the piece. The pistachio croissant was a bit over the top.
