I've been here many times for empanadas and the menu has grown so much over the years and so have their empanadas. These empanadas have a great chewy texture in addition to the crunch that is flaky and really yummy. overtime, they've gotten smaller (which is understandable) but the recipe for the bulgogi is different too based on my and other's experiences. They are $4.75 and about 4 inches wide. I usually get 3 to share which is good for a small meal/appetizer for me. We mix and match with food from sweet octopus downstairs often! My usual go tos are the pulled pork and the bulgogi one. I noticed the bulgogi one tasted differently this time, more minced and in a sweet sauce. I preferred the texture and taste of it before better because it tasted more like bulgogi texture and taste wise but now I can't tell it's bulgogi. If you like sweet flavors, that one may be a good fit for you. The traditional beef is more balanced in comparison with boiled eggs and olives inside- unique and tasty. the pulled pork comes with a delish guava sauce that we really like! Love that there's a lot of seating upstairs where the empanada house is located and lots of bubble tea and acai bowls. Food comes out relatively quickly within 10 minutes! I've always had good customer service too.
The bubble tea at this place was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. The ambiance was enhanced by the lovely music playing in the background. I ordered a 24 oz. Thai tea with coffee jelly and it was amazing. My only criticism would be that the coffee jelly could have had a stronger flavor, and I wish there was less ice as I felt like I only got a few sips before it was finished.
Right above Sweet Octopus, have to go inside and up the stairs! The upstairs seating and balcony is always quiet and has a really nice view of the town center. They serve different empanadas, boba, smoothies and milkshakes upstairs. I ordered the impossible empanada which was $5 and this is what it came out looking like. It was much smaller than what I thought and was just really underwhelming. There was no sort of seasoning or really any flavor from the empanada at all, it was just the typical impossible burger flavor put inside of the flaky empanada dough. Would not recommend getting this particular empanada, maybe the other types are better! Everyone working there were super friendly and the vibes were just chill.
We've come to Sweet Octopus for Poke Bowls & Sushi Burritos & they've been delicious. Today we tried the empanada restaurant located upstairs. They just remodeled. The place looks fresh & has comfortable seating inside & outside. The register/ server was pleasant to talk to & gave us her recommendations of the most popular empanadas. We opted to sit outside since the weather was beautiful. The food was ordered at the register & brought to our table. FOOD: We ordered the Traditional Beef & Bulgogi empanadas with a passion fruit mango sakirita slushie to share between 2 people. Everything was fresh & delicious. I preferred the Bulgagi flavor which was an Asian bbq flavor. The server was kind & we enjoyed people watching from the top deck while eating our meal. The Sakirita was strong Lol get ready to get loose if you don't share they're $9. Glad we finally tried this spot. Definitely will be back.
First time coming to Duluth downtown during daytime. I'm here on a nice Sunday noonish, parked at the public parking lot for free there are also parking spots nearby the restaurants for free as well, but we wanted to take a walk and enjoy the nice fall weather. This area is fun for snack/quick bites and drinks/bubble tea while sunbathing or simply people watching or watching leaves falling. The price is decent, similar to typical bubble tea/bakery place. Had the bulgogi and Bacon Egg &cheese empanadas with mango bubble tea with matcha crystal bubbles. Everything tasted great IMO, really enjoyed it. Great service & clean as well. Would definitely coming back again!
Took me a little bit to find this place, but it's located in Sweet Octopus. There is plenty of outdoor seating if you're not comfortable with indoor dining quite yet. My boyfriend and I got the pulled pork, bulgogi, and fig & mascarpone empanadas. They have a good variety of savory and sweet empanadas. The portion size is also generous (we were stuffed after eating three). Unlike some of the other empanadas I've had before, the encasing used for the empanadas are more pastry like, which makes them a little more buttery. We really enjoyed them and would definitely come back for more!
I was in town for a conference and ordered Door Dash. My food came really quick and was still warm. I, however, could not finish my food. I ordered the Hawaiian and the bulgogi. Both were so bad. The bulgogi was too sweet, and the Hawaiian the flavors just did not mesh. Unfortunately I had to spend money and buy more food.
First time at this spot and the food was AMAZING. The bulgogi empanada was my favorite. They offer a couple of sauces that complement these so well. I definitely recommend their smoothies as well they're delicious. It's a nice comfortable atmosphere with a small patio for seating! Food was so yummy I'll be back for more!
Consistently, fresh and flavorful. Empanadas stuffed with delicious ingredients. I appreciate the friendliness and warmth of the owners how they take pride in their restaurant and their food. It is so good that nowadays every time I ask my kids what they want as a treat they ask for the Empanada House!
5/5 recommend - best empanadas I've ever had. The empanadas are light and flaky, but not at all flimsy. They're stuffed with fillings and super affordable. The flavors are great! I had the Hawaiian (pineapple, ham and cheese) and the guava and cheese. Service is great. The guys who took our order brought our food downstairs to us when we told him we also ordered from sweet octopus (the restaurant on the lower level). Drinks are refreshing and customizable. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the churros, they seemed to be fried a tad too long for my liking but the flavor was still superb and I would definitely order again!
Located in downtown Duluth., of the upstairs level of Sweet Octopus. Nice chill vibe, perfect for hanging out with friends and family. Has a little outdoor patio that over look shops nearby. I wasn't too satisfied with the fruit bar., maybe I had different expectations of it. But it' was like trying to chew on a flavor ice cube stick. The other items we ordered were good tho. Def a spot to check out. Recommend, and Will come back.
We discovered this place by accident while contemplating waiting in line for another restaurant in the town center. It's on the second floor inside Sweet Octopus. We ordered one cheese, one BE&C, and one pork empanada along with taro milk tea with tapioca. Everything was delicious! The dough for the empanadas was perfect I wish I could get the recipe to make at home honestly. My personal favorite was the pork because it came with guava BBQ sauce! the milk tea wasn't overly sweet which I loved. The staff was friendly and the food was prepared in a timely manner. I even order extra to take home after. I will definitely be returning!
Right above Sweet Octopus, Empanada House surprised me with their menu. I suppose it shouldn't have because we're in Duluth, but they sell bubble tea here. I was curious about their tea, but there was a winter combo at the time that caught my eye more. I got their hot chocolate, traditional beef empanada, and bulgogi BBQ empanada. It was my first time having such a flaky empanada. The dough is nice and tasted good, I like that it's baked instead of fried, which I'm more used to. Out of both the empanadas I got, I would recommend the traditional beef because of the unexpected raisins that worked pretty well with the beef filling. The bulgogi was alright. The meat itself was a bit dry but the BBQ sauce helped with that. The hot chocolate was milky and great for the cold weather. Next to ordering, there's a fridge for bottled drinks and chilled empanadas. At the time, they only had beef and bulgogi, but I think it's cool that you can bake them at home at a later time. Since Sweet Octopus and Empanada House are in the same building, they seem to share seating space and the bathroom, which is on the lower floor. Food comes out fast and makes for a nice quick bite. There's one empanada that's for vegetarians, though I'm not sure if they don't use eggs for the dough, so vegans should check on that. Sweet empanadas sound good, and if I were to come again, I'd prob get one to try. read more
While my friend was ordering food at Sweet Octopus, I went upstairs to get some empanadas because that's what I was craving and had seen many good reviews about this place's. I ordered the goulash and traditional beef which came up to be around $10, and didn't take too long for it to be prepared. I brought my food downstairs, and there's plenty of tables to sit both upstairs and down. The flavor was flavoring!!!!! It was hot, fresh, and perfectly paired with the salsa they gave me!! I highly recommend if you're craving empanadas, but if not they also have other menu items like drinks and smoothie bowls. If you don't want those, Sweet Octopus is downstairs with their menu items! read more

I have been here twice recently with a friend and I love it. The people who work here are friendly, and the upstairs area has always been clean and spacious. Sweet Octopus can get a bit loud, I like that the upstairs area is more chill. The empanadas we ordered were good! I liked the Hawaiian one the most. I ordered the beef and the Hawaiian, and my friend ordered the chicken and the guava. My friend and I agreed that we weren't that big of a fan the seasoning used in the chicken and beef empanadas but they were still high quality. The empanada itself is great, the outside is warm and flaky. The sauces that came with the meal were good. We also both really enjoyed the bubble tea. We will definitely be back! read more

We tried the cheese and guava and cheese empanadas and they were delicious! I wish I lived closer so I could try the other ones. My child also tried a snow cone but said she would get it again without the condensed milk. They were so nice and gave her additional syrup to mask the milk flavor. read more

Went on a Sunday night. Not too busy, staff was nice friendly and are bilingual as well. I ordered the Açaí bowl and while the açaí was still thawing, everything else was perfect. Empanadas were quite delicious that it's hard to just be content with one. While the prices are a bit on the higher end, I would return back as food was quick and easy to get and the view of Duluth town green from the second floor is perfect. read more

Today was my first time trying Empanada House, and it didn't disappoint! The guy taking my order was pleasant. I had the pork with guava bbq and the ham/cheese/pineapple empanadas. Each was delicious with the pork very tender and the crust on both very tasty! Food was made fresh and only took 5-7 minutes to come out. I'll be back to try others. The only part I wish was more convenient is the parking! read more

I love this place. Very flavorful empanadas and a diverse range of options when it comes to what to eat and drink. I love the patio which makes it fun to enjoy your meal with the nice Georgia weather. They also have to go options where you can make your own empanadas + pre made fruit pops. Really solid spot in the downtown duluth area read more

This was our first time, it is actually located in the same building with Sweet Octopus but upstairs. I ordered couple drinks and empanada, the main reason I'm here for. First bite was so good, and then... it just too sweet overall. They have a very nice lady at the register, friendly and polite. A very quiet setting maybe it was the Friday afternoon. Will come back to try their other flavor of empanada since they have a lot of options. read more

My friend recommended this place so me and my hubs went here for the first time and we love it ! So many variety for " empanadas" and they make it fresh ... my favorite is the beef empanadas and pulled pork . Can't wait to go back and try something else . read more
The best thing about this place was that sakerita I had. I found this place scrolling through yelp a while ago so I was so excited to try the empanadas. Honestly, I should've known better. You HAVE to go with your gut feeling in some situations . The place smelled burnt before we even walked up the stairs so I should've known right then. I think they had their oven on too high because the outside was crispy but some of the inside was doughy. The flavor of the meat was subpar as well. It lacked in taste severely. Maybe it was just a bad day for them, who knows. The best one with the most flavor and tender meat was the pork empanada. I tried pulled pork, goulash, beef, and bulgogi. I was so disappointed in the bulgogi one. I love Korean food so I was excited to taste that one but it was tough and the flavor was not bulgogi at all. Although I was dissatisfied with the empanadas, I'd still go back for a drink or bubble tea. Also, the picture of the empanadas are very misleading . One of the main reasons I was excited to come was because I thought they were huge but they're about the size of your palm or hand. read more

Empanada House is located on the top floor of Sweet Octopus in Downtown Duluth. Super friendly services & a cute hang out spot. The beef empanada is flavorful for a good snack. The Fig & Mascarpone Empanada is a great dessert option. Mascarpone is an Italian cream cheese. OMG, so good that it melts in your mouth. (: They also have bubble teas & smoothies. I've tried the Lulo (Brazilian fruit) & soursop smoothie which isn't too bad. read more

A busy Friday means be ready to handle the rush. I can only assume they are the owners or managers, but the husband and wife duo are a MESS in my opinion. The posted in my Pic, gray shirt, the reason for the one star. Bad attitude to all the customers. The boy taking orders in Maroon shirt is a great employee. He should go somewhere with better owners. He was calm and hard working. I watched messed up orders after order because of the "owners". read more

Best empanadas ever. So many options and they have smoothies that are so tasty. Got the guava smoothie, OMG! I fell in love. I tried the beef, goulash, and guava cheese empanadas. They were all so tasty and firm. Each of them have their own special taste to them. Also the customer service was fantastic! 10/10. read more
