We found this place by chance - looking for something new. I ordered the pinchos mixto with chicken and pork and the tostones as a side. My companion had a chicken and cheese empanada and a beef empanada. I agree with other reviews that the food itself was not particularly flavorful but adding salt and the the Salsa de Ajo garlic sauce they brought to the table made it delicious! After our terrible experience at another place our group decided to go to Mama's Empanadas pretty late at night. We got really good service from the moment we walked in the door. We got seated in the patio where we ordered a couple drinks and bites to share. We told the server it was my husband's birthday and they took the time to do a little celebration for him which we really appreciated. All the bites we got to share were delicious and hot fresh! Drinks are fairly priced and I just love their patio atmosphere. They have a DJ on the weekends and they play cool music! I will definitely be back to try the empanadas! read more

The regular beef and chicken empanadas are my go to with the little ketchup/mayo blend sauce. They're consistently crispy and fresh. I'm excited to try other items on the menu, everything looks pretty good. The waitress by the register is always so kind, she reminds me of an auntie who just loves me lol and the entire ambiance of the restaurant is lit, they have the lights and music like a night club. Diamond in the rough. Stopped here before going back home to Savannah. What a pleasant surprise! Ambiance is great (this is also a lounge/dance spot at night), the empanadas are devine and there is so much variation. Try them all including the dessert ones. This was a really spur of the moment stop, I just noticed the sign and decided to stop in! I got beef empanada and chicken empanada. Between the 2, I preferred the beef one. Their crust is delicious. Delicious. I honestly could eat just crust if I had to. I enjoyed them so much that I was done eating them before I remembered to try the sauce smh. Next time, I'll get a large order and make sure I at least taste the sauce WITH the empanadas! I'll definitely be back! read more

I stopped in yesterday for a quick lunch. A Dominican (Caribbean) menu with much more than just empanadas. There are thirteen different empanadas for $3.00 each -Chicken,Cheese, Chicken and Cheese, Chicken, Cheese and Corn, Nutella and Cheese, Guana and Cheese, Bacon and Cheese, Ropa Vieja-shredded beef and vegetable, Eggplant and Cheese, Beef, Ham and Cheese, Spinach and Cheese, Vegetable and Cheese. There are 2 @ $3.50 Shrimp, Crab. Then they have a BIG empanada. This is about 9 inches long and has the filling the size of probably 5 of the smaller ones. It is $6.50. It has Chicken, Ham,Pepperoni, Beef, Cheese, Pimento, Onion, Lettuce, and Corn. I ordered this one. It was good. Lots inside-see photo. The outer dough could have been a bit better. I like the floury, yeasty more fluffy dough. The kind that is definitely hand made. This was thinner, more crispy, and I cant say if hand made or not. Great place to get some empanadas and other Dominican food. The price in comparison to other local Dominican restaurants is on the higher end, but the quality and staff are excellent (again, for a Dominican restaurant). You can tell the food is generally fresh and made to order. We live a bit from here, but make the drive to kill a craving. read more

This place gave me the worst food poisoning of my life. I was happy & healthy, hadn't eaten all day then decided I wanted to try this spot. Got lots of empanadas.. chicken, beef, etc. Then.... This restaurant got me so sick, worst food poisoning of my life. To the point I threw up bile & had to be hospitalized. I needed fluid & had to be monitored. When I say THE BEST empanadas I've tasted this side of Gwinnett....TRUST! I normally stick to beef or chicken empanadas but went out on a limb for the shrimp empanadas and when I say, the flavor was freaking INSANE.....they did WELL.....has me going back whenever on that side of town. A Mama mia... With the quarantine being slowly lifted we can look forward to more "mom and pop" shops opening doors and special social spit guards holding back the Covid-19. I picked Mamas Empanadas as my local spot to patron and show support. I was excited, being of Hispanic decent my family didnt know that empanadas came in savory forms. The ones that usually partake in are filled with pumpkin, guava or pineapple. So today we had mamas chicken, chicken with corn and beef. Upside.. i showed my family an expansion on dish. And while the dough was super flaky and buttery the fillings were a little to be desired. Missing both simple salt and pepper. They were kind of bland. However the sauce that accompanied them had a sweet heat that was good. Maybe I was expecting more I the way I've had others. These are the best empanadas I've had in the area for sure. I got the shrimp empanada and he chicken, corn and cheese empanada. Both were absolutely delicious. The sauces were amazing as well! I also had a mango con leche- so refreshing. There's a really great outdoor seating area that was fun and family friendly. I will definitely be back! Last time I was here it was a few months back with my family the worse customer service ever.It was done by this woman with blonde ‍ hair she got a attitude since the beginning poor customer service you named it.We use to come here every other Sunday and the service was good the staff always greet us with a smile, Very attentive to our needs but all that change when they put this lady as a waitress.You have loss a loyal customer and in my opinion she need to be in the back either cooking or washing dishes because she don't know how to deal with customers and believe me you're gonna lose business if you keep her as a waitress. That is the reason why are you getting a two star. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. I stopped in hoping to get a quick lunch reminiscent of my childhood days in DR. I was not disappointed. My new go to for empanadas. Came in to order pick up due to vivid-19. Got chicken empanada as well as chicken and cheese. Both great choice! Crunchy on the outside. Love it! Just wished they put the sauce to go in bigger containers and a bit more sauce. Sauce was really good as well. Guess next time I'll ask for more sauce. Friendly service.
