Baked goods are the focus but breakfast and lunch items are plenty. RECOMMENDED: large arepa, arepas rellenas, calentado, bandeja paisa, chorizo, morcilla, carne (thin steak), rice, beans. DO NOT RECOMMEND: The small arepas are dry and not very flavorful (but the big ones are excellent, just like back home!) pan de Bono is dry and only good when immediately out of oven. Eggs come out scalded. HIGHLIGHTS Extensive selection of pastries with cheese, passion fruit, pineapple, guava, coconut. Juices are a bit watery but real fruit and packed with flavor. They will make them with milk if you ask. Best flavors are mango, blackberry, passion fruit. Chicharron (pork rinds) are deep cut and meaty. Better cuts than most other places I've been.

Perro Caliente- a Columbian Style hotdog. Freaking delicious and best hotdog of my life!

Oh my gosh!!! This is an amazing little hole-in-the-wall local restaurant. My friend and I were walking about looking for coffee, and found this hidden gem instead. The staff so kind and hospitable. We had our 2 toddler boys with us, and they were so sweet with them! Trey also had sausages, empanadas, fruit juices, cookies and cakes as well. The Mango juice is delicious. I'm looking forward to going back! ***UPDATE: I went back again and the service was very different. My first experience was so good that I don't want to change the stars, but the lady and man who I wondered may be the manager were not nearly as friendly. The lady almost seemed put out? However I know people have off days. I did feel it was strange and a little rude when the lady showed me the hotdog, and I asked if I could have a few more chips sprinkled over the top- it was a lot less than the picture below, but I figured maybe the first time the ladies were being generous. She just gave me a flat abrupt "no." I own a restaurant and would have said something like, "I'm sorry. This is standard. I will have to charge you extra. Are you still interested?" Again, the first service was so amazing I don't think it's worth changing the stars. This is meant as hopefully helpful information for the restaurant itself.

Assortment of Colombian snacks: empanada, chorizo, chorizo, chicharrón, arepas and almojabana.

So I ordered from Grunhub and the food arrived relatively quick (which is a good thing) but relatively cold (not such a good thing). Got a couple of their quick snacks or appetizers and I enjoyed the chorizo and empanada but the other items were either very stale or hard. I don't know if its because it had been a while since they made it or my driver's car was super cold, but I was not impressed. If I try it again, it will have to be in person.

La Churreria offers sweet and savory pastries as well as full meals, and luckily I've tried all three. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa which boasted a generous serving of rice and beans, steak, sweet plantains, avocado, a fried egg, an arepa, and the gamechanger: the chicharron. The chicharron, which is fried pork skin, was absolutely amazing. It was rich and flavorful and such a perfect complement to everything on that plate. The beef and chicken empanadas were outstanding as well. I preferred the beef between the two, but you really can't go wrong. Finally, the sweet pastries were to die for. My favorites are the chocolate conchas and the pastelitos de guayaba y queso. Conchas are a traditional Mexican roll typically eaten with coffee at breakfast. The initial impression of the concha was not the best as it tasted sort of stale -- but the key was to just toast it in the toaster oven! When I did, the concha took on this light-as-air bite that made me wish I grabbed two. The pastelitos de guayaba y queso was one of the most remarkable pastries I have had to date. The tanginess from the cheese was such a perfect pairing with the sweet guava jam, all encased in a buttery puff pastry. It was especially heavenly when it was toasted. Truly delicious. Overall an essential stop on Buford Highway's vast food offerings.

I came here for the churros but ended up trying a couple other things too. Super nice people but they don't understand English well - I had to get help from one of their customers :) Thanks to @WeLoveBuHi for telling me about this place. CHURROS - $1.50 Asked for the caramel churros but apparently they didn't understand me - got the plain churros and it was really very good. It tasted like it was baked-to-order. Yum. CHICKEN QUESADILLA - $2 They serve a few non-dessert items too - since it was lunchtime, I ordered the chicken quesadilla. Didn't know what to expect since it was just $2. Arrived hot, very large size corn tortilla stuffed w/ lots of very thinly shredded chicken breast, no veggies. I asked for hot sauce - they had red and green sauce. Tasted just ok. MIX FRUIT VEG DRINK - $4.50 Asked for their mixed drink w/ no idea what it would include - they added celery, 2 whole carrots, 1 whole beet and 2 oranges to their juicer. Very good - definitely healthy tasting. Didn't include any ice - I had to request ice. I'd come back just for the churros - next time I'll remember to use Google Translate to ask for the caramel version :)

Storefront.

This review is for the Colombian bakery and restaurant duo La Churreria and Mr. Valdez. La Churreria and Mr. Valdez are essentially the same business. They share the same storefront and space, and all charges are rung up with La Churreria listed as the merchant. La Churreria is the bakery ("Cafe-Bakery") and Mr. Valdez is the restaurant ("Latin Cafe"). The business is located in the same strip mall as Venezuelan restaurant Natarica Grill on Buford Highway OTP (outside the perimeter) in Norcross. La Churreria is a grab-and-go bakery. The store has several cases filled with shelves upon shelves of Colombian baked goods: breads, pastries, sandwiches, cakes, and more. In addition, they sell coffee and espresso-based drinks. They have baskets which you can use to shop around and fill with the bakery items of your choice. When you're finished, go to the register to pay and they'll pack everything up for you. It appears many customers come in and pick up stuff to go. Popular and recommended items from the bakery include pan de bono (Colombian cheese bread), beef empanadas, and bunuelos (doughnuts). Other examples of foods you might find at the bakery include breads filled with ham and cheese (jamon y queso), guava and cheese pastries (guayaba y queso), and dulce de leche pastries (arequipe). The display case sitting at the front counter has more breads and pastries in addition to meats such as chorizo sausages and chicharron (fried pork rinds). The meats in the front case are the same ones used in dishes served by the restaurant portion of the business, Mr. Valdez Latin Cafe. Feel free to purchase baked goods from the bakery and take them over to the restaurant side where you can sit down at one of the tables and eat. Mr. Valdez is set up similar to a fast casual restaurant. You stand in line and order/pay upfront and the food is brought to your table when it's ready. Mr. Valdez serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Breakfast items include arepas (griddled corn cakes), eggs, and rice. Monday through Friday, there are $6.90 lunch specials which include soup, meat/fish, sides, and dessert (a good value). Regular entrees include food like steaks (bistec, carne asada), chicken, and traditional Colombian dishes like Picada, which is made with chorizo sausage, pork ribs (costilla de cerdo), yuca, potato, fried chicken, and chicharron. The picada ($19) is one of the pricier items on the menu. Most entrees are only in the $9-12 range. If I could only suggest one food item here, it would be the Arepa de Choclo. It's a sweet corn cake made with white farmer's cheese. It's kind of like a pancake, except sweeter and filled with savory, light cheese. The corn cake is fried and therefore a bit oily, but the result is delicious. A unique and fun item to order is the Perro Caliente Colombiano, which is a Colombian-style hot dog. It's huge, nearly a foot long, and loaded with a plethora of toppings including ketchup, mustard, slaw, pineapple sauce, mayo, and crushed potato chips. One of these is $4.50. If you like hot dogs or want to try something authentic to Colombia, try one. It's not bad. If you want a filling entree or want to sample several different Colombian foods, order the Bandeja Paisa or the Parrillada. The Bandeja Paisa ($11.50) comes with beans, steak, plantains, chicharron, rice, one whole avocado, a fried egg, and an arepa. The beans are cooked in a Colombian sauce and have a smoky flavor. The steak is thinly sliced and is not the best quality. The plantains are served as one single piece/banana. The chicharron is hard, crispy, expectedly fatty, but tasty. The avocado is fresh and ripe. The egg and arepa are plain. The presentation for the Parrillada ($11.50) is neat because it is served on a wooden cutting board. It comes with chicken, steak, chorizo, maduros infused with cheese, and Latin potato salad (ensalada rusa). This entree is definitely meat/protein-heavy. This is the first time I have ever seen cooked plantains (maduros) with cheese inside. To complete your dining experience, order a Latin American soda like Inca Kola (Peru), Frescolita (Venezuela), or Pony Malta (Colmbia). Behind the counter, there are several juice machines with juices such as blueberry, mango, passion fruit, lulo/naranjilla (citrus fruit), strawberry, and guanabana (soupsop). I like the blueberry. They also have Salpicon de Frutas, which is a fruit cocktail with fruits like watermelon, mango, papaya, and pineapple. It is refreshing. Service is OK. I've had poor results trying to call these folks over the phone. Either there was no answer or they just hung up on me. It may help to speak Spanish. In-person service is fine.

Great churros all orders are to order, you only can buy them single. Really good Colombian food, you can find empapadas, pasteles even morcillas. You can get all type of pastries

$1.50 Churros (Plain, Caramel)
Karen S.

Cash only. Friendly service (our cashier spoke English). Plenty of tables as most people come in, get a churro, then leave. $1.50 - Churros (Plain, Caramel) I prefer caramel over plain, but honestly they're both good. It takes a few minutes for them to make and while you wait feel free to browse the rest of the plated desserts, or ... $4 - large Horchata (or $2 small) .. get a drink! In my case, got a large horchata (small - $2, large - $4). It's huge and they don't have ice so it doesn't get diluted. Lightly sweet and very refreshing. Horchata is a Mexican drink that's a blend of rice, almonds, and cinnamon. It was a toss-up between that or a jugo (eyeing guavaba or mango), but she said they were all artifically flavored and not fresh (except for strawberry/banana), so passed on that. $1 - Pastry Was okay. Definitely coming back, especially after I get dinner 350 steps away at La Pastorita.

This review is specifically for the bakery aspect of the restaurant (I posted a review for their Latin food offerings on the 'Mr.Valdez' listing: http://www.yelp.com/biz/mr-valdez-latin-cafe-norcross#hrid:w1MrM7wJAFsmT4Z_rbWmtw). La Churreria Bakery shares their space and staff with Mr. Valdez's Latin Cafe, the entire left side of the restaurant is dedicated to the bakery; there are full length pastry cases lining the wall filled with tons of various desserts. While we were ordering our food, something listed on the menu board caught my eye immediately, it was called a "Cholaos", in the picture it looked sort of like a milkshake or ice cream topped with various fruit and a waffle cone - how could I walk away from that? Unfortunately, when I asked about it, the girl at the counter, very curtly replied that they weren't available. I've since looked it up online and it's a Colombian dessert - which again looks amazing, hopefully it'll be available on a future visit. After we finished our meal at Mr. Valdez, we decided to see about some churros. There is a $5 minimum on debit/credit here, so the boyfriend added a cup of 'Salpicon' - which is another Colombian specialty made from watermelon/fruit juice, with various diced fruits inside - their version had apples and papaya. I really quite enjoyed it, it was the perfect balance of sweetness and very refreshing. The churro took about 7-10 minutes to be ready - as I mentioned in my review for Mr. Valdez , the staff was quite overwhelmed by our large group - but it was definitely worth the wait. They came fresh out of the oven, which leads me to believe they're made to order. It was delicious, definitely the best one I've ever had. It was still warm, the outside was a perfect crisp and dusted with sugar, and the inside was caramel. So decadent and so, so good. I'll be back for the churros alone. The boyfriend also proclaimed them the best he's had, and he's somewhat of a churro aficionado - so I'd take his word for it..

I came here with my Colombian friend that helped me pick the best options so I could get a variety of items that she rated top notch. I love hotdogs and had to get the Colombian version of one. It's one of the most unique hotdogs I've ever had. It's topped off with garlic sauce, pink sauce, pineapple marmalade, crushed chips, mozzarella, and a boiled quail egg. Omg it's one of the BEST I've ever had! I died and went to culinary heaven. Trust me get one! We also ordered the empanadas, which were just as good. Among the other items we ordered we got a cheese and ham arepa, as well as the bandeja paisa. No complaints here but just praises as the food was savory and scrumptious! They do have a full bar with a variety of drinks to choose from as well as Colombian beers. I was too full to indulge on the desserts but the dessert bar was esthetically pleasing and smelled incredible! The service is great, very attentive. The restaurant gave a homey and cozy vibes. Dress code is casual. They do have complimentary parking. I am definitely coming back to enjoy and try more of the exotic plates they offer. It's not often you see Colombian cuisine, worth a visit!

With that said, the buñelos today were much fresher than the last time I had them, and so were the empanadas! The pan de queso was still warm while I was eating it and so good! I ordered an empanada con arequipe and somehow I ended up with an empanada chambray (guayaba and a cream cheese), which was actually a great mishap because it was amazingggggg and is officially my new favorite item from here!
