Been going to this place for many years now. Hasn't changed a bit since the late '80s. Friendly staff, good food and reasonable prices. I usually get the Emon Don with chicken, extra spicy teriyaki and just recently they made brown rice an option to the usual steamed white rice. The daily special combo plates are always good, and the curry chicken is nice, but no Hurry Curry. Considering Emon's close proximity to where I work, I hope to eat here often for years to come. read more

I'm not a sushi connoisseur or anything, but I've ate sushi enough to know how a basic California roll and Cucumber roll should taste. The Sushi did not taste fresh whatsoever, the California roll could of passed for a store bought pre-packed meal, and the cucumber roll that was wrapped in the seaweed just tasted completely dry and chewy, I'm not a picky eater, but it was so bad I left half the food on the plate and walked out. Waste of $11, do not recommend eating the sushi, not sure about the other food. read more

I don't know why it has taken me so long to do a review for this place, I have been eating here for years! I love, love, love it. The food is so fresh, including the sushi. The place is a small unassuming place run by a wonderful family that I believe pride themselves on having a healthy clean restaurant. I read all these overwhelmingly positive reviews and got very excited about trying it. I got the chicken teriyaki and tempura combo. This is my go-to at every Japanese place. It cost $11! That is about $2-3 more than I usually pay for the same combo meal at a place like Kabuki. And Emon didn't even include soup. On the plus side, the service was friendly and somewhat fast and the tempura was okay, if a little chewy. On the negative, the chicken had a slight freezer burn taste to it! That's okay since there wasn't too much chicken on the plate to begin with. The teriyaki sauce was really disappointing, too. The salad looked okay but the dressing was way too bitter and I didn't get past one bite. The tempura sauce was bland. I left half my meal on my plate and I felt bad for not liking it but it was by far the worst Japanese food meal I have ever eaten. read more

Was here a couple of days ago and I got a spicy tuna roll and Philadelphia roll. Mmmmmmmmmmmm! Was it so darn delicious. Not only was the food great, service was superb. Not good for vegetarians. I ordered the noodles & veggies. Made sure there was no meat stock/broth in it. When she sat it on the table I could smell the meat, so it's either in the seasoning or the broth. Completely disgusting. Won't be going there again. Nothing overly spectacular, but if I had to recommend anything it would have to be a teriyaki bowl particularly the teriyaki chicken. They have a traditional offering of take out as most other Japanese takeout restaurants. Although there have been a couple of occasions where I have ordered something and have found other things mixed in, I am willing to forgive. Anything covered with their teriyaki sauce is good. I have not been brave enough to try the sushi it just does not look like it would be all that good, but I could be wrong. read more

I am a BIG fan of Emon. Been coming here for 20 years since I was a little boy who lived right around the corner in Toluca Lake. I've stuck to one item every single time I have come, and that is the EMON COMBO. That is all you need to order at this place. Comes with teriyaki chicken, beef, rice, salad, and 2 large shrimp tempuras. Its a staple in the community and a testament to how they have stayed in business for so long. A great little place I come to with my coworkers for lunch. I'm a huge fan of the Tofu salad here. I love the dressing and it is very tasty and light. The salad is pretty big too. I usually order an order of gyoza with it and am pretty happy. The lunch box specials are always a good deal as well and they give you a pretty good amount of food. Sub par Asian food is what you'll be getting at this place. The prices are (relatively) cheap however so it's a great spot for a quickie lunch. Not really Japanese. More like Korean pretending to be Japanese. Well, it's in Burbank. That should pretty much sum it up. Only thing I get is their 'teriyaki' chicken bowl. The optional bean sprouts add a little life to the dish. It's edible when your stomach has been yelling at you to feed it and you're stuck in Burbank, so you need something quick and cheap to quiet it down. I did not like their beef bowl. after reading all the yelp reviews I decided to have lunch here. I ordered the spicy tuna don bowl with brown rice and the lunch special. Overall, it was pretty decent. You get large portions and plenty of rice to fill up on. Customer service was excellent and I didn't wait more than 10 minutes for my order. However, I would recommend ordering ahead because parking during lunch is pretty terrible.
