I'm not sure if this is a bar or Chinese restaurant, since they do both very well. And that's a rare combination. The service is always very good, even if you're not a regular, of which there are many. I'm not a regular and they always make me feel like I am. The food is excellent. I love Chinese food and they specialize in it. Big portions, very fresh offerings, and very authentic. Then you have the bar section, which seems like another world but they bring the two halves together nicely. From the outside it's a bit unassuming, but curiosity will pay off as once you're inside you'll be want to pick your own adventure: sit at the bar and feel like you're a regular with stuff drinks, or choose a table and be immersed in the food offerings. When being adventurous, you cannot go wrong with Emerald Garden. Just have an open mind and come hungry and thirsty. read more

Our service was friendly and quick. We have grown up in this little city and have frequently ate at this restaurant/bar and crave certain dishes here. The establishment has done an awesome remodel opening up the restaurant and bar, colors and theme has brought it up to a great atmosphere. I have to say how disappointed we were picking up our food. The rice and chow main containers were plum full but the (3) main dishes were scattered minimal amount along the bottom of the to go box. The portions are not right. Recommended dishes: Szechuan Crispy Chicken (like General's but way better!), Mapo Tofu with Pork, Hot/Sour Soup, Honey Walnut Prawns, but you can't go wrong with anything here! This is, hands-down, my favorite American-Chinese food spot of all time. I haven't had a single thing on the menu that I haven't liked. All of the entrees are made fresh to order, and it's fairly obvious! I've never seen a grey or mushy obviously-reheated vegetable in anything I've ordered - lots of great flavors and textures. All of the fried foods are crispy and delicious (When eating in, of course YMMV when ordering fried food for takeout) My husband and I found EG on a whim after our previous favorite Chinese restaurant in Redmond changed ownership and went downhill. We were a bit confused when we arrived and saw that the place is a bar - reminded me of walking into an American Legion or VFW especially since there's a lot of retired folks that seem to just always be there. But we decided to tough it out and at least try it once and ordered some General Tso's and Broccoli Beef. Fifteen minutes later out comes these steaming hot plates of the best General Tso's Chicken and Broccoli Beef we'd ever had in our lives! We've been hooked ever since. Pro-tip, get the Szechuan Crispy Chicken if you like General Tso's - very similar flavor, but with added Szechuan spice. This is absolutely a dive bar - make no mistake. This is not somewhere you go for the latest craft beers or locally made wine and spirits. The drinks are affordable and STIFF. If you order a gin and tonic you're getting a glass of gin with a splash of tonic! Personally I love that vibe, but apparently that's a dealbreaker for a lot of folks. If it's that big of a deal, they do offer takeout! Unfortunately, as much as I love this place I do have to knock a star off - as others have pointed out, folks do hang out right outside the door and chain-smoke, which chokes up the dining room when they leave the door open (which is often). Really wish they would either encourage people to move away from the door - Which they're required by law to do anyway! - or make more of a point to keep the front door closed. Another thing to keep in mind is the kitchen's hours aren't super strict. They say dinner service starts at 5 but there's only ever one person running the kitchen and if they're running late then you might be waiting awhile. read more

The owner of this establishment is as rude as his waitresses are lazy. They also don't understand WA liquor laws stating that they "can't accept verticals licenses" even if it clearly says that the person is over 21. As a licensed bar tender I can state with exact certainty that they can intact, yes math is hard, but not that hard. The cherry on top was the owner calling my boyfriend lazy for not replacing his license the day he turned 21. Won't be returning or recommending the establishment to our fellow residents in the Juanita Beach area. My issue isn't with the fact that they CHOSE to not accept a vertical ID, that is there choice. But they either knowingly lied about state liquor laws or they are such a dive that they don't actually know the states laws regarding IDs. They clearly claimed to make inauthentic Chinese food on their website, but I wouldn't even call this American Chinese or even good fake Chinese food. The Orange Chicken doesn't have a hint of orange taste and used carrots to give orange visuals. This is the one of these best kept secrets in Kirkland. The emerald garden restaurant and lounge. We happened upon this restaurant because it was by our bus stop and the sign emerald green inviting us to come in offering cocktails. When we walked in it was filled with the local customers but we were soon made to feel right at home. I ordered a margarita which is fantastic but potent so watch out. We ordered the hot and sour soup and the Kung Pao beef along with egg rolls. The owner and chef herself comes to serve the food. This is the best Chinese food hands down in all of the Seattle area that we have yet to experience. The atmosphere is divey and fun. The service is always great. I've been her twice now, both times for take-out and it was pretty good. This is actually one of the better Chinese places I've found in the area. I'm only giving them 3 stars because tonight when I ordered their combo #5, which usually comes with a side of Bar-B-Q Pork ribs, it's even in the photo on their website, the lady said in very broken English, that it was their mistake but there were no ribs, there was just one egg roll. I don't know if she meant they took it off the menu but not off the website, or if that's all they had left that night. Either way she didn't offer me anything extra or discount my meal and I was in a hurry and to hungry to haggle over it. Nondescript strip mall Chinese restaurant where, like Asian Wok up Market Street, the center of activity is the bar rather than the restaurant. That said, the food is quite a bit better than Asian Wok's. They have the usual dishes and combination plates are all $10.50 for dinner and $6.50 for lunch. Service was fine. The people loitering this place are there almost all day and all evening smoking by the door or walking around the parking lot. They have run out of certain items more than once but have always been good about subbing. The poster that said the drinks are stiff and bar is for drinking, not romance is correct.
