I took the Beginner Aerial Hoop class with 2 friends to celebrate my birthday. This was out of our comfort zone but the instructor, Julie?Julia?, did a great job teaching us one move at a time. We all surprised ourselves with the moves we learned and no one fell off! I highly recommend this if you want to celebrate a special occasion different than the usual dinner & drinks. I took the trapeze for everybody class, never having tried flying trapeze before. I was definitely scared at first, but the staff made me feel comfortable, and like I was in very capable hands. We bought tickets for their Mardi Gras themed party this past weekend for my birthday celebration with friends. We arrived right before our events start time and quickly realized that was a mistake. Always arrive EARLY, especially if you don't have VIP tickets. There are two levels and unless you're right up front, seeing the performers will be difficult. The first 30 minutes of our night was spent looking through little slivers of wooden slats or getting very cozy with complete strangers, just so we could see the show. Don't do that to yourself. After a bit, we decided to move and that's when things got better. Throughout the evening, the show moved to difference places which allowed our group (and many others) the chance to view the action up close. The performers and show was 5 star all the way! I chatted with one who said they offer classes to learn everything we saw in the show. Can't wait to try that myself! Nice touch to have it catered by Ezell's chicken as well. read more

Safety is emphasized. Only negative is the 48 hour cancelation policy. What if something happens within 24 hours before the class? You can't get your credit back within that period. When you walk in there are racks to hang your coats (no coat check so remember which coat is yours), and then a wide open space that leads up to a stage in the back of the room. The trapeze net is overhead and seating can be arranged around the perimeter of the net under the 2nd story walkway which is also a great place to observe the show. There is also a modest sized bar area with ample space for lines to form and high top table confirmations (set up varies by event). The event started with a show on the main stage with a few women doing Ribbon Trapeze to music. This is a great time to walk around and socialize. Then the main event starts-prepare to be impressed! The performers are from all over the world and are truly talented. I would recommend this place for a wedding, office party or even team building! (Think lessons). One note though, parking is difficult so either commute in on public transportation or plan on walking. Great addition to Seattle. read more

WOW. What an experience at Emerald City Trapeze!! This was quite possibly the most thrilling and satisfying thing I've ever done. The instructional team contributes to this almost entirely - they made me feel so comfortable here despite all my nerves, and really helped me build my confidence in addition to these new skills. They're welcoming, they're friendly - and they really know what they're doing. This is what really made this studio and experience truly unforgettable. For the majority of my life, I've had a fear of heights and open spaces, and sometimes get vertigo in certain non-enclosed spaces. Just the thought of free-falling shakes me to my core. I've always wanted to do something to over come it, but I never did - and so I booked this class, to give me a push in the right direction. Our main instructor talked us through the first 20 minutes or so of class. He had us step up to a hanging bar that was near the ground, and had us hang by our knees to get a feel for what it would be like to hang up there. He talked to us about, safety, and then talked us through what you would be doing once you got up there. Then suddenly, as he's telling me about how to make sure I was secure on the ladder harness, he suddenly says to me: "And, go ahead and head up!" Me immediately: "WHAT?! ALREADY??" I thought for sure I'd spend a little bit more time on the ground. I mean, the session was for TWO HOURS. How could I possibly spend only 20 minutes on the ground?? Somehow, between the three instructors out, they had managed to convince me that I could do it. At the top, I almost backed out of it, but in the end, I jumped - but mostly because I didn't really have any other choice. The first swing, they say, is for fear - after that, you know what to expect and your nerves are gone. I don't think my nerves ever truly went away. I climbed that ladder over, and over, and over again despite this though, and... true to their word, each swing started to feel a little easier. The fear and nerves are still there - but they've been reduced significantly, all because of the amazing instructional team here. They remind you throughout the class that they have full control of everything - you're never actually free falling (well, until you're ready to be - but those are quite advanced students), and there are safeties built on top of the safeties, redundancies almost, they say, to make sure that you're never in danger. Each fall looked terrifying as I watched my friend, but by the time I was up there, I really did feel safe. I trust them entirely at this point - not so much my own body's reaction to the potential 'danger', but them, in full. While I didn't successfully complete a catch like several of the other reviewers did, I have a video of me getting pretty close, and that is good enough for me. I ended up buying their "catch and return" deal upon leaving, determined to go back and successfully complete that catch. read more

Review for flying trapeze class and its class pack only. Pro: Very nice and enthusiastic instructors Cons: There is no real system at this place in learning flying trapeze if you're a beginner or can't fly consistently. Every time I've been to a class an instructor has asked me, "what are you working on today?" Shouldn't it be more like they tell me what I should be working on based on my limited experience? Class pack: Watch out for class cancellations 24 hours or less before the class is scheduled to run. I had 2 classes cancelled on me the day before they were scheduled to run. Apparently to ensure a class is running, you need to call ECTA no more than 24 hours before the class start time and ask what class is actually going to continue as planned. Depending on the type of flying trapeze class, there needs to be 3-4 people enrolled. The above kinda makes it hard to plan - especially when you're visiting from out of town (I lived in Seattle but moved to Portland) and are trying to take advantage of a class pass. My suggestion to this business: Don't offer so many classes if you've been experiencing low enrollment (I was given that the reasons for this are COVID-19 restrictions and time of year). Limiting the class offerings would also mean not needing to cancel classes that people don't sign up for. read more

I am NOT athletic by any means. Nor do I work out. BUT - I'm friggin GREAT at the trapeze. Who knew?! Well... maybe not great. But I sure felt cool! I've driven past this spot numerous times since it opened in SODO last fall. Feeling intimidated by the building's massive space, I decided to wait until now to finally take a class. The people who work here are well trained, polite, and professional. At no point did I feel out of shape, insecure, or silly about being so-the-opposite of all of them. In fact, you're supposed to show up in spandex or form fitting clothes. WHOOPS! I didn't have any tights on so I was loaned a pair of pants for my lesson. Thanks! The lesson kicked the crap outta me. My hands were getting sore, my abs, my legs, and it was amazing. Never have I loved getting bruises so much in my life. Flying on a trapeze is perhaps the most exhilarating thing I've ever done. In fact, one of the instructors looked me square in the eye before my first turn and said, "you're gonna get hooked." I sure did! read more

Five stars. Five stars over and over again. I took the beginning Aerial Silks class here and it borderlined on a lifechanging experience. Some things you should know about this before signing up: 1. It only costs $30 for a two hour aerial silks lesson! 2. The instructor is fabulously knowledgeable and patient. You won't feel like you don't belong there even if grace is not your best skill. I'm no ballerina and I still had an awesome time. 3. Book it WAAAY in advance. Like, a month in advance. I'd highly recommend it for tourists to the city, but don't forget to book your appointment WAAAY early. It's populer! 4. It is physically demanding. Especially on your arms. This class requires amazing upper body strength. I have next to none of that, and still had a great time, but you will ache the next week. 5. You can do it! You don't have to be in perfect shape or super athletic to feel like a silks artist. Take my pictures as proof; I promise you I'm not exactly an athlete and I still felt beautiful and strong on the silks. 6. It isn't just for girls--this experience is incredibly athletic. You feel powerful and graceful in a way I would call akin to martial arts but more demanding. And it's fun to boot. The venue also hosts shows and flying trapeze classes! They even have a couples trapeze class for date nights. I highly highly recommend this experience. It was so much fun and so unique and I will definitely be back and I recommend you give it a go too! read more

Soaring through the air, feeling the wind beneath my wings! That's the sensation you get when you partake in a flying trapeze class. Emerald City Trapeze is a cute, little studio warehouse in the Sodo district where you can live your circus life fantasies! Overall, I had a great time and the instructors were very patient. Unfortunately, I was horrible at the flying trapeze, but my fellow friends who came with were very excited and amazing at flying in the air. I don't think flying trapeze is ultimately for me, but it was definitely fun to give it a go. It's tough! Who knew you needed so much upper body strength? I got a deal on Groupon, like some others, and it was relatively inexpensive for a (2) hour class. Emerald City Trapeze also periodically has events, such as on Halloween, where performers will "do their thang" while you dance the night away. I'm all for an acrobatic show with the truly skilled. I was excited to have a trapeze birthday party here. I scheduled it for mid-April. A week before the event, I received a notice that some staff got Covid so they had to close down the studio. I emailed requesting a refund and they said they would get back to me. I have emailed 7 times since April through October and the response is that they'll "get back to me." I still have not received a refund for $600 for a birthday party I never had there. I find this incredibly unprofessional and I would caution others to trust this business. read more

Not sure why I didn't write this review earlier, however my opinion about the overall experience had here has stayed with me long after my visit. I got a Groupon type deal for this place with a friend because we thought it would be fun to just go swing on the trapeze for a bit. I had no idea what to expect and did not imagine I'd be upside down swinging from a trapeze with no hands in a mere hour or so. I'm not afraid of heights, however walking up a narrow rope ladder was enough to get the adrenaline kicking. All of the staff here were super encouraging and supportive - this really made the experience what it was - FUN and EXCITING! The instructors began the class with a tutorial of the steps we would be taking in honing some basic skills. The class of about 10 of us got to watch the pros complete each skill before we tried our hand at each step of the way. Just when we began to worry that the task at hand was going to be too difficult...whoosh! It was too late to back out and it was time to fly! I appreciated the speed at which the instructor pushed the class along, and the individual tips they gave to each of us. Several regulars of this gym would practice in between tutorial sessions and it was neat to see all of the tricks they were doing with the same fundamentals we were learning. The front entrance cashier answered my questions about parking well enough. Although the second time through she just seemed way too casual, to the extent that I grabbed several drinks from their refrigerator and had to push her to charge me for them. I could easily raided their fridge and the cashier would not even notice. Plus she brought her partner in towards the end, so both of them were covered in blankets having dinner, and just handling my end of class experience (which I was wanting to purchase another, like a meh, whatever type vibe.) I'm still giving this place 5 stars. You think you're actually sitting in a class? You think you're just going to touch the ropes? Nopes. It's a two minute talk repeated twice and then you are in the AIR. The trainers are amazing. They'll walk you through everything. Adjust their commands based on your response time perfectñy. They support you. They see what you are doing and refocus your attention, They make you feel safe and capable, and when you make a mistake, nothing happens, you move on quickly, and they celebrate your advancements and actually recognize them. It's recorded, they tell you wow your body position was great. You just need to pull your legs a little more backwards. Like this, let me show you. And then you do it again. Awesome, incredible trainers. Going back. What a great experience. Hopefully, I can sidetrack that cashier tho. Though probably could just walk past her and just overhear "meh' whatever." read more

Amazing place to learn trapeze! I have been here more than 10 times, started with curiosity and thought I would just do it once. But it was so much fun that I decided to come back and back again. The trapeze class is so much fun, they keep the class relatively small and each class has 3 instructors. Most of people will learn one trick and do "catch" in their very first class, the instructors here are fantastic, they are very patient, professional, encouraging and fun! I bought the "Date Night" tickets for my boyfriend and I and I have to say this was one of the most fun dates we've ever done! Staff is quirky and our group was small which made it perfect. Because of this we were able to get more turns in which means more time in the air! You will be barefoot for the whole time so i doesn't matter what shoes you wear. You start with a warm up for about 15 mins. Running and stretching. Then you do pair yoga but the yoga is more like small stunts. This lasts about 30 mins. After that you get to go flying! You are taught small sections of one whole act. So each time you go up your going to be adding on to what you previously did. First is just getting use to the height and the bar. It's the scariest part!! After that it gets much easier. Your act will include a few swings and a spinning dismount! After the event they will ask if you want to buy more classes - at a discount (I think 20% off for first timers). So be thinking about that during this class. It's fairly expensive but it's definitely worth it. We ended up not buying additional only because at the time we didn't live very close and getting out there would have been somewhat of a hassle. However the price for the Date Night was well worth it. I'd definitely recommend! read more

Had an amazing time! Came here with a bachelorette party and I was told by a friend that "This is the best bachelorette party I have ever been to!" Half of us bought extra sessions because we had so much fun. The coaches are knowledgeable and want to keep you safe. Word to the wise... Make sure you listen! I had come to Emerald City Trapeze for my neighbor Megan H's birthday party--and jeez was it a blast. So much so that I purchased two more classes to take on my own. You go over safety, basics, and next thing you know, you're soaring high in mid-air wondering if you should land on your back or feet. So, I really love this place and the people are really nice but if you EVER want to do an EVENT here...RUN! They want to charge us $2,500 to play a PowerPoint on repeat all night and to play ambient music for 3 hours with nothing special. It's really sad that this could have been a better experience and now my company will recommend others stay away. Go for classes but stay away from events they will keep coming up with costs and fees...oh...that's not included you have to pay more, and more. Brought a group of 8-10 year olds for a birthday party. We had a wide range of comfort levels and athleticism in the group, and the instructors did a great job of accommodating. In the end, all but one kiddo were flying high. (We enlisted the one who was truly scared of heights as "team photographer" and the other kids gave her plenty of support to do make the decision that worked for her.) While others studios have been transparent about how they're supporting their teachers and reopening, ECTA has been less than forthcoming about their staff wages/staff support during covid (which is especially hard for circus staff). There has also been no word until today about cleaning/reopening policies. Their teachers are amazing and the reason students come back so it's a shame that they aren't treated better. read more

That was so amazing and fun and creative, so much so that I booked another vacation to Seattle specifically around Halloween so I could go again! The staff at emerald are experts at teaching and making you feel comfortable. I was so impressed and my friends and I all had a blast. One friend had NO idea what she was getting into - she interpreted trapeze as aerial silks in her head and was utterly shocked when she arrived. She almost did not jump at the top/was freaking out but the staff encouraged her/gave her no choice, of course knowing she had it inside her to do it!! And she did!! And loved it!! At the end of the two hours, everyone attempted a catch, and all but one was able to catch, which is amazing for all first timers. I had to try 3 times and it felt SO GOOD when I finally caught. Thanks to the team for letting me keep trying!! Haha At the end of the session, they offer a "catch and return" deal -- $60 for 2 classes. The best deal this place offers, even better than their class packages. Individually it costs $60 per class which is so expensive, but understandable as there are several staff members who have to work to get one class going. It's not just one teacher, it's a whole team effort and I'll gladly give them my money again! Tip: if you've got one friend truly too afraid to do it but wants to come along, get him or her to photograph/video for you from the second floor! read more
