Update: the daughter finally called me (after I left repeated messages) 2 months later and said we are not going to take care of this issue since so much time has passed (yes, I have been trying to get in touch and clearly you have been avoiding returning my phone calls). The way this was handled was so disappointing. At the very least, they could've given me a gift card for the dbl charged amount. At any rate, my husband and I can't bring ourselves to patronize them again. Over the past year, there have been 6 or 7 times when a family member or friend suggested Embur, and we explain our issue and that we no longer eat there. This is the only restaurant I've ever had such poor customer service and there are plenty of other restaurants in Greensboro that at least pretend to care about their customers and would do the right thing in a situation like this. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! One thing of note is that it is very loud. The sound echos so it can be hard to hear the people you are with. Otherwise all of the food I have had has been sensational. I have visited Embur a few times now and I do not plan on going back. Recently I visited twice hoping to order their pizzas and both times I was told they were not serving pizza. Each time I was disappointed and especially the last time when we were sat immediately, then had to wait a while for the waiter to drop off the menus and get out drink order, took a long time to come back with our drinks and then decided to tell us that they weren't serving pizza. We then had to change our dinner choice which was a but frustrating, especially since we had already waited for so long. We ordered the empanadas which are good. They are oven baked and not fried which I like. Ironically the food came out almost immediately after ordering with the exception of the empanadas that should have been an appetizer which we then had to ask for again. For the meal I ordered the 1/4 chicken with black beans and rice. I will say their pollo a la brasa is very good. It's flavorful, moist and well cooked. It seems that their chicken is the only dish with great flavor that I have had. The beans are bland, their sauces (even their hot sauce) are not very flavorful and the arroz chaufa da vegetables needed way more seasoning. Overall, my first trip to Embur did not disappoint. I went with a group of friends, and we started out with some appetizers, including the yuquitas a la huancaína. If you stop by Embur, I will always recommend the yuquitas for your visit. Who can go wrong with yucas on any day? I was pleasantly satisfied with my grilled salmon. The combo of the spices and the medium finish brought out a mix of savory flavor that I was looking for tonight. The house rice was the perfect complement for me since I was looking for a filling dinner meal. Paired with some drinks tonight, they had plenty of wine, beer, and cocktail options, but mezcal has my heart. I had to pick out the spicy Paloma, which layered nicely with the tart flavor of grapefruit with the smokiness of mezcal. I went here for valentines date night and it was so good. I hate to have to admit me and my date were definitely "those people" who walked in 60 seconds till closing and I must say they treated us so kindly! Our waiter was so patient and did not make us feel like we were in a rush at all. The host told us to grab any table and immediately rushed over to switch the table cloth because ofc at the end of the day is wasn't the most clean. Our waiter approached shortly after, very kind and willing to assist us in under Peruvian flavors and the nights specials, they didn't have bread to serve which was disappointing but.. we walked in @8:59. For appetizers we had Crochets? I think. It was an amazing cheesy risotto type ball with an amazing filling and it was so crispy outside. My husband took me here for date night on a Thursday afternoon as he thought it seemed like a great new restaurant for us to try. We were both blown away at how good the food was here!! It is a small restaurant kind of tucked away in a corner off friendly with casual but romantic vibes. Our server was kind and patient with us, informing us of the evening specials and giving us her personal recommendations, which is always nice. She clarified any questions we had about the menu and gave us time to decide what we wanted while still refilling our drinks and bringing our appetizer! The chicken yuca croquettes were absolutely divine, unlike anything I have ever tasted! They not only tasted great but were perfect size to ease your hunger before the main course without overfilling you. Our first time at Embur. We normally go to Viva Chicken for Peruvian food. The place smelled great upon arrival. They had a full service bar and the place was nice and clean. I ordered a chicken stir fry with vegetables and my husband ordered a half chicken with salad and fries. His was juicy and fall off the bone good. Mine was on the too salty side. Started off with a beef empenada and the super yummy flavorful salsa it came with. I ordered the tallarin saltado de pollo and I could barely hold off on eating it, I had to share some pictures of the dish because it's my favorite Peruvian dish but there weren't any pictures on their Yelp. Honestly... if all this place ever did was serve me their garlic oil and a bunch of fresh bread... and keep the drinks coming, I would be a very happy man. The garlic oil is incredibly flavorful, and goes amazing on everything. Bread, fries, veggies... whatever. It is the chef's kiss. That said, most people go here for more than just bread and oil. My wife and I went here for my birthday lunch, and generally enjoyed our experience, though the service was just... well, let's call it friendly but bad. We waited a long time for most things, whether that be getting our order taken, a drink refill, or getting the check... we spent more time waiting here than we did eating. The food was very good. We each started off with an empanada which was decidedly superb. For lunch, I had their grilled veggie sandwich, but had them add some of their Peruvian rotisserie chicken. Excellent decision for those not caring whether a sandwich is vegetarian. It was served with steak fries, all of which i promptly garlic oiled up. My wife had a pizza, which was fairly good, but not as impressive as my sandwich all told. In the end, I would say this is a very nice restaurant. Excellent atmosphere, fresh ingredients, passionate chefs. In my experience at least, the service did not quite match that, but I would still return for more without a doubt. read more

My husband and I made our fourth trip to Embur because the food is so delicious. Tonight we had the Skirt Steak. It's the one that is $28 on the menu but when they brought us our check, we were each charged $40!! No prior mention by our waiter, on the menu or on any signs that they were now raising the price on us... on you!! The table next to us still had their menus and I asked them to confirm the price on the menu and to see if there was a disclaimer. There was not.. it was $28! The couple said that the last time they were there they were charged $38 for the skirt steak and were also not told ahead of time. They were back for something else. As I said, the food really is wonderful!! When I asked the waiter why the increase, he said he was supposed to let me know it's now "market price", but he forgot. He said what do you want me to do?? I said get me your manager. The manager came over, gave a quick apology and asked if he could just remove our appetizer. I told him I would like to receive the price in the menu. He said he wasn't sure he could do that. He did come back though with the up charge removed. Look, I have no problem paying for good food and would probably have paid the $40 for the steak because it's quite delicious. But... I don't appreciate being cheated. I don't appreciate them passing out a menu night after night and just raising the price with no mention in the hopes that no one will notice. Also, on this visit we tried to order the beef empanadas. For the fourth time, we were told they only have chicken. If you aren't ever going to carry them, then pull them from your menu. Sadly, we won't be back to Embur. As much as we loved our dinners there, I can't help but feel there is just something not right in what they are charging people. If you want to change your price and can't afford new menus, just attach a note to the menu, put a paper on the table or for goodness sake just tape over the price. Be honest. read more

Ok this has fast become our top go-to restaurant in Greensboro. Start with the shrimp of chicken Yuca Croquettes and the Fornarina flat bread with herbed oil. For lunch or dinner we always choose the Areoz Chaufa, which is like a Peruvian stir-fry. You pick your protein-I always choose steak, but hubby has had chicken and salmon and give all high marks. Nice! Just rolled in from the West Coast for a work trip and heard that this was a good place for dinner. We both had beef empanadas, They we're a tad dry but tasty. We were told that the chimichurri was incredible here and this is true. It is amazing! My buddy had the Lomo Saltado pizza, which is an occasional dish. I went here for a late birthday dinner with my dad. Since pops was paying, I chose a place that was a little bit out of my own price range- thanks dad! The space is fairly small, they do have a covered outdoor seating area but it wouldn't really be large enough for a big group. We started with drinks- the wine menu was quite impressive, but we were feeling cocktails so we opted for those. Unfortunately they were out of Pisco, a Peruvian brandy that makes their cocktails unique. Instead my dad had a Paloma (which he claimed was average), I had the Aperol Spritz (which was a little sweet, but delicious) and my husband got an Inca Kola soda, which he said was also good. This place is Peruvian/Italian fusion but we wanted to try the Peruvian dishes so we ordered the Barramundi, but they were out of it. We settled on the Ceviche and the Lomo Saltado. Both were very good- especially the steak in the Saltado. The portions were adequate but I was expecting them to be bigger, based on the prices. My husband is a vegetarian so he ordered the Arroz Chaufa, which he said was delicious. Over all, the food and service were good, if not a bit overpriced, but we were disappointed that they were out of so many things. I would definitely eat here again, but maybe order something a little cheaper. read more

We were there with big group;16 people. This is our first time to this restaurant. We already made reservation few days before. So they should have known and prepared for that. Food take like an hour feel like forever to the table, while it's not that busy when we're there at that particular time. And our orders were simple. I don't understand why took it that long. It's a little pricey for what you get...took forever for your just water to refilled. And the waiter not so friendly. He just like to finish the order quickly then go. I absolutely love the food here - when it's done right. I often go to this restaurant to pick up group lunch orders from work and I ALWAYS get the chicken chaufa, NO BEAN SPROUTS. The last two trips however, and the reason for 2 stars, the owner/chef just can't seem to keep the bean sprouts out of my food. I called the Mgr Jeff on July 12th (1st pic below) and he said the chef said he didn't put any sprouts in it and stood his ground on it. Jeff said he'd give me a side or appetizer free next time I come in to make things right. I mentioned that in today's visit (7/28/21) and the owner said he will give me the side when Jeff comes in at 4:30. IT'S LUNCH TIME! I placed the four orders I was picking up. When I arrived I showed the hostess the 1st picture and she agreed- those are bean sprouts. She even said the owner said he didn't put any in there (which tells me he remembers the 1st situation) and I told her to show him the picture (it's not like I can't see him in the kitchen). She went around the corner and came back and just stood there. I waited, then asked if he is coming and she shook her head no. Then said he said he's busy. There was one other person in the restaurant and one being seated outside. An owner should respect their customers and own up to their mistakes. read more

We are always on the lookout for peruvian/Latin fusion spots and Embur is definitely among some of the best we've tried. As a table, we ordered yuquitas a la huancaina as an appetizer which was solid--we could've appreciated the huancaina being a little more spicy however, very palitable for non-peruvian audiences. We ordered pollo a la brasa (good flavor on the skin however, the actual white meat of the chicken lacked flavor), lomo saltado (so good) and maduros. We ordered a pisco sour and espresso martini--both delicious. Overall, it was a great dinner on a busy Saturday night. Finally something different. Do you ever feel like the restaurant scene in Greensboro is sort of like the restaurant scene at a big airport? Sure there are different restaurants, but they are all remarkable similar below the almost cleverly named chicken whatever with their "smokey sweet signature sauce"! That's not to say that we don't have our Atlanta Hartsfield Concourse B style options, but for the most part, the Whoop Daddy Chicken Sandwich at Lots of Big TVs Grille is roughly the same as the Hand Fed and Pleasantly Harvested Chicken Experience at Mid Century Modern Furniture Isn't Comfortable Bistro. Then there is Embur. I'm admittedly a creature of habit, so it took me a while to find Embur, but wow, I'm glad I tried them out! Embur has a wood fired rotisserie oven and brick pizza oven that are about the size of a mini van! While they serve lots of different proteins, the chicken sandwich and Americana Pizza are what I have tried. Both are next level. This my new favorite pizza place. If I were Paul Hollywood, I would shake the chef's hand...after I glared into the camera with those ice blue eyes! (You know what you are doing to my wife, Paul Hollywood! That's not cool!). The sauce they use on pizza is fantastic, the crust is just bready enough, and they use these little peppers which will light you up just enough, but won't hang on and punish you for 30 mins. The chicken sandwich is full of flavor and will make you forget the fact that there isn't a single big screen tv in the place! Embur is the first place I have ever seen at which Skirt Steak is "market price", but who knows. That may be the wave of the future for all sorts of stuff soon. "What is the market price for ice in my water?" Bottom line, Embur is wonderfully different. Something unique is that the menu has basic building blocks with lots of options for proteins and sauce. We actually treat this as one of our favorite steak places...they typically have a ribeye in addition to the skirt steak and both come with Chimichurri sauce, we order extra. Also. If you've not tried the alfajores cookies...you should. They are a Peruvian cookie, a bit like shortbread, with dulce de leche and then rolled in a bit of coconut. We typically reserve an order when we sit down to ensure they don't run out. Lastly, but importantly for me, we always see friends there and I really like that...we have gotten to know some of the employees and it is simply a nice, fun place to go. This is my fourth time eating at Ember in Greensboro, NC. The food is so good that I never had to ask for salt or pepper each time. It's just amazing!!! The atmosphere is nice, and for the most part, the staff is cool--especially the bartender. He's a cool guy. Having only been there four times, he remembered us every time we came in to eat and, without fail, came to our table to speak to us and make sure we were good. However, I went to this establishment last Saturday, June 22nd. One of the servers greeted us, and I stated that we needed a table for two. She looked around and then told me they didn't have any indoor available tables for two unless we wanted to sit at the bar or outside, where there were plenty of tables for two people. I was not about to do that because it was hot, and we had somewhere to be after we ate, which would've made us sweaty to sit out there, so I told her no. Her response took me aback because I quickly recognized the empty tables, although they were busy. I'd never seen it so busy there, mostly because I've only eaten there on weekdays vs. weekends. Long story short, I looked around and asked her why we couldn't sit at any of the open tables that were inside. Get this: five tables sat four with nobody sitting at them, and two tables of six had nobody sitting at them. She then stated those tables are if larger groups come in. I then looked behind me, and no groups of any size were behind me. I told her we would only be there for less than an hour and couldn't understand why we couldn't sit indoors to eat. She stuck to what she said. I then asked to speak to the manager, and it was at that point she had a change of heart and sat us down at one of the empty tables that sat four. Now, I have to say that our actual server, Allie (sp?), who served us once we were seated, was absolutely phenomenal. She apologized and stated she wasn't sure why the other server told us we couldn't sit at any of the larger tables. While we were eating, the restaurant actually started emptying out, and the majority of the tables were now empty, but no larger parties of four or more ever came in the entire time we were there. So far, I have eaten five items on the menu, and they were all great. If you are a beverage drinker while eating, this might not be the place for you because they DO NOT offer refills. So, if you want another glass of sweet tea, soda, lemonade, etc., you must pay for every drink. I didn't care for that and don't recall them doing that during my previous three visits. Usually, when I go out to eat, I never drink more than one glass of whatever, but that day, I was thirsty and asked for one refill, and that's when I was told it was not free and that I'd have to pay for a refill of sweet tea. That's ridiculous, but it's their policy, so what can you do? Take tiny sips so your drink can last during your meal. Aside from this isolated incident, I still recommend this establishment. I was not sure what to expect on my first visit to Embur and was wonderfully surprised as soon as I walked in. The decor is very cool and sleek: a place you immediately want to enjoy. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The menu was not what I expected either. It is very "chicken oriented" with their oven roasted chicken offered in salads, sandwiches, in 1/4's and 1/2 chickens, and the biggest surprise: pizzas! Wood fired pizzas. A wood fired oven. Embur. Duh! Now I get it. It was hard to decide between the Embur sandwich, a tasty salad, or a pizza. Well not really because as great as the sandwiches and salads looked, I couldn't pass up their wood fired pizza. It was delicious. Try the infused oils on your pizza. They compliment the wood-fired pizza very nicely. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try more of their menu and to linger longer with a drink or two. read more
