He at first disappeared for almost 2 months after receiving $45,000 from me, he didn't reply any email I sent him. Then, one time, he yelled at me on the phone out of no reason ( maybe my accent irritated him?). When I tried to say something, he said he didn't understand what I said, and started saying what he wanted to say. Another time, I emailed him I felt too depressed to call him, and right away I got his call. ( Is this some sort of abusive behavior? Or he doesn't know what respect is? Weird thing was he hanged up in the middle of conversation, and emailed me he tried to call me back, but I didn't answer the phone, while I still had my phone in my hand, and no call coming) He always did his work at last minute, and never sent me drafts for comments or feedback before filing to the court. ( he seemed to forget that's my appeal? Or he just doesn't know what respect is?) When the appeal was denied, he said he didn't have much time to prepare petition for review. So he would file a motion for reconsideration, which would be denied for sure, but it would give him more time to prepare for petition, and of course, I had to pay for the time he spent on the motion which was going to be denied for certain, that's about $8,000 after I got the invoice. In the end, I paid him $44,000. I was glad I finally fired him because I really didnt know if he wanted to help, or he just wanted my money, and "pretended" to help. I have been treated with disrespect and abuse by this lawyer. I actually felt at the 2 time meeting he didn't seem to want to help after talking to former lawyer Anna Tolin ( Tolin law firm) who has tried to persuade me to give up my right to my appeal. But I didn't know why he decided to take my appeal, if he didn't want to help.

What stood out most in our interactions with Stokes Lawrence was the firm's approach to the record…read moreand communications. In our experience, the firm relied heavily on enforcement language and broad accusations, while avoiding direct engagement with the underlying written record. When we responded using timestamped emails and contemporaneous documents, the posture did not shift toward clarifying facts or reconciling inconsistencies. Instead, communications tended to reframe issues through selective characterization rather than document-based correction. Equally telling were the non-responses. When we asked for clarification or invited the firm to identify what, specifically, was false, the lack of a substantive reply spoke for itself. Repeated non-answers and unsuccessful attempts to challenge factual statements say a lot about the strength of the narrative being advanced. Rather than disproving what we raised, the firm's replies tended to confirm a pattern of pressure and deterrence, with little direct engagement with the record. The more the firm responded, the less credible the opposing narrative appeared. Their communications did not resolve inconsistencies; they highlighted them. When counsel's position conflicts with the client's own contemporaneous emails and documents, it reflects poorly on the client and makes the overall story harder to trust. For context, we interacted with Stokes Lawrence while it represented the other side. If you are considering hiring this firm, we recommend getting clarity upfront on strategy and objectives. In our experience, the posture leaned more toward liability containment and escalation than factual reconciliation or resolution.

Stokes Lawrence failed my family when we needed them most. My father hired them with a very clear…read moreand urgent goal: to protect my legal rights in the event he became incapacitated. Despite knowing this, they drafted documents that ultimately did not protect me -- and never warned us that such a devastating failure was even possible. When I sought answers and help after the fact, I was met with delayed responses, hollow apologies, and empty referrals to other attorneys who "might" help -- with no real effort to correct the damage they caused. Their handling of this situation showed a complete lack of care, accountability, and professionalism. Hiring an attorney is an act of trust. Stokes Lawrence broke that trust completely. They were negligent when drafting critical documents, negligent in advising us, and negligent in standing behind their work when problems emerged. If you value your family's well-being, your legal rights, and your peace of mind, stay far away from Stokes Lawrence. They are not the experts or advocates they claim to be.

They talked as if it was all unicorns and rainbows and told us that everything was fine but in reality it was not. They hired a company that overcharged us to handle the payment of the lawsuit. This company also consistently missed its deadlines. After all was said and done after pressuring them to release information they finally did. This is information that had been withheld from us the whole time was alarming to say the least. We were constantly told that the lawsuit was fair and that everything is going as planned but in reality the lawsuit was highly unfair and we waited ten years to get $97. What's even crazier is that the lawyers had their own fund but still didn't have the decency to pick a good administrator to handle this and for a much better price. There was also these 3 tacked on class actions that had nothing to do with our case that eat up our fund. We thought that they would remove after them talking about it being a waste but ended up leaving them and we were left with damn near nothing. I'm absolutely pissed!
