They made sure my property and my concrete apron were clear. Then last month I asked them to return to our house and finish four other projects that I want done. Again an excellent job. I want to give an honest firsthand account of what took place here because the experience my family…read morewent through was handled in a way no one should have to deal with. Our neighbor had hired this company to handle snow removal during the blizzard. The day before things escalated, my mother spoke with our neighbor outside and calmly let him know that the crew should avoid putting snow onto our side of the property. He said he would pass it along. The following morning the crew returned and deposited snow in the same areas anyway. My mother stepped outside around 9:41 AM and made a polite request for the crew to stop. The very first thing the owner said back to her was a sarcastic good morning. She told him she had no desire to argue and that this had already happened the previous day. He responded with a brief philosophical remark about what you put into the universe, told her no problem, and walked away without doing anything. My father had been asleep after working a night shift. He came out once he realized the snow was still there and made a straightforward request for the crew to remove it. The owner responded by turning to his crew and instructing them out loud to ignore my father while he was standing right there. My father explained his situation. The owner brushed it off as though the concern was about where future snow might go, not the snow already sitting on our property and blocking our gate. My father went back inside. Less than a minute after telling his crew to disregard my father, the owner walked over to our neighbor and stated that he had already apologized to us. No apology of any kind had taken place. That claim later became the foundation for every apology reference made in public responses about this incident. Around 9:58 AM the crew appeared to be heading toward their trucks as though they were about to leave. The snow was still on our property. My father came back out, and that alone is the reason it was eventually removed. He told them plainly he just needed that snow taken care of. The owner responded by questioning what snow he was referring to. When my father pointed to it, the owner responded with a rude comment directed at him. That was the first harsh language in the entire interaction, and it came from the owner. He followed it up by referring to my father sarcastically and saying the snow would melt around June. As my father and I walked toward the snow, the owner told us in crude terms to get away, despite the fact that it was sitting on our property. At the same time, without my knowledge, the owner's son pulled a shovel from the truck and threw it in my direction while my back was turned. I only found out after reviewing security camera footage. I tried to have a calm conversation. He cut me off. I pointed to the fence posts separating our two properties and asked how we were supposed to access our gate. He said so what, then made another crude remark about the number of properties he had worked on. My mother offered the simplest resolution: remove what the crew put there and we are done. The owner told her she lacked intelligence, repeated three times that the storm snow justified where his crew placed it, then claimed it came from the town plow. That was his third explanation, after saying the crew could not see the driveway and before that that they mistook it for grass. He then mocked her accent and taunted her. A neighbor watching from nearby said she had been planning to hire him and no longer would. He told her not to. When I mentioned we had footage of the crew moving snow onto our property, the owner's son told us to go ahead and watch it. We are keeping it private out of respect for everyone involved, but we have it. The snow was not removed until nearly 27 minutes after my mother's first request. As the crew left, the owner's son directed an obscene gesture at our family caught on our doorbell camera. The owner confirmed this in his public response. It was the only thing he acknowledged. A few points worth clarifying: The owner introduced harsh language into this situation, directed at my father. My mother's first strong language came 25 minutes later, in direct response to the owner's son directing it at me unprovoked. She was responding, not initiating. No apology was ever made. My mother told the owner directly that an apology and a commitment to clean up was all it would have taken. He never offered either. The fence posts are clearly visible. I pointed to them. The owner said so what. Our family had known our neighbors for nearly twenty years. That relationship is now damaged, not over snow landing in the wrong place, but over how every moment of this was handled. Two sentences and a shovel would have ended it. We asked for an acknowledgment and a cleanup. We never received either willingly.

Showed up more than an hour late for a quote (bad…read moresign), promised us that it would take 1 day if he brought 4 guys BUT at the appointed day, came an hour late, brought only himself (!), when confronted gave a lame a$$ excuse, didn't apologize & sat down to eat, text & yak on the phone for an hour before finally getting to work. Sigh. This is going to be a LONG day. He had to move all the heavy furniture himself & damaged a piece. He was dismissive & unapologetic (laughed) but made a feeble attempt at "repair" when confronted. Also, each time his phone rang (which was constant) he would drop & stop everything to yak only to eventually cradle the phone & try to paint. Not a reassuring picture! Of course, he couldn't finish so had to come the next day. Next day, he brought an additional guy (I suspect because HE was in a rush to finish because he had another job planned) but tried to skip out without putting any furniture/pictures back in place (again had to be confronted), left soiled papers strewn about & refused to give me a receipt for a cash payment even though told repeatedly beforehand one was needed as proof of payment. (I had to to make one up right there, on the spot for him to sign). He acts as if HE's the boss. Unless you set him straight. Bottom line: You'll have to be assertive (he's that guy) otherwise, he'll walk all over you & take advantage. And even then, it'll only be an ok job.

Late last fall, we moved into a house…read morein Queens, which required a decent amount of work given the age of the building - our scope of work included refinishing flooring, painting the entire building (4 floors), basement refinishing, changing lighting structure, installation of handrails throughout the house, and bathroom remodeling. As you can imagine, contracting is a stressful process, especially since it requires a lot of trust and the size of the investment. We wanted to find someone who could handle the entire scope of work. After soliciting ~5 quotes, we chose Tomas since he seemed the most knowledgeable about safety codes, asked questions that reflected his knowledge of construction (many general contractors just outsource work while Tomas does a significant amount himself), he had a quote that included everything (allowed us to pick out materials and to pay for cost differences versus the assumed budgeted amount, we could just tell Tomas what materials we wanted and he would pick it up for implementation), and the final price was very reasonable. We ended up having him paint our old Brooklyn apartment as well since we were so pleased with working with him. PROS: - Tomas is very trust-worthy and can handle very large projects reliably. In a situation where he saw a safety issue in our boiler room, he went above and beyond to cover the room in metal sheeting for fire containment. We gave him our keys for entry/exit for several months and didn't worry about security. Tomas is very honest and we really appreciated his expertise and hard work - Tomas can handle projects of different types so it made the renovation process much easier. We could add on additional jobs which came at a reasonable price. Unlike various contracting horror stories, we had a really good experience and felt that he was very fair and upfront about costs - Tomas does quality work and doesn't try to nickel/dime for his work. (EX: for our Brooklyn painting job, we had a painter quote added fees for closet doors, an additional fee for one crack in the wall, and an additional fee for the ceiling height in the kitchen. Tomas just gave one quote and fixed up all the unseemly parts under the fixed price) - We are very pleased with our final result! We love our new bedroom lighting (recessed lighting that required new sheetrock for the ceiling), our revamped basement/bathroom, and the fresh coat of paint on the house. The before/after pictures are really significant and Tomas really transformed our space - Tomas is really reliable. We had an situation where we needed something on a hard deadline and an unfortunate mishap occurred. Tomas came in and fixed the problem even when it took him to 2 AM in the morning. CONS: - This isn't a negative on Tomas per se (we recommend him very strongly), but if you are refinishing wood flooring, probably better to go with someone who specializes in refinishing wood flooring since this is an area where specialization does make a huge difference versus a general contractor. Tomas is great in lighting, tiling, general contracting (bathroom/basement in our case), painting, among other activities, but wood flooring is an area that I potentially would have done differently. I'm not displeased with the result and Tomas definitely fixed our most problem areas, but for those who care about wood flooring in older houses, I think hiring a specialist would be better here. We highly recommend Tomas! He is truly great to work with!!
