I had a very painful piecemeal job that needed a mason, a carpenter and a garage door guy to repair…read moreice damage that had my garage door inoperable and deteriorated brick was pushing out the entire garage door frame. After several calls to masons and contractors in the area, no one wanted to do the job or even stop to look...even folks that have done work here in the past. I called David, he stopped over an hour later, devised a plan and emailed a price. The whole job was done in two days including masonry work, repairing / reinstalling the huge door frame and reassembling/hanging the garage door which I had dismantled and removed including some of the hardware. He was able to keep the door frame intact - and did a nice wood repair and bondo job to get rid of the rot. Year after year, I am so disappointed with the quality of workmanship and lack of pride in most contractors- plus the outrageous Westfield markup. I would have had to hire 3 different guys to get this job completed and would have taken months. When David stopped over for payment, I said it's been decades since handing someone a check was a pleasure...and a nice change of pace to not have the "upcharge and extras" routine. The person that took the call at DeVito was not particularly professional (taking another call while I was on the line and raising his voice at that person twice to say he was on a business call and had to go ... all of which I heard). I ended up going with the secondary plumber, but didn't call to cancel DeVito for 2 hours (still 3 hours from the time they were supposed to arrive). When I called to cancel, the person answering the phone was understandably upset because he told me that he had to move around guys to make time for this call in the afternoon. I apologized and he proceeded to berate me over the phone yelling, "It is people like you that make me lose money," and continuing on to vent his frustration while yelling. I was silent and eventually hung up. While I now understand that my cancelation may have inconvenienced this business, it is unacceptable to berate a potential customer over the phone. If this is the way they treat their customers, mistake or not, I would not recommend them doing service in anyone's home.

We recently called Bertoli to service a bath tub issue. Two maintenance people came and exhibited…read moreabsolutely no idea of what they were doing. In an effort to isolate , what they thought was an additional shut off valve, they proceeded to cut three holes in my ceiling. After not finding what they thought was there they tried to replace the pieces of the ceiling breaking half of them. Needless to say the job was not completed. One week later another maintenance man comes and fixes the issues and wonders why the other two cut my ceiling. He assured us Bertoli would fix the ceilings immediately. The end result is Bertoli office refused to repair any of THEIR damage unless we gave them another $895.00. This company is a disgrace to the township of Rockaway if they can't stand behind their incompetence. UPDATE - it's great to know that Bertoli immediately reached out to us to explain the miscommunication between us and will immediately take care of all issues. I appreciate the Bertoli response once they realized a mistake and poor communication among us was the real issue. Thanks for stepping up to the plate Bertoli.
