My husband and I just had a 90 minute couple's massage yesterday. He got a deep tissue and I got a prenatal one. We arrived 10 minutes early for our appointment. They were running a little behind, but we didn't mind. We were offered little bottles of water which was nice. The place is cute and small. The ladies were very welcoming. Our appointment was at 2:15 pm and we started around 2:30pm. We left a little after 4pm so no time was taken off our appointment. My massage room was very hot. Could not tell if it was because I was pregnant or if it was really warm. I was sweating. My husband said his room was fine. I got to lay on my stomach with special pillows which was cool, except every time my back was pressed on I was worried I wasn't laying right and my baby was being pressed on. Sadly 90% of the massage was being pressed on. Each time I felt my neck being pressed on I had a hard time breathing. I guess the neck pillow may not have been high enough. It felt fine unless I was being pressed on. I didn't say anything because I kept hoping she would move on to rubbing me instead of pressing, pulling, and shaking me. However, being rubbed was only 5% of the massage. She pressed really hard and my entire body hurts today, especially my back. It hursts worse than before the massage. I feel like I need a massage to recover from the massage. I had told her I wanted the pressure to be light and my last massage made me sore so go gentle. During the massage I said do not go harder than that, but she seemed to keep pressing harder. I figured she knew what she was doing so I didn't tell her it was too hard. Maybe I should have spoke up. I also didn't really like it when she added my armpits to the massage. I was also not a fan of my hair being pulled. I will have to look elsewhere for a relaxing massage. If you are into intense pressing, some pulling, and shaking then this will work for you. But I just want to be rubbed. Maybe I should be more clear and say I just want to be gently rubbed with no pressing, no touching of the armpits, and no hair pulling. Usually when I get a massage all I need to say is light pressure. My husband enjoyed his massage, but said he kept waiting for it to get harder. Kinda sucks because we paid extra for deep tissue. He said he would return. I on the other hand will look for someone else. read more

From the ambiance to the price, and from the service to the experience, everything here was first-rate! My appointment was with Katie, and she was superb! She's super sweet and did a great job with my facial and waxing. She's laid back and never pushed me to purchase products after my appointment. I've already booked my return visit with Katie. Oh! The spa also offers a 15% discount for anyone who presents a military ID. read more

Once again Yelp put me on the right path. I was feeling indulgent and looking for some beauty treatments with which to pamper myself and stumbled across the teeth whitening treatment offered here. It was a very short appointment, only about 20 minutes, but it seemed to work, my teeth are definitely whiter! I'll probably go back in a month or so for one more treatment. I will also go back for the package facial and massage package! The owner and her sister are lovely ladies, very sweet to speak with and charming and not pushy or snooty, like some spa people seem. They were so genuine and treated me so warmly that I've decided to throw some more business their way. I can't wait to make my appointment! read more

4.5* My friend and I came here for an afternoon massage on a Sunday. They were good about returning our calls to schedule the appointments. When we got there, we checked in and were immediately brought into the "relaxation room" where we were offered champagne, water, tea, etc. It really was a relaxation room with lounge chairs, pillows, blankets, and it just felt cozy. After a few minutes, our two female massage therapists came in to get us (Sarah and Stephanie), and they brought us into a couples massage room. Fast forward to the massage....I had Stephanie. She made sure the pressure was right since I was sore that day. I had a swedish massage and it was one of the better massages I've had in a while. To sum up...I fell asleep because I was so relaxed. She did a GREAT job, and I would totally come back to see them again if we go on another mini vacation to Monterey. I only took 1/2 star away because I am used to having table warmers on the bed when I lay down, so I did have a couple chills during the massage. Otherwise, it was great! They also offer waxing, mani/pedis, tanning, facials. read more

This place was great. I went here with my honey to get a couples massage and they were accommodating. They definitely paid attention to details and remembers the concerns and requests I had made over the phone days previously. We had put massages done by Sara and anther lady who's name I can't remember :(. They were attentive and made sure the pressure was right and which specific spots need more attention. We were escorted into the serenity room to get settled and relaxed. There was an assortment of refreshments that was a plus! Overall great experience. My Bf is hooked! read more

Charlene was so awesome. She made sure I was comfortable before the massage. She also took her time during the massage and made sure I was good with the pressure of the massage. I also had a facial and the facial felt so refreshing after. She really was attentive to what I wanted and needed. This is a really cute little day spa. Comforting and relaxing. I would recommend this one. read more

My sister and I were in town visiting the parents, when my back spasmed. I needed a massage to work through the knots and so we headed off for a couples massage at Elysium. The entry is into a living room that has comfy chairs to relax in while waiting to be helped. We were greeted by the manager and she led us back to a relaxing area, where we sat on beautiful chaise lounges and sipped fruit-infused sparkling. The only distraction from complete relaxation was the staff chatting in another room and a hair dryer sound. When that all died down, it was truly a comfortable, relaxing area with soft colors and fabrics hanging on the walls and dividing the hallway. Our couples massage was very good. I had problems turning on the table because of my back, but my masseuse was very patient and accommodating--pretty impressive since she was 8 months pregnant! Both my sister and I loved the body workers who did our massages. They responded to our specific needs and we came away feeling so relaxed and refreshed. My sister said her entire body felt light as air! We both pledged to return every time we go to Monterey. We both recommend Elysium to anyone, whether you've never had a massage or are experienced at receiving bodywork. Thank you for a great day! read more

When my husband and I moved here in Monterey last January, I was eager to look for a place where I can go for a facial. I checked online and there were tons that makes it harder to decide. So I had a recommendation from few people to try this place and I am very glad I did! I just had an Enzyme facial treatment today with Katie (my 4th time) and she always did a great job. We also had a couples massage few months ago and my husband was happy and very satisfied. The place is cozy and clean so it is a plus. I highly recommend this place! Also it is very easy to book online. You just have to register (no need for any credit/debit information) and you can choose easily what kind of treatment and it breaks down the price for you. read more

First of all if Lisa practiced closer to where I live I would go broke. She is an instinctive Massage Therapist, with the perfect pressure. It was literally the best massage I've ever had and her warm energy adds to the experience. My husband and I came here on our 3rd anniversary to kick off a Monterey weekend with a couples massage. Although we stayed at the Plaza ($$$$$$), I did some Yelp research and booked here and we were so happy with our decision. My husband was just as happy with Ashley as I was with Lisa and the whole experience really was special. I'm so grateful to these ladies and Elysium for setting the tone of our day/weekend. we'd actually had a rough couple of weeks and needed this. Thank you so much. read more

My first appointment at Elysium Spa was on a Mother's Day with my two daughters several years ago. I wasn't feeling great and seriously wanted to just stay home. They had planned a spa day including lunch. I truly didn't feel well. Cheryl gave me my massage. As many people know, a great massage can truly turn your body and mind around. I felt great and enjoyed a lovely lunch with my two girls. I have taken family members as a treat and now my husband and I go on a regular basis. Cheryl is consistent, professional, listens and discusses areas of my body that needs attention. She is part of my basic budget because the benefits have been great. The shop is very clean and relaxing. read more

I went to Sheryl for a deep tissue massage and along with many other things I did to pamper myself - she's the one that made me feel alive again! High tension problems and lots of kinks and knots- she worked so good on them. She's also very professional and thorough throughout the consultation. She remembered the areas I didn't like worked on and really focused on what I needed done. I'm VERY happy with her massage and I will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good masseuse! read more

My friend and I traveled from LA for a relaxing mini vacation. The owner booked us 2 appointments each, one for a scalp massage with Shae and mini facial with Any, and one for a package, a relaxation massage with Shae and an he facial with Amy. Literally just had the best massage of my life, Cheryl is REMARKABLE. I will come back every time I come to Monterey.

Cheryl and Alexis are great! My wife and I enjoyed the couples massage. So relaxed and rejuvenated.

I paid $100 for what? Who knows. She couldn't even tell me what she did when I asked. I got a "facial" that included a mask and mystery toner, but left there red-nosed, clog-pored, and devoid of sunscreen. Seriously, what aesthetician sends people out on a sunny day without applying sunscreen to the face on which they just worked? My skin looked terrible for a few days, and it wasn't one of those deep-cleaning, recover-to-fabulous facials. read more

Found this place by reading reviews on Yelp... Came out to Monterey for my birthday to receive a couples massage. Of course I came earlier to get the full treatment. When you first arrive you would not think that there is a Spa located in the building. It was located in the back of the parking lot, but upon walking in you can just feel relaxed. I started off with the pedicure. The girl was nice, I loved my mimosa's but I would say "Save Your Money" I felt paying the $55.00 for what they called deluxe was WAY OVER PRICED!!! Now on to my facial...OMG can you say heaven?!?!?! Loved it!! She was very nice and very attentive! My boyfriend arrived about 30 min early prior to our couples massage, was waiting in the lounge (which is very comfortable), but did not get a robe to relax in. This would have definitely been an added experience to our wonderful massage day. Pros: The couples massage was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! All I got to say is we will be back there again real soon!!! We live out in the valley and all I got to say is that we will definitely would drive out there just for the couples massage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Facials- what can I say ladies..We need to treat ourselves. I would totally recommend this for your beauty regimen Plenty of parking Cons: Pedicure was OVERPRICED for the treatment received. They don't have spa tubs, and the room is slightly small with not much variety for colors & kinda hurt *Robes not offered prior to massage service *Gratituty Envelops- I paid for my facial and pedicure separately since it was a gift from my office but put my tip on my credit card. I wish I was able to personalize on envelop and distribute my tip accordingly to services received. My suggestion to this establishment would be to get comment cards and let your guest comment after their service. This I think would help your business to know just how blissful you feel about your service and allow you to be proactive to comments on how to better your business other then someone writing on Yelp. read more

I planned a last minute overnight trip and decided to get a massage while I was out here. I am so glad I decided to do that. I booked a 90 minute hot stone massage with Jean and I was not disappointed! Booking the appointment was a breeze and can all be done online. I booked it the morning of and was able to get in! Jean was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and talented with those hands of hers. She used both hot stones and a ceramic hot stone bar. This was my first hot stone massage and wow, I will definitely be rebooking another massage with her! That was the fastest 90 minutes of my life. I was not disappointed or cheated out of any time! And if headaches are your ailment then please book with her! I was in town for some self care due to work stress and all I can say is I haven't felt this relaxed in a long time. Thank you so much Jean!!! She also recommended an amazing place for dinner! You are a gem! read more

Elysium - This is a beautiful and inviting place. The private room was perfect and the ambiance was perfect. - Day Spas Near Me - Monterey, California

Enjoyed a couples massage with MH for our anniversary. I got a prenatal massage from Melanie and MH got deep tissue from Shay. Location: We were surprised to pull up to a cul-de-sac of business that looked like quaint converted houses. We were glad to find 2 hour parking out front. Upon entering Elysium the place does seem like it was probably a house previously, but I think it makes it seem kinda homey and cozy. The environment is very relaxing and the decor is pretty nice. When we first arrive they brought us to their relaxation room and offered us tea, water, coffee (I was told they offer mimosas too, but for obvious reasons I stuck to just water). We were given several minutes to settle in and relax and they didn't rush us at all. (I suppose if you are on a timeline you could ask to go ahead and start if you are on a schedule...we probably relaxed for a whole 15 minutes before we got started). Massage: I really enjoyed my prenatal massage. Melanie gave me several options of prenatal pillows and positions for my comfort. You can do side-lying with a body pillow, but I decided to try the other pregnancy pillows that allowed me to lie completely on my stomach. It's hard to describe, but there were basically two pillows specially contoured to cradle my shape adjusted with a gap in between for my tummy to rest between. My head was face down in the typical u-shaped pillows they have at massage places. I never thought laying on my stomach would be comfortable, but surprisingly I felt relaxed enough to nap like that if I wanted. 3/4th of the way through the massage she adjusted the pillows in a way that allowed me to lie on my back semi-reclined with a large wedge pillow under my knees - no discomfort at all! I haven't a a lot of massages but this is my second one during my pregnancy, and I was impressed by Melanie's skill. She really seemed to know what she was doing and every part of my body seemed to have a very specific massage technique and she seemed to know just how to press on different points of my body to get the aches out. She was also very polite to check on my comfort throughout the massage and asked permission for if I wanted hot towels on my back or feet before doing it. The hot towels on my back and feet were a nice touch to the massage and she replaced them several times as they got cold. My hub's massage was enjoyable, but when he asks for deep tissue he likes the pressure really REALLY firm, so I think he didn't enjoy it as much as I did mine. He has wishes that she really really attacked his crunchy shoulder knots, but overall the massage loosened him up. Oh... I did my a bunch of research for massages in terms of price, and I think Elysium's prices are a good deal considering how expensive they are in most other places. Improvements: - The one thing that would have been nice is if they helped or at least offered hot towels to wipe the massage oil off afterwards. I'm not sure if that's standard or not but another massage place did that for us and I really appreciated it because after our massage we were set to head out for dinner and I felt a tad oily post-massage. Thus I had to just to a quick wipe up of my arms and neck in the bathroom with damp paper towels. - They didn't ask us in the beginning about any preferences or trouble spots so I was worried they might miss something I wanted, but my masseuse did a great job so I didn't need to ask for anything. My husband had some trouble spots he wanted specifically so if you mention them they definitely are willing to adjust and accommodate. - There was a bit of phone tag trying to make a reservation because whenever I called during the late afternoon I just got an answering machine. Maybe there's a better time of the day to call. read more

Maybe this was one off days but our appointment was at 5:15 and we were asked to come in 15 mins early which we did. But no one would open the door!! We waited till 5:20 and then started looking for another place. At about 5:38 they called me and said they were waiting for us???? Being out wedding anniversary we wanted it to be a nice relaxing day so we went back. They did say sorry for what happened and the staff was kind and polite. However as for the massage I really wasn't impressed. They concentrated too much on the hot towels rather than on the massage. I barely felt any hands rubbing me. Have been to many better places than this. read more

Elysium is the complete package for a place to rejuvenate and renew yourself. I've been to multiple spa's around monterey and since finding Elysium I wouldn't consider visiting another. Cheryl is very gifted and skilled! I had a wonderful massage here after a long walk on the beach. Everyone that works here is very warm, kind, welcoming, and accommodating. Cheryl knew exactly what to do to help me get relaxed and she worked on tight areas that I wasn't even aware was affecting me. She gave me some great stretching tips and really gave me one of the best massages I've had in years! The only problem is that the massage must eventually end :) read more

I had a 90-minute prenatal massage with Melanie yesterday. Amazing! She is so knowledgeable about different types of massages, and taught me a few things to avoid with home massage during my pregnancy (very important to go to a certified prenatal massage therapist). The lotion she used didn't smell, which is important to a pregnant gal. She checked in on how I was feeling, and had options for the massage (side or use body pillows). I tried the body pillows - so great! First time I've "laid" on my stomach in 3 months. I highly recommend Melanie and Elysium for massage. Plus they have a military discount! I relaxed as soon as I walked into the spa - the aroma, decor, lights, and ambiance are so inviting and instantly relaxed me. I arrived early, so I waited in the relaxation room, stocked with water, coffee, and mints. read more

Wow I was impressed!!! This is the first time I've written a review but I had to share what a great experience I had. I needed a message so I called a couple local spas I've been to in the past to inquire about booking an appointment and because of the poor customer service over the phone I decided to call Elysium. They had great reviews on yelp. Liz answered the phone and she was very friendly and informative. I was able to book an appointment for the following day. Liz welcomed me in and as soon as I walked in the door I was impressed. I felt relaxed right away with the warm atmosphere and aromatherapy scent. I was shown around and escorted to the relaxation room. I was given a soft robe and slippers and enjoyed a complimentary Mimosa. Liz was my massage therapist and she was awesome. One of the best massages I've ever had and I have had many. She knew exactly what I needed. Very intuitive. She incorporated warm pillows to loosen up my muscles, hot towels, hot stones and stretching. She wasn't rushed and keeping track of time like the local spas seem to do. I booked the relaxing massage, which was very relaxing but she also really worked the areas that needed more attention. I love the fact that they are a family owned and operated business. I met the owner Charlene and she was very warm and friendly as well. Oh and the prices are VERY reasonable. The only thing that I would recommend is to have warm aromatherapy neck pillows while in the relaxation room. I will definitely be back often!!!!! read more

Had such an delightful experience at Elysium. The massage therapists here are professional, and so good! My husband and I had a wonderful couple's massage, and I specifically had a prenatal massage. They had the right accessories to make my massage the most comfortable it could be. They were so accommodating, and even fit us in slightly earlier in order to allow a 90 minute instead of 60 minute. It was definitely a relaxing and clean venue. Definitely would recommend them if you plan on being in the area. We will definitely come back for a future visit! read more

My husband and I came here for a couples massage on our one year anniversary recently. We arrived a few minutes early, so we expected to wait in their waiting room until our appointment time. But no, they ushered us into their "relaxation room" and it was just that. They offered us tea, coffee, champagne or mimosas. We both chose champagne. We relaxed until we were ready, then our massages began. The masseuses took time to discuss problem areas with us and actually seemed to care. They were fantastic massages, and I would definitely go again. PS. We stayed at the Portola Hotel and Spa down the street while in Monterey for the weekend. We checked the prices and reviews of both spas and decided to go here...glad we did! read more

I have been their two times for massages. I won't go back. Both times I paid for Deep tissue and received a relaxation massage-if that. Both massages were terrible. Shame on me for not speaking up-both times. Another negative is parking. It's downtown, hard to come-by and timed 2-hour. When booking a 90 minute massage I always watch the clock so I do not get a ticket. Maybe it is a good idea when their staff is late, as mine therapist was, not to allow them to take prime parking in the front of the spa. The first time I went I was offered a glass of champagne which I thought was a nice touch, not this time. Basically I arrived and was directed to their little relaxation room and the front office gal went into the kitchen and chatted it up with another employee. I could hear everything that was said. Now I know everything about her personal life... read more

Finding someone who does a great Brazilian wax job is never easy especially for me as I am very particular. So needless to say once I discovered Katie V. from Elysium 2 years ago, I did not need to look elsewhere plus I have preference for hard wax which I feel less discomfort ! She always makes me feel at ease with her cheerful disposition which helps me relax as many might feel uneasy before an intimate wax job. I like the fact that she's fast & thorough but still maintaining a conversation to distract your mind whiles she's waxing. I love the decor, calming scent as well as the dim lights which all help create a relaxing ambiance ... not forgetting the ladies who work there are all friendly yet professional ! Was invited to wait in the relaxation room & all I can say is I love the place, the people & the services offered : ) read more
