I like a deep tissue massage and that is what I got. It was probably the hardest massage I've ever received. It did align me and my hips were feeling great afterwards. But my shoulder/neck area was sore for the next few days. I'm sure if I said something, he would have lightened up. The people there are very nice. They have long hours to accommodate everyone. My husband had a totally different experience than I did. He had music and a lighter massage. The thing is I would go back. They know what they are doing. Just be upfront about the pressure. read more

During a short visit in Monterey, we came across this foot spa in downtown, and they happened to have openings late at night (ie, 9 pm), so we gave it a try. The place was well-lit and clean. While they offered a range of massage services, we opted for the 30-minute foot massage given their business name. Clients are situated in a large room but they provide towels over your eyes to make it feel more private. The massages of the feet and legs were thorough and refreshing, and they adjusted to the requested level of pressure as well. Given the area, the prices were as expected, and we appreciated that they did open late so that we were able to go after our business event ended on a weekend evening. read more

Good Lord, this place is amazing. I booked a last minute 90 min couple massage, unsure what to expect because it appeared to be a hole in the wall. I was pleasantly surprised to have the best massage of my life. As someone who works in a stressful environment with a physically demanding lifestyle, this was exactly what my body needed. My husband and I went here after our refuge spa plans fell through due to no power . We went for the 70.00 90 min foot massage. Massage ok.. that's it .. but here's the part that was insanely obnoxious... we paid 200.00 our total was 140.00 asked for 20 back so each girl was tipped 20..... I feel that's decent ... the woman held the change out and held Tight and said give it all we need more and kept the money ... it was humiliating to them and to us ... rudest place ever and for subpar massage , clutter filled environment , it looks as if they are living there .... I did have one bad experience where the person doing my massage kept getting up to answer her cell phone. When I finally said something she stopped...very unprofessional. We were glad they were able to take us as walk-ins for foot massage/reflexology. My wife and I have been on extended vacation and would normally have seen our massage folks back home. We are extremely pleased with the massage at Monterey Foot Spa! Not only were the massages wonderful, the staff are very, very friendly and welcoming and their pricing was reasonable. If you're looking for actual serious deep tissue and to get pressed out, this is definitely the place to go. A no frills massage at a reasonable price if one hour for $65. My friend and I got massages here and we were both happy. If you're looking for a designer spa-like experience, this isn't the place. You have a couple of options to choose from and overall is very reasonable prices. The place is clean and well maintained. I had 1 hour foot message for $25 (what a deal.) If you are expecting a luxury spa with a trained professional people, this place is not for you but if you are looking for some stress relief on weekly or monthly basis, this is your place. We got a couple's massage. My review is based on my experience alone. So I'm used to Thai foot massage places. I think these guys are Chinese, so I wasn't expecting the same experience. Let's just say this was the worst massage of my life. There was no relaxing music, but more importantly it was painful! At first I was trying to suck it up because if you tell them to go lighter they overdo it and you can't feel anything. I finally have in and asked for less pressure but it still hurt. The guy kept using his knuckles over all my bones. He also had long nails that scratched me. I woke up with bruises and scratches the next morning. He didn't manage his time at all and didn't even get to my feet! How do you go to a foot spa and don't even manage a foot massage?! I want to warn people. I picked this place based on the glowing reviews and will never ever be back. read more

They're a non-descript storefront next to a parking structure, I almost missed it. I'm glad I didn't. As a periodic visitor to Monterey (we inherited a timeshare here), I'm going to make sure to visit the Monterey Foot Spa whenever I'm in town. Lisa was my therapist, she did a wonderful job, getting out my many knots and helping with my various sore points. This is a therapeutic massage, which means some of it may be a bit firm, but very worthwhile. They use a modified shiatsu technique with pressure points, as well as Swedish style longer strokes. Gave this location a try when up the area with my wife (for a wedding). The reviews were good, but parking was a bit of a pain to find. Overall, very relaxing session, but the person would disappear for long periods of time. The pressure was good and firm, and was great to get the kinks out of my neck. If I'm back in the area (which unfortunately is not very often), I will be happy to stop in again for a $25 massage. The place was clean and the price was reasonable. Typical tip at these places should be about $10 since the price is so reasonable for an hour. These are the same prices that I find in LA. I think they try to charge extra for credit card usage, so be sure to bring cash. read more

Their English is limited but there is enough to communicate the service. The cost is $25 for 60 minutes and $45 for 90 minutes. If you don't have these in your area, here is what to expect in your service: 1. Hot foot soak in a tub 2. Pressure points on face & scalp while feet soak 3. Foot rubbed really good in hot water 4. Excellent foot massage 5. The massage chair folds down into bed. You roll onto tummy & get massaged on back 6. Neck massage 7. Arm massage 8. Hand massage 9. Sciatta pressure points 10. Lower back pressure points 11. Leg, thigh & calf massage .. You do this with your close on. .. They do have 2 private rooms if you want a body massage. .. This place is clean and spacious. I'm sad to leave a negative review, because I honestly do enjoy the massages they give here, but something has to be said about the customer service here. This happened not once, but twice, and for me that was the last straw. The first time it happened was I had just finished getting a foot massage and I went to the front to pay. I was paying in cash so I handed the receptionist the bills. I was planning to tip, of course, but I wanted my change back first so I can see how much I could tip. However, the receptionist just said, $10 tip ok? And just kept all my bills. I was like... Um, okay sure. I wasn't too upset cause honestly, it was a great massage, and they deserved it. It was just a little awkward and as a customer, I would have preferred if I got to choose my own tip preference. The second time it happened was I had just finished getting another foot massage and I honestly thought it was too rough and a little painful. As I was paying, the receptionist asked if I had tipped the massage therapist yet. I said, No, not this time. (Mind you I have probably come here over 7+ times and tipped every time, so they know I am a paying/tipping customer). The receptionist continued to pressure me, asking me to tip. I again said, no not this time. She responded again "Just 5 dollars? Our workers work very hard" At this point, I just felt bad and I gave in. Now, I know it's common etiquette to tip, which I have been doing the last 7-10 times I've been here. But I just was not as satisfied this time around. The bombardment of the receptionist asking for tips just left an even worse feeling for me as I left. --- A few more things I would like to mention: I'm not sure if the worker's family lives here or something, but each time I've been here, I've noticed people like laying down napping, or straight up eating their Chinese takeout on couches feet away from where people are getting massaged. On more than one occasion, I could hear someone smacking their lips eating as I was getting massaged (gross!). Some of them are also watching Chinese TV on their iPads, which there was more than one instance where I was having a really nice foot massage and their iPad blasted Chinese TV on max volume. It went on for like a full minute and in my head I was like Uh... are you kidding me? People pay money to relax here. Again, I think the massages they give here are great and at an amazing price. I respect the Massage Therapists here and they are not at fault here. It's a real shame that I probably won't be coming back due to the uncomfortable atmosphere. read more

I came here on a girls' weekend and we booked 4 full body massages; unfortunately, we were all pretty disappointed with our massages. We had two women in one room and the other two had separate rooms. If you like a Swedish massage, then this place may be good for you, but unfortunately, it was not what we were looking for. I like deep tissue massages where they really work on your knots and use medium to hard strength. Instead, the fully body massage I got felt like someone was applying lotion very thoroughly to me. I asked the masseuse to apply more pressure and she did for a bit, and it was a little bit better but the massage overall was still not what I was looking for. The foot massage of the full body massage also did nothing for me; I peeked at the time and debated ending it early. It felt like she couldn't decide what to do and kept doing the same thing to rub my legs, between my toes, and pull on my toes without actually applying any pressure; she did the toe pulling on my left foot 8 times and on my right 5 times (yes, I was so bored and couldn't believe the repetition that I actually started counting). Even a massage chair would have done more. I wish I could have provided a better review, and we were really looking forward to the massage, but none of us enjoyed our massages here. The service was great - it was very easy to schedule the massage, and they were timely and accommodating, and provided a small bottle of water after. I noticed that a lot of the positive reviews were for the foot massage only, so maybe that service is better. read more

I just want to start off by saying, this was probably the best massage we've ever had, and we've had lots of massages. My fiancé and I popped in late at night on Valentine's Day and they took us in right away for a 90 minute massage. The space is very homey and clean, kept up well, and the staff was so kind and eager to be of service. And the massage itself... amazing. We were both blown away. I've never had such thorough and yet not too painful work done on my shoulders, back and legs. These people obviously have plenty of experience. We will most definitely be back soon. read more
