I just saw the business manager Julia's rude response to my earlier review, which said: "They literally put garlic aioli in the tacos.  That's right, the same garlic aioli they put in the burgers.  Who in their right mind would out mayonnaise in a taco?  This is insulting to Mexico, and is a shame to canada.  These people need a bit of culinary research travel." Julia claimed they do not put aioli in their tacos, which is wrong. I just viewed the menu on their website, and all three taco dishes they sell contain aioli. For example this one, cut and pasted directly off their website: "BEEF TACOS 13.5 Black Beans, Shredded Lettuce, Ground Beef, Tex Mex Cheese, Citrus Aioli and Pico de Gallo (3 soft tacos)" Elwoods IS insulting to Mexico and a shame to Canada - not only the food, but the managers attitude and customer service as well. read more

Truly the best place i went to, super great customer service and extremely friendly. Went out of their way to make sure my boyfriend and I had a good time. Their nachos i highly recommend, especially sitting outside at night in the lights, it's a lovely and not so crowded place. 10/10. Would go again read more

The daily specials are what's going to keep me coming back. 33 cent wings on Tuesdays, $6 ribs and fries on Fridays, $5.50 steak and fries on Sundays. Each day of the week has 3 or 4 special deals that make coming to Elwood's SO worth it. We were seated promptly, and our waitress managed not to look too astonished when 6 girls ordered 110 wings right off the bat. We finished all of them within 20 minutes, and had the people around us applauding. What an experience. read more

One-line review: Food deals and sports on television make this a fun stop. We've been to Elwood's a couple of times -- once to get the Steak and Fries (for a mere $6 each), the other to get the all-you-can-eat Fish and Chips (~ $12). The food was mediocre in terms of seasoning, and the fish was far too heavily breaded. The way it works is that they bring you fish and chips and you have to finish everything before they bring you more. This means you actually fill up on the fries (which, to be fair, are pretty good). The tartar, surprisingly, was an extra charge. My wife enjoyed her beers and even got a deal on our happy hour visit ($2.75 for an 11 oz beer?). The decor and attitude are casual. Service was okay both times, though not exceptional. Parking was free on the street -- welcome in pricey Vancouver. Bottom line: Not extraordinary, but I'd come back for the deals and to watch a game. read more

A nice and surprisingly affordable pub in the middle of Kitsilano. Parking is available on the side streets. The inside is a bit on the dingy side, but this is what gives it character. The place has been around for years. There's a small patio in front as well, but large groups (5 or more) would not do too well here. The biggest thing between back then (10+ years ago) and now is the addition of daily specials. $10 AYCE fish and chips? Sold. The tricky part about this deal, however, is that they pile on the fries, and one cannot order more food without finishing the entire previous plate. While it probably stops people from going too crazy on the fish, the downside is that piles of fries get wasted. Not sure why restaurants do this. Very wasteful. Subtract 1 star for this. With that said, the food was of decent quality. Other specials worth mentioning including $1 oysters (Fridays) and $6 ribs and fries (Saturdays). I'll be back to try these. One last thing - this place is open late (0200 everyday). Beautiful. read more

Updating my rating as of 8 months ago. Been going to Elwoods since before the location change (approx 2017). Usually I drop by at the end of the night to grab a night cap as it tends to be open later than most other bars in-the area. Food: average, typical neighbourhood pub Beer: below average, mostly macro pseudo craft breweries (Stanley park and Granville island). They have the odd seasonal from those breweries that you could potentially get a new tick from if you don't want to visit those garbage breweries. One tap from Bridge brewery which is also very below average. Service: bartender has no clue about beer. Does not know the difference between a west coast and east coast style beer (very basic). Pros: this bar now accepts credit under $20, they used to be cash only so if you only ordered one beer, better bring $$$ read more

TL;DR - try the duck wings on Tuesday (ideally with a group to sample as many flavours as possible), then wash them down with a sleeve of $4 beer Elwoods is one of my favourite bars on that little bar strip on West Broadway between Alma and MacDonald. The duck wings are really unique (I've never seen another bar that advertises them), and the variety of sauces make the strong flavour of the duck meat taste extra special. I've looked over at other tables on Tuesdays, and the tables having chicken wings just don't look like they're having much fun anyways. Sauce-wise, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. My personal favorites are the jerk and the Elwood's BBQ sauce. I've also tried the stupid hot flavor before (with a friend), but I ended up having to eat most of them, and I was barely able to finish those 8 wings with the help of beer and some Honey Garlic wings as "spacers". read more

I'm going to start my review off by saying that I have a really big issue with false advertising. Went here with some friends on a Tuesday night for their wing special. Online (see the screenshot I posted) it states that wings are $0.33 each. When we sat down at the table, there was a list of their daily specials which also included the $0.33 wings. However, the sandwich board outside the restaurant said $0.47 wings. But still, the website and the table specials said $0.33, so that's what we assumed the price must be. When we went to order, our server asked us what kind of wings we would like: chicken or duck. "You have duck?!" was the overwhelming response. Yes, they have duck wings. We asked what the price difference was: "It's 47 cents for chicken wings and 50 cents for duck wings." "47 cents? But your website and this menu in front of me says 33," I tell the server. She tells us that the prices went up a few weeks ago and the website hasn't been updated. She added that she didn't know why the old specials were still on the tables and proceeded to remove them from our table, and the tables around us. "Well, surely you can honour the 33 cents since it's advertised everywhere," I said. She responded with a firm no, stating there was no way for her to adjust the price. I call BS but I didn't want to cause a scene in front of my friends, so I let it go. We ordered quite a bit of wings: half duck, half chicken. She asked if we wanted any dip, so we all ordered one dip each. The duck wings were quite large and pretty good. We ordered one of each flavour listed on their menu, including the extremely hot wings. The flavours were okay. Nothing to write home about. That said, the oregano and lemon wings were terrible. Just straight up gross. None of us could eat them. Speaking of eating, their tables are really small and can't be pushed together. We didn't have much room for all of our food and ending up mixing wings together in one bowl, just to make more space on the table. When we asked for wet naps (naturally, you'd want a wet nap when eating greasy, saucy wings) we were told they didn't have any. Uh, what? They ended up giving us napkins with a bit of water on them. Finally, when we got the bill, we were all shocked to see that we had been charged $1 for each of the dipping sauces we ordered. $1? Seriously? Our server never mentioned that we would be charged for dip and it doesn't state on their menu that dip is extra. Of course, since they couldn't honour the price the wings, we figured they wouldn't do anything about the dip either. So instead of arguing, we just tried to get out of there as quickly as possible. Until they agree to charge you for the price that is advertised, I will definitely not be back. read more

Good and affordable bar in Kits! I've been to Elwood's a few times usually when I have friends who don't want to venture out too far from UBC. It's definitely one of the more affordable places in Kits with good daily specials. The place itself isn't huge, so I would recommend coming a little bit earlier in the evening if you want a spot since it does get pretty busy (and you have a large group). I will agree with others that the service is a bit spotty and slow (it's a pretty no frills experience). You'll pretty much always be waiting, even if it's something as simple as getting a glass of water. But given the cheap prices I try not to expect too much on the service side. Best deal I've had so far is definitely the Sunday special - the steak and fries (you can add other things such as shrimp for an extra fee). Great portion, super delish! Overall, there's room to grow but if you're looking for some solid cheap pub food in the otherwise already expensive Kits, then you've found the right place. read more

After a hard day's work on a Friday afternoon my coworker and I decided to try this place out. Since this was our last stop for dropping off their legs of beer. Coworker had the beef dip I had the rib and fries and we shared 6 oysters on a half shell. I would absolutely recommend any of these dishes. Everything we ate was either fall of the bone tender or fresh like the west ocean. Ashley our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and informative with a great smile. This is definitely a watering hole I would come back to for a the warm ambiance and tasty treats. Price vs Portion wise. Decent size portion of food for the price. Pretty much they have a special for each day of the week. Gonna come back Thursday for the $15 ayce fish and chips and Sunday for the $6 6oz steak and fries. Keep up the good work guys! read more

Elwoods - Chilling after work - Pubs Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Elwoods is my favorite last stop before home as the bar stays open until about 2am every night. I'll attribute it to listening to Hayden's Elk Lake Serenade album too many times: I've developed a keen bias for anything that reminds me of a woodsy cabin. It's unfortunate the patio can't be open later than 11pm although I love when the staff tries to corral people inside the tiny bar and close the garage door at the front. The salsa, however, is pretty much purified garlic. So if you're on a date or really want to speak to any human over the next day or two, it's best to avoid it. read more

It's a dive bar. The daily deals are really cheap. The place smells kind of like stale old beer though. To be honest, the smell reminded me of being in some old dive bars in Gastown like Funky Winker Beans or somewhere like that. Today, I had the all you can eat fish and chips for $10 and $2 beer. The $2 beer was Original 16 and not bad! Reminded me of the $2 beer at the Met on Tuesdays or Wednesday's at Joe's apartment. I can't complain about Original 16 because for a cheap beer it's pretty decent! The Fish and chips though....seemed like the oil was not hot enough because the fish and chips came out too oily. Like when you fry with too cold of an oil temperature it takes longer for the food to cook. But then, because of the length of cooking time, the food starts to absorb the oil. The fish were ok, but the fries were not. They have the opposite problem of another business nearby. Overcooked oily fries vs. undercooked oily fries. I'm sure that if the oil was at the right temperature, the fried food would have tasted better. All in all, I would go back to try it again. I'll report on it then. read more

If you're looking for a bar, and I mean a bar, as in a neighbourhood bar and not an Earls, then this place is fantastic! First class bar environment, excellent atmosphere, and a decent craft beer selection. The staff are also fantastic. Whilst reading the chalk-board-beer-menu the barman approached me to ask of my personal beer taste. Before I knew it I was offered multiple tasters before deciding on one to buy. That's attention to detail. This was my first visit to Elwood's (is it named after Elwood Blues?) and it happened to be on $1.25 taco night. Quite simply these were the best cheap tacos I've ever had. Hell, I've paid $6 for worse tacos than these. All in all this is a fantastic REAL bar! read more

Came in for the 33 cent mussels and that's definitely the most I'd pay for them. Small and the broth had minimal effort put into. Also our waitresses was pretty bad. READ THIS BEFORE SPENDING YOUR MONEY HERE!! -- If you call a good time going to a bar and being discriminated against by the bar owner and then asked to leave, Elwood's is the place for you. Last night I stopped into Elwood's to join a friend for a drink at the bar. Things initially were going well. The male bartender that was serving us was great. About an hour or so into our evening I had a female approach me where I was sitting at the bar. She had been sitting at another table. This female came right in my face and slurred the words, "are you a fucking cop?" I was a little taken back, seeing as I didn't know her and I had not been talking about work at all. I asked her why she was asking me. She stated "I can't fucking stand cops and they aren't welcome here, you should go." I looked over the bartender that had been serving us and he told me that this female was one of the owners of Elwood's, but that she was very drunk. At that point someone pulled her away from where I was sitting and spoke to her. The bartender was adamant that I did not need to leave. This female owner did come over and apologize at one point and I said that I accepted her apology. Although, after she walked away she could still be heard making rude comments about me being a cop. At that point I chose to leave. I think it's pretty important that people who are choosing to spend their money in this establishment know who they are supporting. I don't think Elwood's has any worries about any police officers attending their establishment again. Just makes you think... Insert another word into that sentence she said.. A minority group, a religious belief, sexual orientation or skin colour. I really wonder how far her discrimination goes. read more

Are you a drinker who loves to munch? Elwood's has your number. Elwood's is a little humble pub on Broadway and Trutch. In comparison to its pubbing neighbors (the Shack, Gargoyle's, The Fringe, Coppertank, Yagger's, etc.) Elwood's stands unique with its cheap pub eats which makes it a perfect spot for munchers. You always have to order drinks with your food order of course, but honestly if you can moderate your thirst, you can probably get away a filling yet affordable night. Alas, there is nothing extravagant about its food repertoire. At Elwood's they do the standards, chicken wings, tacos, fish & chips, burgers, steak frites. Come here on Tuesday for c39 wings, Wednesday for 1.25 tacos, and Sunday for $5.99 Steak Frites. In my opinion though, the best nights at Elwood's are on Thursdays. We are talking about $10 ALL-YOU-CAN-SHOVE-IN-YOUR-FACE-FISH-AND-CHIPS!! Nuts! So yes, Elwood's deserves your attention and money. My really only complaint is that the music can be a little too loud and the service can be a little slow on a busy night. read more

Dive bar done right. With leading edge interior design features like randomly strung Christmas lights to shoemaker wooden stools to a 'Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups' sign above the entrance, this place has taken all measures to repel the douche crowd. The always eclectic crowd of football players to PHD scientists makes for fun cross table word exchanges. They have wicked food specials like 25c mussels, 39c wings and $10 AYCE fish and chips. Their Bacon Bayou(sp) is damn good. Heck even the presentation surprises. I guess I'd call Elwood's 'refined dive', for the food anyways. Dives always win. read more

Jesus, Elwood's. I've actually been here thrice, for no good reason. It's a pretty standard pub, as pubs go. I tend to have drinks here after work, because they're open nice and late and are located across the street from my workplace. I ended my previous review of Elwoods with "So Elwoods, like the shmuck that I am, I'll probably be back to give you yet another chance in a few weeks." ....You've made a shmuck of me for the last time. Things were really turning around! $3 martini's, two very cute girls on staff, 'Buck a shuck' Oysters! I saw the specials board outside and knew you had changed. How could I stay mad at you Elwoods? Your canopy of L.E.D. Christmas lights was comforting; finally, things were as they should be, Elwoods was back on it's game. I ordered some of those oysters and sipped on my $3 Crantini, so happy that my all time favorite seafood was on special. I wasn't expecting them to be the highest quality, but I was impressed that they surpassed pub standard. Good job. And then I had another one. Why did I have another one? Pain radiated down my tooth into my gums and it felt like death. Accidents happen, I get that, and had there not been a consistent string of accidents with every single visit I've made, I would probably let the large gum-bleed inducing shard of shell that was mixed in with my oyster slide. Everything else was great though. Service A+, Atmosphere A, but I just can't forgive having had something razor sharp in my meal. read more

Had a random drop-in here last Friday. Was fairly busy but we found a table at the back. I am a rabid fan of the dive bar, and this fits the bill perfectly. Unpretentious, casual, friendly, but not in a sketchy, gotta hide my purse kind of way. The music is great! I guess I'd call it alternative, with lots of great stuff from the 90s mixed in. The drink specials are cheap!!! The food was decent also. Need to check out the donair spot next door as it is open until 3am. Have not seen a more perfect set-up in a long time. I really liked the large list of daily specials and, to be fair, the prices are very attractive. However, I was drawn in by the 33 cent mussels and wasn't blown away. Although cheap, the mussels were very small and the sauce was watery; the fries and garlic bread were excellent, though. Our server didn't really pay much attention to us, leaving our drinks unfilled, and she managed to mess up our order. It was a pretty frustrating experience, to be honest. Decor was pretty grimy - all it was missing was sawdust on the floor. I doubt I'll be back. read more

Yep, this place is, in my eyes, pretty much the perfect watering hole. From their daily specials, which keep me coming back, to the cozy tables and rad-tastic servers, Elwood's is always a good ol' time. Seriously, I'm here way too often. Every Sunday is $5 Caesars (doubles!!) and cheap steak and fries. They have beer for as little as $3, and awesome midweek pitcher deals. One star is lost here for two things: the godawful painted portrait on the wall at the back, of a woman holding a Jamieson's bottle in a super phallic manner. I have nothing against clever decor, but that is just obnoxious. Once, and only once, our nachos cheese hadn't melted and the chips were burnt. Regardless, I still reside here several evenings a week, and some mornings. They open around noon, and stay open until around 2 on weekends. DISCRIMINATION: unfortunately I have to report I just have been discriminated by an employee there. I called to order wings to pick-up. The person who answered could noticed that English is my second language since I asked "Can I order to take out?" and he replied ironically "you can". But the worse part was when he asked what type of sauce I wanted, and I answered "buffalo". The person replied "Buffalo is an animal. Not a sauce" and then he read a list of sauces and as I was trying to decide, he said he didn't had time to wait. I said "thank you " and hang off the phone. Any way, I felt it was incredibly rude to answer like that and thought about canceling anyway because of his attitude. I am sorry, but they just lost a client. It is funny he didn't understand the type of wings I was talking about as innumerable places called them Buffalo wings. And guess what? I just bought two orders of Buffalo wings from another place. read more

Elwoods is my go to place in the broadway area. The staff are always extremely friendly and there is always a nice table to sit at. They will come and check up on you, but if you want to be left alone they will leave you alone. It's really just the perfect mix of service and being alone with your friends. The food is pretty good, my friend loves the poutine (not my thing) and I personally like the nachos and their 30 cent wings days. The burgers are also really good.
