There is a drive thru + beautiful and plentiful spaces to sit with plenty of light. The staff and owners were so incredibly friendly. I had a latte with Cardamom and brown sugar. It was lovely. The design of their coffee cups is beautiful and suits the aesthetic indoors. And lastly, it was Easter weekend when I visited and I stumbled upon the most amazing egg hunt of my life. The staff hid plastic eggs around the store, and plenty. They encouraged us to find 1 each and I won a $15 gift card and my partner won a beautiful, re-usable glass. The gesture of seeing the owners give back to their community and seeing them welcome us passerbyers to partake in the fun meant so much. Everywhere I go in the world, I stop at local coffee shops. This was one of the most memorable of my hundreds of experiences.

Ordered specialty drinks outside after 3 p.m. Inside was closed so only outside menu was available. Two of our drinks were not as pictured on the board outside (a main ingredient was missing). We approached staff who stated only "sorry we are out of that." We planned to sit outside but there are only 4 chairs (party of 4) and one was dirty so we left to eat elsewhere in town. It was closing time for this business. The two drinks that were incorrect were VERY sour. I ate part of mine ($8 ea) but did not finish and we went to another local business and ordered a different drink for my spouse (tossed both of these in the trash) as she stated Her's was also too sour (and she typically likes sour). We decided to contact the business via social to request a refund. The owner did not take responsibility, blamed us and made false accusations. They stated we were refunded but given the name calling they engaged in and unusual nature of the message we received we told them it appears they must have confused us with another customer so I'm unsure if we were actually refunded. I let them know this and I stated they need to apologize and they then blocked us. We would never act inappropriate in any way. To imply so is insulting. The experience ruined our day. We will never again frequent this business.

First off, she won't serve anyone who is on their cell phone so make sure your pictures are taken after you visit. I appreciated this as it reminded me of my time in France where patrons are encouraged to stay, mingle and live in a world without screens. I wish we had more of this. Secondly, she doesn't have a cell phone. She lives on the island with a good old fashioned land line. Again, if you ask me, I love this for her. I told her that Mission Hill had great Yelp reviews and she giggled asking who is even writing about these things. All this to say, if you want to support local when in Madeline Island, this is a great opportunity, Mission Hill also carries produce such as vegetables in season and other local pantry items such as honey and syrup. There are all sorts of other items as well like beeswax candles, sweatshirts and board games. My husband ordered a regular coffee and I got a hot Americano with a shot of vanilla. Thank ordered a GF "wild rice burger" and they knew enough about their gluten practices that they knew to tell me the fries were in a shared fryer. They put it on a GF bread also. When I got my "burger" it seemed like it was just shredded beets mashed together in a patty shape. I don't like beets, but it was actually quite good. The aoili sauce that was with it really brought out a delicious seasoned flavor. I actually asked about for more sauce to eat with the beets that spilled out of the sandwich and she told me that it was wild rice mixed with the beets. The menu just wasn't very clear at all (I thought it would be ground beef mixed with wild rice! ha!) My kids split a waffle which they said was delicious, the bacon was tasty and thick, and the fried rice had really good good flavor with a good mix of texture (husband and kids both really loved it.) One thing : it was an order at the counter type place and they charged us the tip when we paid for the email upfront. Kind of weird but maybe something you have to do to get staff to work on an island in this kind of workforce. Total meal price was $64 for three plates and two coffees. A bit on the expensive side.
