What a wonderful find! On a road trip from Maine to Banff National Park and back, we happened to be in Michigan in the mood for ice cream and this is what we found on Yelp. And what a great find it was!! We got a few ice cream sandwiches: the chocolate, the mint, and the vanilla. All were delicious but we think the vanilla showcased the quality of the ice cream the best! The ice cream was creamy, thick, and had a perfectly smooth consistency! We also tried the cheese curds, which were probably the best we'd ever had! They were salty and squeaky and clearly made from high quality dairy. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area! read more

Another South Shore gem we found while bicycling the countryside! A self-service dairy store that offers fresh vegetables & flowers (seasonally), all the dairy products I could think of: Milk, ice cream, cheeses (including cheese curds) and other dairy products. You can see the barns from the dairy store-how much closer do you need to your farm? I recommend the CHERRY ice cream sandwich, you won't be sorry. read more

My family wasn't convinced, but I was determined to make this stop on our drive home from Bayfield. About a mile off of the Highway 13, this place could easily be missed. There's a small sign, and when I pulled into the driveway I thought "I'm not sure I'm in the right spot." But keep going. It's the small light covered shed on the right. There's one little room full of treats. And they're all delicious. My favorite was the cheese curds. The family loved the mint ice cream sandwich. If you're stocking up, there big bags of milk and large tubs of ice cream. Unfortunately we weren't anywhere near our fridge/freezer, so grabbed only snacks. The prices are extremely reasonable. I assume they don't get a ton of markup since they're not going off the farm and there's no employee costs. Fill out the envelope - love that they cross out the precious order and resume these - and simply drop it into the lock box. They've even got used grocery bags that you can grab to carry things home. Little eco-friendly touches that make add to the homemade charm. read more

Holy moly. This was INSANE. My boyfriend and i picked up the cherry nut, chocolate, and french mint ice cream and this was to die for. SO MUCH ICE CREAM FOR CHEAP!!!!! THIS WAS THE BEST ICE CREAM EVER! and the cutest farm too. WE ARE COMING BACK. Must go!!!! We are from Ohio:) read more

A treasure, this family farm overlooks Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay, just south of Washburn. For a $20 bill, we bought two gallons of the best milk I've ever had, plus two pounds of butter -- and had enough left to buy two ice cream sandwiches. (The cherry ice cream is amazing.) Tiny but worth the drive. These are my favorite cheese curds I've found so far! This place is small with limited choices, but the quaint nature of it makes up for it. Oh, also the quality of choices. There are three good sized milk coolers with skim, 2%, whole (maybe 1, i didn't pay such close attention), an ice cream cooler with three sizes of various delicious flavors and I've cream sandwiches, and a cheese cooler. I've only had the money cop I've cream but it was delicious. My husband is a big fan of the ice cream sandwiches. We haven't gotten the milk (also available at some local stores) yet. For me the big winner is the cheese cooler. The Muenster was delicious. There are several more types to try like the standards plus onion cheese, bacon cheese, etc. There are also a few meats to pick up like summer sausage. The big, big winner are the cheese curds. If you leave here without cheese curds you should be ashamed of yourself and really analyze all your life choices because clearly you aren't good at living. This place is cash only and you can't make change. It is entirely on the honor system, so don't be a jerk. But that's certainly something to know before showing up there. Love to stop at the farm store for fresh milk, delicious ice cream and the best ever ice cream sandwiches. All made from milk from the farm. They also sell a variety of local cheeses and some salami. In high season there is a stand right outside that has locally grown vegetables too! Pay on an honor system and BRING CASH. read more

My family purchase ice cream @ sausage and we loved these products. We even came back the next day to get more. We are visiting family in Bayfield and they recommended this place. To be honest, I was disappointed in the ice cream. I wish the vanilla had more vanilla because it really didn't taste like anything. The cherry ice cream was really strongly flavored with fake cherry taste. Also picked up a quart of the vanilla "chocolate cookie" which turned out to be just vanilla ice cream with the ice cream sandwich chocolate outside pieces in it. Nothing cookie about it. Overall, disappointed. I had heard rave reviews about it but won't be returning. A fun experience to see the place where it's all made on site, however. Probably the milk is great. read more

Man, where do I start. First, with the ice cream, no, the cheese curds, oh the milk, but wait the ice cream sandwiches!! Yes, the ice cream sandwiches are amazing, the mint ice cream was the best I have ever had!! We paid $2.50 for a quart! Are these folks making any money. Tetzner's was a really amazing find on our recent trip up to northern Wisconsin and we will know next time to save room in the RV freezer for more ice cream!! read more

Tetzner's is an absolute gem. Stopping by for a mint ice cream sandwich always brightens my day! If you're getting a tub of ice cream, I recommend cookies and cream, any time of the year. Their cheese curds are some of my favorite and I'm always sure to stock up on them if I'm heading on a road trip! Payment is based on the honor system, please don't try to cheat 'em. Be sure to have exact change, none of this trying to pay with a twenty for a $5 container of ice cream business. read more

Tetzner's Dairy is a family farm off the main highway. When you pull in your going to ask yourself is this just someone's house? You'll find a steel shed behind that house with sign Tetzner's Dairy so you'll know your in the right place. But understand this isn't a standard retail location you're literally on the family farm. You're going to hear the animals, drive in on a dirt road and see the barn with equipment inside. Once inside the shed you'll have all your standard dairy options. Milk, ice cream, curds, cheese and even cream cheese. While prices are on par with or slightly more than the grocery store I say so what. Get to know your farmer if you can as it is well worth knowing were your food comes from. Being from out of town I only tried just a few things. The Cherry Nut ice cream was slightly better than what you get in gallon pail at the store although cheaper in this case, sorry folks it's not custard :) However the curds are literally some of the best in Wisconsin. $3 for 7oz but totally worth the price. Fresh, squeaky with a hint of saltiness you don't find in most curds. Well worth the visit if you are in the neighborhood. read more

Living in the Midwest has several advantages - one being the best dairy in the country. While Wisconsin has been a sore subject with me, the State does have one really good dairy named Tetzner's Dairy in Washburn, Wisconsin. Tetzner's is an old fashioned dairy that makes great ice cream, milk and handmade cheeses, and the fresh products can be purchased on site. Moreover, everything is self serve and on the "honor system" whereby you walk into the dairy cooler, you write down what you're taking and you leave the money in a brown envelop near the door --- how cool is that? I personally recommend the french mint chocolate ice cream as well as the cherry ice cream sandwiches. If you have never had ice cream from a real dairy farm, you will never know how good ice cream can be --- and Tetzner's is one of the best. Next time you're driving across 2 --- take a right at 13 (right outside Ashland) and go nine miles to Nevers Street. You wont regret it! read more
