Fantastic! We were passing through Ashland on a Sunday morning and stopped for coffee and a pastry! We left with so much more! The pecan sticky roll was outstanding! Decided to visit the bakery after getting some of their red pepper parmesan bread from the Chequamegon Food Co-op. The red pepper bread was delicious! Soft and flavorful, it would be great at any meal or for a snack. When we stopped by the bakery itself, everything looked amazing. We ended up getting a lemon rosemary glazed cookie and a cherry almond scone. The cookie was very tasty with a strong lemon and rosemary flavor. It had soft texture with crispy edges, just what we want in a cookie. The scone was one of the best I've had! It made me wish I would have got another one for breakfast the next day. It was a pie cut scone and had a crisper exterior with a soft inside. It was also kind of lumpy in a good way. I like when there are natural guidelines to break apart the scone so you can dunk it in coffee and the lumpiness made it perfect for breaking apart. The flavor mix of cherry and almond was quite tasty and also provided a nice texture mix. Definitely recommend stopping by the bakery if in the area! read more

Another must stop if you are visiting or travelling thru Ashland. I have been a big fan of Coco's in Washburn but I feel the bakery at ABC blows Coco's out of the water. We arrived later in the day so some of their offerings were already gone but I tried a blue cheese and caramelized onion tart that was out of this world. Savory filling with a great pastry crust, I would order this each and every time. My better half opted for a scone and was blown away. Scones offer suffer from dryness but not the version at ABC. With a light lemon glaze, it was delicious paired with a cup of coffee that we purchased across the street (from Black Cat). A great bakery in a great town! read more

ABC turns out some very delicious bread & quite respectable pastries - its definitely not a "doughnut bakery" (much to the dismay of the touristy guy who came in after us). My mom insisted we stop here on our trip ino Ashland & I'm glad we did. She had a peach cinnamon scone which was without a doubt the moistest (is that a word?) scone I've ever tasted. I didn't really get much cinnamon but it was yummy all the same. I picked a pain au chocolat & it was "very good" - the pastry was more chewy vs. flaky but definitely fresh & buttery. Yum. The star here is bread - they have a few varieties available daily plus a rotating menu of creative flavors. Moms got a wheat loaf fresh from the oven & I'm not ashamed to say that we spent the ride home slathering the still-warm bread slices with locally made garlic herb butter (from the Chequamegon Co-op across the street). Delicious. It looks like ABC does a goodly commercial business as well - definitely the place to stop for gluteny treats when in the Ashland area. read more

Some tasty baked treats, including their "Delta Diner Sourdough" bread, fair prices, and good service at the counter. Stopped in here recently two days in a row for some baked treats to enjoy with our coffees from Black Cat across the street. I really enjoyed my almond croissant, but found the chai shortbread cookie nearly flavorless. The peach and pecan scone I had the following day had a great texture, but, again, was rather lacking in peach or pecan flavor. My companion seemed to really enjoy his lemon bar one day, and his chocolate croissant the next. Although we did not buy a loaf of their Delta Diner Sourdough bread there (because we went in for "treats" to go along with coffee), we bought a loaf at the local co-op down the street and enjoyed its flavor and texture back at home. read more

I recently took my first trip to Ashland. My husband is transferring there and we decided I should see the town that would soon be my own. Left to my own devices, I walked into Ashland Baking and knew that I would be perfectly fine moving from Kansas City to Ashland. Everything looked delicious! Not wanting to hear a lecture, I made sure to spend less than $15 and still leave with my arms full. First, I must say how happy I was to see pride flags up for Pride Month. I was a little nervous about moving to a smaller town, but seeing something that simple made me feel safe! I ordered a loaf of garlic asiago bread (I made it with dinner last night and couldn't stop eating it!), some French rolls and a s'mores brownie/cookie bar (the husband can't be mad about me spending money if I'm getting him a little treasure, right?!). The rolls were delicious (I got some whipped honey nutmeg butter to put on them, but was not a fan (I don't think I knew what nutmeg tasted like)). My husband said the cookie bar was awesome! The cashier was very friendly and didn't seem at all irritated with the quirky way I wanted me items packaged up. Sorry, I'm peculiar. To sum up, I love this place already and am looking forward to trying everything on the menu! I'll even accept free samples to keep the ol' ball and chain off my case! read more

I would not normally recommend buying bakery items and then waiting 2 days to eat them, but then again this is not a normal so and so bakery. Wow, tarts, biscuits, buns - all delicious, even after 2 days. All the biscuits and buns were twice the size of individual servings, so feel free to share, or save it for another day - it will last. Pain au Chocolate had a fresh flaky package with just a bit of chocolate filling, not too much. The dessert fruit tart crust had a unique taste that was provided by cornmeal, but still delicious (there were no other surprise flavors). read more

We're long time customers, not only of the Ashland location but also thru a co-op where we buy 1-2 loaves weekly. The quality is fantastic, but a recent stop in Ashland has put us off. We were treated rudely and then ignored by a member of staff that was way more interested in her phone than customers. I'm very hard to make angry, but the rude and dismissive treatment was enough to take the Ashland Baking Company off my list. UPDATE: the young man who was also working was very nice and helpful, a striking contrast to his coworker. Kudos to him for maintaining excellent customer service despite his fellow employee. read more

Not a fan of raspberry, until I had a piece and came back two days later for another. If we hadn't been on an eatathon on our trip to Bayfield, I probably would have gotten the half cake that was sitting there. Yum. Yum. Delicious. Son had best muffin (blueberry) we've ever tasted. Scarfed down half a loaf of garlic Asiago in the car - HAD to buy it - we could smell it baking from the farmers' market. Also brought back some of the cranberry walnut (thanks, William!) and levain. Did not buy the sticky rolls but tried a taste of both that and the blueberry orange one and they were TO DIE FOR, which is why I did not buy. I just wish this bakery was a bit closer (350 miles makes it a bit of a trip), that is my only downside about the Ashland Baking Company. I am in love with their cranberry walnut breakfast sourdough bread, enough so that I go out of my way to buy some every time I am in the area. I have had a number of other breads, and all of them were quite good. The last time I was in, they were out of cranberry walnut bread, but they were rocking out to one of my favorite bands (The Ditty Bops) which mitigated the loss too. read more

What a great bakery, it's an absolute must stop for me when I'm in Ashland. Mornings are scheduled as follows- 1. Coffee at Black Cat 2. Bakery across the street at Ashland Baking The croissants here are a heavenly mix of buttery and flaky magic, so much so that I bought them out on my way home this last trip. I also had a honey bran date muffins which was perfectly moist and chewy and so dang good I wish I had bought more muffins here in the past. Then again, everything here is so good it's hard to make a decision. Like most of the better bakeries in Milwaukee or Chicago, it's better to get here as early as possible because the better items tend to sell out quickly in the morning. I did encounter some uncommon problems last time around. The girl behind the counter seemed like she was a new employee, but I was waiting patiently in line when a very rude (a very uncommon to this area) local pushed her way past me, threw down a punch card and some money, and the girl gave her a muffin and her change without the girl or the customer acknowledging or apologizing to me. I blame the rude customer more than the girl, as she was obviously flustered by the whole situation to the point where she forgot to bag up the lemon bar I bought for my wife. This is definitely a must stop if you're anywhere close to Ashland. read more

We discovred Ashland Baking Company after going to Delta Diner and loving the bread we had with our breakfast. We went to Ashland Baking Company directly after breakfast. We loaded up on a variety of breads before hitting the road and I am really happy we did. We froze the bread and ate it throughout winter. Yum! Can't wait until I am back in northern WI and able to track down more of their bread to hoard and take home with me. Kealy at Ashland Baking recently did the wedding cakes for our 8-13-16 nuptials. Throughout the process, I never even met her face to face. We strictly communicated through email since I was from out of town. I did centerpiece cakes, therefore needing 14 8" round cakes for the tables. I explained what I wanted, and she hit the nail on the head with everything. My friend met her at the golf course that morning while I was getting ready, and when I arrived, it was perfect and exactly as I explained to her. And the cake, absolutely delicious. If you are going to ask her to do your wedding cake, I highly recommend the white cake with raspberry filling. WOW. I am sad that I didn't have any of that leftover...................
