My family was looking to burn a little bit of time while visiting Ashland before we attended a…read morecommunity event and so we decided to check out main street to see what shops might interest in to look. Since we have German heritage in our blood, this little shop caught our eye. As you walk you, you are jettisoned into a little piece of German heritage and fun. European candies, specialized kitchen gadgets, Christmas decor, or just the kitschy German/European gift, this little shop packs it all in. It was fun showing my kids the Christmas decorations and explaining to them why we have them in our home. They were finally able to put two and two together of why I put up nutcrackers, smokers, and Christmas carousels as holiday decorations in our house. Now, you might be thinking that I missed out on the most important part - cookies and chocolate (its right in the name). We did sample each cookie and their homemade chocolate covered marzipan. Each selection was super tasty and you could tell they were baked fresh and with love (and real butter). They took my back to some of the cookies my German grandma used to make during Christmas time - pure nostalgia trip. We even picked some cookies up to bring back to my parents so that they could remember by grandmothers cookies as well. Nice to have ways to remind us of people who have moved on. Fun store to look and to purchase a little piece of Europe. Its almost like taking a short vacation... almost. =)

We've had good experiences here in the past and are not ones to leave reviews but our experience…read moretoday was unacceptable. Ordered specialty drinks outside after 3 p.m. Inside was closed so only outside menu was available. Two of our drinks were not as pictured on the board outside (a main ingredient was missing). We approached staff who stated only "sorry we are out of that." We planned to sit outside but there are only 4 chairs (party of 4) and one was dirty so we left to eat elsewhere in town. It was closing time for this business. The two drinks that were incorrect were VERY sour. I ate part of mine ($8 ea) but did not finish and we went to another local business and ordered a different drink for my spouse (tossed both of these in the trash) as she stated Her's was also too sour (and she typically likes sour). We decided to contact the business via social to request a refund. The owner did not take responsibility, blamed us and made false accusations. They stated we were refunded but given the name calling they engaged in and unusual nature of the message we received we told them it appears they must have confused us with another customer so I'm unsure if we were actually refunded. I let them know this and I stated they need to apologize and they then blocked us. We would never act inappropriate in any way. To imply so is insulting. The experience ruined our day. We will never again frequent this business.

Yes, we had to wait since the ice cream treats were made by hand and there was a line of kids & families waiting at the window. I'm an adult and we can wait our turn. It was a treat to try their special of the day (in honor of the Superior Vistas Bicycle Ride) of Ice Cream Nachos! Glad we decided to split one-it was too much for one person!

Please allow me to present a contrasting opinion…read more To be clear, I love pie. I'm a pie over cake kinda guy. In part, my love for pie has to do with pie crust. And I do realize that reasonable people can disagree on pie crust styles. In fact, my wife and I are two such people. I adore an all butter crust. I love the flavor of butter and how those milk solids get all toasty up there in with the flour to delivery amazing caramelization, crunchy edges, and a crisp bottom. The missus prefers a more tender crust, and that is what Gourmet Garage delivers. So she was happy, but I was left wanting. I also happen to have a super sensitive palate to the off flavors that can emerge from something spending a bit too long in the freezer. My wife, not so much. So she didn't notice those flavors in the crust that further diminished my joy in the pie. L'sigh. We got the pie hot out of the oven. Patiently waited for it to cool down enough so that it wouldn't melt the plastic fork provided by the bakery. The off flavors were there for me at the start, and they persisted as the pie continued to cool down. While we saw the bakery used frozen fruit, as one must to make some off season fruit pies, the freezer flavor was most present for me in the crust. That was the biggest let down of all. After a while I just couldn't bring myself to eat any more. The caramel pecan roll was better. No off flavors. But on that I would have liked to see the roll itself be more tender. Perhaps when fruit season is in full swing and GG is hopping, the crusts are fresher and the pies are better. Regrettably this was not my experience in mid June. Disappointment with the food aside, service was lovely. While the pies weren't quite out of the oven when we arrived first thing in the morning, I deeply appreciated being advised how many minutes out the pies were from being done, and the bravery of taking a blazing hot pie and putting it in an open box so we could have one for the road.

It does a pretty big business for Ashland though, I've seen this place with a line wrapped around to the other side. You can also get ice cream cakes too! I'm pretty sure the same people own the one in Ashland and Washburn, so if you are looking for a Dairy Queen with chicken or burgers, you can just drive to Washburn! But, if you like hot dogs and are looking for a quick cold snack, this one should suffice perfectly. This Dairy Queen is also kinda cute.. in an old way. It really is just a hut like building on the corner of a busy street. You walk up to the window and the people inside make what you order, then hand it back to you. There is a couple picnic tables outside, and a couple (not too many) places to park in the lot. Other than that, there really isn't anywhere to sit and enjoy your ice cream. It is truly a stop and bring it home kind of place!

I have learned that they are also not open all year round due to the lack of an indoor area to order or eat so if it's hot sunny (not racing you might get wet) and u want some ice cream it will work out for you.
