The pale crust reminded me of shortbread, the filling light, sweet, and creamy, with what seemed to be Heath bits throughout. It was great and surprisingly not filling at all. As for the apple pie comparison, Betty's version was more cohesive a crust and easier to eat, but it was also surprisingly bland. The thicker crust at the edge was dry, too. The fillings from both bakeries were quite close, both good. From Betty's, we liked the cream pie slice much more than the apple. For classic double-crust apple, Rustic was best between the two.

The inside is so cozy and there's a bike shop attached. They make their own syrups and they are delicious!! And for me, part of the experience is slowing down to enjoy the moment. No small part of that enjoyment comes from drinking my coffee in a proper vessel. It could be a ceramic coffee cup, or a bowl, or a heavy glass, or a demitasse cup on a saucer. Different shops can have their own style, but if you refuse to serve a well crafted drink in something other than paper, that's an issue for me. Especially when the proper cups are right there! I see them. And I get that washing dishes can be a pain in the neck, but coffee shops can charge what they charge for beans and water because they are providing an experience. Sorry. Thanks for hearing me out. Beyond that, this place is lovely. The people are friendly, which should not be a surprise in Minnesota. The cortado was good, but hard to fully appreciate or evaluate in its sad little paper cup. My family was happy with their drinks. And the outdoor space is simply magical.
