‍ YE Gurl Says: Date Night Is Evolving, and I'm Here for It at Sur La Table…read more Gone are the days when every date night required the same formula: Dinner. Drinks. Flash the AmEx. Repeat. People want experiences now. That's exactly why the classes at Sur La Table fill up so quickly. Whether you're bringing a date, your bestie, your spouse, or just investing in yourself, these classes have become one of the more enjoyable ways to spend a few hours while actually learning something useful. For us, it was the Knife Skills class. And let me be honest. I own Japanese knives and have been slightly terrified of them. Instead, I've spent years using a little paring knife for nearly everything, just like my grandmother did during the Great Depression. She could peel, chop, dice, and probably build a house with one knife if necessary. Given today's grocery prices, perhaps she was onto something. Still, I figured it was time to learn how to properly: Julienne vegetables Create diagonal cuts Handle larger chef's knives without anxiety Stop recruiting the beau every time serious chopping was required Mission accomplished. The class was a great combination of refresher and skill-builder. The instructor kept things approachable while making sure everyone left feeling more confident around a cutting board. And here's an underrated perk: Class participants receive 20% off store purchases. Now, a small word of caution... Check your receipt. Because when I reviewed mine later, I realized that discount wasn't automatically applied. There are quite a few newer employees in the store, so make sure you mention that you attended a class that day before checking out. Lesson learned. Of course, no Sur La Table visit ends without a little shopping. I walked out with: A vegetable brush A scraper A peeler that immediately became my favorite kitchen tool In other words, I am now fully prepared to attack farmers market season with confidence and slightly more competence. YE Gurl Insight: The best classes aren't the ones where you become an expert overnight. They're the ones where you leave feeling empowered enough to actually use the skill when you get home. This was one of those classes. Final Take: Fun and practical experience Great date activity or solo outing Useful kitchen skills you'll actually use Opportunity to shop with a class discount Worth booking early because spots disappear fast YE Gurl Says: If you've been eyeing a class at Sur La Table, sign up. You'll learn something, meet interesting people, and maybe--just maybe--stop using your paring knife for absolutely everything.

Unfortunately, you're…read moreunable to enjoy your meal there so instead they instruct you on how to reheat or finish what ever you've made at home. I took the class by myself and had enough food to make a meal for 4 and have left overs. Everything was measured out for us when we go there. Only thing I really had to do to prep was chop the veggies. The teacher was informative. I think this class was really great for people who maybe don't have a lot of experience cooking. Or good for someone who cooks a lot but maybe wants to try and master a recipe. I've made pasta before but it didn't come out near as good as when I made it here. It gave me the opportunity to try out a pasta rolling machine with out having to buy one. Definitely worth buying one by the way if you're wondering. With our pasta we made a flavorful Bolognese sauce and a side salad. The teacher packaged up all of our stuff for us once we were done and sadly my vinaigrette didn't make it into the bag and I didn't notice until I was getting ready to set the table. I luckily had most of the ingredients at home or some variation of the sort so I whipped up a new batch but was not as good as the original. So highly suggest you check your bag to make sure it's all there. Also, you do get a 10% discount that you can use the day of class in store. Aprons were provided. I suggest wearing comfy shoes since you'll be standing for approx 2 hours give or take some time.

am writing to share feedback regarding a recent return experience at the Marshall's New Albany,…read moreOhio location, which was far more difficult and unpleasant than it needed to be due to the behavior of a cashier. I was returning two sweaters purchased online--one size large and one size medium. The large did not fit, and the medium was damaged (a button was missing). Both items were brand new, still had the original brand tags attached, and I had the receipt available electronically on my phone. Initially, I did not have my phone with me inside the store. Although the cashier was able to locate my receipt in the system, she stated she needed to see the receipt on my phone because it contained "pictures." I understood this requirement since the items were purchased online and did not have Marshall's tags. However, I was then incorrectly told that without the original plastic bags the sweaters shipped in, the items could not be returned. This was confusing and frustrating, especially since I had proof of purchase and the items were new with tags. When I asked what I was supposed to do, the cashier responded, "Honestly, I don't know what to tell you," which came across as dismissive and unhelpful. I ultimately went back to my car to retrieve my phone, after being told I would need to get back in line. After returning to the line, I unfortunately ended up with the same cashier, Kayla. I provided my phone showing the receipt, photos, and matching item numbers. At that point, the return was processed--but it was issued as a gift card. When I asked why, since I had the receipt, I was told it was because I paid via PayPal. When I asked where that policy was stated, Kayla said she did not know. To avoid having funds tied up on a gift card, I asked if I could return the items I had just purchased (over $100), then repurchase them using the store credit. She confirmed that I could, but questioned why I would want to do that. After retrieving the items from my car again, I returned to the store. At that point, I overheard Kayla discussing my situation with another employee in a clearly negative manner. When I approached, she stated she was no longer open, despite audibly talking about me moments before. Another cashier assisted me, completed the return and repurchase efficiently, and the transaction was resolved. While the situation was ultimately fixed, it required multiple trips to my car, unnecessary confusion, and enduring rude and unprofessional behavior. The issue itself was not the policy or the process--it was the attitude. Talking negatively about a customer within earshot, being dismissive, and making the customer feel like a problem was completely unnecessary, especially during a relatively slow time in the store. I understand policies must be followed, and I was more than willing to do what was needed to resolve the situation. However, courtesy and professionalism should still be the standard. This experience did not reflect that. I hope this feedback is used to improve customer interactions moving forward.

Holy wow. I've never been to this Marshall's'/HomeGoods mega store, but I will be back. My friend…read moreand I were both starting new jobs, so we stopped in to look for some office clothes, and we scored pretty big (note that we are both more in the business casual realm). We were in here for 3 hours! Clean, well lit, LOTS of merchandise. The seasonal section was huge. I never even made it to beauty or shoes, but they looked like decent sized areas. Anyway, if you're a Maxxinista, this location is the real deal!
