We visited as prospective residents, so I'll tell you my experience…read more This is an apartment building that was originally built to be condos. I say that because it feels more like condos than apartments. It's 1 large building in the downtown Des Plaines area. There really isn't much outdoor space dedicated to this building, so basically go in and go to your unit. There's not much community space inside either, except for a small gym. They have several different layout types and sizes for the units. We went into 1 model and loved it. It was really nice inside. The problem we really had was the lack of community and community space. As we explored other apartments they have more to offer to their community, have more community space, and more things to do. One last thing. This may be a good thing or bad thing, but they are pretty much at capacity with units, meaning they don't really have a lot of vacancies. If you find one available and you like it snatch it up because it probably won't last long.

I had a showing for a unit as I was looking for an apartment to move into. The carpets in the…read morecommon area were noticeably very dirty, and there seems to be a lack of maintenance and cleanliness. The person who showed me the unit also seemed to get nervous when I opened the kitchen cabinets and drawers. That put me at unease and made me believe they're hiding something (e.g., undisclosed issues) Overall, didn't have the best customer service as someone who was visiting the premise as a potential place to move to

End result I was reassigned a spot further away. After moving there was an issue with Comed electricity service. I Auto paid for a time when I no longer lived there. Between COMED and the apartment complex no one would help me with reimbursement.

This…read moreis one of those apartments with gut renovations, but everything was built poorly and cheaply. Everything fell apart the first 2 weeks we lived there and it was not of any concern to the property manager, 33 Realty. We felt almost scammed upon moving in because the person who showed us the apartment said that he would get any maintenance taken care of within 24 hours and that we should text him personally. However, once we moved in, he told us to stop texting him and that we should go through the portal. It's also not even that affordable. We found wayyy better apartments (with elevators and amenities) that were more affordable after we moved in.. It was a shame. They would've been better off demolishing the entire building and creating a new one from scratch (with new plumbing, central AC, and stable structure). The back stairway and entrance are always trashed with stained carpets from people's leaky garbage bags. Hallway doors are literally falling apart with cracks and screws loose/missing. Ceiling leaks on rainy days. The list goes on and on. Also, beware: RATS

Be warned by other one-star reviews. Welkin Apartments got worse over time. The gym is the best…read morething about this place. Cons: Too expensive The walls are paper thin High turnover rate Most balconies are shared Rent price does not reflect property value Washer+Dryer combo is outdated (more on this later) Weird ceiling lights you can't turn off Theres no kitchen island. It's just a table they provide for you. Pros: Location Gym Spacious 2 Bedrooms No bugs or rodents (HUGE PLUS) I work in IT and I'm lucky enough to work from home. I'm not too happy with the Internet 'amenity' offered here. Welkin Apartments has a partnership with AT&T that locks you into their internet service. Each unit features an access point where 1.) you can connect your own router to provide WiFi internally, 2.) connect to 'attinternet' and forego the router entirely. There is only one Ethernet port in the living room area. I use option 1.) since I run DNS, firewall, and other services from my router. If I don't use Ethernet, this option comes with a lot of connectivity issues. Issues that arise while I'm in meetings! The connectivity got so bad that I could not use my home router anymore. I was stuck with 'attinternet'. I had to call customer support so they could reset the access point. They claimed the access point was 'on for too long'. I had my router on for years w/o issue. Welkin Apartments switched the payment portal to a different third party vendor. They have a system were you can earn 'rewards' for paying rent. This vendor will request for you to verify your email, which isn't necessary to pay your rent. If you look at their terms of service, they are selling your personal information. THIS VENDOR HAD A DATA BREACH WITHIN A WEEK AFTER THE SWITCH. That means, everyone who switched got their information leaked. We got nothing in return for this breach and that's dispicable for both Welkin Apartments and that vendor Management tends to give neighbors with kids special treatment. If you have neighbors with kids that lives above you, then good luck because they tend to let kids run rampant and play indoors. Maybe it's something I'm specifically experiencing, but I've been noticing a 'culture' develop around this behavior, and the management for Welkin Apartments doesn't seem to care. A reviewer above me said that the garage door was down for weeks. This is true. During this time, Welkin Apartments left the garage door open all day and would close it between 8pm-6am. The Elevator also goes down monthly. The gym frequently runs out of wet wipes to clean the equipment (gross). Management for Welkin Apartments like to request these things that from its residents. Here is a (non-exhausive) list. * don't leave out door mats (I consistently see bikes, scooters, and other goodies in hallways) * don't walk around your apartment with slippers * move your cars for annual cleaning at 6am in the morning Welkin Apartments earned that one star. Maybe it deserves less. In either case, I'm dying to move when the lease expires.

In spite of a madcap rush of 40+ new residents caused by the abrupt closing of another "senior" facility up the road, management rose to the occasion over a 4-5 month period to get everyone housed and safely moved in. Toss in another round of Covid, the Flu and artic winter temps, the Holiday decorations were once again Rockefeller Center like. Residents long-term and new have blended together on a mostly joyful. and very friendly fashion. Management continues their top down approach to keep things running smoothly Access to top rated reliable medical care is always a growing need as we all get older. And when buying a house any good realtor will say.... LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION!!! This facility has it in spades as well as a an IN-HOUSE reliable bus service to get you to and fro. BDP SHOULD BE at the VERY TOP of anyone's list as a safe, extremely well managed plus welcoming home for you or your loved one. I invite you to read my previous more extensive reviews, or better yet call BDP and schedule a visit. A long term and well informed marketing team await your call. Again, I am in NO way associated with Brookdale and simply reside here as an 85 yr old slightly disabled male resident. 2 years now and still very happy!!! HOPE to see YOU soon!!!
