I say that because it feels more like condos than apartments. It's 1 large building in the downtown Des Plaines area. There really isn't much outdoor space dedicated to this building, so basically go in and go to your unit. There's not much community space inside either, except for a small gym. They have several different layout types and sizes for the units. We went into 1 model and loved it. It was really nice inside. The problem we really had was the lack of community and community space. As we explored other apartments they have more to offer to their community, have more community space, and more things to do. One last thing. This may be a good thing or bad thing, but they are pretty much at capacity with units, meaning they don't really have a lot of vacancies. If you find one available and you like it snatch it up because it probably won't last long.

Parking spot. When I first moved in I was assigned a spot. 2 days into my lease a car was parked in my assigned spot. This continued for a week. I kept advising management of the situation. End result I was reassigned a spot further away. After moving there was an issue with Comed electricity service. I Auto paid for a time when I no longer lived there. Between COMED and the apartment complex no one would help me with reimbursement.

Cons: Too expensive The walls are paper thin High turnover rate Most balconies are shared Rent price does not reflect property value Washer+Dryer combo is outdated (more on this later) Weird ceiling lights you can't turn off Theres no kitchen island. It's just a table they provide for you. Pros: Location Gym Spacious 2 Bedrooms No bugs or rodents (HUGE PLUS) I work in IT and I'm lucky enough to work from home. I'm not too happy with the Internet 'amenity' offered here. Welkin Apartments has a partnership with AT&T that locks you into their internet service. Each unit features an access point where 1.) you can connect your own router to provide WiFi internally, 2.) connect to 'attinternet' and forego the router entirely. There is only one Ethernet port in the living room area. I use option 1.) since I run DNS, firewall, and other services from my router. If I don't use Ethernet, this option comes with a lot of connectivity issues. Issues that arise while I'm in meetings! The connectivity got so bad that I could not use my home router anymore. I was stuck with 'attinternet'. I had to call customer support so they could reset the access point. They claimed the access point was 'on for too long'. I had my router on for years w/o issue. Welkin Apartments switched the payment portal to a different third party vendor. They have a system were you can earn 'rewards' for paying rent. This vendor will request for you to verify your email, which isn't necessary to pay your rent. If you look at their terms of service, they are selling your personal information. THIS VENDOR HAD A DATA BREACH WITHIN A WEEK AFTER THE SWITCH. That means, everyone who switched got their information leaked. We got nothing in return for this breach and that's dispicable for both Welkin Apartments and that vendor Management tends to give neighbors with kids special treatment. If you have neighbors with kids that lives above you, then good luck because they tend to let kids run rampant and play indoors. Maybe it's something I'm specifically experiencing, but I've been noticing a 'culture' develop around this behavior, and the management for Welkin Apartments doesn't seem to care. A reviewer above me said that the garage door was down for weeks. This is true. During this time, Welkin Apartments left the garage door open all day and would close it between 8pm-6am. The Elevator also goes down monthly. The gym frequently runs out of wet wipes to clean the equipment (gross). Management for Welkin Apartments like to request these things that from its residents. Here is a (non-exhausive) list. * don't leave out door mats (I consistently see bikes, scooters, and other goodies in hallways) * don't walk around your apartment with slippers * move your cars for annual cleaning at 6am in the morning Welkin Apartments earned that one star. Maybe it deserves less. In either case, I'm dying to move when the lease expires.

It makes such a big difference having someone in the office who's approachable & anything I need, the office is willing to help and any maintenance that comes up is addressed! I called and left a message and heard back from them the next day with an apology that it took them so long to call me back. I thought less than 24 hours was great! Riley texted me to let me know he was about 20 minutes away and showed up shortly after. He was quick and the pet screen looks great! I was very pleased with the service and quick response!

Toss in another round of Covid, the Flu and artic winter temps, the Holiday decorations were once again Rockefeller Center like. Residents long-term and new have blended together on a mostly joyful. and very friendly fashion. Management continues their top down approach to keep things running smoothly Access to top rated reliable medical care is always a growing need as we all get older.
