Loved this place. The food was just what I needed fresh and yummy. We got deviled eggs, salads,…read moresandwiches lobster bisque soup. Everyone was happy and thought the food was amazing. The waitress was super nice as well.

We ordered their special fruity yummy drink. It was good, but 3 sips at $10 or $12 and it's gone? WTF! Really. Look at my photos. Tons of crushed ice. Waste of time and money. Prime Rib sammy was good, enough for 2. We got 2 sides, one came with. Collars were good but coukd be better. Ive had better locally and in Firt Lauderdake. Grits were creamy. Added Salt/Pepsi to taste. So overall it's ok. I think they get away with medoicre Southern because there's no challenger in town thats this vibe. So you pay for the dine in atmosphere etc, but the food 8s all middle of road. Now, i will admit Im a foodie from a harsh location, Ft Lauderdale, makes you tough because we eat everything from all cultures, so you gotta bring your A game, and we travel alot. You can do medoicre Mexican in an suburb where only Mexicans come to clean house, so going to get a taco or nachos os badic in some areas. But we travel to where Mexicans own it, eat it, and barely speak English. Thats authentic. So it's true here! Its a great place for Southern Comfort food, but we are always underwhelmed with their execution. On the first visit, crab cake stack. Average. Devil eggs were basic and disappointing. Unsure how you cant do well on a basic dish. Creamy. No kick flavor. It would be nice is the could level up their execution. The menu reads great, but we are consistently just like "OH, ok. Descent." So definitely visit. Expect average, just ok. If you arent Southern, this will be great for you, as you have no reference point. Don't go in like you are going to be transplanted to the South. Its average execution. Like creamy cheese grits but nothing extraordinary. I've had grits in North Carolina, Sunny Pointe, you might eat a finger scooping up the shrimps and grits. Definitely worth a visit. Its famiky friendly. I think you pay 20% for the atmosphere. Ckean, cute decor. Love the twigs etc, branches. The porch sitting feel. You saw parents and kids, you could tell it's back to school. Today, 8/15, they were low on waiters. So took a long time for anyone to check back on us. But you could see other unhappy tables, one guy yelling at Mgr, so maybe some slippage in this upstart.

For openers, if you think the best barbecue is usually found in the worst part of town, in a place…read morewith bars on the windows, and just enough grease on the table to write your initials - then this isn't it. This is a barbecue joint (anyplace that serves barbecue is, by definition, a joint) just off the highway in Valdosta, Georgia... and worth all the confusion created when Waze takes you a block too far, and Yelp says they're about to close their doors for the day, which just wasn't the case. The Woodstack BBQ Tavern came into being in 2015 when three guys bought an old liquor warehouse with a monstrous photo of the Budweiser Clydesdale team pulling their famous wagon spanning the front wall. No deal if the building didn't come with the Budweiser mural. Two of thee three, Justin and Randy are running the place now and about to open another in Thomasville. For a guy who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue (read my more than 120 barbecue reviews from across the country on Yelp), this is a jewel worth all the confusion finding them and finding them open. Other reviews touch on the friendliness and they're right on... call for info (are you open, Yelp says you're about to close), to when you come thru the door, place your order and pay the tab, it/'s like your back home neighborhood diner. Lisa seems to be keeping things under control out front while folks in the kitchen keep the great 'cue coming. And at good prices. We had the three meat special (with two sides) for $28, but only after some freshly cooked, well seasoned pork rinds ($11 for a healthy serving)... Burnt ends (started by Arthur Bryant in Kansas City more than 50 years ago) were tender, flush with flavor and a great choice. The ribs were good complete with a validating smoke ring, but the best of the threesome we gorged on was the pulled pork. Some of the best the Brown Shoe Gourmet has enjoyed in some time. We skipped their fries (frozen with seasoning) and had their homemade chips (excellent), slaw (slaw that was just that) and fried Brussel sprouts for the one amongst us who doesn't understand that's not a legitimate barbecue joint side dish. She raved about them and made sure there was some left to take home. Go figure. Turns out we missed out on one of Woodstack's best known sides: homemade onion rings. Who knew? Sauces? Yes, three of them: a thin pepper and vinegar, a mustard based sauce and the traditional very slightly spiced tomato sauce - by far the best and worth buying. And while a lot joints now give you half ounce cups of sauce (or make yu stand in line to choose from too many (City Cue are you listening?) Woodstack puts freshly filled bottles on the table. What a novel idea - sample without holding uo a line- letting the customer decide which sauce and how much? A negative? There was one. No colorful tee shirt to add to the collection of more than 200. The dining area is spotlessly clean as are the rest room; the foods is really good and almost all homemade (they use post oak as is the wood of choice throughout Texas) and the hospitality, led by the smiling ball of energy that is Lisa, is outstanding. Five stars to Valdosta's Woodstack. We'll be back next trip south.

First visit on a Sunday in May. Our other Tallahassee favs were closed, and Ted (RIP) had passed…read morethe week before. Arrived and it was a crazy zoo of people waiting to get seated. Popular, maybe too popular? Anyway, scored two bar stools and sat down to watch the show. The cook line is right in front, and the bartenders have to make the deserts and fresh Sour Mix. Scratch kitchen, even the french fries, all prepped before our eyes. Bartender Justin could teach courses in mixology and multitasking. Amazing!!!! Justin was on point both times we dined there. Loved the Bison hats some of the line cooks bravely donned! Then there's the Bison. Got the short ribs. I could eat these often. Never had beef that compared. And, Bison is grass-fed and free range to boot, lol, on Ted's thousands of acres of protected prairie lands. Three months later, different day, same quality experience. For two people, take the bar seats with kitchen line view. Be patient and courteous, and it will pay off. Saw a lot of messy large parties and some entitled customers. Get reservations if there are more than two diners. Did I say they have the Bartenders make the deserts!? I would parse that out to speed up things. But...they want to be a restaurant with a bar, not the other way around. Thanks Ted, for all you did and continue to do. Peace my brother.
