There weren't many patrons dining at the time. I was warmly greeted upon entering and seated immediately. There is an outside dining area but I chose to eat inside. Lots of yummy choices on the menu, but I went with the Redfish (blackened), with gouda grits and veggies as my sides. Though the grits weren't as piping hot and creamy as I would have liked, they were still tasty - as was the redfish and the veggies, both of which were seasoned just right. Unfortunately, they were out of the makings for an Arnold Palmer, so I settled on unsweetened tea as my beverage. I will plan to visit again and try other menu items. read more

It's a Argentinian/Columbian inspired diner but the food wasn't very good. Churrasco steaks weren't the best cuts as they were stringy and they were overcooked and tough. The beans and rice were fine but the tostones were hard and fried yucca greasy The side salad topped with fruit was the best thing on the plate. read more

We were looking forward to this Saturday on the square. I had enjoyed the Rev Cafe that was at Goodwood in Tallahassee for awhile and knew they had some interesting things on the menu. Then I was lured by the weekend special: Crab Boil $33. Should have known better. Definitely a case of "stay in your lane bro" for them. Just awful. There were 3 crab bodies and legs and they looked like they had been reheated more than once. The leg meat was dry and came out in shreds. After my wife gave up I cracked open a claw and that meat was dry and crumbly and tasted awful. We advised the waitress that the crab was unacceptable and she didn't seem surprised. She said she would get the manager to give us a credit on the bill. $6.60 was the credit for the crab. $6.60 for the primary part of the dish. $6.60 when 1# of snow crab legs goes for $20+ in the market. So I paid $26.40 for a half dozen shrimp, 2 corns, some potato chunks with black spots and a few slices of sausage. Time to cut my losses, pay the bill and get away quick. I can accept a restaurant messing up a dish slightly but this goes to the heart of their restaurant culture. They knew the crab was not good but they served it anyway. They left the black spots on the potato chunks instead of cutting them off. Everything tells me they don't care which means I don't care to go back. Service was good. The outdoor space was comfortable as long as you can tolerate some traffic noise. Lots of other people seemed to be enjoying their food but I doubt they were having the Crab Boil weekend special. read more

My first experience with Rev Cafe in 2024 was nice, the food was fairly good and well prepared and presented. It's really sad when you go out of your way to patronage a local business and they show no regard for you trying to use their services/products. I called to place an order and was put on hold for 15 minutes. I even tried to call from a different number to place an order and no-one answered the phone. I had to listen to the person check out customers, laugh and converse with others while the phone was apparently just put down on the counter with no consideration for the party on hold. This shows that your staff are poorly trained, racist and/or just inept at their job ensuring your business is being properly represented. After waiting someone just simply hung up the phone, they didn't even take the professional approach to see if I was still waiting to place my order. EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - I even called back, and the same young lady (Addison) answered. I explained to her what transpired, she gave a very insincere and dis-ingenuine "I'm sorry" and asked "Do you want to place an order?" No Thank You. I am happy to share this experience with as many people as possible in the hope that your business will actually take their new customers into consideration. read more

My entrée was the fried grouper. And it was perfectly cooked. Could not asked for it to be any better. Rev was the perfect afternoon lunch a friend and I needed! We sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. I loved the meat options on the menu want if you want beef, bison, pork or chicken they have it all. My salad I added the grilled chicken with the peach vinaigrette dressing it was so tasty. My friend she enjoyed her bison burger. I think this is the 3rd time we have ate here. We are from Live Oak and had to go to Tallahassee and wanted to go back through Monticello to stop here. We get the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer every time. They are so good, and sauce that comes with it is delicious. I got the Georgia Kale salad and love it, that peach dressing is so good on this salad. My husband had the prime rib tonight. It was tender and full of flavor. He also said the asparagus was good and tender. We did have a little wait before someone came and waited on us but when they did everything went quick. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

We have had several different food items at the Rev Cafe over the past year, but today.....well.......not good. After we were seated, it took 15 minutes just to get drinks. After we looked at the menu's and made a decision, we folded up our menu's and put them at the end of the table. Usually this is a cue that the customer is ready to order. We sat there another 20 minutes until finally being asked for our selection. After waiting another 20 minutes, our food came out. I was under the impression that a chicken sandwich was NOT having burnt chicken fingers laying on top of bread with lettuce shredded on top. That is exactly what I received! When I told the waitress that the chicken had been cooked TOO long smelling like burnt cooking oil, she said absolutely nothing. "Most" waiters and waitresses I have known will offer to take the food back or offer to allow me/us to make another selection, not a single word. Even "IF" you were understaffed for this particular day, you should have told us and we would have understood but once again, not a word. And, when you are frying food in cooking oil, you might try changing the oil before the end of the day so the food will have a better taste. Folks, you can do better than this. read more

The young people that "took care" of us found chatting together and ignoring customers more important. It was not busy. There were two servers and a hostess. We were ignored for 10 minutes after we were seated. Finally the young lady at the door asked what we would like to drink. Then we waited some more and finally a young man came over to take our orders. All in all this young staff was inattentive. We had to ask for cutlery, napkins and later had to track someone down for drink refills. It was obvious they did not care about their jobs or the customers. Actually felt like we were bothering them. Too bad. I am generally a high tipper, especially for hard working wait staff...did not find hardworking wait staff here. read more

There's a lot of buzz about this eatery in Monticello. By way of reference, this is a town with about six antique shops and half a dozen restaurants. The town rolls up the sidewalks around 5pm. Rev Cafe remains open til 9. And rebels in other ways as well. It offers vegan items, gluten free options and if you choose meat, you'll select from venison, bison or beef. Interestingly, they skip the Coke & Pepsi products and opt for local, organic soda. There's quite a few choices to choose from-burgers, steaks, seafood, pasta, & salads. Our group of 4 started with an appetizer of fried pickles. We asked our server if one order would be adequate and she suggested it might be best to have two orders. Clearly, she hadn't seen the size of that appetizer. One order would have been more than enough. My wife ordered Shepherds Pie with beef, and a side of asparagus. She lived the dish. And took half of it home. Perhaps all the fried pickles did her in. The rest of us went for burgers. The Monti with goat cheese, onion rings & caramelized onions. Another choice was "the Good Ol' Burger" a straight burger with lettuce & tomato. Finally, the "My Boy Bleu", a blackened burger with blue cheese, arugula, tomato & caramelized onions. All the burgers were perfectly prepared. And even if cut in half, it's a two hander. The burgers come with your choice of sides. A couple chose grits, the rest fries. I'm told the grits were good (but loaded with butter & cheese). I passed on those. The fries side was a substantial serving, but they were served a bit on the limp side. Hot, but limp. They offer some desserts, but we passed. Simply no more room. We're told another Rev Cafe has opened in Tallahassee. It won't be long before word gets out. Rev Cafe is pretty darn good. read more

Have been coming here for years before going to show at Monticello Opera House and it was always fantastic. Last night was a different story. My friend ordered coffee and when she asked for a refill at 6:30 pm, she was told they ran out snd wouldn't be making any more. She said it made sense as the first cup had a lot of grounds so it was probably the bottom of the pot. The server was apathetic. My husband's jambalaya had a burnt taste and server responded with, "it isn't fried so how could it be burnt." Lastly, my friend and I both had shrimp and grits, a dish I've had several times before. It was $17.75, had three shrimp and the normally delicious creamy Gouda cheese grits had no cheese flavor and were very soupy. Very disappointing. Worst of all was the apathetic attitude of the server when these things were mentioned nicely. We will have to find a new place to eat when in Monticello. read more

On a recent Saturday, my dining companion and I headed out to Monticello, Florida to try the Rev Café. We'd passed this restaurant many times on our trips to Monticello, but always picked up food elsewhere and brought it home. The photos that fellow yelpers had previously posted were enticing enough for us to try breakfast. There were four items on the menu: conventional American style breakfast, build your own omelet, breakfast sandwiches, and grits. We were promptly seated on the patio and brought the menus. Our server delivered drinks in swift fashion and took our orders. I ordered a sausage omelet and my dining companion ordered the conventional American style breakfast - eggs, pancakes, sausage, toast. The person that brought our meals asked what else we needed. My dining companion replied ketchup and syrup. When that arrived, we still had to ask for silverware. My omelet was served with toast and a side of grits in a small cup. The meal was filling and the plate presentation was well done. My dining companion's meal was also nice on plate presentation, filling on meal and the pancakes were crispy on the bottom, which was different, but we weren't sure was intentional. When my companion asked for coffee, the server brought a second cup and remarked that was all the coffee they had for the day. No more coffee?? I was a bit puzzled and thought that doesn't bode well for any diners after we depart. We also noticed that each party they seated on the patio after us, sat down, and was promptly relocated for a imminent reservation for a party of 30. Wouldn't the servers and hosts have been able to communicate not seating folks here, only to be subsequently relocated? After the second party, a 'reserved' sign was finally placed on one of the nearby tables. The food was fine, the service was ok. But when I asked my companion if he wanted to return, he remarked "Nah, I'm good." So that about sums up the experience. Once was enough for just so-so service. read more

Tea refills were never offered. At over 3 bucks for a tea you would think you could at least get 1 refill. They never had good service but the food was decent in the past. So I'm going to start with my big issue... they don't contain their hair, and they play in their hair while they're working. This leads to me eating a lovely plate of pasta with hair in it. I HATE, ABSOLUTELY HATE, finding hair in my food. However, they were very apologetic and of course didn't charge me for the hairy pasta. The appetizers we had were good. So glad we decided to stop by during our drive through Monticello. Such a great little spot in town to grab a really great meal. I love that they offer vegetarian and vegan options that are actually appetizing. As a former vegan, I always respect a place that makes an effort for all types of diets. For those who eat meat they have great protein options like bison, beef, and venison. I ended up with a bowl of venison chili and it was absolutely delicious. My fiance got the jumbalaya which he said was very good as well. I really want to come back and try the burgers next time! They sounded really delicious. Looking forward to our next trip! read more

What a great restaurant! Good service and great food! This a one of the many gems in Monticello. Take the time to check this place out. There is nothing on the menu that will disappoint. The fried pickles, venison sliders, fried green tomatoes or shrimp tossed in aioli are a fantastic way to start off your meal. The burgers, steaks, specials or seafood as your main meal will leave you satisfied and wishing you could eat just another bite. Make sure you leave room for dessert! SO DISAPPOINTING... my husband and I have been dining at Rev Cafe every month for the last 5 years since we moved to Monticello. food WAS always fabulous. 3 weeks ago, we came in and my husband ordered his "usual" (14oz ribeye steak with 2 sides). the meat that was brought out was clearly not ribeye - actually looked more like a flank steak. there was no seasoning, no char, and was completely tasteless. we spoke with the server who mentioned that another patron had mentioned something similar. at this point, we expected a possible discount or at least acknowledgement from the kitchen, but ended up paying the full price for a subpar cut of meat and no one seemed to really care. my husband was very angry and vowed to never return. tonight was our daughter's 30th birthday. she remembered how great the food WAS, so we decided to give it another shot. Again, my husband ordered the 14oz ribeye and I had the redfish (which in the past has been excellent). instead of a thick cut ribeye, the same "flank steak" type cut was brought out with NO Seasoning and no flavor. my redfish was also unseasoned and so dry it was almost inedible. unfortunately we will NOT be returning and will try other restaurants for our date nights. we miss the great food and experience you once offered. The gouda mac and cheese had great flavor, but grease pooled in the cup it was served in. I actually poured the grease out of the cup. But, fried green tomatoes were great as always.
