I love planning our trips. Not only do I select what towns we visit and what we want to see or do…read morein each town, I also plan the food side of it... where we eat meals, any snacks or treats. I have it all written out, so we know where we'll be going. Kind of like... when in Rome, do as the Romans do. For me, I need to know ahead of time what that'll be, so we can do them. Such was the case with Wilbur's of Maine Chocolates. Don't remember now where I read about this place, but some blogger mentioned them with high praise, so on my list this place went. We made a point to stop by Wilbur's on our way to Boothbay Harbor (also in Maine for those who don't know), and we are so glad we did. This is primarily a candy shop... but it is so much more. They have other food items, home decor, gift items, and of course, lots of chocolate. We bought a couple of stuffed animals for our grandchildren, as well as some flavored sauces in a jar (to be poured over ice cream), and we couldn't leave without buying some chocolates ! We tried some chocolate-dipped orange rind and a few truffle flavors as well. Everything was very fresh and tasty. If I'm ever fortunate enough to be in Maine again, I'm sure we will stop here again.

This continues to be my favorite candy store in Maine. 5 stars for the offerings, the staff and…read moreparking. They offer more than my favorite chocolates. They continue to expand, to offer local Maine products, both food and textiles - it's a great place to go for buying gifts for people. Some of my favorites are shown in the pictures - I love anything maple and their maple malt balls are my absolute favorite! I love their chocolate covered products, pretzels, cherries, peanuts, raisins and blueberries and so much more. They sell Sweet Monkey Business shortbread cookies on occassion - they are the best in Maine for packaged cookies. The owner is very kind as well. This year (2025) my favorite purchase was the Candy Cottage kit! So cute and creative and it smells so much better than gingerbread. I loved it. Great for gift giving as well. Parking is great and there is an car charging spot as well if you are lucky enough to snag the spot. Not a super charger, but it's something. I hope to be able to participate in a special event sometime. They offer tours, and candy making events, like make your own candy cane. With that said, I highly recommend. Stop on by, you might see me shopping LOL

Best chocolate and candy selection in the area and supporting a local "chain" is the way to go…read more They sell treats and local crafts, shirts and other more "touristy" items. There are two floors, don't forget to check out both. Downstairs is the big window Jelly beally mascot in the window. The store is very crowded, as it's smaller and when there are a ton of people, it can being tricky to maneuver especially if you are looking to browse and if you have young visitors with you. The service, was ok. They were super busy and I'm sure it was stressful for them. One thing that caught me and my family off guard was the abrupt way our transaction was completed. The person was literally aggressively snatching the items to scan and jamming them into the bag. Once done, she pushed the bag towards us and yelled "next" to the customers behind us, I still thanked her and wished her a good day. It was not acknowledged....It felt odd and very cold compared to our experiences we have had at the factory store. Definitely prefer the other location and the customer service there. Again, it could have been because they were busy ...but it didn't set right with us, especially my little niece, who is 4 yrs old, who picked up on the vibe. I would have given the store 5 stars if it wasn't for that interaction. Still love their candy, especially the maple malt balls.

Needed to update this 5 star review with ANOTHER 5 star. Over the years the quality has remained…read moreand they continue to add unique items to the menu (like cheesecake stuffed donut sandwiches!) On my most recent visit the things I loved: *the service of course! *blueberry lemon cupcake. There aren't enough words to describe the deliciousness. The cupcake is filled with a blueberry compote (or something like that) and frosted with a lemon frosting. It's just amazing. AND if you keep it in the fridge and microwave it for 10 seconds, the filling warms up. YUM *maple frosted cinnamon roll. I've had their buns before but they definitely grew in size. Either plan to eat over 2 meals or share because it's ginormous If they ever have the ooey gooey banana bread cinnamon rolls, try it! So good

On the other hand, they've posted on social media to come try their newest fresh baked good, for me to drive over (I live two minutes away) and see a hand written sign on the door that says, be back in fifteen minutes. Forty minutes later, they still weren't back. I understand that we all have emergencies come up, but you need to take care of your customers and in those times, just play it safe and say you're closed for the day. After that incident, I don't go anymore, I have my friend grab me stuff when she goes, but it is good. Parking is fine, prices are okay, the vibe outside and inside is really cool. Give it a shot and hopefully you don't have a fluke. Really creative options.
