The apple cider donuts were so thick and amazing, our guests were so happy with everything. The presentation of the desserts was also gorgeous and right on point with the aesthetic of our venue decor for the wedding. Thank you so much Jess!

She was absolutely lovely to work with! Very responsive to emails and phone calls, and super flexible and helpful with pairing flavors for us. She made a variety of mini-cupcakes and frostings for our tasting and each were delicious--even the margarita cake! As someone who does not like chocolate, I would have eaten the chocolate ganache frosting with gusto. We ended up choosing traditional flavors: red velvet with cream cheese frosting for the bottom (12") and top (6") tiers as well as vanilla with chocolate ganache for the middle (8"). We had just shy of 60 guests at our wedding and were able to take the entire top tier home. She understood the type of design we wanted for our cake (very simple and clean, which required the use of fondant). Our guests enjoyed the taste, though they thought it was "a bit sweet" (probably due to the fondant). The style was what was in my head but not executed as cleanly as I would have liked--in the days before Pinterest, brides didn't have 1,000 images to show their baker, after all--but I was still happy with the price, taste, and service and would recommend her to friends. I'm pleased to see that she now has her own storefront. I have yet to visit, but plan to rectify that soon.

I asked him what was a favorite dessert, and he and the lady in the back told me the chocolate cheesecake. The chocolate cheesecake was so good! It was light and fluffy with a nice chocolate crust. My family split it with me and we all loved it. I was very curious to try the Dubai chocolate cup, and also liked it very much. This layered cut up strawberries with pistachio cream coating what seemed like granola, layered with chocolate. The chocolate was almost like a cool version of hot fudge. The pistachio cream mixed with the granola was very tasty. I have had the pistachio cream mixed with the kataifi, but Hailey's version was much tastier. Went very well with the fresh strawberries and chocolate. This bakery has other options besides the pastries, such as breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, and lunch sandwiches as well as smoothies. They also have a full coffee menu, including bubble tea! While the pastry selection was not extensive, they have several options of things to satisfy. The two items I tried were excellent and I will definitely be back to try other things, including lunch. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. Convenient storefront with plenty of parking.

We first visited Two Fat Cats back in 2005 at their original location, and it's been great to see…read morethem grow into two bright, modern industrial-style bakeries. On this trip, we stopped at the smaller West End shop the night we arrived, then visited the Portland Bayside location the next morning. We picked up a medium pumpkin pie, a bourbon pecan pie, and an individual blueberry pie for a relative. The blueberry pie was excellent--made with real Maine blueberries and a perfectly flaky crust. I usually go for their sweet pastries, but the cheddar scallion biscuit was a standout: melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The large peanut butter cookie was soft in the center and very tasty. Service at both locations was friendly and helpful. The West End shop has a small seating area, while Bayside offers more tables and (I think) a counter with stools. We got everything to go since we were visiting family up north. They do serve coffee, and note they're closed Monday and Tuesday. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Portland.

My partner was able to pick up a birthday pie right before closing, they were so sweet to let him in minutes before. We later realized it was a blueberry pie instead of the apple pie. I called first thing the next morning, and Jamie was so kind and helpful! She immediately set aside an apple pie for us to pick up. The pie was absolutely delicious and the service turned what could've been a frustrating experience into such a positive one. Highly recommend Two Fat Cats Bakery for all your pie needs! They truly care about their customers.

SPüN Bakery - Boston cream pie cupcakes with candles

I learned about SPüN from our community manager and also very much love their cinnamon rolls, but…read morereaaallly love their cakes. SPüN does a lot of variety of custom order cakes and they're so nicely done. My first opportunity was my SO had actually ordered a green tea cake -- it was so good I couldn't stop shoveling the buttercream into my mouth. This year I opted for a Boston cream pic cupcake selection for the Boston cream pie lover in my life. The inside was a yellow cake base with the standard Boston cream in the middle and a hardened chocolate shell over cream on top. I made a special request for some lettering and they came packaged in a box that allowed for complete stability of the cakes. I accidentally left them out in a cold area prior to serving but they turned out totally fine! I would have normally done a regular Boston cream pie but circumstances made cupcakes an easier option. Will be trying the full cake next time. Definitely recommend if you're in the area -- ordering, customizing, payment, and pick up were all insanely easy.

#LocalAdventureChallenge: I'm just gonna come out and say it…read more.. THESE ARE THE BEST CINNAMON ROLLS I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE (So please ignore anything I've said stating otherwise that was written before this review was.) I had been warned that these were everything and more, and that still did not prepare me for how epic they were. They're the perfect balance of both dense and yet they melt-in-your-mouth; the "icing" (whatever notion you have of icing, throw it away because that's not what this is but a word hasn't been invented yet for whatever is going on with these buns) is sticky and creamy and has a little hint of citrus. And I am not sure I can never eat another cinnamon roll again, because these have spoiled me forever (I was swooning so much the first time we had them that my partner let me finish his as well!). Also: their frittata? I haven't had anything that good since living in Spain. Big, filling wedges of layered egg, potato, onion, and veggies. I'm hoping this will always be available vegetarian! Also; I ate it cold. And with my hands like it was a slice of pizza. That's the kind of monster I am, but it worked out deliciously! Spün you have IMMEDIATELY become one of my favorite food places in all of Maine. Can I make my holiday order for a half dozen cinnamon rolls and veggie frittata now?!
