This store is a little tiny candy store.... just like one would expect to find in a small beautiful seaside town in the state of Maine. When I visited everything in the store was heavily discounted because they were getting ready for the start of the winter season when the store closes. I probably wouldn't have purchase what I did if everything were at the full regular price. The full regular price was kinda high in my opinion. The chocolate covered blueberries were very good. My purchase was one of those purchases where you say to yourself, "I'm not an animal. I'm not a pig. I'll just eat 4 or 5 blueberries while on the drive home." Well, when I got home, there were no more blueberries left in that darn bag. Oink oink.

As sweet as it gets The Orne Candy Store has certainly been around. A cool lady named Addie Orne opened it's door back on July 4th, 1885 and it's been selling sweets in Boothbay Harbor ever since. Back then the also sold fruit and other things that were commonly needed in the town but the Orne family quickly realized that the future was in sweet things. The Orne family finally sold the business to the Webster family in the 1960 but the new owners made a commitment to keep the business doing what it's always has done. Selling the best and tasty chocolates and sweets possible. The Webster family still is in charge and you can frequently see one or more of them prowling around the store. Always friendly and more than willing to tell you everything you could possible want to know about their history and the wonderful things they sell Of course the really push the fudge, especially the amazing blueberry fudge but there is a whole lot more here than just great fudge. An amazing variety of cool chocolates, salt water taffy, licorice and of course gummy lobsters. Most of the stuff is made locally in Maine but one of the Websters did tell me that a few sweet things now come from Massachusetts. Doesn't really matter everything in here is fantastic. They make absolutely no claims of healthy benefits and even have a sign saying their fudge is full of cholesterol and fats. A wonderful old store that still does what they always have done. Just give their customers the most amazing and tastiest sweets possible, without any compromise.

Friendly staff. Smaller selection than most but there's probably something for everyone. Not sure how much of it is made there.

It's ridiculously expensive at $20 per pound so I spent over $30 on taffy but it was great. The blueberry, watermelon, and peanut butter were my favorites. Blue raspberry (which is actually pink colored) was also good. I wish the pieces of taffy were a little bit bigger because they're quite small compared to the wrapping so a good amount of the $30 that I spent went toward the weight of the wax paper wrapping but the taffy is great. It's nice to have real homemade taffy and not that Taffy Town stuff that every other candy store buys when it all comes shipped from the same factory in Utah. Service was friendly. They should honestly be handing out samples of the taffy. They asked me if I wanted to try fudge which was alright but on the sweeter side but it's the taffy that was great. At first I only bought a small bag with a few pieces in it just to make sure I liked it, and I loved it. Taffy is soft and flavorful and real.

If you're in the mood for sweet candy, definitely worth stopping in. Be aware tho they are a bit pricey. I was looking for some maine made ites to bring home as gift and I bought locally made blue berry maple jam and a variety of locally made fudge and had small bag of candy and came in at close to $50 and I barely bought anything. Just keep that in mind. Other than the prices, its neat and well stocked. The staff was very nice and even cut the fudge in smaller pieces for me when I asked even tho theyre not supposed to.
