Time for an update after 10 years.
In the 10 years since I became the First to Review Granite Hall Store only four other people have rated it, and they've all given it glowing reviews -- that should tell you something -- it's loved by all who visit, even though relatively few are lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit this Mid-Coastal Gem in Round Pond.
At this point I've been going to Granite Hall for 25 years -- think about that. That's a quarter century.
What's changed in those years? Not much other than the upstairs being turned in to a nice additional product area. The biggest change is that the price of non-pareils (my favorite) have far outpaced inflation -- but they were the most affordable in town to begin with so I can't blame that -- they're still the most affordable.
Here's the low down:
1) The best penny candy around -- and yes, even in 2020 they still have multiple candy choices that are just a penny a piece.
2) Awesome old timey toys and stuffed animals including a unique dice selection and a marble selection
3) A great kitchen nook with interesting kitchen gadgets -- it's the place to find that perfect tool -- William Sonoma or Sur La Table could only hope to have such an amazingly well curated selection.
4) Amazing (are you seeing the theme here?) local themed gifts and unique things.
5) Undoubtedly the best place for a tourist to stock up on unique Mid Coast Maine stuff in Lincoln County and likely the entire Mid-Coast.
6) Above Average ice-cream by Giffords.
As you can see, one thing is not like the rest. The ice-cream is not as good as Round Top in my opinion but it's just that, my opinion. Most of the other people in my family prefer the Giffords selection of flavors and everyone loves the way it is served in a cone at Granite Hall -- with a "cherry" on top -- except in this case the "cherry" is an M&M.
Go visit Granite Hall, you won't regret it. Be warned though, currently they're only allowing 8 people in the store at a time so there can be a few minutes wait, but it's well worth it, and it's usually less than 15 minutes.
