Cool little place. The claim to fame here is their unique flavors, many of which I've never seen anywhere else. That being said, many are fruit flavored, which I don't like so much myself. Their more typical flavors are about on par with other local independent ice cream shops. I've heard rumors that the quality tanked after the owner left. Maybe this is why. I was pretty disappointed with my experience at Round Top Ice Cream Shop. The woman working the front counter seemed to be in a bad mood and was not pleasant or welcoming to talk to. It felt like we were bothering her just by ordering. Really tasty ice cream and sorbet. Line is a little long but moves fairly quickly - you can decide what you want from the huge selection while waiting in line. I had the rhubarb sorbet and raspberry truffle ice cream. The flavors were spot on! Rhubarb sorbet was so refreshing and the raspberry truffle was nostalgic and creamy. After years of boardwalk ice cream, jet-setting gelato, and local gems like this one, I have to say this might be the best ice cream I ever had! The texture was marvelous and creamy, and they were so creative with the flavors! You've all the staples, as well as things like the pancake and snickerdoodle flavors I went with. Service was quick, and we were settled outside with our food. The back porch overlooks a gorgeous countryside, with pretty trees and bright colorful flowers. I had to consciously slow down so I didn't inhale the ice cream. Sad I'm not local so I could enjoy this kind of treat on the regular. 10/10, would recommend to anyone! It is a small building that you wouldn't give a second glance usually, except for the famous Round Top sign. From the outside, it doesn't look like an ice cream shop at all, which really makes it a largely unexpected surprise. There are at least 50 white boards of flavors which ranged from my favorites Vanilla Custard/cherry Vanilla to Ginger flavored. The ice cream has a smooth feel and melts in your mouth. The Vanilla Custard flavor is unbelievable. It has a real custard flavor. I have tried about half their flavors but I am a vanilla gal. One of those places that never seems to change with the times simply because it doesn't have to. Just so many different flavors of home made ice cream, some ordinary and others different and special. Rich, smooth and so good that it hurts, I've had a whole lot of ice cream in my life but absolutely nothing has every been better. The place looks pretty boring from the outside and is easy to miss, although the mass of people trying to get the great ice cream gives it away in the summer. This is the type of rare place that makes memories. When people from other parts of the country think of their Maine vacations years from now they will always remember their visit to Round Top. When kids grow up and become adults they will tell their kids about this great ice cream place up in a strange little town in Maine called Damariscotta. Even though the outside isn't a much to look at, once inside things become really interesting. Lots of great old photos, signs and even a great old ice cream machine add a rustic ambiance that just screams rural Maine at you. Go outside and you get stunning views of the rolling hills and cow fields. A simple place that just cannot get any better. Unbelievably great ice cream, very friendly and cool staff, tons of history and beautiful views. Perfection is an absolute and the word should be used with great care. But Round Top is about as close to perfect as it can gets. read more
