Lots of renovations. Lodge is awesome. We skate skied on new groomed trail with lots of new snow. Downhill most of the 11 miles. Food and drinks were great. We took the snowcat back to Mt. Bachelor/Dutchman Sno-park and it was a great experience. Snow mobiles also shared the road/trail so it was great to go early on fresh snow and grooming. Lots of scenic views. read more

Nice place for a drive. But the restaurant needs a lot of help. There were mice running over our feet all over the restaurant. Cute little mice! Yikes. Not a healthy environment. We won't be going there for a while. Hopefully they'll get a hold on those little critters. read more

Terrible experience, overpriced with false advertising. For nearly $500/night, we were promised lake views on the website, you can't hardly see anything through the trees. Dirty, stained couches and rugs, five broken windows, one patched with plywood, no coffee or basics in the kitchen, and overpriced internet at $25/day per device. I love Elk Lake - gorgeous lake and views. And that's why it's popular. But geez - the price to camp? Insane considering there are no actual amenities. One water source, and port-o-pots, that are absolutely foul towards mid-late week. But the thing that most makes this a three star instead of higher is the prevalence of dogs. On leash, off leash, they're everywhere. I know it's very un-Bendite to have this opinion. But truly, not everyone thinks dogs are wonderful, and to have them romping and splashing. Can a person not have some space on the beach where a dog isn't shaking off the water? Can a kid play in the lake where dogs aren't pissing? Elk Lake people: either ban the dogs entirely, or set aside a lakeside area to the right of the boat launch for pups. We're sick of dealing with them every time we come over to the lake. read more

We normally have had fantastic service here, but tonight we felt like we were an inconvenience. We absolutely love this place and the food, but tonight the Bartender's energy towards us and her servers was extremely rude, negative and stand-off-ish. Also, typically you inform your customers of last call.... (And not snap at your servers for putting in drinks after the fact with a full patio). I'd like to start off by saying....I absolutely love Oregon especially Central Oregon. It is our second home. My husband spent his summers here as a child and through out his teen years. so now our kids spend their summers here. Beautiful views! Elk Lake is a stunning place. I recommend anyone headed to Oregon to go here. You can rent canoes, paddle boards, kayakes etc. during summer and enjoy the lake while breathing the fresh air and taking in with how beautiful this place is. They have cabins, camping cabins, cabanas, glamping tents, camp grounds, and RV grounds. during summer. I believe only cabins and camping cabins during winter....obviously lol or you'll freeze your a$$. The food is pretty good at their restaurant. Its' an historic lodge so it has that cabin and rustic vibe going. I totally recommend going here. read more

I'd only planned to pick up a box and keep running on my hike, but got stuck here for a double zero to recover from some unexpected mishaps on the trail. (Stomach issues, gear failure, and minor injury) Normal stuff: the food was great. If you expect resort prices, it's not too expensive and the portions are pretty big (couldn't even finish a few of my meals). Showers were warm. Sinks had water so hot it was steaming. All the taps I saw were potable. I could always find a flush toilet and an open outlet. No one gave me trouble washing my clothes at the faucet. I had no trouble getting a campsite. Found one w trees for a hammock AND my clothesline. It was easy to book a kayak and a paddle board to get some time on the water. It wasn't too crowded. I had time to read half of a book from their library, and I hope to come back to finish it sometime. Above and beyond: Absolutely every staff member I interacted with was SO nice. The staff VOLUNTEERED to help me out when they didn't need to, and when I tried to give them extra cash for it, refused even. They're just genuinely nice. One staff member even made a trip to town to replace some of my gear that failed, and that's just one example. And let's be honest, even friendly chit chat with guests is beyond the expectation. Taking food orders, everyone was on point w their follow up questions. They're pretty well practiced this late in the season. read more

Do not order the salmon add on to the salad. I don't what it was supposed to be, maybe smoked because it was dry and hard but it had no smoked flavor--no flavor at all. May it was supposed to be blackened, but it had no blackened flavor. It was just awful. Stick to the burgers. Staff was moderately efficient but our server was mesmerizingly rude--not normal server rude, just weirdly rude and abrupt, like we were just an inconvenience he had to deal with. I ate here twice recently. I decided to take a nice long drive and camp at Elk Lake Resort for a few days. The place was nice, right on the water and decent food. Camping spots were nice and cozy as well. The first meal I got the elk burger and it was really good. Second day I got the elk chili which wasn't quite as good as the burger but still good. My only complaint was the really dry cornbread and it was served with sour cream. I'm used to seeing butter or honey butter with it. Overall it is a place I would visit and eat at again. read more

Beware and carefully read their cancellation policies. They will keep your deposit (half of your rental fee) if you cancel under the 2 months out from your reservation, EVEN IF YOU JUST MADE THE RESERVATION 2/3 days before and planned to visit in less than 30 days. After several emails, I am happy to say the resort did make an exception (since I had just reserved the cabin) and agreed to refund the majority minus the $35 cancellation fee. I can live with that, and that customer service makes a difference. read more

And, the Bend area offers an assortment of outdoor leisure and adventure activities that is second too none! The lakes around Mt. Bachelor offer something for everyone - SUP, kayaking, swimming, hiking, trail runs . . . Oh man, the list keeps going. Elk Lake Resort must be on the top of anyone's ''must visit in central Oregon" list. With the restaurant and ice cream - as well as rental marina and easy boat access - it's perfect for a wide assortment of like visitors. Add to the mix, a number of lake-side day-use spots with picnic tables and water access - and it is a little paradise in the high desert. Do yourself a favor - visit Elk Lake. And get an ice cream and chicken tenders for the kids after a hard day stand up paddle boarding around the lake. Oh yeah, Oregon rocks!! read more

Poor customer service, asked for a table for 5 on the patio in the sun as we have our dog. One table left in the sun, all other shade tables empty but only high top seating for 4. While sever was wiping down the table and I was standing beside it waiting to sit another group of 7 came in. Server said I couldn't have the table anymore because it was a table for 8. I guess it's not first come first serve....we left disappointed. read more

This place was really bad. The cabin we got was creepy-dark and the staff did not give one F that we were there, or that we left a day early because of the creepiness of it all. We tried to rent a canoe at the marina after telling the office that no one was there, and they said someone would meet us there shortly but 30 min later we decided to give up waiting. We could not take one more night in the dark creepy horribly dated log cabin so we left. No TV, no wifi, they said to wash your dishes before leaving but no dish soap. read more

We rented two "glamping tents" for two nights - ~$500. The lake is beautiful and the restaurant (closed on Tuesdays) is wonderful though somewhat pricey. The tents include towels, linens, two futons, and a fire pit. A comforter is provided, but even in August it's not enough. Bring blankets. The campsite has no water source, but there are porta potties and a sink a short distance away. My biggest issue is with the advertised free showers in the lodge. In actuality, you must wait until 9:00 am to get access to a shower with minimal water flow, maintenance, and sanitation. There is one other shower which is well-maintained, but we were told it was for the boaters(?) only. When we discussed the shower situation with the person in charge we were dismissed with the comment "that's unfortunate". Camping, especially with children, is messy, and showers are necessary. Knowing what we know now, we will not be staying at Elk Lake Resort again. read more

Valentine's Day weekend 2021-This is the second time we have snow mobiled in and stayed the holiday weekend. Cabins are a bit rustic, but warm, dry and pretty clean. Some of the complaints from others, think people!! These cabins are not used by dainty, clean people. They are used and abused by people who are wet, dirty, and don't take their shoes off. Had lots of snow throughout the weekend. Snow mobiling was great! Five stars for the above. Three stars for the rest. Lodge is set up for Covid eating, we ate dinner Friday night as it was pretty empty. Saturday and Sunday were just a bit too full for our Covid liking. Cabin kitchens...the one time I don't have a wine bottle opener?!!! I carry one everywhere usually- purse, bath bag, car but alas we were with out. The kitchenette in our cabin didn't have one, so I meandered down to the lodge in hopes of getting them to open it. Nope! They wanted to charge me a bottle opening fee, when I stated I was staying at one of the cabins for the weekend, the waitress looked at me and said - all restaurants charge a bottle fee! C'mon, I'm paying a pretty price to stay at your establishment!! Why wouldn't there be a cheap bottle opener in the kitchens of the cabins, they are pretty cheap. Granted our spatula was held on to the handle w/ duct tape...so ?!Needless to say, we went the 'ol college route and pushed the cork in w/ a screw driver. AND, now I have a bottle opener in my snow mobile tool kit!! Only other issue was the bathroom was clean, lots of towels, but someone forgot to clean the shower- leftover soap and a wad of hair in the drain. Thanks to Covid, I had plenty of disinfectant and cleaners with me. Just no wine bottle opener. read more

Rode into this place while cruising the area on a rented snowmobile. Can't think of a better find after about 50 really bumpy miles. I had a bit too much food... elk chili, chili fries, a burger with bacon and even more fries. I came out of here about $60 lighter and incredibly full/hydrated. The only criticism I could even think to levy was that my bacon (all the pieces) weren't simply cooked, but appeared to have been set on fire until the flames burned out. It was so crunchy that i figures I might lose a filling, and it was absent most of that yummy flavor that makes bacon so good. You know... the flavor of bacon, not Kingsford. Bit... I wouldn't bitch about it (until now), I just slathered that bastard with ketchup & mustard. Friendly staff, happy customers, great food. What's to dislike?? I'm headed back there ASAP with a group for more of that chili. read more

We had lunch at the restaurant but when I got a bill for $91 for a bratwurst on a bun , a Reuben sandwich, and chicken tenders and fries for the kids ....also two very small glasses of wine and a beer for my stepson I was shocked. The $91 total came with a photo on an iPad with suggested tips ranging from zero to 18% and 20% I asked to see the details. It was then that I saw an enforced 20% gratuity I realised that had I added 18% I would be tipping 38%. This restaurant is a tourist trap so give it a miss if you visit Elk Lake, Oregon. read more

With family from both sides coming from out of state for the past 2 weeks I have been here twice within about a week. I first came to sight see the Cascade Lakes Hwy and stop at the resort for lunch. I forget what the rest of us ordered but I fondly remember the BBQ Pork sandwich. Served adorned with slaw and spicy sauce it was a damn good sandwich. I'll get it again, for sure. Our server was attentive and friendly; quite accommodating. I haven't spent anytime on the lake, (water sports aren't my thing and my pale skin gets dry, cracks and bleeds in open sun... just kidding.) so this review is just for the restaurant. Yesterday, my dad's side of the family visited and I took them back to the lake to get a refreshing treat to assuage the sweltering heat. It was in the low 90s at the lake when we arrived at about 2:30... Hot for the mountains. We asked to sit at some tables and eat our ice cream there out of the blistering sun. The servers were very nice and allowed us to do so since it was slow and between rushes. The lady who served us took our ice cream orders... all 9 of us. and even came with plenty of ice water and 2 growlers of extra water. She was under no obligation to take our order since the ice cream is served outside the building through a window, but she did so anyway. Great service and great ice cream from the local Eberhard's dairy. I'll be back with friends and family in the future without a doubt! Stop by on our trip down the scenic highway. Set out on the deck it had a great glass of wine and some chili Fry's. Wine was good fries were great service was even better. Young man that waited on us was very friendly and very pleasant. The view is incredible. A really out-of-the-way place but worth the visit. read more

We stayed in a cabin for two nights. The first night we woke up at 5am since there was an infestation of birds nesting inside the bedroom walls. The birds started loudly pecking on the house at 5am, and didn't stop until the afternoon. We complained, and they came and put a mesh on the hole where the nest was, unfortunately trapping some of the birds in there. The poor birds pecked for hours trying to get out until a few hours later when they just removed the mesh, and basically said they didn't care at all, and wouldn't do anything about it. The owner lady offended us on the phone and hung up on us. To top it off, the drain was clogged, and we had to manually plunge it and take hair out of it in order to shower. read more

Rented kayaks here. Lots of rentals available and a very beautiful place to spend an hour. Reasonable prices - $20 for single kayak for an hour with the ability to make it 2 without having to come back. Young guys working the rental booth were a little spacey - we asked if there was anywhere for us to change and they told us no. We discovered afterwards that there were public bathrooms in the restaurant/lodge. read more

We just stopped in for lunch today on our drive around the mountain. We had a most excellent experience. We had great service from Rich, very in tune and a lot of fun. Our food was excellent. We are locals (Sunriver) and were showing some of our California family around. My burger was one of the best I've had. Meat bun and smoked bacon fantastic. A serving of nachos more than we could eat. The Bloody Mary is the best in Oregon. We have been here several times each year. I positively do NOT understand these low reviews. MANAGEMENT TURNED OFF SOUND ON BAND MID SONG. What a way to NOT support local music! It was a free show but everyone paid for drinks and food, also... MID SONG. Don't hire a Rock/Funk band if you're worried about noise complaints (from ACROSS the lake).. Also when the crowd was in an uproar about this band being cut off mid song- the sound technicians- I don't recall their name, but WOW they were rude! Profanity and starting fights with defending their horrible actions. The sound technicians are in fact responsible for the loudness of the music. read more

My husband & I decided to go out for dinner & celebrate, we seen mywindow show & thought we would go local. I called ahead to make sure they were going to have the Friday special of prime rib. I thought I was speaking with the owner & she reassured me they would & she said she would make sure to let the chef know. When we arrived for dinner expecting prime rib the waitress(chelsee)was new & went & checked, coming back with bad news saying there was no prime rib. I stayed my disappointment & told her that was the only reason why we came. Chelsee said the owner was there & would pass on the message. I expected the owner to come out & greet us but nothing. The service was wonderful but if you go there with expectations you will be greatly disappointed! The drinks were poorly made & the food was expensive for a typical hamburger. We stayed for four nights with multiple families in cabins 20 & 19. We were all pretty disappointed at how run down the cabins are for the price of 199.00/night. Then cabin 20 had an infestation of mice, which we let the front desk know about. Their answer was, "oh usually its squirrls." There were holes all over the cabins, inside and out. Looked like they may have filled them with sprayfoam and painted over them. The showerhead in our cabin was a mere trickle. A pain if you have thick hair! Bedroom doors would not close and door knobs were falling off, but nothing a steak knife couldn't fix. Cabin 19 wasn't any better. The place was so dusty out and around the cabins! It coated everything, the resort should put some gravel down to help alleviate some of the dust trekked into the cabins. Then the parking! The cabins we rented were side by side. The way the cabins were situated you would assume you could park vehicles side by side in between the cabins. However, that is not the case. The cabin right below us had the parking spot next to cabin 19 which also extends pass the cabins so makes for less play area in between the cabins for the kids; not to mention felt a bit like they were intruding. With that overall experience our time by the lake was wonderful. We rented the day dock, which was something different and fun. We were able to BBQ on the dock and had a total of 14 people enjoy an evening dinner on the lake. We also rented a couple kayaks and paddleboards. Created great memories for the family! Nice area, picturesque lake, but disappointing lodging. read more

The lake is nice, if not a bit overcrowded. We did not stay at the resort, it do eat at the restaurant. Be careful. The salads suck. They taste of refrigerator, are dried out and cost $18. We ate here on a Sunday. Maybe they prepped the food a few days earlier? I don't know. But I do know we won't make this mistake again. read more

This was our first time visiting Elk Lake and we were very disappointed. We brought a fishing boat and we are residents of Bend and heard good things prior to our visit. We were charged $10 to use the boat ramp which is falling apart and only allows one user at a time due to an abrupt edge (at least 1' drop off the concrete into the water). I would expect a well maintained ramp to pay $10 to use a boat ramp for a few minutes. The porta potties were not serviced all day ( a busy Friday) and there was no hand sanitizer all day (arrived at 11am). Upon going into the restaurant/store they also reported the bathrooms were being serviced and unavailable. Also, the parking is not ideal, good luck with a large vehicle or boat. Again, we are very disappointed with the services they charged for but failed to provide. We do not plan to come back unless things change. I would appreciate to hear back from a manager regarding these manners. read more

Once I got over my irrational fear that a giant lake monster would unhinge its jaws from the depths and swallow me whole, I decided to rent a paddleboard and take it out. This review is for paddleboard rentals. A number of water sports equipment rentals are available right alongside the lake. I found the 2 hippy-ish kids running it charming, and the $20 an hour rate a good deal, although I have no idea how they were tracking people's time with rentals as it seemed a tad unorganized. The equipment was new and in good shape, and one of the employees helpfully showed me how to use it. As a brand new, never-before-paddleboarded, scrawny woman with no arm strength, I found paddleboarding to be relaxing and pleasant. Plus, there is something breathtaking about floating on top of a pristine lake, in the middle of July, looking straight ahead at a snow-capped mountain. So worth it. We were vacationing in Sunriver and decided to try our luck and go up for the day. Simply put, an OUTSTANDING day and in large part due to the outstanding resort staff. We were not guests of the resort, only visiting for the day and they all were wonderful, kind, helpful and treated us as if we had been there all weekend. We will be back to not only enjoy another day, but to rent one of their cottages for a few days. Wonderful venue, amazing lake, great beaches, super easy gear rentals and prices.
