I was looking to buy mason jars and I compared Amazon, Target.. and I saw that Ace Hardware also had them but cheaper! I thought I would just stop by on my way home and buy it then.. I stopped at this Ace Hardware in Elk Grove. It's a couple stores down from Trader Joe's and it was clean and organized like you would think the store had just opened for the day but it was actually near closing. An employee asked if they could help, they pointed me in the right direction and I saw the price didn't match what I saw online. So, I pulled out my phone to see what I saw earlier-- the price online was cheaper. I stood there ordering pick up online so I could pay the cheaper price and the employee that helped me when I came in confirmed-- yes, that happens a lot. Online prices are cheaper. My online order was to be ready for pick up in 15 minutes. It was less than that when they got the order and let me know and brought it to the front cashier where I showed my ID and signed that I picked it up. For the clean store and the helpful and kind staff, I give this place 4 stars. And, now I know to compare with online prices with the in-store price. read more

This is the place Joe K and I would go to, to actually find what we were looking for! While other hardware stores would be either out of something or so disorganized, that an item was hard to locate. This store is rarely a disappointment. They seem to have just about everything one would need in stock for the home and garden. If you can't find it, helpful and friendly staff are always on the ball to point us in the right direction. I can't reiterate how this Ace Hardware is a breath of fresh air! Very spacious, clean, organized, and well stocked, with staff members offering to help! I always enjoy my visits here, and finding myself strolling down the aisles, checking prices and making mental notes about what I will need in the future. This hardware store is located in the shopping center with Kohl's and Trader Joe's. I find this store really convenient to come into when I'm in the area to run in and get something quick. The closest Ace Hardware in my Sacramento neighborhood closed down recently so my quick local trips are not so easy now. This store is well-stocked with pretty much what you need in a relatively small footprint. They have a large outdoor grill/smoker selection, custom paint center, tools, comprehensive garden fountain selection and good range of soil amendments in their outdoor side yard. There is a quick check out process which I appreciate. As typical with Ace Hardware the prices are not cheap. Selection is also more limited. You may not get a good range of sizes/prices on something, but you pay for the convenience of running in and out. For example I recently got a very small container of O'Henry roofing patch for $25 and found later that I could have gotten an upgraded rubberized formula in a five gallon container at Home Depot for $70. Ouch. My other complaint is that hardware stores today usually do not have small parts/screws/nuts/bolts, etc. you can look at and buy individually. Everything is prepackaged, priced at a premium, and often low quality imports. I am usually asked if I need help here and it is offered promptly, but I've noticed that they have lots of eyes on the ground to limit shoplifting and walking around unchaperoned with out a staff member is apparently verboten. You will never feel comfortable browsing here. It's definitely a store I want to get in and out of quickly, but thanks to the way the store is designed that's exactly what I do. read more

Never been in an Ace. Usually go to Lowe's or HD, which both are way closer to me but I needed BM paint. Went in yesterday morning. Noticed there were "plenty" of employees around. Two gentlemen talking and one greeted the moment I walked in. Asked if I needed help but told him I was there for paint and proceeded to where I needed to go. The person at the paint desk was fast, efficient, knowledgeable and answered my random questions. Other than possibly being the only minority there, they could use a bit of diversity in their employees. Probably won't step foot into another Ace until I need more paint. Oh, as a baker, I found it quite interesting they had a freezer of frozen pies to take home and bake. Almost grabbed one. :-) read more

I've been here a handful of times. It is located in a shared parking lot as Trader Joe's, America' Tires, Tilly's, and other shops. They sell just about everything! Paint and all the essentials that go with that! Hardware, electrical, lawn and garden, housewares, tools, plumbing, BBQ to lawn furniture!! The employees are awesome! I am greeted and given assistance every single time. They have been cheerful and eager to help. You cannot say that about other stores! ;) The prices are slightly higher than the larger hardware stores. They do offer sales and those are awesome! Overall, a great addition to Elk Grove! Can I say that I appreciate the store being staffed with "mature" and knowledgeable people, who understand what it is to provide good service? Yes I can!!! The store was clean, items were clearly marked, and they even had some good items on the $2 sale tables. The selection for what I needed was readily available, along with some other options. I didn't know they sell pies until today! Now I have more incentive :) I've ordered some TWP stain from the store. They usually don't have that in the store, but you can order and pick up, and they have stuff from warehouse Wednesday and Friday so they good for me (as I only come out on the weekends). As many of you probably know it is so hard to get TWP. If you shop stuff a lot, make sure you join and get their apps so you can enjoy their coupon. I don't think they have much Black Friday deals or gardening special stuff but daily necessities with coupon is still good deal, especially if you are already doing grocery store next door. read more

A great alternative to the big bow hardware. Service is great and the staff knowledgeable. So nice to get what's needed and avoid the Walmart of hardware stores. The rewards program is wonky. Probably because I'm not a frequent visitor. No garden section and limited holiday stuff. I have found some decent items over the years. Going to here saves so much time. I'm a fan for most all hardware needs. There are still infrequent times when what I need is at the big box stores. Im so spoiled and despise this trips. Keep up the strong small hardware store experience. They have a nice selection for you meat smoking needs. Traeger and Big Green Eggs are well represented. read more

I didn't even know this place was even here. You always need some gadget and it's nice to have a hardware store really close by. I walked in and wow it is bigger than I expected. Lots of space and isles of goods. I had looked in to see if there were any left over Christmas stuff but all of it gone. It is so new and pretty looking. Lots of employees to help you out. The moment we walked in an older lady and man standing at the registers completely disregarded us and we were watched the whole time that we were looking at the grilling tools. Once we got to the register to pick up our black stone, we were being helped out by a younger lady who was nice but the two older folks were looking at my husband and I laughing and speaking under their breath. Love small neighborhood hardware stores. Called to see if they had kiddie pools, they did. I went right away. The salesman remembered talking to me. Owner's policies are not customer friendly. There are a few: 1) They often "mis" advertise their prices and when they scan they come up as 2 times the price on the shelf. Rather than honoring the lower price, the owner chooses to act as though you stole form her. 2) The refuse to let people use their rest room as a courtesy. Ace Hardware stores are also getting bigger than before. This one in Elk Grove is a lot bigger than those older stores opened many years ago. The bigger store normally carries more items but provides fewer customer services. But this is not applied to this Ace Hardware in Elk Grove. I have many employees there who asked if anything they can help with. All employees are very friendly and attentive. I have never seen this level of service from Home Depot or Lowe's at all. The store is not as big as Home Depot but they have everything I'm looking for in my job. No problem finding the stuff inside. All the different sections are labeled very well and organized. I have visited this Ace a few times and decided to provide a review today. I was looking for Scott Summerguard lawn fertilizer. They had it in stock. Due to the high price compared to Amazon, I decided not to purchase it. Instead, I elected to purchase Miracle Gro Shaker for my potted plants. I enjoyed viewing their displays of outdoor lawn furniture and BBQ pits with some on sale. They have frozen pies for sale that require baking which is an excellent idea to visit. The service has always been amicable, helpful to listen to your project, and walk you to the item location. This customer service is what makes Ace special compared to other options. read more

This has to be the largest ACE I've ever been in. They have the typical non-home depot cool stuff. The staff is super friendly, however they don't hound you like some ace hardware stores. They hands down have the best fasteners selection of all hardware stores!!! Only down fall/ negative comment is the prices here. They hurt, however you are paying for convenience. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. Stop shopping at ACE everyone. I went to return a dolly because it was so flimsy that it started bending with a load no more than a third of what it is rated for. I wanted to exchange it for another one but they said they will not do it because it's a tool. Then I also had to return a cord and tool that's brand new because they sold me the wrong type even after I told the guy that it most likely won't work. I paid $56 but they only returned $53. When I asked them, they said that that's the price in their store so that's all they can return. What a joke of a store and the manager who thought that this was okay. Apparently "that's how ACE does business" and the manager is not able to do anything. Never shopping at ACE from now on. I would rather go to a company that stands behind their product! read more

I am awaiting a response from the regional manager Dominic in regards to what I believe to be a series of racially driven incidents that occurred between myself and certain staff members whom I'll choose not to name at this point in time. I'd like to give upper management an opportunity to take the correct course of action. The first incident albeit egregious was mild in comparison to the second which took place yesterday around 1pm. The second was completely inappropriate, and a despicable display of cowardice on behave of the entire staff who stood around did, and said absolutely nothing as the series of events unfolded. There was however one shining star, a ray of light who subsequent to the event took the time to hear my grievance, give me the proper information, and his word that he would deliver my contact information to upper management. I'll choose not to name him either as he seemed to be the type who wouldn't want the attention, the last of a rare breed there to fulfill his duty as a MAN to himself first, then to his employer via exemplary customer service. One star rating for obvious reasons. If you are a person of color or appear to have any distinguishable characteristics that might suggest your are a societal outlier in anyway I would avoid doing business in this particular establishment as they so far have given the entire brand ACE Hardware, "Ace is the place with...." a terrible look. By the way I had to take a look at the wall of employee's staff members in order to identify one of the individuals whom I had the initial conflict with. No surprise a wall full of white faces. Great customer service from Griffin and Zachary. I came in with an oddball sized kitchen range gas feed flex line and they helped me rummage through all the fitting bins to find what I needed. I generally like this store as everyone is helpful, but I recently left with a sour taste because of the owner's own policy. When items on display have a lower sticker price vs the "shelf" sticker price, they won't honor the lower price as every other retailer would. (How does one know if the higher $ sticker is actually the right price?) The employees acknowledged honoring the lower price is the right thing to do but are not allowed to do so by the owners. Customer service is not lost. Wow this store is amazing. Hands down the best local hardware store. Yes, Home Depot is cheaper but you will not receive the same level of help and customer service. The multiple trips over the last 2 months I can't say enough about it. I walk in and they actually approach you and ask how to help. You show them a part or tell them what you need and boom they provide you with options. I was impressed with the level of service so much after leaving Home Depot for lack of service and really unsure of what I needed to extend my propane line. This store explained everything and got all the proper brass connectors and lines making it simple to understand and had me up and running in no time. Thank you ACE for being so awesome. I am giving this store 1 star for at least providing good customer service when they first opened. Not sure what changed, because recently all I got when entering the store was blank stares without any greetings. When customers purchase an item they expect it to work and if it doesn't they would like the return to be processed in a timely manner instead of having to stand and wait while the return is being fully examined especially if they have a receipt. I am very optimistic and always give people the benefit of doubt but when you can actually see how two separate customers are treated even if they walk into the store at the same time speaks volumes. read more
