I went into Harbor Freight to purchase two carports and immediately had a bad experience. When I asked for help, an employee said, "Ugh, I don't think I can carry anything heavy today." That was shocking to hear, considering helping customers load items is part of the job--and they have dollies and equipment for that exact reason. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming and depressing. Employees openly complained about their jobs and showed zero effort to help customers who were purchasing large items they sell every day. There was no teamwork, no initiative, and no customer service. Another employee questioned whether my vehicle was big enough. I drive a Chevy Tahoe--it absolutely fits two carports. Instead of speculating, someone could have easily come outside to check or switched positions so a more capable employee could assist. If an employee has an injury or physical limitation, that should be communicated professionally and handled by management. Simply refusing to help without explanation is unacceptable. I manage people myself, and I would never allow an employee with that attitude to interact with customers. I live with multiple sclerosis and deal with daily pain, yet I still show up and do my job with professionalism. Effort and attitude matter. Because no one was willing to help load the carports--or seemed interested in completing the sale--I had to drive all the way home and send my husband back to get them. He was also frustrated by the service. While he was loading the items himself, the same employee told him to move the car while she remained seated at the register. If staff aren't going to assist with loading, they shouldn't be dictating how customers manage it. This was by far the worst service I've ever experienced at Harbor Freight. Lazy attitudes, poor management, and no accountability. Extremely disappointing. The main employee that was not trying to even help me was white, super short hair and light colored eyes. Earrings were dangling. Her color doesn't matter because I'm white too so don't come at me yall. Just mentioning this so yall can avoid her boo whoo self. What I love about Harbor Freight is simply said...it's an awesome hardware store. I have no idea how they do it but they have an excellent price point on most of their items. And as an added bonus, Harbor Freight's "inside track club" members receive special members only deals and coupons on the APP or web page, which is a big help on on lowering prices even more. For some unknown reason this south Sac Harbor Freight seems to better stocked on most things I need. Today I purchased a package of small 1/4 cut sheets of 180 grit sand paper. I prefer the convenience of 1/4 cut size because they're easy to wrap around an old sponge sanding block. The customer service at this store is outstanding. Harbor freight is a great tool place for cost effective tools. I have had very gluck with the Bauer brand and now have a great collection of 20v cordless tools. The staff are helpful at the 3 loci frequent. The store layouts are similar. My only complaint is as a inside Track Club member. A light i purchased a month ago was charged at regular price. I thought a previous email said it would automatically give me the discount but it didn't. I was going to return then bring to the cashier when i re-purchased it. But it was a nice day and they had already closed so i went and got a pizza. Good thing because Harbor Freight don't serve pizza. And if they did i imagine the topping wobe 1/4" drive sockets! I've been to many Harbor Freight store locations and I must say that this is one of the best ones for customer service. Their employees are very helpful in pointing out or leading me to items I'm purchasing which saves much time rather than walking up and down the aisles looking for them. Drove 58 miles one way to go and pick up a floor jack not my favorite but was willing there was none in stock at closer stores. Only to find when I got home that this store cluck double charge me on my card. I called to ask to return the charge to card of the duplicate $489. Manager tell me at florin that I can go to any store and get the double charged corrected that they cannot do it over the phone, only to Drive to a closer store that didn't have the jack in stock(reason I drove to Florin!) to be sent back to the original store! Peeeeeveeeed!!! An extra 28 miles to my trip driving all around to get their F up corrected without any apologies without any offerings or discount of there wrong doings. Hood rat store with no knowledge and bad customer service. 2×58 miles round-trip times 2+28 miles to other store equals 260 miles for their mistake. Over 90$ in gas. This is my go-to tool shop. They got everything here, and it's cheap too. I bought a pressure washer for work, and it's still running strong. I almost can't wait for it to break so I can buy the more powerful model, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon. The only negative is sometimes they can hassle you with the price if you don't have the coupon barcode. This is not your typical hardware store. I have found a little bit of everything here from power tools, delicate jewelry making tools, auto repair, wood working, welding, and even some gardening supplies. While selections are limited, I most often find what I'm searching for. Sometimes, when I think they don't have an item, and I'm about to give up, it suddenly appears where I wasn't expecting to find it! So keep looking! They have a lot of merchandise of the hardware kind, so don't be surprised to find some unique gadgets that you haven't seen at the large warehouse competitors. Generally the tools are cheaper, but often they are off brands and can be questionable as to how well-made they are and if they will last to any useful degree. But if you are on a budget and not hard on your tools, this store is the place to try! I always enjoy shopping here just to see if they have that special item that I need for that special project. I've got a love hate relationship with Harbor Freight. I love the rock bottom low prices and the many items i can get for around a buck. I love the fact that the few hundred I've spent there on tools, air tools, compressor, and tranny jack have saved me thousands on car work that I was able to do myself. I love the fact that I can buy a nose hair trimmer for $3 for my dad, who has over-fertile nostrils when it comes to growing nose hairs. I love the fact that I just bought an awesome spotting scope for $43, when the sign said $60 and it rang up at $50 and I had a 15% off coupon. I hate the fact that I have to hunt around for 15 minutes for a sale item, and then give up and spend another 10 minutes looking for a worker, who then shows me the item which is up on a shelf somewhere not even remotely close to the section it should be in. I hate the fact that I go there excited about an item that's on sale dirt cheap, and then see just how incredibly cheap and lame it is, and that it's not even worth the price its advertised at. I hate the fact that I bought a $1 flashlight and it was broken right out of the box, and since it was so cheap, I didn't even bother to go return it. I love you Harbor Freight. I bought a tire for my wheelbarrow on 4/23 the tire did not fit so I brought it back with my receipt. Well the clerk who rang me up made a mistake on the UPC code and guess what they will not return my money because the code on the receipt does not match the tire. I get that but who looks at the receipt and checks it before they leave the store? This dispute is over $3.99 good thing it wasn't a high priced item. They say the tire is $12.00 again who checks the receipt. After this complaint went far up the chain they reviewed my purchase that was captured on store video and called me to apologize and tell me I was right after all and that store staff could of done that. I went on today and the store mgr refunded me my money. I now check my receipt every time. read more

Upon walking in I know I am at a tool shop. Every kind of doohickey there is to be. They are priced right too. When I need a specific piece of "equipment" this is where I go. Everything in my heavy duty toolbox is from this place (the toolbox too). I've got anything and everything I should need at any point. I don't know the names to everything but I have used almost all of it at one point or another. I love my toolbox. I feel so professional. Like I know what I am doing. If I'm working on something and someone visits while my toolbox is out I love it that it looks like I must kick ass with those tools. Don't get me wrong... Mya M just left me a nasty message for my comment about the employees at the fruitridge store. I HIGHLY DOUBT thay Mya has visited as many Harbor Freight stores as i have. In my last vist to the store i called tp make certain they had my materials because i need 27 tarps. I Was assured they had them. When i arrived the next morning they had 2 and lied to me about someone else coming in and buying all of them but they had new tarps ordered and they would have them in 2 days. I came back in 2 days and again, they had mysteriously sold 27 of the same size tarps i needed in one day. Amazing even though all the shelves and other sizes appeared to be the same. I called corporate who showed 20,000 ordered but over 1500 unaccounted for in california. I was then told thay a stote 45 minutes away showed they had the tarps but i paid more for a different size from frutridge which cost me more money because i had to buy more, they were smaller than what i wanted. YES MYA, i am disgruntled about being lied to for 3-4 days. And i do not like my intelligence questioned in such a manner. So now you no longer want me in your store, OK FINE. PLEASE save me the trouble of contacting corporate for a recommendation and just tell which store i can go to where they will tell me the truth and/or honor or correct an error that they deliberately make not once, not twice but three times. You are losing a customer who has spent easily over 6 figures at Harbor Freight tools and i know not many people can say that!!! This review is based on the fact that my husband goes in and doesn't come out for several hours, and when he does, he's only spent about $15 total. It's like Disneyland for dads, except much, much cheaper. I LOVE THIS STORE. I know it's just a bunch of cheap tools and manly stuff, I know it probably wouldn't hold up to heavy shop use, but we have a condo and not much to fix. What almost everyone here has said about Harbor freight being a great place for decent CHEAP tools is SPOT on. I've known this fact since well before YELP existed. The store's aisles are a bit disheveled, the employees may or may not be helpful. the tools WILL more likely than not BREAK on you. But the tools are WAY dirt cheap and a good deal of things I've got from HF have actually lasted me three years (regular use 4.5" angle grinder) so it's ok if some things break. This location albeit being in a hell of a hassle of a parking lot and in the ghetto is full of great employees. I was able to confidently get some pre black Friday ad sales questions answered. They were 100% correct and it saved me time and hassle trying to rush there when I "knew" the items I lusted for would still be there. I am like a kid in a candy store everytime I go to HF. Actually, I do the same thing whenever I go to hardware store. So many tools to see, I can't decide which one. But like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. If you are like me, a weekend hobbyist, then these tools will last quite a while. I still have most of the power tools I got from years ago and they are still working well. But if you use these tools to make a living, then I suggest look somewhere else. 1 star less because you can't really depend much on the employees... sometimes they're helpful and awesome sometimes they're MIA. The location is also shady... scary even. And the smell of rubber is too much... it gets better though when you get used to it. I will keep going there... As several people have mentioned, this is a good place for cheap tools. Generally the only tools I buy from here are things I need for a special project or to pick up tarps or other similar items for camping trips, etc. I tend to wait for their specials and stock up on items I know I will use regularly or have in mind for a special project I want to do. I get so damn tired of trying to find replacement parts for the tools Harbor Freight sells. Yes, they have a phone number but after trying & being put on hold for 20 to 30 mins. then a recording comes on and says they are too busy call back another time & hangs-up. Or you can send requests online explain the problem & the parts needed but don't wait around for an answer, you won't get one... Here is another situation. I ordered a jackhammer & a set of bits. I got the jackhammer & a magnet sweeper. I sent the sweeper back, since I already had one, & waited for the bits. Finally I got an email telling me when they receive the bits back they would refund my money. I sent all the copies of their previous screw-up & told them I wanted the bits I had ordered and paid for. They finally sent me the bits and a refund. I wrote them I would be happy to send them their money back if they sent me a letter indicating everything on this order was finalized. I LOVE HARBOR FREIGHT! These guys rock. Sure, the stuff might not be the best in the world but most of it is OK. For tools, it gets the job done short of someone who has to work with them every day. Some of their stuff is even good enough to make it into my work toolbox. Buy stuff when it is on sale. They have CRAZY sales. Every time I go there I find stuff for almost free that I can't leave without buying for fear I'll need it someday and won't be on sale when I need it. Join the inside her club. They got cheap tools for cheap/low price. Mostly names I've never heard of except for there. Like Chicago Tools. No name brand tools here. But it gets the job done, and afterwards if the tool is dead, then that's ok, you got your monies worth! They also carry car tools and painting supplies and various random items as well. Worth the check out to see if you can use it before spending lots of $$$ on something that you might only need for one job! This is a great place if you want to come for cheap tools. They have everything from big to small projects however the tools are off brand so you basically get what you pay for. There are also some things that are't sold in hardware store and are pretty unique and is worth buying it cause you never know when your going to need it. Customer service is okay on certain days but overall its not too bad. Not a lot of the employees that i'd talked with are knowledgeable. Overall if your looking for something quick for example a project or not trying out a certain item, it especially good that you come here to buy a cheap off-brand tool to try out before making a big purchase. Great store for cheap DIY tools. They have hard to find items not typically found at hardware or auto parts stores. Definitely must look for coupons in the mail, paper or auto magazines. Although tools are cheap; most hand tools have lifetime warranty and there's usually no issues exchanging broken tools. read more
