Adj: Knowledgeable. This is a locally operated Ace Hardware store, I believe it is a franchise. The owners are helpful if you have questions about a home improvement or repair issues and don't know how to go about trying a solution to the problem, or how to use a tool, or even what something you're looking for is because you've never heard of it, let alone seen one, LOL. I haven't come in for those yet, but sometimes I'd find an answer on Google, but the real-life application and execution of that fix to the problem doesn't work out very well, and I'm stuck. This is where Greenhaven Hardware as a smaller, mom-and-pop outfit would come in. At a big box store it might be hard to flag down someone to ask a question at all. But here at Greenhaven Hardware, there's always someone asking if you need help. We came in once to get some plants and had some questions and they gave us some good advice and our plants are thriving now. They also seasonally have vegetable seedlings for sale if your thumb isn't the greenest (that would be me!) and don't want to attempt to grow from seeds yourself. Sometimes they would also clearance out seasonal items because their store has limited space compared to a big-box, so you can also find some bargains if your timing just happens to find you catching some good deals. I don't count on that at Ace, but it's nice to support local even if their prices are slightly higher (sometimes quite a bit higher) because we can get excellent customer service w/sage advice for tricky home repair situations. Overall, I'm thankful we have a locally owned and operated hardware store still in our neighborhood and it's a great thing to have when experience and knowledge is what you're looking for to tackle more complex home maintenance or repair scenarios. I like stopping at this hardware store to see what useful knick-knacks are in the sale racks in the front. This is an old fashioned kind of hardware store where the clerks are actually easy to find and are helpful. (One tends to forget such places exist if you go to HomeDepot too many times) The staff is helpful and friendly. They answer my questions and don't try to sell me other unrelated items. They are dog-friendly! I've found good deals on a variety of items for kitchen , garage, and for camping ( good tarp prices). Needed 2 ft of 12 and 14 awg wire but the guy was too lazy to cut it from the spools and tried to sell me a 25 ft spool of wire. He wouldn't sell me the spool wire. Was using the wire for pigtails for two outlets and didn't need 25 ft. So, no more using the local hardware store. The big box store is cheaper and oddly, customer service is better too. Glad this happened before I went to buy a new Weber. read more

Back in the day when I was younger, I always enjoyed shopping for clothes. But now that I'm older (much older), I have expanded my shopping enjoyment more to hardware stores. LOL! I noticed this "Greenhaven Ace Hardware" in a strip mall where we were visiting another shop along the way. It's small but formidable. They were fully stocked from top to bottom with all the major items and products that one would want for home and yard. From electrical, plumbing, equipment, tools, cleaning products, paint, and of course, hardware supplies of all shapes and sizes. For me, it can get tiring and monotonous shopping at the same big box stores that we are often forced to patronize, which can keep lacking in inventory or customer service.  This store was a breath of fresh air!  Clean, organized, and well stocked, with very helpful staff members!  I had a nice time strolling down the aisles, checking prices and making mental notes. We found some things we needed, allowing us not to have to go elsewhere out of our way! This is a very nice neighborhood "Ace" store located in the Greenhaven area! read more

This place is an absolute gem in January 2025. After recently going to a cafe to order tea, and a robot was taking my order, could not answer any of my questions and made life super confusing. The staff here are always great, you got a great mix of older experiences guys working with newer eager young people with great customer service skills. Unfortunately for me my second home is practically a hardware or auto parts store of one type or another, I'm 50 plus in was practically born in a repair or machine shop. Heavy Equipment, Pwr Plants, to motorcycles, boats snowmobiles u name it. I've lived in this area since 05 and also unfortunately had to dip into the local Ace hardware once in a while. I personally have never ever seen one employee at this locale' smile to one customer, they all seem to always act Ur bothering them and cannot really wait to get out of there as they just hate every customer and their job. I understand they have no expertise but least pretend to be nice. I gave this store way too many chances, I will drive to West Sacramento Supply hardware 20 minutes further or Hollywood Ace or big box stores -- they are worse than terrible in every way and form, maybe it's just me. read more

There are so many good things to say about this local Ace Hardware. I had been looking for a reel lawn mower, which, according to the store clerk, rarely gets shipped to their store. Fortunately, however, they had recently received a small push mower, which was quickly retrieved from the stock room in the back. I was delighted to discover that Ace hardware was having their spring lawn mower and gardening sale. That said ,I purchased the reel mower which was diligently assembled and carried out to my car free of charge. The superior level of customer service at this charming hardware store is what keeps me coming back. Tucked into a strip mall in the Pocket is a great little Ace Hardware store. I have stopped here a few times in the past year just to pick up my favorite brand of spa chemicals (another COVID make-do :-), I swore I would never handle the pressure of maintaining my own spa again after moving to Sacramento...but, when gyms closed in March you gotta do what you least want to. This hardware store has always been in stock for what I need, and they have a good selection of all hardware stuff- I've perused the garden section, cleaning, tools/ hardware and it's amazing how much they have in a compact footprint. Definitely a neighborhood staple that it seems locals have relied on for years and it's got a "Cheers" vibe- they know their longterm customers and greet them by name. The only issues have been check-out because there always seems to be a slightly nutty person asking for help, complaining, or getting riled up (in fact, I heard a customer screaming about them being out of something- not cool lady, especially since we are in a global pandemic). That being said, the check-out is a bit confusing because I never know which of the 2-3 checkout lines are operational. The owner/s always seem to be present which is cool. The baffling checkout line is why I took off one star, but maybe as I become more local I will understand better! read more

I saw an AD for Ace Hardware and it brought memories from when I was a kid working in one of these. Lol. This particular location is on my way home from work so I decided to venture in. This hardware store is smaller than most I've been to. It looks like they've managed to fit every department in here, though. They have paint, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, tools, housewares, etc. Sounds like they have great weekly sales. The people working here are great, too. I was greeted immediately as I stepped in. We also had a brief chat while checking out. Very personable. It makes me feel at home. Lol. Since the store is so small you won't be able to find aisles of closet organizers or huge aisles of lawn furniture. However, if you're handy and needing plumbing repairs or electrical...this place has it! They have the basics and more. Pest control to yard work stuff to mixing paint for your home. I was in looking for a certain tool that I know exists, actually multiple variations of said tool exist. I talked to the owner, Dennis on two separate occasions and he told me that no such tool ever existed and that I must be incorrect and actually not even be looking for the correct brand of item I was looking for. Everything he said was wrong but he was so confident in himself that I wasn't going to waste my time trying to break through that brick wall. Elevated prices (two price compares to Amazon on step ladder and kitchen utensils) I could live with for convenience but poor customer service on top of that?! Stood in line at the cash register for service while two men stepped in front and were handled first by the two men behind the counter. I have been to about a dozen different hardware stores in Sacramento and this is my favorite by far. The best thing about this place is the people who work here. It feels like a small family owned business. They are extremely helpful. They will walk around with you and take as much time as necessary to find everything you need for your project. They also provide great advice. One employee gave me an idea for a project of mine, which resulted in that project turning out much better than it would have otherwise. Their selection of nuts, bolts, nails, etc., (aisle 2) is excellent and I find what I need every time. If I need something they do not carry, like lumber, I'll go to Home Depot. Pretty much everything else I come here because Home Depot cannot match the level of personalized service you get here. At Home Depot, you might wander around for several minutes to find someone for help. But at this place, they always check if I need help before I even ask. Even when they're very busy, someone will always manage to make their way over to see if you need help. read more

Needed some PVC fitting today and went to my local Greenhaven Hardware store. It cost me over $30 for about $10 or less in fittings. I really felt taken advantage of. I checked prices of the same items at Home Depot and verified that Ace is gouging on its PVC prices. What really angers me is, the guys at the counter take you money with a straight face. Next time I need PVC parts I will go to Home Depot. I have been a loyal customer for 35 years now, but enough is enough. I would have saved $20 my going to Home Depot. read more

If you need a key fob made, they have new ones to cut for you. Their price is about 1/3 of what key shops want. And they can program it to your car. If you need anything else, they probably have it. It's the most well stocked hardware store that I have ever seen in my life. read more

Garry really came through for us today. I have been looking for two days for a cable that would fit the attachments in my truck bed. After trying several stores I called them last night at 6:55 to ask if they could do it, they took my call 5 mins before closing and said to come on down and they would do their best to help me. I came down tomorrow, they couldn't have been any nicer Garry took such great care of me and custom-made a cable with loops as per my instructions he even helped me test it in the car so we know it was a perfect fit. This store feels like a mom and pop shop from back in the day. Honestly, I don't even know why they waste their time with the "Ace" part of the name because it certainly doesn't feel like any sort of chain store. I've always gotten great, helpful service. No one hovers while you're looking around, but you always feel like if you had a question, they'd immediately help you. My family swears by this place and they come here first before heading over to Home Depot. Good selection of products without being over- or underwhelming and the service rocks. read more

Amazing neighborhood hardware store! I have never cringed at their prices and they have good sales and coupons. The staff, in addition to being incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, is filled with silver foxes and cute younger guys. Tough to rate this business any higher than a 'one' when they can't even cut the correct type of key for a standard front door lock, but luckily, they apologized for messing up and cut a new key free of charge.
