I want to be more water-wise in my gardening and also give back to my environment and start planting more native plants in my little piece of the earth--plants that are good for the birds, the pollinators and other creatures that may visit my yard. It hasn't been easy for me to identify nurseries in my area that grow native plants for sale. While traveling through Sacramento, I had a little extra time before returning home. I decided to search the area for a native plant nursery. Thankfully, Mother Natives showed up on my Yelp search. The nursery is small but mighty. It is nestled along an unassuming industrial street to the south east of Fresno City College--not too far of a detour from the freeway (it is in between highways 99 and 5), and has a small gravel parking lot adorned by beautiful murals and native garden patches. I found the nursery on a cold and quiet February morning, and enjoyed looking around, as they had everything I was looking for. If you're looking for native grasses, herbs, berries, trees, or shrubs, you'll find what your looking for. Service was excellent, and the staff member (possibly owner?) took time answering all my questions and helping me find the right plants for my zone and for what my needs were. Many native plants are slow-growing, and they were offered in different sizes and at reasonable prices. I left with more plants than I expected to bring home (all happily planted and growing well--several weeks later), but fewer plants than I would have liked. I will definitely make this a stop on any path that takes me through Sacramento when they are open. This is a great find--and I hope they are around for a long time!

Well you can imagine my happiness while at a Yelp event in Oak Park I saw next door there was an amazing looking nursery-I just knew I would have to make a return visit-well when I finally had the time,we headed to The Plant Foundry located at 3500 Broadway in Oak Park. This place is so cute-I haven't been to a ton of nurseries as I've generally picked up my cactus plants at random spots like a midtown market or a Trader Joe's or as gifts from people but I will say this was one of the cuter nurseries I've been to. When we arrived I walked around a bit to check out what they had to offer-what was in season and wondering where the cactus plants were. I liked this little sign they had in the middle of their nursery which advised everyone what was in season and what should be planted at this time of year-for a newbie green thumb person like myself-information like that is very helpful. After walking around a bit I decided on the cutest little cactus to add to my collection at home and it cost me $7.99,so cheap and my daughter decided to get a snow peas plant($7.49). In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Oak Park area and want to check out the cutest little nursery-I would 100% recommend The Plant Foundry for all your gardening needs-they have a really awesome business running out there-I like em and will be back.

This nursery is on the smaller size and not as overwhelming as some of the others in the area, and all the plants we've picked up here have been happy and have been great additions to our garden. I like that we've found consistent seasonal offerings as well as have been surprised with some fun plants we haven't seen elsewhere. The store inside is also fun to browse with both garden accessories, as well as gifts, fun items, and local things that someone with an interest in gardening would also enjoy. The staff is friendly and helpful and there's even sometimes a cute and friendly cat that's wondering around to greet guests. A great spot to browse while visiting Oak Park and a great spot to pick up seasonal plants or more longterm additions to your garden.

Some plants were rather pricey but I don't know anywhere else that sells beautiful Japanese Maple trees. Staff are incredibly helpful, anyone I flagged down or chatted up seemed to know quite a bit about the plants and what I needed to take care of the plants I looked at, There is also an abundance of indoor houseplants, but sadly my husband said no to more houseplants! I recommend giving this place a try for your indoor and outdoor plant projects.

Whatever you can think of they probably have. What they don't have they will still know about and probably be able to order for you. Although it is a big corporation, their service is generally pretty good. Their staff are quite knowledgeable about all kinds of plantlife and are friendly and helpful. We've gotten trees and some flowers here and they have done ok despite our brown (black?) thumbs. Value is there for some items such as vegetable starts (seedlings), but other things are definitely overpriced like those fairy garden objects (they remind me of dollhouse knickknacks, I guess fairy gardens are grown ups' version of dollhouses? Lol) which were like $6.50 each for each one of those many tiny items. Overall, there's a ton to browse and ponder at Green Acres and it's a really extensive place for both amateur gardeners like myself and expert gardening enthusiasts!

Over the years, they grew in popularity and I saw the new neon signage go up and am always excited to see their next new landscaping and added features. This is a split between gardening supplies and plants. They don't have trees like your average nursery, but more of succulents, cactus, herbs, and decorative flora. They sell tons of giants pots and has an indoor shop with cute gardening knick knacks. I've purchased many cute household plants from them. I love that the space itself is decorated to give you ideas for your next project. It's a nice stroll thru paths, gazebos, and ponds/water structures. There is an annual butterfly event when the butterflies migrate and stop by the Secret Garden's many passionfruit vines. During their summer events, there's rotating vendors. I actually found my favorite coffee from a pop-up here, which now they have a brick and mortar shop downtown, Burnside Coffee. Whether you're looking for ideas or cute plants, the Secret Garden has it. Sometimes it's just nice to stroll around their grounds. I'm hoping they expand more in the future and add more gardens and structures. Hopefully they can set up a picnic area and have more events.
