Pros: Cute and tasty margaritas, cool interior, and nice servers Cons: overpriced and mediocre food, and dead ambiance My friend and I came here on a Friday night last week. We ordered the chicken paella, Mexican lasagna, and the appetizer sampler. The paella was almost like porridge. Not only was it very soggy, but it was also very bland. The Mexican lasagna was a big bowl of cheesy mush. All the ingredients were stacked in between layers of tortilla wraps, which became a soggy mess. I ended up using my "lasagna" as dip for the toasted baguette that came with my friend's paella. The sampler was also disappointing. The very few samplers included were either too salty or too burnt. Our bill, which also included 4 margaritas, came out to around $80. Even though it was a Friday night, the small restaurant was empty. They were setting up karaoke by the time we left (around 9:30 PM), so maybe the real crowd didn't show up til later. Overall, the only redeeming quality of this establishment are the very cute and tasty margaritas (I recommend the coconut margarita) served in "Erlenmeyer flasks", and the art on the walls. Oh, and the nice servers as well. I'll definitely be back, but only for drinks. read more

I hosted a private event here and it was one of the best experiences I've had working with a local restaurant. The owner Manny went above and beyond to accommodate us and it was such a pleasure working with their staff. They really took care of our guests and made us feel like valued customers. The food was also really good! Theyre private room is so fantastic and comfortable fit our party of 40 and the servers were so attentive. Came here on a cold January Tuesday. The food n drinks definitely warmed us up quickly. Classy spot with fantastic ambiance. Tuesday is Karoake night! Service was on point. The wings are real good. Really! Happy Hour is cheap. Drinks are healthy. Bartenders are always right there smiling and gorgeous. Here's the thing, I've stopped in 8-10 times at happy hour. The service the good Food and the atmosphere is always exactly the same. That's a winning trifecta. And the margaritas kick ass. read more

First impression walking in was great. Multicolored LED lighting and plenty of tvs. I had the steak tacos and chicken avocado panini. Both were very good. As drinks we ordered the "Elixirita" which although it came in a beaker style glass, it was not good. Tasted like straight sour mix. The staff was very friendly and checked in frequently with us. Got some take out and was pleasantly surprised. The wings are nice and big, well cooked, and the sauces are very well put together. The inferno wasn't the hottest thing in the world, but it wasn't just crushed red peppers- some effort went into make the sauce. It had a very nice after burn. The empanadas were a little sad, flat and a bit greasy. I got 3 in my order, but the sauce that came with them was just fantastic. Again, a lot of effort here is going a long way. The chorizo quesadilla was great, loved the onions inside, salsa fantastic. Overall, pretty solid. read more

This place really surprised me. I was kinda disappointed after reading all the reviews. Did feel that this place is very friendly to new comers. you can tell that they have there regulars and that is who the bartender spent most of their time talking to and that means your waiting to get a drink or place an order. the ambiance was ok, nothing spectacular and really didn't fit the pictures that are on yelp. I am new to the area so me looking for new places to hang out. this is not one of them that I would want to return to hang out at. read more

The music was playing. There were barely any other people at the bar. We are giving them business and they just Wanted us to "not be so loud". So, I want to be clear about this review. My husband and I have been to Elixir once or twice before for drinks. No problems. Tonight, we went for the food, which was excellent. But, Elixir failed on the thing that makes me most crazy about bars with good craft beer. Let's call it a weights and measures issue. First, the good. Elixir has a good selection of craft beer for a place with a relatively small number of taps. Several local NJ beers on draft, tending towards my favorite IPAs. Lines are super clean - everything tastes fresh and as it should. Now, the bad. The draft menu advertises "Craft Pints." But the IPAs don't come out in pints. In fact, they don't even come out in the same size glass. My husband and I ordered a Guava IPA from Evil Genius and an IPA from Dark City (maybe Road to Ruin?). One was served in about a 10 oz. glass, the other in what I estimate to be a 12 oz. I asked the waitress for my next beer to be served in a pint glass. She told me that because it was an IPA, the bar only serves in 14 oz glasses. (Now, as mentioned, we did not get 14 oz glasses for our first round, and not the same sized glasses.) So I asked if my 14 oz beer would come in the 10 oz glass or the 12-ounce glass (not in those words, of course). I was told my beer would come in whatever glass was clean at the time. Despite knowing I already had an issue, I got the 10 oz glass. Now, craft beer is my favorite food. I understand that many bars base the size of your pour on the ABV of the beer. All well and good, as long as you are upfront about it. My issues with Elixir are as follows: 1. Don't advertise "Craft Pints" if you are not going to serve me a pint. 2. Let me know what the ABV of the beer is. 3. Let me know how many ounces of beer I am going to get for my $6, $7, $8 bucks 4. Don't pretend you are serving me 14 ounces of beer when the amount is clearly much less. 5. Don't tell me that the size of the pour I am going to get is dependent on what glasses are clean. 6. (OK, this one is not beer-related) Don't ask me if I want flour or corn tortillas in my fish tacos and give me flour after I asked for corn (thought the tacos were still delicious) So, in summary, excellent food, good craft beer selection, and the next time I go back, I will only order beer that actually comes in a pint glass. Hoegaarden, here I come. (Either that or carry my measuring beaker in my pocketbook.) read more

My boyfriend and I came to Edison on a business trip and arrived late and a little hungry. After reading a few of the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We are SO glad we did! As mentioned in other reviews we read, the place isn't much on the outside, but it's cute on the inside. Even then, don't let the decor fool you. The staff was SO super friendly and attentive. One of the waitstaff brought our food over and asked if I was vegan (I had ordered the veggie burrito no cheese no sour cream). She chatted with us for a bit about it and then asked if there was anything else we needed before she left. The food was delivered fast and was delicious. The lime cilantro rice is so flavorful. The chips and salsa were standard fare, but the dish was the star of the show! I highly recommend this little gem!!!! read more

Really great Mexican option (especially for vegetarians) in the area. The Mexican pizza appetizer is fantastic. Had the smothered burrito - delicious as well. Food was tasty!!! Had blackened catfish with coconut rice and cilantro salad and tasty margaritas!!! My friend had vegetarian crunchy tostadas to her liking .Atmosphere was interesting DJ was playing great music Friday night ,wished more people off there phones and actually danced . Despite the lack of decor, do still give this place a chance. The atmosphere may be odd but the food is delicious...and that makes up for just about everything. I would say just about everything on the menu is great..but the showstopper is their fried ice cream for dessert. There are just no words! For a Monday and being the only ones in yhe restaurant for a while the service was slow. The kitchen was really slow even for a lunch special and a salad. The aesthetic was nice though, the food was presented very well and tasted good. Wonderful staff and bartenders! Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view of life) I can't really speak to the food. The menu looked varied and the French fries that I ate in a drunken stupor were delicious. The drinks, I can speak to. The bartender was kind enough to accommodate variations to drinks on the menu to make the perfect cocktail for me. There was a good balance of alcohol in each drink and everyone was attentive. All you can really ask for in a bar. I will amend my review once I actually go back and eat something, but for my first visit, no complaints. read more

Elixir is very fun the bartender Misty is amazing she will hook you up there entertaining very sweet. The drinks are awesome the food is freaking amazing we got that sizzling shrimp fajita, it was the bomb. That french fries they were hot. You want extra sauces or whatever they will get them for you. The food here is really great but the service is lacking and not that friendly. We went with a group of 7 people on a weekday for lunch. There was one other table of 2 people in the restaurant. The waitress was flustered and it looked like she didn't want to deal with a large group of people. She had an attitude and complained a lot. We ordered 2 dishes and 3 dips for the table. 1 dish was missing the condiments and the other dish was forgotten about and we had to remind the waitress we ordered it. The guacamole was so delicious though. Whoever is in the kitchen making the food is on point. Now if they could train the wait staff to be more polite and do their jobs better it would be the perfect bar. Maybe I'll be back for drinks because the strawberry shot I ordered was really delicious. Service is a part of the experience though. The ambiance is good in the place. Food is bland at best - has opportunity to perhaps change up the food a little. Ordered a Mexican pizza was cold when it came out and nothing thrilling. With this said the owner is extremely friendly and likes to engage with customers. The deco in this place is also good. The bartenders can be trained a little more on how to behave in front of customers and music is annoyingly loud all the time. Well first off, this place gets 5 stars for customer service. We came at 11pm which is when their kitchen closes and the owner insisted on us getting food even though the kitchen was closed. That right there was awesome sauce. Because I worked at a bar before. I hated people who come last minute. Even though we didn't know they close early. We got nachos and chicken tenders. Oh ma gah. Best salsa sauce ever. THe bartender mentioned how everything was made fresh. I mean obvi that's the #1 reason we stayed. I got a Mai tai drink. Tasted watered down but deff not liquored down cuz I felt the buzz mid drink. So I guess it was just the juice he put it. But I liked it. Over all this place looks pretty cool. Coming back to see how it is during the day and to try out the food. Give this place a try. This guy that owns it looks like he worked hard to make it how it is. Also the music was good.
