So, I was fairly new to comics a few years ago. I've been a huge fan of TMNT and wanted to support a local shop for the run of The Last Ronin. The shop owner told me that there was a delay in shipment (which happens a lot) then when it came I ignorantly believed it was a first print (didn't verify, that's on me) and was charge $20 for it! Fast forward years later, I've let that go. I can't go back in time and change it. And I've decided to let it go and continue going to a store that over charges and lies. I bought the Invincible Omnibus volume 1 and it was clearly read and mishandled spine cracked and not in the greatest condition but still paid full price. I could've got it on Amazon for less, NEW. But once again I let it go. I've been going back every week to see if things change but they don't. Then this last time I went the shop owner was entertaining racist conversation from an ignorant customer. It's been over a week since this happened. I usually go in with my headphones because I get over stimulated in a small crowded space like this shop so I've never noticed this before, but that day I didn't have my headphones in. So, I heard everything. I have receipts showing that I've spent over $200 dollars in December/January at this shop and I regret giving them my business. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and for a small store it did not seem overly crowded. I just started getting into Dark Horse Comics and told the clerk to point me in the right direction. He did more than that- he walked me around the store and gave me intense details of the books he was recommending. I didn't find what I was looking for that day but I will be back. Super nice folks inside! Helpful, not condescending, and very friendly. They had a pretty good selection and decent prices for the KC area as well. It was also clean, smelled pleasant, and was lit well enough that I could see everything which is definitely a plus when it comes to comic shops! The selection is great! They definitely have something for everyone, whether you're new to comics or have been reading them for ages the staff is friendly and willing to help! Admittedly I think you can get some of the older comics at a better price at other stores in the area; but that's only if you don't care about condition as much. I went into Comic Elite 3 weeks ago while I was in there I want the owner of comic Elite be great one of the people who was trying to sell him Comics A small collection they had and then as I begin to look at his overpriced comics on the wall I noticed that a lot of them were highly damaged to the point of low grade then he wanted 9.8 money for I left that day without buying anything later on however I remembered that he had Avengers forever 3 so I order comic books from Elite comics in Kansas City and they came wrapped in napkins all twelve Comics were damaged and!!! Before the book actually arrived he refused to give me tracking because he didn't send the books when he said he would it actually take about 3 weeks for him to send me books when I literally live an hour away from comic Elite read more

Do you have a friend who loves comics, always talks about new issues, loves to talk about cool old story lines and different authors and artists? Well, it seems that guy has opened a store in south Overland Park. The good part of the store is there is a whole ton of everything in here... new issues, older issues, variant covers, special books even some DVDs and figures. The store also seems to put together some special events here and around town. The bad part is that things are all over the place so you really have to search and dig for something you're looking for. When I was in I asked about a little older Spawn issue and one of the gentlemen behind the counter pointed at a counter behind me and said, "You might search through there." He was right, after about five minutes I found a variant copy and was on my way. I do wish the comics were at least separated out by publisher (small note: new titles are placed alphabetically, but all are mixed together.) However if you are somebody who really wants to take some time, search and even talk some shop, this is probably the place for you. I'm not in the neighborhood too often, but I do enjoy stopping in when I get the chance. read more

In 1992, when I was still in grade school, I was a huge fan of the X-O Manowar series, which was put out by Valiant Comics. I loved the storylines, the art, and the care and detail that the company put into all its books. Acclaim ended up buying Valiant and running it into the ground, along with the rest of its business entities. Thankfully, there were some dedicated fans with deep pockets who bought all the IP associated with Valiant and have been slowly preparing for a relaunch, which happened last Tuesday. Burdened with some work deadlines, it had completely slipped my mind that X-O #1 was coming out and I called 2 stores that were sold out before the nice man at Elite told me he would hold a copy. True to his word, the next day he had a copy for me, and had a great store too! I'll be back. read more

Was completely ignored for about twenty minutes in this store today. As a first time guest, I'm sure I looked sufficiently lost. Instead of help, however, all I got was an overheard negative conversation about "third-tier nerds who aren't really that into comics." Noting my college football t-shirt and lack of nerd-qualifying accessories, I took the hint. I gave the owner one final chance and tried to strike up a conversation about a used copy of a graphic novel I was interested in buying. After he told me it was "rare," and that his price (which was the printed retail price on the back cover) was the best I'd find anywhere, I excused myself and discreetly checked on eBay. Early print copies of the book were abundant and consistently $10 cheaper. I'm new to the world of comics and was hoping to find a group of people excited to help a beginner into what's seemingly a great form of art and entertainment. What I actually stumbled upon was a store that doesn't have the time to help out a "third-tier nerd" like myself. Make sure you're at least level 7. read more

The first time I stopped in at Elite Comics, I was on a tight deadline. I needed to find one more cool thing for someone on my Christmas list, and something I saw in the window as I walked by beckoned me inside. I was shopping for an adult female, which doesn't exactly seem like Elite's target audience. I didn't really expecting to find anything, but the Christmas countdown was well underway. Of course the store has plenty of comics, some of which are collectibles. But they also have comic figurines, Star Wars toys, TV tie-in toys from shows like the Simpsons and Futurama, and some comics I didn't expect, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the end, I found a warrior goddess figurine that made the perfect present. My absolute favorite comics/collectibles shop in town, without question. Every store is going to carry a similar line of products, at a similar price, so it's the owner of the store that makes a difference. That's where William shines. I started visiting the store 5-6 years ago, and it didn't take long to feel like one of the regulars and part of the crowd. Very welcoming, eager to strike up a conversation about anything, and just a great all around guy. It's not a business that is easy to maintain, and he's been doing it for years and years. The store offers all the comics you would imagine, as well as a great offering of Urban Vinyl, statues, original art, T-Shirts, etc. It's way more than a comic shop, and the perfect place to shop if you have even the smallest bit of geekdom running through your blood. read more

While the inside may feel a little cramped they keep an amazing stock and provide amazing customer service! The first time going here was on new comic book day and wow was it packed inside, I'm not sure if it is always that way on a regular day. The employees helping out were incredible and the other customers in the store were very inviting. I wanted to get into collecting comics with the new Marvel reset coming up in the fall of 2015 and this was the perfect place to go to prepare for it. I had a vague idea of what I was looking for when I went in and immediately Damont jumped to help me out. I showed him a list of around 10 comics with the idea that I was only looking at following maybe 2-3 of them for now and he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He had great advice regarding my interest in the marvel reset and I ended up getting started on the Secret Wars leading up to the reset. I can't wait to go back for my future comic needs! read more

The Costumer Service is ABYSMAL! They never have my pull ready when I go there. I always have to go to the racks to get about half of the monthly series I read. The comics that ARE in my pull when I arrive suspiciously contain expensive variant covers and series I DIDN'T ask to be subscribed to. If I accidentally miss an issuer because they didn't put it in my pull it basically mans I don't get to read it because back issues the order NEVER arrive. read more

Impossible to find anything or browse do to overcrowding, prices bit extreme too but maybe sell him your back issues at 65% of what he lists them for and become rich! I just went in there today and I must say the experience was lacking. The guy running the place seems nice enough, but the place is a mess. Boxes and boxes of comics that aren't labelled, aren't priced and aren't cataloged/inventoried. Comic boxes are stacked on top of each other 4 plus boxes high. You can't even get to most of the mystery boxes to even see. The steel cabinets are chaos too. Very few things are labelled correctly and I just gave up looking. I took pictures illustrating this. They have no idea where most things are and I asked. Their new comics section is fine, but everything else is everywhere. I walked out with nothing. read more

While this comic shop isn't the biggest I've been to, it is one of the best. The store is clean and organized. They have a great selection of current comics and back issues, a wall of trades, and a good selection of statues and other merchandise. There is always a group of people hanging around talking about comics. They regularly bring in writers and artists for signings. read more

I went to Elite Comics for the first time today, with low expectations after having visited another store in Midtown. As a first-time buyer with a long interest in comics, I've always found the scene intimidating. Thankfully, DC's New 52 reboot has given me a good place to start several potentially interesting titles, and also thankfully, Elite had a great selection. One customer did make a comment about the traffic from new people going for the new DC books, but the guy at the counter made it pretty clear that everyone was welcome. He was friendly and helpful, and gave me plenty or room to find what I was looking for and explore options through the rest of the store. If I had more time and money, I could have spent an hour in there. I'll definitely be back. read more

On our quest for our new comic book store in our new home and having had a horrible experience (3x) at the first store we tried, we made a list of all the comic books stores in a 40 mile radius and set out on an adventure. The first comic book store on our list was Elite Comics. We did not go to any others on our list. Elite has it all for us! We are comic book readers, statue and memorabilia collectors, and go crazy over anything geeky. This store satisfied us in all points. The service was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and we felt very welcome. We're glad to hear there is a Batman event on Saturday and we'll be there to support this local store and partake in the fun. We have found our new second home and we couldn't be happier. :) read more

Never had better service at a comic book store. We were allowed to roam and explore at our leisure, but any questions we had were answered pleasantly. While we were there a young boy came in to find out the value of some comic books he had "acquired" and the gentleman working was kind and took the time to look up values for the kid (who wasn't buying or selling!). Both of my kids found comics they had been looking for and we even found some new favorites. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. read more

Let me start by saying this comic shop gets a 5-star for sheer volume alone. I unfortunately have to deduct 2-stars for its serious disorganization. When I have to move stacks of long boxes that are pilled 4 high to look in drawers there's an issue. I finally gave up after it became more work than it was worth. I at least found 1 issue I needed so it wasn't a complete waste. I'm sure with the amount of back issues this store has what I was looking for was in there somewhere but I shouldn't have to spend an afternoon to find them. P.S. I will revise my wording from "unorganized" to "cluttered". They have done an impressive job in an attempt to organize that many comics.
