Service with a smile! Everyone that works here is the best! They are always willing to help, or answer questions. Very knowledgeable about games and comics. 15/10 experience. Best place ever. Great locally owned board game and comic book store. I miss their beautiful location in downtown Lee's Summit. This store isn't as nice as where they used to be, but I still enjoy coming here. Last time we went in, a bunch of people were playing board games in the side room, and were super friendly. They let us hang out and observe, and were willing to answer questions about what they were playing. On the retail side, the staff seem knowledgeable, and they have a great selection. read more

I've had good experiences with this place in the past so, for that, I gave it 3 stars. However, I went in the other day and was not happy. I was in the store browsing through the games section for at least 30 minutes; even walking past the register a few times. I was not acknowledged once; never greeted, offered help, smiled at, etc. I was hoping to get some recommendations, but the person working was involved in a conversation with a couple of people the entire time I was there. Needless to say, I left without buying anything, which might not have happened if I was helped. And, if this was my first visit there, I wouldn't have come back. Hopefully, some training can be done because they have a great inventory of games and comics. read more

I am in love. How Husband and I have managed to visit Lees Summit so many times and never find this place is beyond me. But we were cruising around in Mother-in-Law's car, and I was playing with her GPS, and I happened to type in "Games" out of curiousity, and I'll be damned if Pulp Fiction didn't pop up as only being .3 miles away. Husband and I commenced to put on our best begging faces--"Please can we go to the game store? PLEEEEEASE?" And we just about fainted from joy when we walked in. Pulp Fiction is not a huge store, but it has an INCREDIBLE inventory. Comics, graphic novels, RPGs, minis, and LOADS of board games. Whoop! Husband immediately turned to me and said, "How much money do we each get to spend?" And let me tell you, if we lived near this store, we would spend a LOT of money. One major thing I really liked about Pulp Fiction is that it is incredibly clean and well organized. Although I love my dork brethren, they are usually more focused on their games than on keeping things neat and clean. Distinctly lacking from Pulp Fiction is the odor of fast food and BO that permeates most similar establishments. Even the open gaming room in back is super clean. I just can't say enough good things about this store. Please go. I want to make sure they do good business so that they will be thriving the next time we come to town. read more

This is a great comic book store! My fiancee and I ventured here after moving up from Wichita. First thing we did was get our pull lists in order. I get a lot of Transformers comics, which they don't order that much of. The guy behind the counter told me that because of that, it may be a week behind. That's fine with me. We come in maybe every 2-3 weeks or so. The place is well stocked and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have a big game room we have often seen being used, but we haven't sat down to play with anyone yet. Prices are marked and are regular retail. People don't come here for the prices. They come for the environment and the helpful staff. They do have a modest selection of snacks and drinks, usually purchased by the gamers. My fiancee and I will be regulars as long as we are in the area. The staff know us by name when we walk in the door. That type of treatment is what I look for in these type of establishments. Highly recommended if you are comic book geeks like we are. read more

I'm not sure how well I can provide a fair review of Pulp Fiction Comics when my only visit to the store was the second most important day to geeks across the world - free comic book day! Surely any place that gives you free stuff that you would have purchased anyways goes up a few stars regardless of the actual quality of the business. However, I tried to eliminate my childish excitement for a few seconds to do a good one-over of the place. As far as comic shops go, it is a pretty decent size - not too small that it feels crowded with stuff but also not too big that it feels empty and overwhelming. The layout is pretty typical for a run-of-the-mill comic store but with the number of people that were there today it did feel like it was easy to be trapped in the back with no escape. The staff seemed friendly enough but in all honesty, they were so busy today that I can't give an accurate reading on whether they would make you feel at home if you weren't part of their tribe. Comic shops are always a bit difficult to visit as an outsider and to me this is usually the thing that makes or breaks it. I am going to try to visit again another day to get a better feel for it. Overall, I'd say that Pulp Fiction is a winner but I'm not making any promises. As a side note, for free comic book day they allowed you to take only 3 books plus one more with each non-perishable food item you brought. I understand that they likely have limited supplies of the books but this was slightly disappointing considering the comic store I frequent in Cleveland allows you to take one of everything. I'm not complaining since I understand why they have to do it but it is good to know for people trying to take a big stack of books home on FCBD. read more

Really nice staff. Super helpful. I am a Star Trek fan that use to collect comic books back in the 90's. I started re-watching TNG & DS9 (my 2 favorite series) and got nostalgic. So, found this place on Yelp and it was a great find. They have a handful of the old series TNG, Voyager & DS9 comics and also let me know of a new series "TNG Mirror Universe". They didn't have it in stock but they ordered it for me. Can't wait to read it. I will definitely be a new regular. read more

This a great games and comic story. Super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff. If they don't have an item, they are always happy to special order. They are great with giving suggestions. Typical Neo Nerd. If you don't look like you live in your moms basement, don't bother. I've collected comics since I was old enough to read. When I was kid, comic collectors were from a different world. Sometime between my childhood and adult hood, this changed. In the early 2000's I noticed a shift from friendly interaction to absolute elitist attitude. If you don't play Magic the Gathering or whatever these guys are into these days, you aren't part of the club. Stopped by here on my way home, told the owner exactly what I had and exactly what condition I was working with. This is best way to feel out a place like this. He said "bring them in and I will take a look at them". I double checked on my way out the door, I didn't want to waste my time or his. He seemed genuine so I went home and got what I wanted him to see. A total waste of time. He wanted to thumb through my stuff thinking he might find a hidden gem. Then offered me $5 dollars for 65 comic books. Do your self a favor and stay away. Never take anything of real value to a place like this. read more

Attractive facilities, good selection, and thoughtful attentive employees. Being relatively new to the comics scene, I decided to try out a comic book store locally hoping to find a nice little comic shop that didn't overwhelm me. I was pleasantly surprised when I got to Pulp Fiction Comics and was greeted with a decent size show room with a great selection for it's size, all very clean and organized. Aside from a very large selection of new single issues, back stock singles, trade paperbacks, and hardcovers (all of which they can special order if they're out), they also offer many figurines and statuettes, a plethora of all kinds games such as D&D and Warhammer to name only a few, and quite a few novelty items and dice. As far as costumer service goes, I couldn't have asked for a more friendly, helpful employee. He was nothing but patient with my lack of knowledge of the industry, and very helpful in referring titles based on my interests. The whole experience was very conversational and enjoyable. Never once did I feel pressured into buying anything, though my wallet was considerably lighter when I left from a good haul. I recommend PFC to anyone in the area that has interest in comics or numerous types of board games, at any level. Be you one who knows next to nothing, or a seasoned vet of the industry, you'll find nothing but a good experience and enjoyable time at Pulp Fiction Comics. read more

My rating is based strictly on how they treated me as an individual. A few friends and I went in to look for some book on D&D, the storekeeper seemed nice at first and told us there was a book on it on one of the isles. We go look and I was considering buying it just to have the physical book itself. I look to one of my friends and said "We can probably find it online." (As in a free or we could buy it way.) My friend laughs and assumes that i'm talking about Pirating it on the web. The Storekeeper instantly snaps and tells us "Don't even bring up stealing I shi* you not." in a angry tone. I looked at him and told him I would never steal from his store (or from any store). He replies with "Pirating is still stealing. Don't bring it up in my store. I shit you not guys." We go about our browsing around with a small intent of buying now and are just browsing. Over all I would give that particular staff member a 1-5 rating because you don't treat your customers that way. No matter what. Its kinda common sense. As in the store itself: 5-5 They have a great store, its very well kept, easy to find what your looking for. Its pretty chill. As a side note on the whole deal with the storekeeper. I understand as a comic and game store pirating can kill your business, and so can being a di** to your customers. If I wanted to pirate the book I would have, but I didn't, I came into the store to look and maybe buy the book. His language was offensive to say the least. But will I come back? After eclipse watching, the family and I needed something to do for the evening as we were not driving back home till the next day. That's how we ended up at this little gem of a comic store. Do not be deceived by its outwardly appearance as its contents are amazing and bountiful. We left after spending about $70 and would have spent more if we stayed. Some local boys were in the game area, having what appeared to be intended and exciting gaming conversations, bringing to mind memories of gaming childhood experiences myself.
