    Food prices.
    Cassie S.

The prices here are outrageous. I spent $67 on 3 kids hotdogs, 3 bags of chips, 1 small bowl of chili, and 4 drinks. SIXTY. SEVEN. DOLLARS. Now, I don't mind spending $67 on dinner for my family, but I expect they will be filled and satisfied for that price, which they were not. "Gourmet chips" (which are actually a straight up bag of 1.75 oz Doritos) will set you back $4.50.

2 bowls for chilli for $17!! Bother me? NO! If I'm eating at the Top of the Sierra Cafe, that means I'm at the top of Mammoth where the black diamond/snow enthusiasts are. You can only get there by gondola. You can take the Gondola down or slide down on your board or skis. This cafe is tiny and doesn't offer much - but it's decent. A hot bowl of chilli when it's cold and windy is a nice touch before hurling yourself down the mountain. It is pricey but it is what it is. If I'm up there in the snow, I'm having a blast and I'm not letting something like money bring me down.

We took the gondala up from the main lodge to McCoy, then continued up to the top at Eleven53 Cafe. I got a chicken tikka wrap sans the wrap for my son and it was good. Really small but fun area and the info section has cool history on the mountain and about animals.

I had specifically asked to substitute the rice, but it was still served -- and there was a hair in it, which is absolutely unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint. The kids' burger was overcooked to the point of being dry like a cracker, and the fries looked and tasted like they were cooked in old, repeatedly used oil. This is unsafe and unacceptable, especially for children's food. The steak was ordered medium well, but was served well done -- completely overcooked. The chimichurri sauce was also misleading: instead of the classic green sauce, a red mixture was served that had nothing to do with it. The coleslaw was simply awful. Additionally, the staff showed no proper response -- we were not offered a replacement, a discount, or even a proper apology. This reflects a complete disregard for service standards and customer care. In its current state, this does not meet even basic restaurant standards.

Decided to still try out a couple of new spots to give Mammoth a chance and was pleasantly surprised by Mammoth Tavern. Stopped in on a Saturday night and were told that the wait would be about 30 to 40 minutes but were seated in about 10! I highly recommend waiting in their waiting area or downstairs for your table as they will come to find to if something opens up quicker. Everything we ordered was tasty. We were very hesitant to try the Asian sticky ribs but it actually ended up being really good. I can't remember what the vegetable dish (4th pic) was called but it was also very good if you got a bite with everything in it. It had sweet potato, beet, candied walnuts and pomegranate seeds! We also ordered some drinks. The curry drink (forgot the name) was surprisingly good despite the odd list of ingredients that went in. Their local black cherry soda was also very nice. Service is great and very helpful when it came to recommendations. The space is small and doesn't allow dogs which was a bummer but still a spot I would come back to try more of their seasonal items!

From figurines on sale, to old posters and gumball machines, the interior gives old diner and family restaurant vibes and the exterior patio gives mountain brewery vibes. The weather was nice so we sat outside. We each had omelettes, and apart from a thick slice of cheddar cheese being melted on top, they were both pretty good. I didn't care for the hash browns but my girlfriend loved them, so I'd say they're hit or miss. The Arnold Palmer I ordered was awful, with lemonade that was way too tart, and iced tea that had a sugarless berry flavor. Poorly blended and I barely drank any. Overall the food wasn't bad, it was filling, the service was decent and the location was ok, but it was still pricey at nearly $60 for two for lunch, and for that reason alone I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The specials are often worth trying!…read more Mammoth is usually one of the few ski resorts in California that opens the longest, and has the most open terrain. This was particularly true of the 25/26 season, and I found myself there in what was likely one of the last powder days of the season. I stayed in the Mammoth Creek Inn, a short walk away from Mammoth Bowl, but this is not the first time I've been there. Mammoth Rock Brasserie is somewhat hidden as it exists above a bowling alley, but it is undeniably one of the rare gems in Mammoth Lakes. I walked in at about 5:30pm without a reservation on a Saturday, and everything was great. I got seated quickly near the window with a great view, and was given the rundown of the specials of the day, which I'll be grading individually. - Hamachi Special "Hamachi Crudo" (5/5) - done to absolute perfection, the choice of sauces and a small amount of ginger and seaweed salad made for a perfect tasing experience. The sashimi is fresh of course, but what sauces you pair with it matters - and Brasserie did it perfectly - Seabass special "Loup de Mer au Beurre Blanc" (5/5) - done to perfection! The skin was perfectly crispy, and the fillet done amazingly well and combined with the Beurre Blanc made for an incredible pairing. The mashed potato side and asparagus was also great, although I wasn't really a fan of the root vegetables. There was also the complementary bread and salted butter which were a great way to start. The bread I believe comes from Shea Schat's bakery in the same town. Overall everything was amazing, and you're overlooking some of the best views of Mammoth Lake's mountain range. It's difficult to not recommend the experience, except maybe it being a somewhat pricey fine dining experience, but I think everyone should try it at least once!

She also really liked the Cuban sandwich after assuring me she would not like it when I ordered it for her. Atmosphere is also very cute and homey feeling.
