2 bowls for chilli for $17!! Bother me? NO! If I'm eating at the Top of the Sierra Cafe, that means I'm at the top of Mammoth where the black diamond/snow enthusiasts are. You can only get there by gondola. You can take the Gondola down or slide down on your board or skis. This cafe is tiny and doesn't offer much - but it's decent. A hot bowl of chilli when it's cold and windy is a nice touch before hurling yourself down the mountain. It is pricey but it is what it is. If I'm up there in the snow, I'm having a blast and I'm not letting something like money bring me down.

The prices here are outrageous. I spent $67 on 3 kids hotdogs, 3 bags of chips, 1 small bowl of chili, and 4 drinks. SIXTY. SEVEN. DOLLARS. Now, I don't mind spending $67 on dinner for my family, but I expect they will be filled and satisfied for that price, which they were not. "Gourmet chips" (which are actually a straight up bag of 1.75 oz Doritos) will set you back $4.50.

We took the gondala up from the main lodge to McCoy, then continued up to the top at Eleven53 Cafe. I got a chicken tikka wrap sans the wrap for my son and it was good. Really small but fun area and the info section has cool history on the mountain and about animals.

I had specifically asked to substitute the rice, but it was still served -- and there was a hair in it, which is absolutely unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint. The kids' burger was overcooked to the point of being dry like a cracker, and the fries looked and tasted like they were cooked in old, repeatedly used oil. This is unsafe and unacceptable, especially for children's food. The steak was ordered medium well, but was served well done -- completely overcooked. The chimichurri sauce was also misleading: instead of the classic green sauce, a red mixture was served that had nothing to do with it. The coleslaw was simply awful. Additionally, the staff showed no proper response -- we were not offered a replacement, a discount, or even a proper apology. This reflects a complete disregard for service standards and customer care. In its current state, this does not meet even basic restaurant standards.

Decided to still try out a couple of new spots to give Mammoth a chance and was pleasantly surprised by Mammoth Tavern. Stopped in on a Saturday night and were told that the wait would be about 30 to 40 minutes but were seated in about 10! I highly recommend waiting in their waiting area or downstairs for your table as they will come to find to if something opens up quicker. Everything we ordered was tasty. We were very hesitant to try the Asian sticky ribs but it actually ended up being really good. I can't remember what the vegetable dish (4th pic) was called but it was also very good if you got a bite with everything in it. It had sweet potato, beet, candied walnuts and pomegranate seeds! We also ordered some drinks. The curry drink (forgot the name) was surprisingly good despite the odd list of ingredients that went in. Their local black cherry soda was also very nice. Service is great and very helpful when it came to recommendations. The space is small and doesn't allow dogs which was a bummer but still a spot I would come back to try more of their seasonal items!

Caesar salad was the other star of the night, very light & refreshing to go with the heavy pizza. Everything else was just alright. Buffalo wings were small and light on sauce. Fettuccine Alfredo was super basic, as if it was a frozen microwaveable dish. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the pizza, salad, and drinks if there's a sporting event to watch that night! I'd pass on everything else there.

The specials are often worth trying!…read more Mammoth is usually one of the few ski resorts in California that opens the longest, and has the most open terrain. This was particularly true of the 25/26 season, and I found myself there in what was likely one of the last powder days of the season. I stayed in the Mammoth Creek Inn, a short walk away from Mammoth Bowl, but this is not the first time I've been there. Mammoth Rock Brasserie is somewhat hidden as it exists above a bowling alley, but it is undeniably one of the rare gems in Mammoth Lakes. I walked in at about 5:30pm without a reservation on a Saturday, and everything was great. I got seated quickly near the window with a great view, and was given the rundown of the specials of the day, which I'll be grading individually. - Hamachi Special "Hamachi Crudo" (5/5) - done to absolute perfection, the choice of sauces and a small amount of ginger and seaweed salad made for a perfect tasing experience. The sashimi is fresh of course, but what sauces you pair with it matters - and Brasserie did it perfectly - Seabass special "Loup de Mer au Beurre Blanc" (5/5) - done to perfection! The skin was perfectly crispy, and the fillet done amazingly well and combined with the Beurre Blanc made for an incredible pairing. The mashed potato side and asparagus was also great, although I wasn't really a fan of the root vegetables. There was also the complementary bread and salted butter which were a great way to start. The bread I believe comes from Shea Schat's bakery in the same town. Overall everything was amazing, and you're overlooking some of the best views of Mammoth Lake's mountain range. It's difficult to not recommend the experience, except maybe it being a somewhat pricey fine dining experience, but I think everyone should try it at least once!

When we arrived the restaurant was fairly empty. Around 5:30. That should have been a clue.... When we requested them to put tables together they were so rude and acted like we were severely inconveniencing them. We're out to dinner with friends on vacation so excuse us for wanting to all sit together in your empty restaurant! When it was time to order I nicely asked if it was easier for the server to divide the checks by our 3 families as we ordered or wait until they brought us the bill. Server says neither could be done. Their "system" wouldn't allow it. It would be impossible.. So I said that was odd because I eat out at least 3 or 4 times a week and usually it's not a problem.. So I offer what I thought was a reasonable solution ... They seemed so put out that they had to put together 3 small tables for our group so I suggested entering the order as 3 separate tables .. Nope! Couldn't be done. Food wouldn't come out at the same time. I said we didn't mind that. I even pulled our table a little away from the other 2 and said ... Ok, now we're our own table.. Nope! Couldn't be done.. best they could do is put everything on one check and we'd have to figure out how to divide it up ourselves and they could run separate cards. Now here's the thing if you're reading this thinking I'm just whining and being unreasonable.... I'm giving them my business.. it ended up being over $300 of business for them. I own my own business so I know the value of customer service. If I make a reasonable request for something that is done all the time at other places and they flatly refuse and do that with attitude,,, that is a horrible customer service. They do realize they're in a service industry, right??. When they tell me that my request isn't possible thats a lie because I do it all the time. What they are really saying is that they don't WANT to do it or are refusing to try to figure out a way to accommodate our request. Normally I tell the server that if they can't figure out a way to fulfill my simple request and we have to do it ourselves I'll just deduct some from their tip since I have to do their job and it seems they don't want to be inconvenienced. But since we were a larger group they automatically hit us with a service charge. So instead, next time we'll take our large group to Gomez's which I hear is better and hope the servers are more friendly and more accommodating.

Erin went above and beyond and brought out two complete splits for us. It was very kind. My husband ordered the pork chops and said they were excellent. Everything was really good that night, but we sat outside, near the end where they used to have a yoga studio, but now it's a bar of some sort. The competing music was annoying. My husband and I returned again and everything was back to normal. We did sit closer to the front door, but the music seemed to be just fine. Eric was our server with assistance from Em and Brian. Everybody was so attentive and on top of things. The minute my water glass was half empty, Brian had it filled up. The owner, Matt, even came out to say hello.
