Bottomless coffee in kitschy vintage cups.
    Jennifer J.

Disclaimer: I like kitsch. I like greasy spoons with dated furniture and giant photographic wall murals circa 1980. I like mismatched plates and grumpy-faced restaurant owners. And of course, I like a good breakfast and - even more - I like great deals! And I got all of the above during our rainy-day V-Day breakfast at Elena's. To me, part of the charm of a family-owned joint is that you almost feel like part of the family when you go there. But here, you also get great food. We shared their breakfast special ($6.99 Canadian...which is practically free considering the exchange right now!) and a side of a pancake ($1.50, a steal for a pancake that took over an entire dinner plate). The coffee was strong and bottomless, and the server (the aforementioned owner's son-in-law) was friendly. There are only a few tables in the place, one of which was occupied by a group of regulars who have been breakfasting (is that a word?) at Elena's for years. They also have a beautiful collection of European (Russian?) china which you have to peer into the kitchen to see - it's gorgeous! And their lunch menu (pierogi's, borscht...) looked insanely appetizing, so we'll be back for sure.

Pretty much everything is made from scratch. I ended up ordering a plate of perogies for breakfast just because I wanted something made from scratch while my date ate the usually breakfast routine. Who says I could not be odd person eating that at 10am? Perogies definitely tasted homemade with a large helping of sweet onions on top. I would have preferred pan fried ones instead but this was pretty good for what it was. There was a generous amount of sour cream on the side and the two bacon strips was crispy and not greasy. Family run business. I saw the cookies on displace at the cash register and was tempted to buy one as they looked pretty tasty.

I love my breakfast so I'm always looking for that elusive 5 Star café diner that knows how to make a great old fashion Eggs hash browns and meat. When I read the reviews and saw Eleni's also made Ukranian food I figured what could be better than eggs and perogies. Tried the breakfast special with a side order of 3 perogies- not impressed. Pan fries were greasy soft and undercooked, perogies were doughy and bland. Decor was on par with the food And washroom needed attention Conclusion there are better spots in the neighborhood

Food was yummy but service was eh. Seemed like if you weren't a regular, you aren't welcome. But the food was good so tummies are happy.

When I was seated, I ordered the Smoked Duck Breast Benedict and coffee. The benedict was great overall. The duck meat was exceptionally good if not a little chewy while the honey mustard helped add a vibrant flavour to the entrée. The hashbrowns were solid good and crunchy. The side of fruit were very fresh and juicy to eat. The coffee was great and I saw myself having a second cup. The establishment was mildly lit and clean; aspects I usually like in a restaurant. The service was excellent. I received my food what only seemed like minutes after ordering, and the servers were very perceptive to my needs. Besides waiting, I had a great time at Delphi's, and I hope to come back there very soon to try something new.

We arrived at 4:30 and took turns standing in line. By the time we got seated down it was 7:15. I heard when the promotion started the wait was super long and there were people waiting for 5 hours. Food was ok. It wasn't superb but again for $9.99 buffet, I couldn't ask for too much. once you are seated the food line up moves super fast and smooth. Food selections or options are super limited. Seems like nothing much to eat other than lobster and prime rib. The salad looked so sad that even I don't want to touch it. I wasn't sure how long the salad has been sitting there. I did grab some flat bread and it was stale. So basically nothing is edible at the buffet other than the lobster and prime rib. The desserts looked sad as well. Definitely not wow. Have to say because I was standing in line for so long, I really got to know my friend H a lot more.

Surprisingly, we were sat right away and our server came to take our drink orders quite quickly. All seemed to start well at this point. The place was bright and airy and they had a large menu to choose from. I ended up selecting the white grape drink, but had asked for light ice. The drinks took some time to arrive, but once they did, we noticed that my drink had so much ice in it that the ice was piled above the rim of the glass. My friends and myself were all surprised. I had to clarify with them if they heard me ask for light ice, to which they confirmed I had very clearly. We then called the server over and I reminded him kindly that I had asked for light ice, and asked if he might be able to bring one without any ice at all, if this is light. He was apologetic and said he would bring one shortly. Once he brought my drink, this time without ice as requested, he took our food order. I ordered the chicken croffle without cheese. Within 15 minutes all of my friends food orders had arrived except mine. My friends were adamant on waiting for mine to arrive before eating theirs, despite my objections. Additionally, they had all requested hot sauce for their meals and wanted to wait for that anyway. We ended up calling over the server at least twice to request the hot sauce on top of the first time, but didn't inquire about my meal yet as we all assumed that it maybe just took longer to cook. After another 15 minutes of waiting my friends called our server over and inquired as to where my order was along with the hot sauce. The server looked shocked and said he would be right back. We watched him return to the machine, double check the orders he had put through, and then run back to the kitchen. He promptly returned with my meal, which was now lukewarm after having sat in the kitchen for so long. We then again, asked him for hot sauce, which he went to get immediately and brought back to the table. While he was going to get the hot sauce, I noticed immediately that there was cheese throughout the dish and inquired with the server when he returned if that was in fact, cheese. He said yes and smiled. I reminded him that I had ordered the dish without cheese. He advised he would be right back and took the order with him. After a couple moments, he returned to advise they would have to remake the dish and asked if that was alright with me. I said yes, what else would I say at that point? After waiting another 5-7 minutes and watching my friends eat the majority of their meals (I insisted at this point that they stop waiting), my meal returned warm and correctly made. At this point, I could finally enjoy the delicious meal prepared in front of me. It truly was fantastic. The chicken was moist, the egg was perfectly boiled with a nice soft runny centre, and the croffle was crunchy and flavourful. I would absolutely order this item again. Although I felt the food here was definitely worth it, I would question returning unless I was certain it would be a quiet time for them as it seems the staff might have too much on their plates to keep up with demand. No part of my dining experience had gone as requested initially, and there were errors with my friends requests as well. The staff are very friendly, but unfortunately, the frequent errors and mistakes impacted our experience heavily. Of note, there was no change to our bill or any offer to make up for the numerous mistakes that were made, which was disappointing to all of us.
