Contrary to the one star post below, this deli is pretty darn good although I have not purchased anything from the frozen food section. Their deli meats and sausages in the front counter display cases are very good and they allow you to try samples of the various types of offerings before you purchase. They produce a number of Scandinavian type meats products that you really cannot get anywhere else like mediste polse and rolle polse og liverpostej. The liver pate is not bad but could use an improvement with a little addition of anchovies. With the recent closure of other shops that sell Scandinavian deli type goods, this deli has been valiantly trying to bring in the things that people are requesting. They are getting better each year and hopefully we will get them bringing in all of the things we want so we don't have to go to other stores for liquorice!! Keep up the great work read more

I bought some cabbage rolls from the freezer section of this deli last week. While I have had some bad cabbage rolls in my life, these have got to be the worst. First, there was basically no sauce on them. I had to rummage around the fridge to find something to warm them up in and found some chicken stock, which at least stopped them from drying out but was not the most flavourful. It got worse though. The package was clearly labelled "pork". We cut into them to find rice. Nothing but rice. Over cooked, unseasoned rice. At first we thought that maybe they were mislabeled and that they were meant to be vegetarian, but then I spotted a minuscule piece of brown and realized it was the pork. I forked through that whole roll and found two more pieces. Apparently that's what $3.50 buys you at Hansel Deli: 3 pin sized piece of pork in a sea of bland, mushy rice, all wrapped in some dry cabbage. Please heed my advice and save your money! No sauce, no flavour, no pork = no repeat customer! read more

I've been going to this Deli for many years. Long before the new owners took over a few years ago. They have certainly kept up the quality, but also expanded to bring in more new products, not to mention cleaning up the inside. They also have an excellent stock of European groceries and Danish specialty items. The husband and wife team are friendly and helpful as well. Still great kielbasa. read more

This deli/ smokehouse has been totally revamped. Love the smell as soon as you walk in the door. It's under new management and all I can say is wow! Too many yummy specializes to mention in this post. Please come in and see all the new offerings. I guarantee you won't be disappointed! read more

From the outside and the inside the place doesn't look like much but they have by far the best homemade sausage I have ever had.

When you walk into the store you kind of second guess the place. You wonder whether they are still even in business. All I have to say though is WORLDS BEST SAUSAGE period. I cannot say enough about it. I brought it home and put it in the fridge. Every time I opened the fridge all I could smell was this heavenly sausage. My mouth watered. Can't even explain it. Then I cooked it up and OMG. The only thing that made me sad was the fact that the fridge didn't have that aroma any more. Should make that a room freshener. Lol read more

I recently purchased sausage, and pepperoni, plus a few other things, from Hansel Deli. The new owners are doing a great job and the place looks great! I'm so glad they are doing such a remarkable service in our local community. The products they make are better than the original owners, toward the end of their ownership. A couple of notes for the new owners. The man seems disgruntled. He threw the products on the counter like he was mad and was not cheerful or friendly at all. He did not smile or thank me for my purchase. He needs to learn some social skills and appreciation for his customers. Don't take your frustrations out on your clients. The woman is fairly friendly, but this particular time she did not even acknowledge me. I understand that we all have difficult days...but we are your bread and butter, so to speak. Also, she was making a deli tray, rolling each piece of cold cuts by hand and was not using gloves. That's a no-no in my books. Please take this as constructive criticism and keep making the best sausage in the World! as it says on the building! read more

Kathy's Cloverdale Sausage at Hansel Deli 5804 - 176th St is OPEN. Not sure why it has been reported as closed. I just called them at (604) 576-6131 and it's business as usual. I LOVE their homemade home-smoked kolbassa. If you are ever in the area stop in and try some. They usually have the pork kolbassa but only have the turkey kolbassa sporadically. BOTh are DELICIOUS. And they DO NOT add nitrates! They have other products as well- go check them out! read more

I left Edmonton in the late 80's - have lived in the Yukon and the lower mainland since----live now in Agassiz and have made a point of coming here to buy the sausage several times a year since we moved to the lower mainland. It is unsurpassed by any other sausage I have tried and I 've tried all kinds since we left Alberta. Being Ukrainian --sausage is a large part of our diet ! Good kolbassa - both regular and turkey kolbassa. They make it right there - how many places does this happen. If you are out clover dale way then stop in. Find a spot to buy some lovely cheese and fresh baguette, grab a bottle of wine and enjoy a great day under a tree, looking at the ocean. read more
