Great, high-quality food and friendly service! I always leave happy and very full. I only wish they had a second location closer to me.

I understand that this is a new location for this business, so I can't compare to the previous version, but I have to say I am impressed by the varied menu, friendly service, and bright, open space. Half of the business and the restaurant and the other half is a small grocery store. Sandwiches come in two sizes, and I found the smaller size to be more than enough, filled with warm pastrami. I ordered a small size of chicken noodle soup and added a matzah ball, which was firm and dense. The soup had a nice piece of chicken in it and was warm and comforting. My sandwich was served with a sour pickle on the side. It's a bit pricey but such is life when it comes to eating kosher. read more

I used to frequent the old location for the awesome chopped liver and smoked meat sandwich, and thought that they closed until a friend invited me to the new location. I was looking forward to another filling sandwich and fresh fries. When I asked for my sandwich, it took 5 staff, in an empty restaurant, to decide that this is no longer possible, I asked for a regular chopped liver sandwich and fries. The fries were completely undercooked, and had to be sent back, evidently the oil was not hot enough. When I got the sandwich, I was taken by complete surprise and shock and the miniscule and meager portion, between two tiny pieces of rye. My friend's Pastrami sandwich, was equally small and "thin". The fries returned, same order, reheated and still undercooked. Evidently the persons in the kitchen should not be there, and as far as I am concerned there is no more value at this business, I was still hungry when I left, and very embarrassed by what I got, after boasting to my friend about the old place. I'm hooked on Omnitsky's! I typed "kosher" into DoorDash and this was one of the top responses. And now I know why. It's DELICIOUS! Every time. I die the sandwiches are so tasty and juicy and well-proportioned. I'm slowly working my way through sampling the menu but right now my favourites are the Clubhouse sandwich or Chicken Schnitzel sandwich. For the fries- to each their own but honestly these might be my favourite French fries in Vancouver. Not too thin. They cook them well, good balance of crunchy and salty. By way of introduction, I'm a native Montrealer and I'm Jewish, and I grew up on east coast delis. This is the food I'm most used to, most familiar with, most knowledgeable about. My closest friend's father was the manager of Schwartz's deli on the Main in Montreal (iconic smoked meat), so we were there ALL the time. I am by no means a "foodie", and I'm pretty unfamiliar with many different cuisines and gourmet fare, but I KNOW my Hebrew deli foods like the back of my hand. Living in Seattle and now Vancouver for the past 25+ years, there's been a real void in these cities when it comes to legit Jewish delis. I've had to go back to the east coast whenever I need my fix. But I heard a lot about Omnitsky's the past two years, and a friend had some of their specialty gluten-free matzah at her Passover seder I was invited to (and it was surprisingly the best matzah ever!), that I decided to visit this tiny deli the other day. I was hoping to get some of this specialty matzah but I hoped there'd be other deli items to bring home. I was feeling nostalgic. I was taken aback how small this place was, and how small their selection of foods were. Half the store is devoted to seating in their dine-in restaurant section, and the front of the store is devoted to foodstuffs for sale. They had some packaged Israeli foods (cookies, Manischewitz mixes, candies, crackers, etc.) and a few boxes of matzah (but not the specific matzah I was looking for), and they had kosher meats and dairy products in separate refrigerated and freezer cases, along with a deli meat section in the rear. The prices for everything were way, way higher than any I've seen elsewhere in Vancouver and definitely way higher than those in Montreal. Of course, for specialty foods, one would expect this, and if one were an observant Jew keeping strict kosher, of course this would be accepted without question, as the foods are totally kosher here and to many orthodox folks, this is of utmost importance. It is not really important to me, however. I get many of these same Manischewitz and Osem products for a fraction of the cost at the Joti's No Frill store on Broadway. Here they also had some bakery items (like rugelach an kichlach -sorry for the transliterate spelling issues!), but not a lot, and still pricey. I didn't eat at the restaurant so I can't speak to the foods served there. Their menu looks great, though, with lots of traditional offerings. Again, the prices are high, though, but I see they have daily specials that are half-priced. I am posting photos of their menu so you can see the offerings and prices. One reason I am giving this place four stars is because the two guys who helped me were super SUPER nice, and they went out of their way for me. When I asked the young guy at the cash about the gluten-free matzah I wanted, he said he'd go to the back to check on it. When he returned, a friendly man was with him (I think he was the manager), who explained that Yahuda matzah was sold out, he wasn't sure when it would be back in stock (it was a specialty item for Passover), but he offered to take my contact info and call me if it returns. I thought that was really nice of them! So... if you are orthodox and need to keep kosher, or if you have a hankering for traditional Jewish deli fare and money isn't so much of an object for you, or if you want to get some event catered with deli platters, this is a great place to go! read more

Better for take out than eating in. The atmosphere was a bit dark and dingy on the cloudy day we went. The service was adequate. The soup was not hot and needed seasoning. The rye bread wasn't soft and fresh. The sandwich fillings were tasty . This place is quite expensive for what you get. read more

Delicious food and I was able to find parking! Got a roast beef sandwich and potato salad. If I didn't have to fly home the next day I would have gotten food to go. Really a nice place with great service and quality food. I need to apologize for being another dumb American, though. I asked for cheese on the sandwich and the young waiter had to correct me. "This is a kosher deli, we don't serve cheese." My Jewish pet sitter laughed when I arrived home to the USA. "Did you ask for a glass of milk, too?" I hope the tip I left made up for it. I highly recommend this deli. Parking can be a bit tough but there are a couple of spots in the back and some street parking in residential areas. read more

Saw a food reviewer indulging in one of their pastrami sandwiches and it looked worth a try. Ordered using Skip The Dishes, which caused the meal to be way overpriced just off the almost $5 dollar delivery fee but I really wanted to try it out. Ordered the hot pastrami with hot mustard and a side of coleslaw. I got the $18 dollar pastrami because I like a thicker sandwich with plenty of meat. Sandwich arrives and the bread is much smaller than I anticipated. It was like finger food bread with a decent serving of meat packed in the middle. Accompanying it was the smallest side pickle I've ever seen. It was the size of my pinky finger (no exaggeration). But the portion that really got me was the coleslaw. It came in what can only be described as a dipping sauce cup. Three scoops with a fork and it was gone. The meal with delivery, plus tip was about $31 dollars. As far as the taste of the food, everything was delicious but I can't justify the price for the portions. read more

I used to go to this deli when it was with the previous owner for the pastrami sandwich on rye. I did that very thing today. Sandwich tasted just fine, but wow, it is like they put it through the shrinking machine at the Willy Wonka factory. $17 for a sandwich that left me needing to buy something else afterwards for lunch. I got one for my wife (small human with a similar appetite). She looked at it ask asked if I had got her a half sandwich. Yes, they had the "supersize the meat" option which I didn't do, but didn't think I would need to as with the old owners, that supersized sandwich was way too much. I ate at this restaurant when it was Kaplans for over 20 years. Towards the end, Kaplans quality went down. Now that the place is Omnitsky Kosher, its worth going to again. I had a delicious flavorful matza ball soup and a corned beef sandwich with a crispy pickle. The food is great, and the owner and his staff are terrific too. Very friendly and willing to indulge customers like me in special orders, like half a corned beef and half a chopped liver sandwich. Demographics in Vancouver are changing. Millennials don't want corned beef and pastrami. They don't know what they're missing, but I'm glad that Omnitsky has a niche that it serves - kosher diners. Hopefully that will help it buck dining trends and stay around for a long time. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but you get high quality food, and one has to expect kosher to cost a bit more. read more

* Oy veys meer! * Four elderly Jewish ladies are sitting around the table in Vancouver's only Kosher deli. The 1st one sighs, "Oy..." The 2nd one agrees, sighs, and says, "Oy vey!" The 3rd one nods, sighs even louder, and says, "Oy veys meer!" The 4th one says, "Enough vit dis talking about our kids, let's eat." OK, so that didn't happen. Of course it didn't. Vancouver doesn't really have a classic Jewish immigrant type of spot for Kosher deli. And yes, I say that even after eating here. When Omnitsky opened up a deli in this location I was pretty excited to try it out - with the hope for some real Jewish deli. Entering instead of finding a grumpy guy behind the counter speaking with a heavy eastern European accent, or a disinterested waitress with a heavy Bronx or Lower East Side accent, there were a bunch of high school age looking kids like you'd expect at a suburban fast food outlet with strong Canadian accents. Ah, but the menu had some promising things on it. I ordered the smoked meat sandwich combo ($17.95 with fries and a drink included). When the kid behind the counter asked me if I wanted lettuce, tomato, and mayo on it I cringed, but simply said, "No thank you - just mustard." The food arrived, and it was disappointing. The meat was lukewarm as if they tried to heat it up, but didn't finish the job. It was also really dry. I've always been a fan of thicker hand-sliced smoked meat - but that is a personal preference - this was not that. The bread also didn't have the typical rye crust you'd expect at a deli. Ok. Haven't been here for years. My daughter was starving so decided to try this place again. She noticed an intriguing pic of a sandwich... Extremely disappointed. Again. Last time the same thing - exorbitantly high prices for teeny tiny sandwiches - 15.00 for Reg 20.00 for the "epwich" which boasts 8 ounces of meat... Gristly pile of minced corned beef on rye. I have been a semi regular at this location (Kaplan's) for over 20 years. I have always enjoyed noshing there until today. Greeting Rude indifferent greeting from the bearded guy behind the counter. Service Non existent. I sat there while 3 "regulars"were served ahead of me. When my server finally arrived she was devoid of any personality or customer service. The meal After waiting another 15 minutes my meal arrived... Tasteless cup of potato salad, coke in a can (no ice or glass as I had requested), chopped liver and fried onions that tasted like it looked...awful. Walked in to a friendly face which we presumed was the owner he could tell we were new and needed some guidance on picking a delicious hangover meal. (My hubby and I were at a wedding last night, I needed two things in my life meat and bread). I settled on a smoked meat sandwich which was stacked a good 2.5 inches thick, it was warm and comforting. I normally opt for spicy items their selection of mustards had me leaning in my usual way but I stuck to my guns and let the awesome deli guy concoct perfection. My hubby went with the pastrami and of course when your married and your the wife what's yours is mine and what's mine is mine. It's was doctored up with spicy mustard the pastrami was sliced thinly and stacked thick served along side a juicy pickle and crispy fries. Washed down with a tasty Dr. Browns cream soda Great energy and a fun crowd to sit amongst. Adding this to our list of secret stops for a great meal. $12 for a sandwich, but it's a fair price once you get it infront if you and take your first ginormous bite! The meat, well-cured, well-flavoured. We got the regular rye bread, fresh and soft. We both got the hot mustard and it is hot baby! Loved it! Coleslaw is a sweet slaw but with a little salt and pepper it was fantastic. We will definitely be back when we're in the area. read more

I was shocked at the prices. I ordered a small corned beef on rye and a large corned beef on rye, cost was $16 plus $20, so just over $37 including tax. I thought, well, it has to be pretty deluxe food for that price, but the corned beef was actually chewy and the pickle was about the diameter of a pencil. I don't know the economics of this sort of business, but I can't imagine the owner is maximizing revenue with prices like this. I know I will never return. read more

We came for kosher Montreal style smoked meat. It's far from downtown in a suburb type neighborhood. The people were nice and tried very hard to please but sorry to say it was far from Montreal flavor. Still better than any pastrami. read more

What can I tell you? I ordered a ton of stuff from Omnitsky's for our family seder - 16 people all up at Whistler. Picked it up - it was already in boxes waiting for me and took it to the cabin. Fortunately, we were able to get it all into the generously proportioned bar fridge, and thus resisted the urge to "taste" each time the fridge door was opened (which was quite often). We had matzo balls (perfect size and texture - yummy), chicken liver (even the baby loved it) and gefilte fish (the best we've had). Super haroset too! Then a whole turkey, carved with gravy, and a whole brisket, also carved, with gravy. An argument broke out as to which was better - it ended in a draw. Pesadich stuffing and tsimmus were perfect compliments to the dinner. Followed by chocolate mousse cake - to die for. Then turkey coma ensued. But it was so good, we had the leftovers the next night. As a new transplant from Toronto to Vancouver, I have been missing the great Jewish Delis I grew up with - amazing pastrami's, corned beef etc. I have also visited Montreal many times with visits to Schwartz Deli, Dunns and Ben's. I am fussy! I have visited Omnitskys several times and sadly have been disappointed. Pastrami and corned beef - not great, but the real sacrilege is the bread. I love a great rye with caraway, but theirs is very poor quality. Please fix the bread source and suggestion- visit the many delis in TO and Montreal. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
